| 1 | Genomic characterizations of H4 subtype avian influenza viruses from live poultry markets in Sichuan province of China, 2014–2015显示文摘Dear Editor,Avian influenza viruses (AIVs) have posed a serious threat to poultry production and public health. To date, more than fourteen AIV subtypes that are able to infect human beings have been documented. Also, it is suggested that new subtypes may be reported in the future, owing to the migration of wild birds and live poultry transportation (Gao, 2018).Poultry may act as a potential incubator for novel subtypes of avian influenza virus (Bi et al., 2016a; Bi et al., 2016b; Liu et al., 2014a; Su et al., 2017). | 3 | High-precision uranium-series dating of lacustrine carbonates from Daihai Lake显示文摘Ages of small aragonite samples retrieved from sediments from the Daihai Lake are determined by using the Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometry (TIMS) technique. The ages of the samples range from (8740±601) to (10446±489) a, with a precision of 2%-3% for non-corrected dating ages and 4.7%-9.8% for corrected ages respectively, and are consistent within the deviation range. At about 10.5 ka BP, the grain-size of the sediments coarsens sharply, the frequency curves of grain-size distribution show coarse grain dominated single-double kurtosis, indicating cooling, decreased hydrodynamic conditions and increased wind influence procedure. This is in good agreement with previous results obtained from the Daihai Lake, which suggests that the climate was cold and the lake surface was shrinking. | 7 | Genomic mosaicism due to homoeologous exchange generates extensive phenotypic diversity in nascent allopolyploids显示文摘Allopolyploidy is an important process in plant speciation,yet newly formed allopolyploid species typically suffer from extreme genetic bottlenecks.One escape from this impasse might be homoeologous meiotic pairing,during which homoeologous exchanges(HEs)generate phenotypically variable progeny.However,the immediate genome-wide patterns and resulting phenotypic diversity generated by HEs remain largely unknown.Here,we analyzed the genome composition of 202 phenotyped euploid segmental allopolyploid individuals from the fourth selfed generation following chromosomal doubling of reciprocal F1 hybrids of crosses between rice subspecies,using whole-genome sequencing.We describe rampant occurrence of HEs that,by overcoming incompatibility or conferring superiority of hetero-cytonuclear interactions,generate extensive and individualized genomic mosaicism across the analyzed tetraploids.We show that the resulting homoeolog copy number alteration in tetraploids affects known-function genes and their complex genetic interactions,in the process creating extraordinary phenotypic diversity at the population level following a single initial hybridization.Our results illuminate the immediate genomic landscapes possible in a tetraploid genomic environment,and underscore HE as an important mechanism that fuels rapid phenotypic diversification accompanying the initial stages of allopolyploid evolution. | Ying Wu Fan Lin Yao Zhou Jie Wang Shuai Sun Bin Wang Zhibin Zhang Guo Li Xiuyun Lin Xutong Wang Yue Sun Qianli Dong Chunming Xu Lei Gong Jonathan F.Wendel Zhiwu Zhang Bao Liu | 2021 | National Science Review2021,8,5: | 1 |

| 11 | Early performance of Pinus radiata provenances in the earthquakeravaged dry river valley area of Sichuan, southwest China显示文摘A provenance experiment involving five native provenances and an Australian landrace of Pinus radiata(D.Don) was established over three sites in the dry river valley area of Sichuan, southwest China in 2004 in order to select the most suitable provenance for environmental planting on the dry, steep and degraded slopes to reduce soil erosion.Although with much lower soil moisture supply and mean minimum temperatures in winter compared to P.radiata provenance trials established elsewhere in the world, these sites are within the working limits of the species defined by previous climate modelling and matching.Because of the difficult site conditions and severe natural disturbances after the experiment was established, mortality was high across the three sites in comparison to provenance trials in other countries.The average mor-tality rate among the provenance by replicate planting units over the three sites varied from 16% to 76% four years after planting, and from40% to 88% five years after planting.The repeated measurements of tree size over time were analysed using multilevel linear mixed models to derive growth curves for the mean, median, the 75th and the 90th percentiles of the size distribution of each provenance at each site.There were significant site effects on tree growth, but no significant interactions between site and provenance was detected.Among the six provenances,Cambria was the best performer in diameter, height and stem volume growth across all sites.The better than average and the best trees of this provenance, as represented by the 75th and 90th percentiles of the nominal stem volume distribution, were significantly larger than the Australian landrace, A o Nuevo, and the two island provenances, Guadalupe and Cedros.Monterey was overall the second best performer behind Cambria.The Australian landrace, Guadalupe and A o Nuevo had similar performances in general.Cedros was significantly and consistently inferior to all other native provenances and the Australian land race.Because the genetic base of the present Australian plantations was derived largely from A o Nuevo and Monterey, the superior early growth performance of Cambria at such difficult sites brings a new promise to the search of P.radiata provenances for the vast dryland areas in New South Wales and other parts of Australia. | Huiquan Bi Rongwei Li Zongxing Wu Quan Huang Qianli Liu Yongli Zhou Yun Li | 2013 | Journal of Forestry Research2013,24,4: | 0 |
