4The Ghd7 transcription factor represses ARE1 expression to enhance nitrogen utilization and grain yield in rice显示文摘The genetic improvement of nitrogen use efficiency(NUE)of crops is vital for grain productivity and sustainable agriculture.However,the regulatory mechanism of NUE remains largely elusive.Here,we report that the rice Grain number,plant height,and heading date7(Ghd7)gene genetically acts upstream of ABC1 REPRESSOR1(ARE1),a negative regulator of NUE,to positively regulate nitrogen utilization.As a transcriptional repressor,Ghd7 directly binds to two Evening Element-like motifs in the promoter and intron 1 of ARE1,likely in a cooperative manner,to repress its expression.Ghd7 and ARE1 display diurnal expression patterns in an inverse oscillation manner,mirroring a regulatory scheme based on these two loci.Analysis of a panel of 2656 rice varieties suggests that the elite alleles of Ghd7 and ARE1 have undergone diversifying selection during breeding.Moreover,the allelic distribution of Ghd7 and ARE1 is associated with the soil nitrogen deposition rate in East Asia and South Asia.Remarkably,the combination of the Ghd7 and ARE1 elite alleles substantially improves NUE and yield performance under nitrogen-limiting conditions.Collectively,these results define a Ghd7–ARE1-based regulatory mechanism of nitrogen utilization,providing useful targets for genetic improvement of rice NUE.Qing Wang Qingmei Su Jinqiang Nian Jian Zhang Meng Guo Guojun Dong Jiang Hu Rongsheng Wang Changshuo Wei Guanwen Li Wan Wang Hui-Shan Guo Shaoyang Lin Wenfeng Qian XianzhiXie Qian Qian Fan Chen Jianru Zuo 2021Molecular Plant2021,14,6:10

8Low serum albumin levels predict poor outcome in patients with acute ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack显示文摘Background To examine the relationship of serum albumin with poor functional outcome and mortality in patients with acute ischaemic stroke(AIS)or transient ischaemic attack(TIA),and perform a meta-analysis to summarise the association.Methods We analysed data from the Third China National Stroke Registry(CNSR-Ⅲ).Patients were divided into four groups based on serum albumin levels at admission.The outcomes included poor functional outcome(modified Rankin Scale(mRS)score of 3 to 6)and mortality at 3 months and 1 year.Multiple logistic regression models and Cox regression models were used to evaluate the association,respectively.We used a fixed-effect model to calculate the risk ratio for poor functional outcome and a random-effect model for mortality in the meta-analysis.Results A total of 13618 patients were enrolled.During the 3-month follow-up period,compared with 40 to 44.9 g/L group,patients in<35 g/L group had an increased risk of poor functional outcome and mortality(adjusted OR 1.37(95%CI 1.12 to 1.67);adjusted HR 2.13(95%CI 1.41 to 3.23)).The relationship in per 10 g/L decreased serum albumin with prognosis was consistently inversed(adjusted OR 1.17(95%CI 1.01 to 1.35);adjusted HR 1.86(95%CI 1.30 to 2.64)).Also,low serum albumin levels were independently correlated with clinical outcomes at 1 year.In the meta-analysis,the OR for poor functional outcome pooled 3 studies per 1 g/L decrease was 1.03(95%CI 1.02 to 1.05),and the HR for mortality pooled 5 studies was 1.07(95%CI 1.03 to 1.11).Conclusions Low serum albumin levels predict poor functional outcome and mortality in patients with AIS or TIA.Hongyu Zhou Anxin Wang Xia Meng Jinxi Lin Yong Jiang Jing Jing Yingting Zuo Yilong Wang Xingquan Zhao Hao Li Yongjun Wang 2021Stroke & Vascular Neurology2021,6,3:7
9Dynamic correlation of diffusion tensor imaging and neurological function scores in beagles with spinal cord injury显示文摘Exploring the relationship between different structure of the spinal cord and functional assessment after spinal cord injury is important. Quantitative diffusion tensor imaging can provide information about the microstructure of nerve tissue and can quantify the pathological damage of spinal cord white matter and gray matter. In this study, a custom-designed spinal cord contusion-impactor was used to damage the T_(10) spinal cord of beagles. Diffusion tensor imaging was used to observe changes in the whole spinal cord, white matter, and gray matter, and the Texas Spinal Cord Injury Score was used to assess changes in neurological function at 3 hours, 24 hours, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks after injury. With time, fractional anisotropy values after spinal cord injury showed a downward trend, and the apparent diffusion coefficient, mean diffusivity, and radial diffusivity first decreased and then increased. The apparent diffusion-coefficient value was highly associated with the Texas Spinal Cord Injury Score for the whole spinal cord(R = 0.919, P = 0.027), white matter(R = 0.932, P = 0.021), and gray matter(R = 0.882, P = 0.048). Additionally, the other parameters had almost no correlation with the score(P > 0.05). 10Different contribution of SBP and DBP variability to vascular events in patients with stroke显示文摘Background High blood pressure variability(BPV)is a novel risk factor for cardiovascular disease.However,the heterogeneity of systolic blood pressure variability(SBPV)and diastolic blood pressure variability(DBPV)for different vascular events remains unclear.This study aims to investigate whether SBPV or DBPV has different contribution to vascular events in patients with acute ischaemic stroke(IS)or transient ischaemic attack(TIA).Methods Data from the BOSS(blood pressure and clinical outcome in TIA or IS)study were examined for vascular events at 3-month and 1-year follow-up.BPV was defined as the SD and coefficient of variation(CV)of day-to day measurements within 3 months after IS/TIA.Vascular events include cardiovascular events(myocardial infarction,unstable angina,cardiac death and congestive heart failure)and cerebrovascular events(ischaemic or haemorrhagic stroke).Logistic regression model was used to test the associations between BPV and vascular events.results Of 2325 patients with IS or TIA,103(4.43%)experienced a recurrent stroke and 64(2.75%)had cardiovascular events within 3 months.Day-to day SBPV was only associated with stroke recurrence(BPVSD:OR,1.72,95%CI 1.09 to 2.71;BPVCV:1.86,95%CI 1.19 to 2.92),but not cardiovascular events(BPVSD:1.67,95%CI 0.94 to 2.94;BPVCV:1.51,95%CI 0.86 to 2.64).However,DBPV seems to be related to both stroke(BPVSD:1.60,95%CI 1.02 to 2.49;BPVCV:1.53,95%CI 0.99 to 2.37)and cardiovascular events(BPVSD:2.48,95%CI 1.37 to 4.48;BPVCV:1.92,95%CI 1.09 to 3.36).Similar results were found at 1 year.Conclusions For patients with IS/TIA,stroke recurrence was associated with both SBPV and DBPV;however,cardiovascular events seem to be only related to DBPV.Liye Dai Aichun Cheng Xiwa Hao Jie Xu Yingting Zuo Anxin Wang Xia Meng Hao Li Yilong Wang Xingquan Zhao Yongjun Wang 2020Stroke & Vascular Neurology2020,5,2:6
11Bifidobacterium infantis attenuates colitis by regulating T cell subset responses显示文摘AIM:to investigate the effect of Bifidobacterium infantis(B.infantis)on the T cell subsets and in attenuating the severity of experimental colitis in mice.METHODS:Normal BALB/c mice were fed different doses of B.infantis for 3 wk,and T cell subsets and related cytokine profiles in mesenteric lymph nodes(MLNs)were detected by flow cytometry and realtime RT-PCR.Colitis was induced by administration of trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid(TNBS)in mice.Before colitis induction,mice were fed high dose B.infantisfor 3 wk.Cytokine profiles in MLNs and histological changes of colonic tissue were examined 6 d after colitis induction.RESULTS:No significant change in cytokine profiles was observed in normal mice fed low dose B.infantis.However,Th1-related cytokines(IL-2,IFN-γ,IL-12p40),Th17-related transcription factor and cytokines(RORγt,IL-21,IL-23),regulatory T cell(Treg)-related transcription factor and cytokines(Foxp3,IL-10)were increased in normal mice fed high dose B.infantis.Furthermore,flow cytometry assay showed B.infantis increased the numbers of CD4+Foxp3+Tregs and Th17cells in MLNs.Colitis was successfully induced by TNBS in mice,characterized by colonic inflammation and aberrant Th1 and Th17 responses.Feeding high dose B.infantis for 3 wk before colitis induction decreased the inflammatory cell infiltration and goblet cell depletion and restored the intestinal epithelium.In addition,B.infantis feeding reduced Th1-related cytokines(T-bet,IL-2 and IFN-γ)and Th17-related cytokines(IL-12p40,RORγt,IL-17A,IL-21 and IL-23),and increased Tregrelated molecules(Foxp3,IL-10 and TGF-β)in colitis mice.CONCLUSION:B.infantis effectively attenuates TNBSinduced colitis by decreasing Th1 and Th17 responses and increasing Foxp3+Treg response in the colonic mucosa.Li Zuo Kai-Tao Yuan Li Yu Qing-Hong Meng Peter Chee-Keung Chung Ding-Hua Yang 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,48:5
12Bioaccumulation and the expression of hepatic cytochrome P450 genes in marine medaka(Oryzias melastigma)exposed to difenoconazole显示文摘This study was conducted to assess the effects of difenoconazole(DFZ), a triazole fungicide,on the hepatic biotransformation system and its bioaccumulation in marine medaka(Oryzias melastigma). Fish were exposed to DFZ(1, 10, 100, 1000 ng/L) for 180 days. The results showed that:(1) The m RNA levels of hepatic CYP1A1, CYP1 B, CYP1C1, CYP27 B and CYP3A40 were up-regulated, but those of CYP3A38 and CYP27A1 were down-regulated.(2) The activity of ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase(EROD) and the content of reduced glutathione(GSH) in the liver were increased in the DFZ-treated groups, and glutathione S-transferase(GST) activity was increased in the 100 and 1000 ng/L groups.(3) DFZ was accumulated in the muscle and the biological concentration factors in the 10, 100, and1000 ng/L groups were respectively 149, 81 and 25. 14The efficacy and safety of nimodipine in acute ischemic stroke patients with mild cognitive impairment: a double-blind, randomized,placebo-controlled trial显示文摘Nimodipine might be effective in subcortical vascular dementia(VaD). Its benefit in preventing further cognitive decline in patients with acute ischemic stroke(AIS) and vascular mild cognitive impairment(VaMCI) remains to be established. In this multicenter, double-blind trial, we randomly assigned 654 eligible patients to nimodipine 30 mg three times a day or placebo. The primary outcome was any cognitive decline defined by the changes on the Mini-Mental State Examination(DMMSE à3) or vascular AD assessment scale cognitive subscale(DADAS-cog ! 4) at 6 months. Secondary outcomes included any distribution shift of DADAS-cog, DMMSE or cognitive improvement defined by DADAS-cog à2, or DMMSE ! 0. The primary outcome in the nimodipine group and placebo group were similar for DMMSE à3(4.18% and 7.22%, respectively, P = 0.15) and DADAS-cog ! 4(8.36% and 8.93% respectively,P = 0.88). The distribution shift of DADAS-cog and DMMSE differed significantly between the two groups(P = 0.03 and P = 0.05 respectively). Cognitive improvement occurred in 55.4% in the nimodipine group and 43.6% in the placebo group measured by DADAS-cog à2(Odds Ratio, 1.54; 95% confidence interval[CI] 1.10–2.14, P < 0.01) or 84.0% and 74.6% respectively by DMMSE ! 0(Odds Ratio, 1.79; 95% CI 1.18–2.70, P < 0.01). Nimodipine was associated with better cognitive function in the memory domain. The adverse events rate was similar in two groups. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov,NCT01220622. 17Impairment of cognition and sleep after acute ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack in Chinese patients: design, rationale and baseline patient characteristics of a nationwide multicentre prospective registry显示文摘background and aim Cognitive impairment and sleep disorder are both common poststroke conditions and are closely related to the prognosis of patients who had a stroke.The Impairment of CognitiON and Sleep after acute ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack in Chinese patients(ICONS)study is a nationwide multicentre prospective registry to investigate the occurrence and associated factors of cognitive impairment and sleep disorder after acute ischaemic stroke(AIS)or transient ischaemic attack(TIA).Methods Consecutive AIS or TIA in-hospital patients within 7 days after onset were enrolled from 40 participating sites in China.Comprehensive baseline clinical and imaging data were collected prospectively.Blood and urine samples were also collected on admission and follow-up visits.Patients were interviewed face to face for cognition and sleep related outcomes at 2 weeks,3,6 and 12 months after AIS/TIA and followed up for clinical outcomes by telephone annually over 5 years.results Between August 2015 and January 2018,a total of 2625 patients were enrolled.92.65% patients had AIS and 7.35% patients had TIA.Overall,the average age was 61.04 years,and 72.38% patients were male.Median National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score was 3 in AIS patients.Conclusions The ICONS study is a large-scale nationwide prospective registry to investigate occurrence and the longitudinal changes of cognitive impairment and sleep disorder after AIS or TIA.Data from this registry may also provide opportunity to evaluate associated factors of cognitive impairment or sleep disorder after AIS or TIA and their impact on clinical outcome.Yongjun Wang Xiaoling Liao Chunxue Wang Ning Zhang Lijun Zuo Yang Yang Yuesong Pan Xianglong Xiang Jing Jing Xia Meng Xingquan Zhao Yilong Wang Jiong Shi Hao Li 2021Stroke & Vascular Neurology2021,6,1:4
18Optimizing the application of a novel harvest aid to improve the quality of mechanically harvested cotton in the North China Plain显示文摘Defoliation is an indispensable step in cotton production with mechanical harvesting,especially in the North China Plain(NCP)where mechanical harvesting is limited by a large proportion of green leaves and unopened bolls at harvest time due to insufficient thermal resources.It is essential to quantify the optimal use of defoliation products while minimizing yield and quality loss in China.The objective of this study was to test the effect of a new defoliant Xinsaili(XSL,a compound of 10% thidiazuron and 40% ethephon)on the spatial distribution of cotton leaves and bolls,yield and quality in the NCP.There were four treatments:XSL 1800 m L ha^(-1),XSL 2700 m L ha^(-1),XSL splitted into two equal applications(1350 m L ha^(-1) for each),and XSL-free(water)control.Field experiments were conducted in Hebei,China in 2016-2017.All the defoliant treatments did not significantly affect cotton yield and fiber quality compared with the water control.At harvest time,the rate of open bolls under XSL 2700 m L ha^(-1) was 13.5% higher than that under XSL-free control,while the other two treatments showed no significant difference,across the two years.Defoliation percentage of the three XSL treatments showed no difference,but they were on average 42.2% higher than that of XSL-free control.The year-round effect of the defoliant XSL was significant,indicating that climate factors would affect its application.It was concluded that the optimal dose of XSL in the NCP was 2700 m L ha^(-1),and it was unnecessary to split it into two applications.These results would promote cotton mechanical harvesting and reduce the labor cost of cotton production in China.MENG Lu ZHANG Li-zhen QI Hai-kun DU Ming-wei ZUO Yan-li ZHANG Ming-cai TIAN Xiao-li LI Zhao-hu 2021Journal of Integrative Agriculture2021,20,11:4

20Volcanoes and Climate:Sizing up the Impact of the Recent Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai Volcanic Eruption from a Historical Perspective显示文摘An undersea volcano at Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai(HTHH)near the South Pacific island nation of Tonga,erupted violently on 15 January 2022.Potential climate impact of the HTHH volcanic eruption is of great concern to the public;here,we intend to size up the impact of the HTHH eruption from a historical perspective.The influence of historical volcanic eruptions on the global climate are firstly reviewed,which are thought to have contributed to decreased surface temperature,increased stratospheric temperature,suppressed global water cycle,weakened monsoon circulation and El Niño-like sea surface temperature.Our understanding of the impacts of past volcanic eruptions on global-scale climate provides potential implication to evaluate the impact of the HTHH eruption.Based on historical simulations,we estimate that the current HTHH eruption with an intensity of 0.4 Tg SO_(2)injection will decrease the global mean surface temperature by only 0.004℃in the first year after eruption,which is within the amplitude of internal variability at the interannual time scale and thus not strong enough to have significant impacts on the global climate.Meng ZUO Tianjun ZHOU Wenmin MAN Xiaolong CHEN Jian LIU Fei LIU Chaochao GAO 2022Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2022,39,12:4
