Agricultural development and human diets in Gouwan site,Xichuan,Henan显示文摘This paper undertook the C and N stable isotopic analysis of human bones unearthed at the Gouwan site in Xichuan,Henan,to reveal the human diets and to explore the lifestyle of humans and the development of rice and millet agriculture. The contribution of rice to human diets was almost equal to that of millet in this site though millet agriculture is the traditional economic model for the middle Yellow River Valley. On the other hand, the comparison of C and N stable isotopes in different cultural periods clearly indicates changes in millet and rice agriculture.Humans mainly depended on agriculture and gathering in the Yangshao Culture I. Millet agriculture, livestock rearing, and fishing were enhanced in the Yangshao Culture II.Millet agriculture and animal husbandry developed steadily in the Yangshao Culture III.After that the mixed rice and millet agriculture developed further. In addition, rice agriculture spread to the north in the climate suitable for cultural exchanges between north and south in the Yangshao Culture phases. In the Qujialing Culture period, under a colder climate, the rice farming was not dominant, though the Qujialing Culture played a key role in the site.FU QiaoMei JIN SongAn HU YaoWu MA Zhao PAN JianCai WANG ChangSui 2010Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,7:13
New progress in understanding the origins of modern humans in China显示文摘Hypotheses concerning the origins of modern humans have been intensively debated, and two competing models, the recent 'Out-of-Africa' and 'Multiregional Evolution' paradigms, have dominated research and discussions for decades. Evidence from China has played a fundamental role in this debate: regional continuity and replacement by populations in-migrated from Africa have both been suggested and supported mainly by paleoanthropologists and geneticists, respectively. As more evidence has accumulated, new results obtained, and more scholars from various disciplines become involved, supporters of the recent 'Out-of-Africa' model agree more or less with the 'Multiregional Evolution' model regarding the complex history of modern humans and their interbreeding with other archaic populations(e.g., Neandertals). Recent discoveries of new human fossils, Paleolithic archaeological materials, and ancient DNA evidence in China have yielded a large body of information regarding the formation and development of modern humans in this region. However, controversies continue, including that most molecular biologists insist on the replacement of archaic populations by modern humans dispersed from Africa, while most paleoanthropologists and archaeologists propose an enhanced 'Continuity with Hybridization' model. In this paper, we compile new results and progress in China and present the current debates and issues on the origins of modern humans. Finally, we offer several suggestions for future studies.GAO Xing PENG Fei FU QiaoMei LI Feng 2017Science China Earth Sciences2017,60,12:2
Maternal genetic history of ancient Tibetans over the past 4000 years显示文摘The settlement of the Tibetan Plateau epitomizes human adaptation to a high-altitude environment that poses great challenges to human activity. Here,we reconstruct a 4000-year maternal genetic history of Tibetans using 128 ancient mitochondrial genome data from 37 sites in Tibet. The phylogeny of haplotypes M9a1a,M9a1b,D4g2,G2a’c,and D4i show that ancient Tibetans share the most recent common ancestor with ancient Middle and Upper Yellow River populations around the Early and Middle Holocene. In addition, the connections between Tibetans and Northeastern Asians vary over the past 4000 years, with a stronger matrilineal connection between the two during 4000 BPe3000 BP,and a weakened connection after 3000 BP,that are coincident with climate change, followed by a reinforced connection after the Tubo period(1400 BPe1100 BP).Besides,an over 4000-year matrilineal continuity is observed in some of the maternal lineages. We also find the maternal genetic structure of ancient Tibetans is correlated to the geography and interactions between ancient Tibetans and ancient Nepal and Pakistan populations.Overall, the maternal genetic history of Tibetans can be characterized as a long-term matrilineal continuity with frequent internal and external population interactions that are dynamically shaped by geography, climate changes,as well as historical events.Ganyu Zhang Can Cui Shargan Wangdue Hongliang Lu Honghai Chen Lin Xi Wei He Haibing Yuan Tinley Tsring Zujun Chen Feng Yang Tashi Tsering Shuai Li Norbu Tashi Tsho Yang Yan Tong Xiaohong Wu Linhui Li Yuanhong He Peng Cao Qingyan Dai Feng Liu Xiaotian Feng Tianyi Wang Ruowei Yang Wanjing Ping Ming Zhang Xing Gao Yichen Liu Wenjun Wang Qiaomei Fu 2023Journal of Genetics and Genomics2023,50,10:1
Ancient DNA traces a Chinese 5400-year-old cat specimen as leopard cat(Prionailurus bengalensis)显示文摘Now,widely distributed modern cats are the descendant of wildcat(Felis silvestris lybica),which are assumed to have originally taken advantage of resources in human settlements, before being tamed in the Near East via a commensal pathway(Driscoll et al.,2007;Larson and Fuller,2014).Shilun Zhu Zehui Chen Songmei Hu Weilin Wang Peng Cao Feng Liu Qingyan Dai Xiaotian Feng Ruowei Yang Wanjing Ping Qiaomei Fu 2022Journal of Genetics and Genomics2022,49,11:1
Maternal genetic history of southern East Asians over the past 12,000 years显示文摘Southern East Asia, including Guangxi and Fujian provinces in China,is home to diverse ethnic groups, languages, and cultures.Previous studies suggest a high complexity regarding population dynamics and the history of southern East Asians.However,large-scale genetic studies on ancient populations in this region are hindered by limited sample preservation. Here, using highly efficient DNA capture techniques,we obtain 48 complete mitochondrial genomes of individuals from Guangxi and Fujian in China and reconstruct their maternal genetic history over the past 12,000 years. We find a strong connection between southern East Asians dating to~12,000-6000 years ago and present-day Southeast Asians. In addition, stronger genetic affinities to northern East Asians are observed in historical southern East Asians than Neolithic southern East Asians, suggesting increased interactions between northern and southern East Asians over time.Overall,we reveal dynamic connections between ancient southern East Asians and populations located in surrounding regions,as well as a shift in maternal genetic structure within the populations over time.Yalin Liu Tianyi Wang Xichao Wu Xuechun Fan Wei Wang Guangmao Xie Zhen Li Qingping Yang Peng Cao Ruowei Yang Feng Liu Qingyan Dai Xiaotian Feng Wanjing Ping Bo Miao Yun Wu Yichen Liu Qiaomei Fu 2021Journal of Genetics and Genomics2021,48,10:1
Maternal genetic structure of a neolithic population of the Yangshao culture显示文摘The Yangshao culture is one of the most influential Neolithic cultures in East Asia. The populations associated with the Yangshao culture were widely distributed along the Yellow River basin and were suggested to play a profound role in the present-day East Asians. To date, the population of the Yangshao culture is largely investigated through archaeological studies.Bo Miao Yichen Liu Wanfa Gu Qingli Wei Qian Wu Wenjun Wang Ming Zhang Manyu Ding Tianyi Wang Juncen Liu Feng Liu Peng Cao Qingyan Dai Ruowei Yang Xiaotian Feng Wanjing Ping Weihong Hou Haibing Yuan Qiaomei Fu 2021Journal of Genetics and Genomics2021,48,8:0
Genome-wide Data from a 40,000-year-old Man in China Reveals Complicated Genetic History of Asia显示文摘The biological makeup of humans in East Asia is shaping up to be a very complex story, with greater diversity and more distant contacts than previously known, according to a new study[1]in Current Biology analyzing the genome of a man that died in the Tianyuan Cave near Beijing,China 40,000 years ago.His bones had enough DNA molecules left, making it possible for a team led by Professor FUfu qiaomei 2017Bulletin of the Chinese Academy of Sciences2017,31,3:0
In-situ imaging of strain-induced enhancement of hydrogen evolution activity on the extruded MoO_(2)sheets显示文摘Strain engineering is a useful strategy for modifying the catalytic activity of electrocatalysts.However,in-situ visual characterization of the strain effect on the catalytic activity at nanoscale remains a huge challenge.Herein,we performed in-situ electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy(EC-STM)imaging measurements at the local strained regions of extruded singlecrystal molybdenum dioxide(MoO_(2))sheets with combination of current noise analysis(n-EC-STM).The intensity-enhanced noise was observed at the local strained region compared to the unstrained regions in the same frame, which reveals the positive effect of compressive strain on the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)activity of MoO_(2)provided that the intensity of noise is positively correlated with catalytic HER Faradic current. Therefore,we clearly“see”the strain-induced enhancement of HER activity of MoO_(2)at nanoscale by means of noise visualization. This work extends the visual characterization of strain engineering in electrocatalysis and related fields.Mansheng Liao Qiaomei Zhu Shuhua Li Qiongqiong Li Ziting Tao Yongchun Fu 2023Nano Research2023,16,4:0
Ancient DNA reveals the maternal genetic history of East Asian domestic pigs显示文摘Zoo-archaeological and genetic evidence suggest that pigs were domesticated independently in Central China and Eastern Anatolia along with the development of agricultural communities and civilizations. However, the genetic history of domestic pigs, especially in China, has not been fully explored. In this study,we generate 42 complete mitochondrial DNA sequences from~7500-to 2750-year-old individuals from the Yellow River basin. Our results show that the maternal genetic continuity of East Asian domestic pigs dates back to at least the Early to Middle Neolithic. In contrast, the Near Eastern ancestry in European domestic pigs saw a near-complete genomic replacement by the European wild boar. The majority of East Asian domestic pigs share close haplotypes, and the most recent common ancestor of most branches dates back to less than 20,000 years before present, inferred using new substitution rates of whole mitogenomes or combined protein-coding regions. Two major population expansion events of East Asian domestic pigs coincided with changes in climate, widespread adoption of introduced crops, and the development of agrarian societies. These findings add to our understanding of the maternal genetic composition and help to complete the picture of domestic pig evolutionary history in East Asia.Ming Zhang Yichen Liu Zhipeng Li Peng Lü Jacob D.Gardner Maolin Ye Jihuai Wang Miaomiao Yang Jing Shao Weilin Wang Qingyan Dai Peng Cao Ruowei Yang Feng Liu Xiaotian Feng Lizhao Zhang Enwei Li Yunzheng Shi Zehui Chen Shilun Zhu Weiwei Zhai Tao Deng Ziyuan Duan E.Andrew Bennett Songmei Hu Qiaomei Fu 2022Journal of Genetics and Genomics2022,49,6:0
Canine transmissible venereal tumor genome reveals ancient introgression from coyotes to pre-contact dogs in North America显示文摘Dear Editor, Canine transmissible venereal tumor (CTVT), the oldest known somatic cell line, is a living fossil of the original founder, transmitted from host’s cancer cells to other canids during the mating process.1 Since it was shown ten years ago that living cells from an ancient host could be transmitted among canids, the origin of CTVT has been studied continuously.2 Recent comparison of the CTVT genetic data with a more comprehensive canine reference panel including pre-contact dogs (PCDs) from North America argued that the CTVT founder (the original canid infected with CTVT) is the closest detectable lineage to PCDs, and that this clade underwent introgression from wild canids in North America.Xuan Wang Bo-Wen Zhou Melinda A.
