1Hepatitis B virus infection:A favorable prognostic factor for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma after resection显示文摘AIM: To study the prognostic factors for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) and evaluate the impact of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection on survival rate of ICC patients. METHODS: A total of 155 ICC patients who underwent macroscopic curative resections (R0 and R1) were enrolled in this retrospective study and divided into group A with HBV infection and group B without HBV infection according to their chronic HBV infection, represented by positive hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) in serum or in liver tissue. Clinicopathological characteristics and survival rate of the patients were evaluated. RESULTS: All patients underwent anatomical resection. Their 1- and 3-year survival rates were 60.6% and 32.1%, respectively. Multivariate analyses revealed that HBV infection, hepatolithiasis, microscopic satellite lesion, and lymphatic metastasis were the independent prognostic factors for the survival rate of ICC patients. The median disease-free survival time of the patients was 5.0 mo. The number of tumors, microscopic satellite lesion, and vascular invasion were the independent prognostic factors for the disease-free survival rate of the patients. The prognostic factors affecting the survival rate of ICC patients with HBV infection and those without HBV infection were not completely consistent. Alkaline phosphatase > 119 U/L, microscopic satellite lesion, vascular invasion, and lymphatic metastasis were the independent factors for the patients with HBV infection, while rglutamyltransferase > 64 U/L, microscopic satellite lesion, and poor tumor differentiation were the independent factors for the patients without HBV infection. CONCLUSION: HBV infection is a valuable clinical factor for predicting tumor invasiveness and clinical outcome of ICC patients. 2Perivascular adipose tissue dysfunction aggravates adventitial remodeling in obese mini pigs via NLRP3 inflammasome/IL-1 signaling pathway显示文摘Perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT), a special type of adipose tissue, closely surrounds vascular adventitia and produces numerous bioactive substances to maintain vascular homeostasis. PVAT dysfunction has a crucial role in regulating vascular remodeling, but the exact mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we investigated whether and how obesity-induced PVAT dysfunction affected adventitia remodeling in early vascular injury stages. Mini pigs were fed a high sugar and fat diet for 6 months to induce metabolic syndrome and obesity. In the mini pigs, left carotid vascular injury was then generated using balloon dilation. Compared with normal mini pigs, obese mini pigs displayed significantly enhanced vascular injury-induced adventitial responses, evidenced by adventitia fibroblast (AF) proliferation and differentiation, and adventitia fibrosis, as well as exacerbated PVAT dysfunction characterized by increased accumulation of resident macrophages, particularly the M1 pro-infiammatory phenotype, increased expression of leptin and decreased expression of adiponectin, and production of pro-infiammatory cytokines interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18. Primary AFs cultured in PVAT-conditioned medium from obese mini pigs also showed significantly increased proliferation and differentiation. We further revealed that activated nod-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) infiammasome and its downstream products, i.e., IL-1 family members such as IL-1β and IL-18 were upregulated in the PVAT of obese mini pigs;PVAT dysfunction was also demonstrated in preadipocytes treated with palmitic acid. Finally, we showed that pretreatment with IL-1 receptor (IL-1R) antagonist or IL-1R knockdown blocked AF proliferation and differentiation in AFs cultured in PVAT-conditioned medium. 3Decreased Average Albumin-to-Globulin Ratio During Radiotherapy Worsens the Prognosis of Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma:Implications for Nutritional Management显示文摘Objective Malnutrition and cachexia are common in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)patients undergoing radiotherapy.This study evaluated how malnutrition-and cachexia-related indicators,including the albumin-to-globulin ratio(AGR),and their changes during radiotherapy predict the treatment outcomes.Methods We reviewed a total of 172 ESCC patients receiving radiotherapy(as a primary cohort)and performed a Cox regression analysis on potential prognostic factors,including the AGR,as well as the TNM stage and concomitant chemotherapy.A subsequent receiver operating characteristics(ROC)curve and Kaplan Meier survival analysis was performed for ESCC patients stratified by the average AGR cut-off point.Results In addition to the well-documented factors(i.e.TNM stage and concomitant chemotherapy),the average AGR was a significant prognostic factor for ESCC patients receiving radiotherapy.By plotting the ROC curve of the average AGR with regard to the ESCC prognosis,we obtained cut-off points for the overall patients(cut-off point:1.5,AUC:0.636),for patients with stageⅡ/Ⅲdisease(cut-off point:1.5,AUC:0.611),and for patients with stageⅣdisease(cut-off point:1.84,AUC:0.900).The ESCC patients with higher average AGR had a significantly more favorable OS compared with those with a lower average AGR.Notably,ESCC patients who had an increasingΔAGR during radiotherapy had a considerably more favorable OS compared with those with a decreasingΔAGR.All of these findings were reproducible in the validation cohort.Conclusion A lower average AGR is indicative of a poorer prognosis for ESCC patients following radiotherapy.Improving the nutritional status and preventing or ameliorating cachexia might contribute to improving the prognosis of ESCC patients.Fen Cai Xiu Lian Zhang Xiao Ling Wu Ting Ting Zhuang Lei Huang Yi Fei Tu Yuan Yuan Lu Min Xia Jiang Qing Ying Zhang Yan Lin Chang Chun Ma 2021Journal of Nutritional Oncology2021,6,2:8
4Different dissecting orders of the pulmonary bronchus and vessels during right upper lobectomy are associated with surgical feasibility and postoperative recovery for lung cancer patients显示文摘Background: Right upper lobectomy(RUL) for lung cancer with di erent dissecting orders involves the most vari?able anatomical structures, but no studies have analyzed its e ects on postoperative recovery. This study compared the conventional surgical approach, VAB(dissecting pulmonary vessels first, followed by the bronchus), and the alter?native surgical approach, a BVA(dissecting the posterior ascending arterial branch first, followed by the bronchus and vessels) on improving surgical feasibility and postoperative recovery for lung cancer patients.Methods: According to the surgical approach, consecutive lung cancer patients undergoing RUL were grouped into a BVA and VAB cohorts. Their clinical, pathologic, and perioperative characteristics were collected to compare periop?erative outcomes.Results: Three hundred one patients were selected(109 in the a BVA cohort and 192 in the VAB cohort). The mean operation time was shorter in the a BVA cohort than in the VAB cohort(164 vs. 221 min, P < 0.001), and less blood loss occurred in the a BVA cohort(92 vs. 141 m L, P < 0.001). The rate of conversion to thoracotomy was lower in the a BVA cohort than in the VAB cohort(0% vs. 11.5%, P < 0.001). The mean duration of postoperative chest drainage was shorter in the a BVA cohort than in the VAB cohort(3.6 vs. 4.5 days, P rvival was n= 0.001). The rates of postoperative complica?tions were comparable(P = 0.629). The median overall suot arrived in both cohorts(P > 0.05). The median disease?free survival was comparable for all patients in the two cohorts(not arrived vs. 41.97 months) and for patients with disease recurrences(13.25 vs. 9.44 months)(both P > 0.05). 5Atomic Co/Ni dual sites with N/P-coordination as bifunctional oxygen electrocatalyst for rechargeable zinc-air batteries显示文摘Metal-nitrogen-carbon(M-N-C)single-atom catalysts exhibit desirable electrochemical catalytic properties.However,the replacement of N atoms by heteroatoms(B,P,S,etc.)has been regarded as a useful method for regulating the coordination environment.The structure engineered M-N-C sites via doping heteroatoms play an important role to the adsorption and activation of the oxygen intermediate.Herein,we develop an efficient strategy to construct dual atomic site catalysts via the formation of a Co_(1)-PN and Ni1-PN planar configuration.The developed Co_(1)-PNC/Ni1-PNC catalyst exhibits excellent bifunctional electrocatalytic performance in alkaline solution.Both experimental and theoretical results demonstrated that the N/P coordinated Co/Ni sites moderately reduced the binding interaction of oxygen intermediates.The Co_(1)-PNC/Ni1-PNC endows a rechargeable Zn-air battery with excellent power density and cycling stability as an air-cathode,which is superior to that of the benchmark Pt/C+IrO_(2).This work paves an avenue for design of dual single-atomic sites and regulation of the atomic configuration on carbon-based materials to achieve high-performance electrocatalysts.Botao Hu Aijian Huang Xuejiang Zhang Zheng Chen Renyong Tu Wei Zhu Zhongbin Zhuang Chen Chen Qing Peng Yadong Li 2021Nano Research2021,14,10:6

8Durable endothelium-mimicking coating for surface bioengineering cardiovascular stents显示文摘Mimicking the nitric oxide(NO)-release and glycocalyx functions of native vascular endothelium on cardiovascular stent surfaces has been demonstrated to reduce in-stent restenosis(ISR)effectively.However,the practical performance of such an endothelium-mimicking surfaces is strictly limited by the durability of both NO release and bioactivity of the glycocalyx component.Herein,we present a mussel-inspired amine-bearing adhesive coating able to firmly tether the NO-generating species(e.g.,Cu-DOTA coordination complex)and glycocalyx-like component(e.g.,heparin)to create a durable endothelium-mimicking surface.The stent surface was firstly coated with polydopamine(pDA),followed by a surface chemical cross-link with polyamine(pAM)to form a durable pAMDA coating.Using a stepwise grafting strategy,Cu-DOTA and heparin were covalently grafted on the pAMDA-coated stent based on carbodiimide chemistry.Owing to both the high chemical stability of the pAMDA coating and covalent immobilization manner of the molecules,this proposed strategy could provide 62.4%bioactivity retention ratio of heparin,meanwhile persistently generate NO at physiological level from 5.9±0.3 to 4.8±0.4×10^(-10) mol cm^(-2) min^(-1) in 1 month.As a result,the functionalized vascular stent showed long-term endothelium-mimicking physiological effects on inhibition of thrombosis,inflammation,and intimal hyperplasia,enhanced re-endothelialization,and hence efficiently reduced ISR.Qing Ma Xiuying Shi Xing Tan Rui Wang Kaiqin Xiong Manfred F.Maitz Yuanyuan Cui Zhangmei Hu Qiufen Tu Nan Huang Li Shen Zhilu Yang 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,12:3
9Comparison of Murraya exotica and Murraya paniculata by fingerprint analysis coupled with chemometrics and network pharmacology methods显示文摘There are two source plants for the traditional Chinese medicine Murrayae Folium et Cacumen(MFC)in Chinese Pharmacopoeia,i.e.Murraya exotica L.and M.paniculata(L.)Jack.Herein,a chemical comparison of M.exotica and M.paniculata by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC)fingerprint analysis coupled with chemometrics and network pharmacology was performed.The main peaks in the fingerprints were identified by liquid chromatography coupled with ion trap/time-of-flight mass spectrometry(LC-IT-TOF-MS)and authenticated by references.The chemometrics results showed that the HPLC fingerprints of these two species were clearly divided into two categories using hierarchical cluster analysis(HCA)and principal component analysis(PCA),and a total of 13 significantly differentiated markers were screened out by orthogonal partial least squares-discriminant analysis(OPLS-DA).However,the following network pharmacology analysis showed that these discriminated markers were found to act via many common targets and metabolic pathways,indicating the possibly similar pharmacological effects and mechanisms for M.exotica and M.paniculata.The above results provide valuable evidence for the equivalent use of these two plants in clinical settings.Moreover,the chromatographic fingerprint analysis coupled with chemometrics and network pharmacology supplies an efficient approach for the comparative analysis of multi-source TCMs like MFC.LIANG Hai-Zhen DU Zhi-Yong YUAN Shuo LU Meng-Qiu XING Jian-Yong MA Qing HAN Zheng-Zhou TU Peng-Fei JIANG Yong 2021Chinese Journal of Natural Medicines2021,19,9:3

11Short-term efficacy of robotic and laparoscopic spleen-preserving splenic hilar lymphadenectomy via Huang’s three-step maneuver for advanced upper gastric cancer: Results from a propensity scorematched study显示文摘BACKGROUND Robotic surgery has been considered to be significantly better than laparoscopic surgery for complicated procedures.AIM To explore the short-term effect of robotic and laparoscopic spleen-preserving splenic hilar lymphadenectomy(SPSHL)for advanced gastric cancer(GC)by Huang’s three-step maneuver.METHODS A total of 643 patients who underwent SPSHL were recruited from April 2012 to July 2017,including 35 patients who underwent robotic SPSHL(RSPSHL)and 608 who underwent laparoscopic SPSHL(LSPSHL).One-to-four propensity score matching was used to analyze the differences in clinical data between patients who underwent robotic SPSHL and those who underwent laparoscopic SPSHL.RESULTS In all,175 patients were matched,including 35 patients who underwent RSPSHL and 140 who underwent LSPSHL.After matching,there were no significant differences detected in the baseline characteristics between the two groups.Significant differences in total operative time,estimated blood loss(EBL),splenic hilar blood loss(SHBL),splenic hilar dissection time(SHDT),and splenic trunk dissection time were evident between these groups(P<0.05).Furthermore,no significant differences were observed between the two groups in the overall noncompliance rate of lymph node(LN)dissection(62.9%vs 60%,P=0.757),number of retrieved No.10 LNs(3.1±1.4 vs 3.3±2.5,P=0.650),total number of examined LNs(37.8±13.1 vs 40.6±13.6,P=0.274),and postoperative complications(14.3%vs 17.9%,P=0.616).A stratified analysis that divided the patients receiving RSPSHL into an early group(EG)and a late group(LG)revealed that the LG experienced obvious improvements in SHDT and length of stay compared with the EG(P<0.05).Logistic regression showed that robotic surgery was a significantly protective factor against both SHBL and SHDT(P<0.05).CONCLUSION RSPSHL is safe and feasible,especially after overcoming the early learning curve,as this procedure results in a radical curative effect equivalent to that of LSPSHL.Jia-Bin Wang Zhi-Yu Liu Qi-Yue Chen Qing Zhong Jian-Wei Xie Jian-Xian Lin Jun Lu Long-Long Cao Mi Lin Ru-Hong Tu Ze-Ning Huang Ju-Li Lin Hua-Long Zheng Si-Jin Que Chao-Hui Zheng Chang-Ming Huang Ping Li 2019World Journal of Gastroenterology2019,25,37:2

14Biomaterial-based platforms for cancer stem cell enrichment and study显示文摘Cancer stem cells(CSCs)are a relatively rare subpopulation of tumor cell with self-renewal and tumorigenesis capabilities.CSCs are associated with cancer recurrence,progression,and chemoradiotherapy resistance.Establishing a reliable platform for CSC enrichment and study is a prerequisite for understanding the characteristics of CSCs and discovering CSC-related therapeutic strategies.Certain strategies for CSC enrichment have been used in laboratory,particularly fluorescence-activated cell sorting(FACS)and mammosphere culture.However,these methods fail to recapitulate the in vivo chemical and physical conditions in tumors,thus potentially decreasing the malignancy of CSCs in culture and yielding unreliable research results.Accumulating research suggests the promise of a biomaterial-based three-dimensional(3 D)strategy for CSC enrichment and study.This strategy has an advantage over conventional methods in simulating the tumor microenvironment,thus providing a more effective and predictive model for CSC laboratory research.In this review,we first briefly discuss the conventional methods for CSC enrichment and study.We then summarize the latest advances and challenges in biomaterial-based 3 D CSC platforms.Design strategies for materials,morphology,and chemical and physical cues are highlighted to provide direction for the future construction of platforms for CSC enrichment and study.Chunhua Luo Zhongjie Ding Yun Tu Jiao Tan Qing Luo Guanbin Song 2021Cancer Biology & Medicine2021,18,2:2
