1An association between the location of white matter changes and the behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia in Alzheimer's disease patients显示文摘Objective:The frontal lobe may be involved in circuits associated with depression,apathy,aggression,and other psychiatric symptoms.Although white matter changes(WMC)are related to the severity of behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia(BPSD)in patients with Alzheimer’s disease(AD),it is unclear which part of the WMC may play the most important role in BPSD.This study was designed to investigate the relationship between the location of WMC and the severity of BPSD in AD patients.Methods:Among patients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease between 2009 and2014,387 patients were retrospectively reviewed after those with pre‐existing organic brain syndrome,psychiatric diseases,or toxic‐metabolic encephalopathy were excluded.Patients’demographic and laboratory data,WMC measured with brain computed tomography and scored using the age‐related white matter changes(ARWMC)scale,and neuropsychological tests,including the cognitive abilities screening instrument(CASI),the Mini‐Mental State Examination(MMSE),the clinical dementia rating scale with sum‐box(CDR‐SB),and the neuropsychiatric inventory(NPI)were analyzed.Results:There was no significant difference in the NPI between patients with and without a history of stroke,hypertension,and diabetes.No significant difference in the NPI was identified between different sexes or different Apolipoprotein E(APOE)alleles.The NPI score was significantly correlated with the duration of education(r=–0.4515,P=0.0172),CASI(r=–0.2915,P<0.0001),MMSE(r=–0.8476,P<0.0001),and CDR‐SB(r=2.2839,P<0.0001).WMC in the right frontal lobe showed a significant difference in NPI in comparison to those without WMC(P=0.0255).After adjusting for age,duration of education,and CASI,WMC in the right frontal lobe remained significantly associated with the NPI score(β=3.8934,P=0.042).Conclusions:WMC involving the right frontal lobe may play an important role in the BPSD in AD patients during their dementia diagnosis.Further studies are necessary to confirm whether controlling the risk factors of WMC can slow the progression of BPSD.Tzuchou Lin Yihui Lin Linli Kao Yihui Kao Yuanhan Yang Pingsong Chou Mengni Wu 2016Translational Neuroscience and Clinics2016,2,1:3
2Formation of wavy-ring crack in drying droplet of protein solutions显示文摘The formations of desiccation cracks and their patterns in drying droplets of protein solutions are studied experimentally. The solvent evaporation causes the dehydration self-organization phenomenon in colloidal droplets, followed by the formations of desiccation cracks. Two categories of highly ordered crack patterns, which we name 'daisy' and 'wavy-ring', are identified in the drying droplets. We explore the shifting of crack patterns from the 'daisy' to the 'wavy-ring' by varying the concentration of protein droplets. The results show that the concentration correlates with the pattern of deposition film directly, and modulates the periodicity of the crack pattern. We investigate the formations and periodicities of these two kinds of crack patterns, and obtain the scaling law of periodicity of the 'wavy-ring' crack pattern. The relationship between the deposition pattern and the highly ordered crack patterns is also examined. 4Holocene Vegetation and Climate Changes in the Huangqihai Lake Region, Inner Mongolia显示文摘A consensus on Holocene climate variability at the modern northern fringe of the East Asian summer monsoon(EASM) region remains elusive. Here, we present a pollen-based reconstruction of vegetation history and associated climate variations of a sediment core from Huangqihai Lake, central Inner Mongolia. During 10.7 to 8.8 cal kaBP, typical steppe with small patches of forest dominated the lake area, suggesting a moderately wet climate, followed by ameliorating climatic conditions until 8.0 cal kaBP as deduced by the expansion of forest. Typical steppe recovered the lake area between 8.0 and 7.2 cal kaBP, reflecting a deterioration of climatic conditions;in combination with other proxy records in the study region, we noticed that severe aridity was prevailed in the lake area between 8.0 and 7.6 cal kaBP. During 7.2 to 3.2 cal kaBP, abundant tree pollen indicated dominance of forest-steppe around the lake, marking regionally wet conditions. A notable absence of broadleaved trees after 5.2 cal kaBP reveals a slight drying trend, and climate deterioration from 4.5 to 4.1 cal kaBP might be linked to the 4.2 ka event. After 3.2 cal kaBP, a transition to steppe was associated with dry conditions in the region. Based on our pollen record and prior paleoclimatic reconstructions in the Huangqihai Lake region, there was a generally-accepted, stepwise shift to a wet climate during the early Holocene, an overall humid climate from 7.2 to 3.2 cal kaBP, and then severe drought for the rest of the Holocene. 5Evidence of Abrupt Climate Change during the Mid-to Late-Holocene Recorded in a Tropical Lake, Southern China显示文摘Research on abrupt paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental change provides a scientific basis for evaluating future climate. Because of spatial variability in monsoonal rainfall, our knowledge about climate change during the mid-to lateHolocene in southern China is still limited. We present a multi-proxy record of paleoclimatic change in a crater lake, Lake Shuangchi. Based on the age-depth model from 210 Pb, 137 Cs and AMS14 C data, high-resolution mid-to late-Holocene climatic and environmental records were reconstructed using multiple indices(TOC, TN, C/N, δ13 C and grain size). Shuangchi underwent a marked change from a peat bog to a lake around 1.4 kaBP. The C3 plants likely dominated during 7.0–5.9 ka and 2.5–1.4 kaBP, while C4 plants dominated between 5.9–3.2 and 3.0–2.5 kaBP. Algae were dominant sources of organic matter in the lake sediments after 1.4 kaBP. Several intervals with high concentrations of coarser grain sizes might be due to flood events. These results reveal that several abrupt paleoclimatic events occurred around 6.6 ka, 6.1 ka, 5.9 ka, 3.0 ka, 2.5 ka and 1.4 kaBP. 11Machine learning for nanohertz gravitational wave detection and parameter estimation with pulsar timing array显示文摘Studies have shown that the use of pulsar timing arrays(PTAs)is among the approaches with the highest potential to detect very low-frequency gravitational waves in the near future.Although the capture of gravitational waves(GWs)by PTAs has not been reported yet,many related theoretical studies and some meaningful detection limits have been reported.In this study,we focused on the nanohertz GWs from individual supermassive binary black holes.Given specific pulsars(PSR J1909-3744,PSR J1713+0747,PSR J0437-4715),the corresponding GW-induced timing residuals in PTAs with Gaussian white noise can be simulated.Further,we report the classification of the simulated PTA data and parameter estimation for potential GW sources using machine learning based on neural networks.As a classifier,the convolutional neural network shows high accuracy when the combined signal to noise ratio≥1.33 for our simulated data.Further,we applied a recurrent neural network to estimate the chirp mass(M)of the source and luminosity distance(Dp)of the pulsars and Bayesian neural networks(BNNs)to obtain the uncertainties of chirp mass estimation.Knowledge of the uncertainties is crucial to astrophysical observation.In our case,the mean relative error of chirp mass estimation is less than 13.6%.Although these results are achieved for simulated PTA data,we believe that they will be important for realizing intelligent processing in PTA data analysis.MengNi Chen YuanHong Zhong Yi Feng Di Li Jin Li 2020Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2020,63,12:1
12Production of hispidin polyphenols from medicinal mushroom Sanghuangporus vaninii in submerged cultures显示文摘Objective: The medicinal mushroom Sanghuangporus vaninii produces pharmaceutically valuable hispidin polyphenols in natural habitats. However, due to the slow growth in nature, S. vaninii grown in the field(sclerotia) is not reliable for pharmaceutical purposes. Although higher biomass of fungal mycelia can be obtained in submerged cultures, the accumulation of hispidin polyphenols is rare.Methods: In this study, the polyunsaturated fatty acids(PUFAs), linoleic acid(LA), linolenic acid(ALA),and methyl jasmonate(Me Ja) were employed as the stimulant agents to coordinate the accumulation of biomass and hispidin polyphenols in its submerged cultures.Results: The addition of LA and ALA promoted the mycelial accumulation, while the addition of Me Ja inhibited the growth of S. vaninii concomitant with reduced total polyphenols. UPLC-Triple-TOF-MS analysis revealed an increased production of hispidin, phellinstatin, pinnilidine, and its derivatives upon the addition of LA and ALA, and hypholomine B and its isomer, 3,14’-bihispidinyl, and phelligridin E upon the addition of Me Ja on day 13. Intriguingly, total polyphenols from the Me Ja-supplementing cultures harbored a high capacity in scavenging free radicals. Chemical structural analysis showed that hispidin polyphenols had higher antioxidant activity due to more hispidin moieties induced by Me Ja.Conclusion: The supplement of PUFAs affects the synthesis and composition of hispidin polyphenols in S.vaninii. 13pIL-12 delivered by polymer based nanovector for anti-tumor genetherapy显示文摘Finding more effective and safe non-viral vectors to transfer genes into cancer cells has become the key of immune gene therapy for cancer.Herein a triblock compound MPEG_(2000)-PDLLA_(4000)-MPEG_(2000) modified by cationic liposome DOTAP was used as a non-viral vector DOTAP/MPEG_(2000)-PDLLA_(4000)-MPEG_(2000)(DMPM)to effectively transfer interleukin(IL)-12 plasmid(pIL-12)into tumor tissue.IL-12 produced by transfected tumor cells successfully inducing lymphocyte proliferation and promoting interferon-γ(IFN-γ)secretion,which resulted in tumor cells death.The ability of DMPM to transfer pIL-12 and the immune effect induced by IL-12 in cells had been explored.The anti-tumor effect,mechanism and safety of pIL-12/DMPM in mice cancer model were investigated in this study.Our results showed that the pIL-12 transferred by DMPM was highly expressed both in CT26 cells and B16-F10 cells.IL-12 expressed in the culture supernatant of transfected tumor cells stimulated lymphocyte proliferation and promoted IFN-γsecretion.The experimental result confirmed that pIL-12/DMPM therapy significantly reduced tumor growth in mice model.We designed the nanocomposite DMPM to deliver pIL-12 for cancer treatment and explored its therapeutic efficacy and the underlying anti-tumor mechanism.Our study suggested pIL-12 loaded by DMPM complex would be an effective strategy for cancer treatment.Lianbin Wen Xin Zan Qidi Pang Yuzhu Hu Songping Zheng Mengni Ran Xiang Gao Xiang Wang Bilan Wang 2023Chinese Chemical Letters2023,34,11:0
14An energy-efficient reconfigurable asymmetric modular cryptographic operation unit for RSA and ECC显示文摘RSA and ellipse curve cryptography(ECC)algorithms are widely used in authentication,data security,and access control.In this paper,we analyze the basic operation of the ECC and RSA algorithms and optimize their modular multiplication and modular inversion algorithms.We then propose a reconfigurable modular operation architecture,with a mix-memory unit and double multiply-accumulate structures,to realize our unified,asymmetric cryptosystem structure in an operational unit.Synthesized with 55-nm CMOS process,our design runs at 588 MHz and requires only 437801µm2 of hardware resources.Our proposed design takes 21.92 and 23.36 mW for 2048-bit RSA modular multiplication and modular inversion respectively,as well as 16.16 and 15.88 mW to complete 512-bit ECC dual-field modular multiplication and modular inversion respectively.It is more energy-efficient and flexible than existing single algorithm units.Compared with existing multiple algorithm units,our proposed method shows better performance.The operation unit is embedded in a 64-bit RISC-V processor,realizing key generation,encryption and decryption,and digital signature functions of both RSA and ECC.Our proposed design takes 0.224 and 0.153 ms for 256-bit ECC point multiplication in G(p)and G(2^(m))respectively,as well as 0.96 ms to complete 1024-bit RSA exponentiation,meeting the demand for high energy efficiency.Mengni BIE Wei LI Tao CHEN Longmei NAN Danyang YANG 2022Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering2022,23,1:0

17A Heterozygous Phospholamban Variant(p.R14del)Leads to Left Ventricular Involvement and Heart Failure Phenotypes in Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy显示文摘This study aimed to determine the prevalence and clinical features of Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy(ARVC)caused by pathogenic mutations in the Phospholamban(PLN)gene.The study included 170 patients who had a confrmed diagnosis of ARVC and underwent PLN genetic screening using next-generation sequencing.The fndings of this study provide valuable insights into the association between PLN mutations and ARVC,which can aid in the development of more efective diagnostic and treatment strategies for ARVC patients.Out of the patients evaluated,six had a rare pathogenic mutation in PLN with the same p.R14del variant.Family screening revealed that heterozygous carriers of p.R14del exhibited a defnite ARVC phenotype.In clinical studies,individuals with the p.R14del mutation experienced a similar rate of malignant arrhythmia events as those with classic desmosome mutations.After adjusting for covariates,individuals with PLN mutations had a two point one seven times greater likelihood of experiencing transplant-related risks compared to those who did not possess PLN mutations(95%CI 1.08–6.82,p=0.035).The accumulation of left ventricular fat and fbers is a pathological marker for ARVC patients with p.R14del mutations.In a cohort of 170 Chinese ARVC patients,three point fve percent of probands had the PLN pathogenic variant(p.R14del)and all were female.Our data shows that PLN-related ARVC patients are at high risk for ventricular arrhythmias and heart failure,which requires clinical diferentiation from classic ARVC.Furthermore,carrying the p.R14del mutation can be an independent prognostic risk factor in ARVC patients.Han Mo Xiumeng Hua Mengni Bao Zhe Sun Xiao Chen Mengda Xu Jiangping Song 2024Phenomics2024,4,1:0

19We Watch: An Application for Watching Video Across Two Mobile Devices显示文摘Android application called We Watch that enables high-resolution video to be shared across two mobile devices when they are close to each other. This concept has its inspiration in machine-to-machine connections in the Internet of Things(lo T). We ensure that the two parts of the video are the same size over both screens and are synchronous. Further, a user can play, pause, or stop the video by moving one device a certain distance from the other. We decide on appropriate distances through experimentation.We implemented We Watch on Android operating system and then optimize Watch so battery consumption is reduced. 20Self‑Assembly of Binderless MXene Aerogel for Multiple‑Scenario and Responsive Phase Change Composites with Ultrahigh Thermal Energy Storage Density and Exceptional Electromagnetic Interference Shielding显示文摘The severe dependence of traditional phase change materials(PCMs)on the temperature-response and lattice deficiencies in versatility cannot satisfy demand for using such materials in complex application scenarios.Here,we introduced metal ions to induce the self-assembly of MXene nanosheets and achieve their ordered arrangement by combining suction filtration and rapid freezing.Subsequently,a series of MXene/K^(+)/paraffin wax(PW)phase change composites(PCCs)were obtained via vacuum impregnation in molten PW.The prepared MXene-based PCCs showed versatile applications from macroscale technologies,successfully transforming solar,electric,and magnetic energy into thermal energy stored as latent heat in the PCCs.Moreover,due to the absence of binder in the MXene-based aerogel,MK3@PW exhibits a prime solar-thermal conversion efficiency(98.4%).Notably,MK3@PW can further convert the collected heat energy into electric energy through thermoelectric equipment and realize favorable solar-thermal-electric conversion(producing 206 mV of voltage with light radiation intensity of 200 mw cm^(−2)).An excellent Joule heat performance(reaching 105℃with an input voltage of 2.5 V)and responsive magnetic-thermal conversion behavior(a charging time of 11.8 s can achieve a thermal insulation effect of 285 s)for contactless thermotherapy were also demonstrated by the MK3@PW.Specifically,as a result of the ordered arrangement of MXene nanosheet self-assembly induced by potassium ions,MK3@PW PCC exhibits a higher electromagnetic shielding efficiency value(57.7 dB)than pure MXene aerogel/PW PCC(29.8 dB)with the same MXene mass.This work presents an opportunity for the multi-scene response and practical application of PCMs that satisfy demand of next-generation multifunctional PCCs.Chuanbiao Zhu Yurong Hao Hao Wu Mengni Chen Bingqing Quan Shuang Liu Xinpeng Hu Shilong Liu Qinghong Ji Xiang Lu Jinping Qu 2024Nano-Micro Letters2024,16,3:0
