2A chromosome-scale genome assembly of Isatis indigotica,an important medicinal plant used in traditional Chinese medicine显示文摘Isatis indigotica(2n=14)is an important medicinal plant in China.Its dried leaves and roots(called Isatidis Folium and Isatidis Radix,respectively)are broadly used in traditional Chinese medicine for curing diseases caused by bacteria and viruses such as influenza and viral pneumonia.Various classes of compounds isolated from this species have been identified as effective ingredients.Previous studies based on transcriptomes revealed only a few candidate genes for the biosynthesis of these active compounds in this medicinal plant.Here,we report a high-quality chromosome-scale genome assembly of I.indigotica with a total size of 293.88 Mb and scaffold N50=36.16 Mb using single-molecule real-time long reads and high-throughput chromosome conformation capture techniques.We annotated 30,323 highconfidence protein-coding genes.Based on homolog searching and functional annotations,we identified many candidate genes involved in the biosynthesis of main active components such as indoles,terpenoids,and phenylpropanoids.In addition,we found that some key enzyme-coding gene families related to the biosynthesis of these components were expanded due to tandem duplications,which likely drove the production of these major active compounds and explained why I.indigotica has excellent antibacterial and antiviral activities.Our results highlighted the importance of genome sequencing in identifying candidate genes for metabolite synthesis in medicinal plants.Minghui Kang Haolin Wu Qiao Yang Li Huang Quanjun Hu Tao Ma Zaiyun Li Jianquan Liu 2020Horticulture Research2020,7,1:9
3Isorhapontigenin protects against doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity via increasing YAP1 expression显示文摘As an effective anticancer drug, the clinical limitation of doxorubicin(Dox) is the time-and dose-dependent cardiotoxicity. Yes-associated protein 1(YAP1) interacts with transcription factor TEA domain 1(TEAD1) and plays an important role in cell proliferation and survival. However, the role of YAP1 in Dox-induced cardiomyopathy has not been reported. In this study, the expression of YAP1 was reduced in clinical human failing hearts with dilated cardiomyopathy and Dox-induced in vivo and in vitro cardiotoxic model. Ectopic expression of Yap1 significantly blocked Dox-induced cardiomyocytes apoptosis in TEAD1 dependent manner. Isorhapontigenin(Isor) is a new derivative of stilbene and responsible for a wide range of biological processes. Here, we found that Isor effectively relieved Doxinduced cardiomyocytes apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner in vitro. Administration with Isor(30 mg/kg/day, intraperitoneally, 3 weeks) significantly protected against Dox-induced cardiotoxicity in mice. Interestingly, Isor increased Dox-caused repression in YAP1 and the expression of its target genes in vivo and in vitro. Knockout or inhibition of Yap1 blocked the protective effects of Isor on Dox-induced cardiotoxicity. 4Phosphate limitation of phytoplankton growth in the Changjiang Estuary显示文摘Laboratory experiments of bioassay with Pltaeodaetytum tricornutum, Chatoceros didymus, Chaetoreros calcitraus and Heterogtoea sp. sampled from the Changjiang Estuary in spring and summer, 1986, indicated that both N and P limit phytoplankton growth in the medium with N : P ranged between 8-30, and N limits phytoplankton production in the medium with N: P<8, while P is the limitary nutrient in the N : P>30. Generally, N : P in the Changjiang Estuary waters is 2 times higher than Redfield ratio. The bioassay experiments with high N : P water samples collected from Changjiang Estuary show that phytoplankton production is limited by P. 5Study on the stability of non-cohesive river bank显示文摘Frequent bank collapse in nature highlights the need to study the mechanism of bank stability. This paper presents a theoretical analysis and a flume experimental study on the interaction of hydrodynamic conditions and non-cohesive banks of meandering and straight rivers. No bank collapse occurs if the bank angle is smaller than a critical value. The critical angle is a function of a dimensionless parameter K UD, which is directly proportional to the square of flow velocity near river bed and inversely proportional to the median diameter of bank material. Furthermore, the critical angle reduces with flow velocity and is higher in meandering rivers than in straight rivers. Formulas for estimating the threshold of bank stability are obtained by curve fitting method with experimental data. 6Spatial and temporal variability of colored dissolved organic matter absorption properties in the Taiwan Strait显示文摘Spatial and temporal variability of the absorption properties of colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM) in the Taiwan Strait was investigated in summer (July to August of 2006) and winter (from December 2006 to January of 2007) seasons. The CDOM absorption coefficient at 280 nm (a 280 ) showed a decreasing trend from nearshore to offshore areas while the spectral slope coefficient parameter calculated between wavelengths 275-295 nm (S 275 295 ) showed an increase, indicative of decreasing aromaticity and molecular weight of the CDOM. The average a 280 in winter (1.47 ± 0.50 m 1 ) was significantly higher than in summer (1.10 ± 0.41 m 1 ), while the average S 275 295 in winter (26.7 ± 5.2 μm 1 ) was significantly lower than in summer (30.6 ± 5.5 μm 1 ), demonstrating clear seasonal variation in CDOM abundance and properties in the Taiwan Strait. A three-end- member conservative mixing model showed that local terrestrial CDOM inputs from several rivers along the western coast were small (<5%). However, the distribution of CDOM in the Taiwan Strait is mainly controlled by water mass movement [i.e., the Zhe-min Coastal Current (ZCC) and the Kuroshio Branch Current (KBC) in winter and the South China Sea Water (SCSW) in summer]. 7Deep learning enabled localization for UAV autolanding显示文摘This article concentrates on ground vision guided autonomous landing of a fixed-wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV)within Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS)denied environments.Cascaded deep learning models are developed and employed into image detection and its accuracy promoting for UAV autolanding,respectively.Firstly,we design a target bounding box detection network Bbox Locate-Net to extract its image coordinate of the flying object.Secondly,the detected coordinate is fused into spatial localization with an extended Kalman filter estimator.Thirdly,a point regression network Point Refine-Net is developed for promoting detection accuracy once the flying vehicle’s motion continuity is checked unacceptable.The proposed approach definitely accomplishes the closed-loop mutual inspection of spatial positioning and image detection,and automatically improves the inaccurate coordinates within a certain range.Experimental results demonstrate and verify that our method outperforms the previous works in terms of accuracy,robustness and real-time criterions.Specifically,the newly developed Bbox Locate-Net attaches over 500 fps,almost five times the published state-of-the-art in this field,with comparable localization accuracy.Minghui LI Tianjiang HU 2021Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2021,34,5:3
8Using coupling slabs to tailor surface-acoustic-wave band structures in phononic crystals consisting of pillars attached to elastic substrates显示文摘The propagation of surface acoustic waves(SAWs) in two-dimensional phononic crystals(PnCs) with and without coupling-enhancement slabs was theoretically investigated using a three-dimensional finite element method.Different piezoelectric substrates,for example,lithium niobate(LiNbO_3),gallium nitride(GaN),and aluminium nitride(A1N),were taken into account.Compared to the PnCs without coupling-enhancement slabs,the coupling between each pillar and its nearest neighbor was largely enhanced in the presence of slabs.The bandwidth of the first directional band gap increased markedly compared with its initial value for the PnCs without a slab(within square symmetry).In addition,with increasing thicknesses of the slabs bonded between neighboring pillars,the first directional band-gap and second directional band gap of the PnCs tend to merge.Therefore,the structure with coupling-enhancement slabs can be used as an excellent electrical band elimination filter for most electro-SAW devices,offering a new strategy to realize chip-scale applications in electroacoustic signal processing,optoacoustic modulation,and even SAW microfluidic devices.Heng Zhang SiYuan Yu FuKang Liu Zhen Wang MingHui Lu XiaoBo Hu YanFeng Chen XianGang Xu 2017Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2017,60,4:3

10Musk secretion in muskrats(Ondatra zibethicus L.):association with lipid and cholesterol metabolism-related pathways显示文摘Male muskrats(Ondatra zibethicus L.)secrete musk from their scent glands during musk secretion season.Musk plays an important role as a communication pheromone during the breeding season.In this study,gas chromatography–mass spectrometry(GC–MS)was used to analyze the main components of musk.The GC–MS results after methyl esterification showed that 71.55%of the musk is composed of fatty acids.The other components of muskrat musk include cholesterol(9.31%)and other organics.Transcriptome comparison between musk secretion and non-secretion seasons showed significant changes in the scent glands for 53 genes involved in fatty acid and cholesterol synthesis and metabolism regulatory pathways,which include fatty acid biosynthesis,elongation,and metabolism;steroid biosynthesis;steroid hormone biosynthesis pathways.A reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction analysis confirmed these detected changes.Overall,our results indicated that lipid synthesis and metabolism play important roles in musk compound synthesis by providing energy for musk production,and the produced musk provides a mechanism for male muskrats to communicate with females during the breeding season.TIANXIANG ZHANG MEISHAN ZHANG MINGHUI SHI WEIJIANG JIN SHUMIAO ZHANG MENGYUAN FAN YIMENG LI YUPING MENG XUELIN TIAN SHUQIANG LIU DEFU HU 2021BIOCELL2021,45,2:2
11A universal spray printing strategy to prepare gradient hybrid architectures显示文摘Functionally gradient materials(FGMs)have attracted tremendous attention due to their unique properties and structures.However,it is still a great challenge to prepare scalable FGMs by a universal,cost-effective,and highly efficient method.Here,a strategy of combining in situ concentration regulation and spraying is developed to fabricate continuously gradient composite films(GCFs),where the component gradient variation can be well controlled.This strategy is universal and versatile,which is beneficial to inducing different components into GCFs with gradient distributions and further constructing them with diverse configurations on various substrates.The gradient design endows the composite films with excellent mechanical strength and gradient electron transport pathways,which ensures that GCFs directly serve as the electrodes in electrochemical devices.As a proof of concept,free-standing GCFs based on V2O5 nanomaterials are used as cathodes of aqueous zinc-ion batteries.The resultant devices deliver superior electrochemical performances in comparison with the counterparts of homogeneous case.Therefore,this universal strategy provides a promising route in the scalable production of FGMs and further extends their applications in various fields.Lingyu Du Songshan Bi Yang Hu Rui Wang Jiacai Zhu Minghui Zhang Zhiqiang Niu 2022Carbon Energy2022,4,4:2
12Feedback control can make data structure layout randomization more cost-effective under zero-day attacks显示文摘In the wake of the research community gaining deep understanding about control-hijacking attacks,data-oriented attacks have emerged.Among data-oriented attacks,data structure manipulation attack(DSMA)is a major category.Pioneering research was conducted and shows that DSMA is able to circumvent the most effective defenses against control-hijacking attacks-DEP,ASLR and CFI.Up to this day,only two defense techniques have demonstrated their effectiveness:Data Flow Integrity(DFI)and Data Structure Layout Randomization(DSLR).However,DFI has high performance overhead,and dynamic DSLR has two main limitations.L-1:Randomizing a large set of data structures will significantly affect the performance.L-2:To be practical,only a fixed sub-set of data structures are randomized.In the case that the data structures targeted by an attack are not covered,dynamic DSLR is essentially noneffective.To address these two limitations,we propose a novel technique,feedback-control-based adaptive DSLR and build a system named SALADSPlus.SALADSPlus seeks to optimize the trade-off between security and cost through feedback control.Using a novel feedback-control-based adaptive algorithm extended from the Upper Confidence Bound(UCB)algorithm,the defender(controller)uses the feedbacks(cost-effectiveness)from previous randomization cycles to adaptively choose the set of data structures to randomize(the next action).Different from dynamic DSLR,the set of randomized data structures are adaptively changed based on the feedbacks.To obtain the feedbacks,SALADSPlus inserts canary in each data structure at the time of compilation.We have implemented SALADSPlus based on gcc-4.5.0.Experimental results show that the runtime overheads are 1.8%,3.7%,and 5.3% when the randomization cycles are selected as 10s,5s,and 1s respectively.Ping Chen Zhisheng Hu Jun Xu Minghui Zhu Peng Liu 2018Cybersecurity2018,1,1:2
13Three-dimensional ordered hierarchically porous carbon materials for high performance Li-Se battery显示文摘Developing host materials with high specific surface area, good electron conductivity, and fast ion transportation channel is critical for high performance lithium-selenium(Li-Se) batteries. Herein, a series of three dimensional ordered hierarchically porous carbon(3D OHPC) materials with micro/meso/macropores are designed and synthesized for Li-Se battery. The porous structure is tuned by following the concept of the generalized Murray’s law to facilitate the mass diffusion and reduce ion transport resistance.The optimized 3D Se/OHPC cathode exhibits a very high 2 nd discharge capacity of 651 m Ah/g and retains 361 m Ah/g after 200 cycles at 0.2 C. Even at a high current rate of 5 C, the battery still shows a discharge capacity as high as 155 m Ah/g. The improved electrochemical performance is attributed to the synergy effect of the interconnected and well-designed micro, meso and macroporosity while shortened ions diffusion pathways of such Murray materials accelerate its ionic and electronic conductivities leading to the enhanced electrochemical reaction. The diffusivity coefficient in Se/OHPC can reach a very high value of 1.3 × 10^(-11)cm^(2)/s, much higher than those in single pore size carbon hosts. Their effective volume expansion accommodation capability and reduced dissolution of polyselenides ensure the high stability of the battery. 16Tone Features in Xiuning Hui Chinese Dialect显示文摘This paper describes tonal contrasts in Xiuning Hui Chinese dialect in terms of a detailed acoustic phonetic analysis of F0 and duration data from 10 native speakers. There are 2 level tones,2 rising tones,1 falling tone and 1 concave tone in Xiuning. The results show that pitch levels and pitch contours both contribute to the characterization of tones. And a detailed examination of tonal contours reveals that speakers may employ different articulatory strategies in tonal production. 19Rhesus monkeys exhibiting spontaneous ritualistic behaviors resembling obsessive-compulsive disorder显示文摘Obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD)is a chronic and debilitating psychiatric disorder that affects∼2%–3%of the population globally.Studying spontaneous OCD-like behaviors in non-human primates may improve our understanding of the disorder.In large rhesus monkey colonies,we found 10 monkeys spontaneously exhibiting persistent sequential motor behaviors(SMBs)in individual-specific sequences that were repetitive,time-consuming and stable over prolonged periods.Genetic analysis revealed severely damaging mutations in genes associated with OCD risk in humans.Brain imaging showed that monkeys with SMBs had larger gray matter(GM)volumes in the left caudate nucleus and lower fractional anisotropy of the corpus callosum.The GM volume of the left caudate nucleus correlated positively with the daily duration of SMBs.Notably,exposure to a stressor(human presence)significantly increased SMBs.In addition,fluoxetine,a serotonergic medication commonly used for OCD,decreased SMBs in these monkeys.These findings provide a novel foundation for developing better understanding and treatment of OCD.Rongwei Zhai Geya Tong Zheqin Li Weichen Song Yang Hu Sha Xu Qiqi Wei Xiaocheng Zhang Yi Li Bingbing Liao Chenyu Yuan Yinqing Fan Ge Song Yinyin Ouyang Wenxuan Zhang Yaqiu Tang Minghui Jin Yuxian Zhang He Li Zhi Yang Guan Ning Lin Dan JStein Zhi-Qi Xiong Zhen Wang 2023National Science Review2023,10,11:1
