1Plant microremains provide direct evidence for the functions of stone knives from the Lajia site, northwestern China显示文摘A large number of stone knives have been recovered from Neolithic archaeological sites in East Asia.However, direct evidence regarding the functions of the stone knives has been scarce, and hence, their functions have remained controversial. In this study, we recovered and analysed ancient starch grains and phytoliths from residues adhering to stone knives excavated from the Lajia site, Qinghai Province, northwest China, thus providing direct evidence for the functions of the knives. Our analyses were based on the following:(1) an assemblage of 278identifiable starch grains, representing grains from the stems of foxtail millet(Setaria italica) and broomcorn millet(Panicum miliaceum)(65.1 % of the total) and the stems of Hordeum and Triticum species(3.6 % of the total), and(2) an assemblage of 361 identifiable phytoliths,the majority of which were from the stems and leaves of plants such as Panicoideae and related taxa(96 % of the total). Our study demonstrates that one of the functions of the stone knives was the harvesting crops. 6DeceFL:a principled fully decentralized federated learning framework显示文摘Traditional machine learning relies on a centralized data pipeline for model training in various applications;however,data are inherently fragmented.Such a decentralized nature of databases presents the serious challenge for collaboration:sending all decentralized datasets to a central server raises serious privacy concerns.Although there has been a joint effort in tackling such a critical issue by proposing privacy-preserving machine learning frameworks,such as federated learning,most state-of-the-art frameworks are built still in a centralized way,in which a central client is needed for collecting and distributing model information(instead of data itself)from every other client,leading to high communication burden and high vulnerability when there exists a failure at or an attack on the central client.Here we propose a principled decentralized federated learning algorithm(DeceFL),which does not require a central client and relies only on local information transmission between clients and their neighbors,representing a fully decentralized learning framework.It has been further proven that every client reaches the global minimum with zero performance gap and achieves the same convergence rate O(1=T)(where T is the number of iterations in gradient descent)as centralized federated learning when the loss function is smooth and strongly convex.Finally,the proposed algorithm has been applied to a number of applications to illustrate its effectiveness for both convex and nonconvex loss functions,time-invariant and time-varying topologies,as well as IID and Non-IID of datasets,demonstrating its applicability to a wide range of real-world medical and industrial applications.Ye Yuan Jun Liu Dou Jin Zuogong Yue Tao Yang Ruijuan Chen Maolin Wang Chuan Sun Lei Xu Feng Hua Yuqi Guo Xiuchuan Tang Xin He Xinlei Yi Dong Li Guanghui Wen Wenwu Yu Hai-Tao Zhang Tianyou Chai Shaochun Sui Han Ding 2023National Science Open2023,2,1:1

8Component and simulation of the 4,000-year-old noodles excavated from the archaeological site of Lajia in Qinghai,China显示文摘Noodles are a global food,but the periods when and places where they were made and originated,as well as their ingredients and the cooking methods used to manufacture them,have remained contentious.In the 2005 edition of the journal Nature,we wrote a summary of the millet noodle specimens found in the Late Neolithic Qijia cultural stratum of the Lajia archaeological site in Qinghai Province,China.However,how the ancient people made millet noodles remains controversial.This paper provides a systematic analysis of the remains of noodles found withinan earthenware bowl at the Lajia ‘‘noodle house'' in terms of their plant composition including phytoliths,starch and biomarkers.It provides evidence of how people used millet4,000 years ago and,most specifically,of the principal methods used for producing millet-based noodles.Further,we show how we used traditional hele tools to make hele millet noodles,with especial reference to the gelatinized hydrogel-forming method,to simulate morphology consistent with the composition and form of the unearthed millet noodles.The results of this study provide new evidence and new insights into the cultural characteristics of the prehistoric human diet.Houyuan L Yumei Li Jianping Zhang Xiaoyan Yang Maolin Ye Quan Li Can Wang Naiqin Wu 2014Chinese Science Bulletin2014,59,35:1
9A sequential continuous flow synthesis and purification process of calcium dibutyryladenosine cyclophosphate显示文摘Calcium dibutyryladenosine cyclophosphate is a widely used cardiovascular drug.The traditional batch synthesis process suffers from long reaction times,tedious operations,and unstable yields.Herein,a sequential continuous flow synthesis combined with a multistage in-line purification process of calcium dibutyryladenosine cyclophosphate was developed.The acylation reaction was completed in a continuous coil reactor at 160℃ in 20 min.And the high toxic solvent pyridine was replaced by acetonitrile.Furthermore,the multistage in-line purification process was integrated into the homemade 3D circular cyclone-type micromixer chip.Combining with the membrane phase separators,the residence time of the purification step was 30 s.The isolated yield of this sequential continuous process was 92%with 99%purity.Liming Cao Maolin Sun Chaoming Liang Lei Yang Yueyue Ma Ruihua Cheng Yanxiong Ke Wei Yu Jinxing Ye 2024Chinese Chemical Letters2024,35,2:0

11Mesopause temperatures and relative densities at midlatitudes observed by the Mengcheng meteor radar显示文摘The atmospheric temperatures and densities in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere(MLT)region are essential for studying the dynamics and climate of the middle and upper atmosphere.In this study,we present more than 9 years of mesopause temperatures and relative densities estimated by using ambipolar diffusion coefficient measurements observed by the Mengcheng meteor radar(33.4°N,116.5°E).The intercomparison between the meteor radar and Thermosphere Ionosphere Mesosphere Energetics and Dynamics/Sounding of the Atmosphere by Broadband Emission Radiometry(TIMED/SABER)and Earth Observing System(EOS)Aura/Microwave Limb Sounder(MLS)observations indicates that the meteor radar temperatures and densities agree well with the simultaneous satellite measurements.Annual variations dominate the mesopause temperatures,with the maximum during winter and the minimum during summer.The mesopause relative densities also show annual variations,with strong maxima near the spring equinox and weak maxima before the winter solstice,and with a minimum during summer.In addition,the mesopause density exhibits a structure similar to that of the zonal wind:as the zonal wind flows eastward(westward),the mesopause density decreases(increases).At the same time,the meridional wind shows a structure similar to that of the mesopause temperature:as the meridional wind shows northward(southward)enhancements,the mesopause temperature increases(decreases).Simultaneous horizontal wind,temperature,and density observations provide multiple mesospheric parameters for investigating mesospheric dynamics and thermodynamic processes and have the potential to improve widely used empirical atmospheric models.Wen Yi XiangHui Xue MaoLin Lu Jie Zeng HaiLun Ye JianFei Wu Chong Wang TingDi Chen 2023Earth and Planetary Physics2023,7,6:0
12Two-step continuous flow process of sodium tanshinone ⅡA sulfonate using a 3D circular cyclone-type microreactor显示文摘A sustainable and practical process is presented for the direct synthesis of sodium tanshinone IIA sulfonate(STS).Our approach was inspired by the well-established and industrially applied batch synthetic route for STS production.We constructed a telescoped two-step continuous flow platform.This involved a continuous tanshinone IIA sulfonation and in-line salt formation.For the setup,we constructed a 3D circular cyclone-type microreactor using femtosecond laser micromachining.Compared to the 68%yield for 2 h in batch,the two-step continuous flow had an STS yield of 90%,achieved for a total residence time of<3.0 min under optimal conditions.The proposed continuous flow method vastly simplified the operation and improved procedural safety,while significantly reducing the required acid content and wastewater production.Maolin Sun Chaoming Liang Liming Cao Yaguo Wang Jiasheng Yang Shiyu Hou Wei Yu Yueyue Ma Ruihua Cheng Jinxing Ye 2024Chinese Chemical Letters2024,35,1:0
13Development and Validation of a Prognostic Risk Score System for COVID-19 Inpatients:A Multi-Center Retrospective Study in China显示文摘Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has become a worldwide pandemic.Hospitalized patients of COVID-19 suffer from a high mortality rate,motivating the development of convenient and practical methods that allow clinicians to promptly identify high-risk patients.Here,we have developed a risk score using clinical data from 1479 inpatients admitted to Tongji Hospital,Wuhan,China(development cohort)and externally validated with data from two other centers:141 inpatients from Jinyintan Hospital,Wuhan,China(validation cohort 1)and 432 inpatients from The Third People’s Hospital of Shenzhen,Shenzhen,China(validation cohort 2).The risk score is based on three biomarkers that are readily available in routine blood samples and can easily be translated into a probability of death.The risk score can predict the mortality of individual patients more than 12 d in advance with more than 90%accuracy across all cohorts.Moreover,the Kaplan-Meier score shows that patients can be clearly differentiated upon admission as low,intermediate,or high risk,with an area under the curve(AUC)score of 0.9551.In summary,a simple risk score has been validated to predict death in patients infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2);it has also been validated in independent cohorts.Ye Yuan Chuan Sun Xiuchuan Tang Cheng Cheng Laurent Mombaerts Maolin Wang Tao Hu Chenyu Sun Yuqi Guo Xiuting Li Hui Xu Tongxin Ren Yang Xiao Yaru Xiao Hongling Zhu Honghan Wu Kezhi Li Chuming Chen Yingxia Liu Zhichao Liang Zhiguo Cao Hai-Tao Zhang Ioannis Ch.Paschaldis Quanying Liu Jorge Goncalves Qiang Zhong Li Yan 2022Engineering2022,8,1:0
