1Antidiabetic Effects of Gegen Qinlian Decoction via the Gut Microbiota Are Attributable to Its Key Ingredient Berberine显示文摘Gegen Qinlian Decoction(GQD),a traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)formula,has long been used for the treatment of common metabolic diseases,including type 2 diabetes mellitus.However,the main limitation of its wider application is ingredient complexity of this formula.Thus,it is critically important to identify the major active ingredients of GQD and to illustrate mechanisms underlying its action.Here,we compared the effects of GQD and berberine,a hypothetical key active pharmaceutical ingredient of GQD,on a diabetic rat model by comprehensive analyses of gut microbiota,short-chain fatty acids,proinflammatory cytokines,and ileum transcriptomics.Our results show that berberine and GQD had similar effects on lowering blood glucose levels,modulating gut microbiota,inducing ileal gene expression,as well as relieving systemic and local inflammation.As expected,both berberine and GQD treatment significantly altered the overall gut microbiota structure and enriched many butyrate-producing bacteria,including Faecalibacterium and Roseburia,thereby attenuating intestinal inflammation and lowering glucose.Levels of short-chain fatty acids in rat feces were also significantly elevated after treatment with berberine or GQD.Moreover,concentration of serum proinflammatory cytokines and expression of immune-related genes,including Nfkb1,Stat1,and Ifnrg1,in pancreatic islets were significantly reduced after treatment.Our study demonstrates that the main effects of GQD can be attributed to berberine via modulating gut microbiota.The strategy employed would facilitate further standardization and widespread application of TCM in many diseases.Xizhan Xu Zezheng Gao Fuquan Yang Yingying Yang Liang Chen Lin Han Na Zhao Jiayue Xu Xinmiao Wang Yue Ma Lian Shu Xiaoxi Hu Na Lyu Yuanlong Pan Baoli Zhu Linhua Zhao Xiaolin Tong Jun Wang 2020Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2020,18,6:29

3Impact of particle size and pH on protein corona formation of solid lipid nanoparticles:A proof-of-concept study显示文摘When nanoparticles were introduced into the biological media,the protein corona would be formed,which endowed the nanoparticles with new bio-identities.Thus,controlling protein corona formation is critical to in vivo therapeutic effect.Controlling the particle size is the most feasible method during design,and the infuence of media pH which varies with disease condition is quite important.The impact of particle size and pH on bovine serum albumin(BSA)corona formation of solid lipid nanoparticles(SLNs)was studied here.The BSA corona formation of SLNs with increasing particle size(120-480 nm)in pH 6.0 and 7.4 was investigated.Multiple techniques were employed for visualization study,conformational structure study and mechanism study,etc.'BSA corona-caused aggregation'of SLN2-3 was revealed in pH 6.0 while the dispersed state of SLNs was maintained in pH 7.4,which signifcantly affected the secondary structure of BSA and cell uptake of SLNs.The main interaction was driven by van der Waals force plus hydrogen bonding in p H 7.4,while by electrostatic attraction in pH 6.0,and size-dependent adsorption was confrmed.This study provides a systematic insight to the understanding of protein corona formation of SLNs.Wenhao Wang Zhengwei Huang Yanbei Li Wenhua Wang Jiayu Shi Fangqin Fu Ying Huang Xin Pan Chuanbin Wu 2021Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2021,11,4:3

10Phase transition and photoluminescence properties of Eu^3+-doped ZnMoO4 red phosphors显示文摘Eu^(3+)-doped ZnMoO_4 with different doping concentrations were synthesized by a hydrothermal method. The effects of Eu^(3+)doping on the phase structure and photoluminescence(PL) properties of ZnMoO_4 were investigated. The result showed that the introduction of Eu^(3+) could lead to phase transition of ZnMoO_4. With the increase of Eu^(3+)doping amount, β-ZnMoO_4 was transformed to a phase gradually, which led to different photoluminescence performances. The optimized doping concentration of Eu^(3+) was 6 mol% for the highest emission intensity at 615 nm. 11Effect and Risk Assessment of Animal Manure Pollution on Huaihe River Basin, China显示文摘Currently the deteriorated water quality for Huaihe River Basin(HRB) in China was still serious because of the negative influence multiple pollution sources including animal manure. However, little attention was paid to the potential risk of animal manure for farmland and water quality of HRB. This study was quantified and forecasted animal manure risk and its spatiotemporal variations in HRB from 2008 to 2018, through pollution discharge coefficient method and pollution load calculation, combined with kriging interpolation method of ArcGIS technology, based on statistics principle. All the data were originated from livestock and poultry breeding in HRB from 2008 to 2018. The future risk of farmland and water environment in HRB was further forecasted. The results indicated that the livestock and poultry manure has become a key pollution source causing a negative influence on farmland and water quality owing to a large amount of animal manure production without efficient recycle utilization. The chemical oxygen demand(COD) and total nitrogen(TN) discharge of animal manure in HRB almost accounted for 17.00% and 39.00% of the whole COD and TN discharge in China. The diffusion concentration of TN and TP in those regions of Shangqiu, Zhoukou, Heze, Zhumadian, Luohe, Jining, Xuchang,Kaifeng, Taian and Zhengzhou of HRB has exceeded the threshold value 10.00 mg/L of TN and 0.08 mg/L of TP, causing water eutrophication and cancer villages. The assessment of farmland and water quality risk revealed that Zhumadian, Zhoukou, Shangqiu, Taian, Jining, Heze, Linyi and Rizhao belonged to high risk areas in HRB, which were still obtained high farmland and water quality risk index in 2030. 12Hepatic Zbtb18 (Zinc Finger and BTB Domain Containing 18) alleviates hepatic steatohepatitis via FXR (Farnesoid X Receptor)显示文摘A lasting imbalance between fatty acid synthesis and consumption leads to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD),coupled with hepatitis and insulin resistance.Yet the details of the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood.Here,we unraveled that the expression of the transcription factor Zbtb18 is markedly decreased in the livers of both patients and murine models of NAFLD.Hepatic Zbtb18 knockout promoted NAFLD features like impaired energy expenditure and fatty acid oxidation(FAO),and induced insulin resistance.Conversely,hepatic Zbtb18 overexpression alleviated hepato-steatosis,insulin resistance,and hyperglycemia in mice fed on a high-fat diet(HFD)or in diabetic mice.Notably,in vitro and in vivo mechanistic studies revealed that Zbtb18 transcriptional activation of Farnesoid X receptor(FXR)mediated FAO and Clathrin Heavy Chain(CLTC)protein hinders NLRP3 inflammasome activity.This key mechanism by which hepatocyte’s Zbtb18 expression alleviates NAFLD and consequent liver fibrosis was further verified by FXR’s deletion and forced expression in mice and cultured mouse primary hepatocytes(MPHs).Moreover,CLTC deletion significantly abrogated the hepatic Zbtb18 overexpression-driven inhibition of NLRP3 inflammasome activity in macrophages.Altogether,Zbtb18 transcriptionally activates the FXR-mediated FAO and CLTC expression,which inhibits NLRP3 inflammasome’s activity alleviating inflammatory stress and insulin resistance,representing an attractive remedy for hepatic steatosis and fibrosis.Lei Zhang Jiabing Chen Xiaoying Yang Chuangpeng Shen Jiawen Huang Dong Zhang Naihua Liu Chaonan Liu Yadi Zhong Yingjian Chen Kaijia Tang Jingyi Guo Tianqi Cui Siwei Duan Jiayu Li Shangyi Huang Huafeng Pan Huabing Zhang Xiaoqiang Tang Yongsheng Chang Yong Gao 2024Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2024,9,2:0
13Experimental Investigation on the Effect of Blending Ethanol on Combustion Characteristic and Idle Performance in a Gasoline Rotary Engine显示文摘Rotary engine is an ideal electric vehicle range extender.However,the combustion chamber of rotary engine is very narrow and long at the top dead center,which is detrimental to fuel combustion performance.In order to improve its economic and emission performance,this paper built an ethanol/gasoline dual-fuel rotary engine test bench,and the combustion and emission performance of gasoline rotary engine under five ethanol blending ratios were studied.The experimental results showed that,when the fuel pulse width is not adjusted,since the calorific value of ethanol is lower than that of gasoline and the latent heat of vaporization of ethanol is higher than that of gasoline,the addition of ethanol in gasoline lowers the peak pressure.When the ethanol blending ratio reaches 30 vol%,the pressure curve shows a distinct double peak.Under the theoretical air-fuel ratio condition,mixing ethanol in gasoline increases the heat release rate,shortens the combustion duration while prolonging delay period.After blending ethanol,HC,CO and NO_(x)emissions have been reduced under various operating conditions.Excessive ethanol blending ratio increases NO_(x)emissions and increases cycle variation coefficient.When the ethanol blending ratio is 15 vol%,it has better power ability while maintaining low cycle variation coefficient and emissions.PAN Jianfeng CHENG Biao TAO Jiayu FAN Baowei LIU Yangxian OTCHERE Peter 2021Journal of Thermal Science2021,30,4:0

15The hydrogen storage performance and catalytic mechanism of theMgH_(2)-MoS_(2)composite显示文摘In this work,we synthesized MoS_(2)catalyst via one-step hydrothermal method,and systematically investigated the catalytic effect of MoS_(2)on the hydrogen storage properties of MgH_(2).The MgH_(2)-5MoS_(2)composite milled for 5 h starts to release hydrogen at 259℃.Furthermore,it can desorb 4.0 wt.%hydrogen within 20 min at 280℃,and absorb 4.5 wt.%hydrogen within 5 min at 200℃.Mo and MoS_(2)coexistedin the ball milled sample,whereas only Mo was kept in the sample after dehydrogenation and rehydrogenation,which greatly weakens theMg-H bonds and facilitates the dissociation of MgH_(2)on the surface of Mo(110).The comparative study show that the formed MgS has nocatalytic effect for MgH_(2).We believed that the evolution and the catalytic mechanism of MoS_(2)will provide the theoretical guidance for theapplication of metal sulfide in hydrogen storage materials.Luxiang Wang Yiwanting Hu Jiayu Lin Haiyan Leng Chenghua Sun Chengzhang Wu Qian Li Fusheng Pan 2023Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2023,11,7:0

17Challenges and improvement in management of neonates born to mothers with COVID-19 in China显示文摘Objective:China was the first country suffering from the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and one of the countries with stringent mother-neonate isolation measure implemented.Now increasing evidence suggests that coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)should not be taken as an indication for formula feeding or isolation of the infant from the mother.Methods:We conducted a retrospective cohort study in 44 hospitals from 14 provinces in China to investigate the management of neonates whose mothers have confirmed or suspected COVID-19.In addition,65 members of Chinese Neonatologist Association(CNA)were invited to give their comments and suggestions on the clinical management guidelines for high-risk neonates.Results:There were 121 neonates born to 118 mothers suspected with COVID-19 including 42 mothers with SARS-CoV-2 positive results and 76 mothers with SARS-CoV-2 negative results.All neonates were born by caesarean section,isolated from their mothers immediately after birth and were formula-fed.Five neonates were positive for SARSCoV-2 at initial testing between 36 and 46 h after birth.Regarding the confusion on the clinical management guidelines,58.78%of the newborns were put into isolation,32.22%were subject to PCR tests,and 5.16%and 2.75%received breastfeeding and vaccination,respectively.Conclusion:The clinical symptoms of neonates born to mothers with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 were mild,though five neonates might have been infected in utero or during delivery.Given the favorable outcomes of neonates born to COVID-confirmed mothers,full isolation may not be warranted.Rather,separation of the mother and her newborn should be assessed on a case-by-case basis,considering local facilities and risk factors for adverse outcomes,such as prematurity and fetal distress.Jie Yang Zhuxiao Ren Lingkong Zeng Shiwen Xia Lin Wang Jiayu Miao Zhe Zhao Chuanzhong Yang Xiuyong Cheng Huayan Zhang Yuanfang Zhu Li Liu Xirong Gao Bin Yi Zhenlang Lin Wei Liu Xiaoyu Zhou Benqing Wu Ling Chen Zhankui Li Xuefeng Zhang Wei Lu Lianhong Zhang Xiao Chen Xiaoyun Zhong Falin Xu Jinhui Wu Yong Ji Jiahua Pan Yanxiang Chen Carine Ronsmans Zhichun Feng 2022Frigid Zone Medicine2022,2,2:0
