1Emodin alleviates cardiac fibrosis by suppressing activation of cardiac fibroblasts via upregulating metastasis associated protein 3显示文摘Excess activation of cardiac fibroblasts inevitably induces cardiac fibrosis. Emodin has been used as a natural medicine against several chronic diseases. The objective of this study is to determine the effects of emodin on cardiac fibrosis and the underlying molecular mechanisms. Intragastric administration of emodin markedly decreased left ventricular wall thickness in a mouse model of pathological cardiac hypertrophy with excess fibrosis induced by transaortic constriction(TAC) and suppressed activation of cardiac fibroblasts induced by angiotensin II(AngII). Emodin upregulated expression of metastasis associated protein 3(MTA3) and restored the MTA3 expression in the setting of cardiac fibrosis. Moreover, overexpression of MTA3 promoted cardiac fibrosis;in contrast, silence of MTA3 abrogated the inhibitory effect of emodin on fibroblast activation. 2Molecular Characterization of Hydrotreated Atmospheric Residue Derived from Arabian Heavy Crude by GC FI/FD TOF MS and APPI FT-ICR MS显示文摘High resolution mass spectrometry in combination with distillation and SARA fractionation provides us an opportunity for in-depth understanding about the hydrotreating process at the molecular level. In this study, the atmospheric residue derived from Arabian heavy crude and its hydrotreated products were initially subjected to distillation and SARA fractionation. The saturates were characterized by GC FI/FD TOF MS. The aromatics and resins were characterized by APPI FT-ICR MS. Compositional changes of different compounds (paraffins, naphthenes, aromatic hydrocarbons, and heteroatomic compounds) contained in different distillates (vacuum gas oil, vacuum residue) were obtained. 3Growth performance and rumen microorganism differ between segregated weaning lambs and grazing lambs显示文摘Two feeding patterns of the segregated weaning or grazing in the pasture are carried out worldwide in animal production.To investigate the difference of growth performance and rumen microorganism population related to methane metabolism in the two feeding patterns,three groups of lambs(70 in total)were used:Weaning at 21 days old and being subjected to high-concentration diets(3WK group with 20 lambs),weaning at 35 days old and being subjected to high-concentration diets(5WK group with 20 lambs),or grazing at pasture with the nursing mother(Grazing group with 30 lambs).The growth performance,pH value of rumen content,and the rumen microbes were investigated during weaning period and fattening period with approximately 3 months.Our results showed that lambs in 3WK and 5WK groups demonstrated a better growth performance than the lambs in Grazing group,but no significant difference was observed in the pH value between the three groups(P>0.05).The total rumen bacterial population of the Grazing lambs was significantly lower than that of3WK lambs(P<0.05)and 5WK lambs(P<0.05);however,the population of methanogens was 4.2-and 2.7-fold lower in the3WK(P<0.05)and 5WK(P<0.05)lambs compared with Grazing lambs,respectively;protozoa were also 3.5-and 3.4-fold lower in the 3WK(P<0.05)and 5WK(P<0.05)lambs,respectively.The results revealed that segregated weaning lambs may have better growth performance,and reduce methane-producing microbes.JI Shou-kun JIANG Cheng-gang LI Rui DIAO Qi-yu TU Yan ZHANG Nai-feng SI Bing-wen 2016Journal of Integrative Agriculture2016,15,4:2

8Complexity Analysis and Algorithm Design of Pooling Problem显示文摘The pooling problem,also called the blending problem,is fundamental in production planning of petroleum.It can be formulated as an optimization problem similar with the minimum-cost flow problem.However,Alfaki and Haugland(J Glob Optim 56:897–916,2013)proved the strong NP-hardness of the pooling problem in general case.They also pointed out that it was an open problem to determine the computational complexity of the pooling problem with a fixed number of qualities.In this paper,we prove that the pooling problem is still strongly NP-hard even with only one quality.This means the quality is an essential difference between minimum-cost flow problem and the pooling problem.For solving large-scale pooling problems in real applications,we adopt the non-monotone strategy to improve the traditional successive linear programming method.Global convergence of the algorithm is established.The numerical experiments show that the non-monotone strategy is effective to push the algorithm to explore the global minimizer or provide a good local minimizer.Our results for real problems from factories show that the proposed algorithm is competitive to the one embedded in the famous commercial software Aspen PIMS.Yu-Hong Dai Rui Diao Kai Fu 2018Journal of the Operations Research Society of China2018,6,2:1

10An Efficient Inexact Newton-CG Algorithm for the Smallest Enclosing Ball Problem of Large Dimensions显示文摘In this paper,we consider the problem of computing the smallest enclosing ball(SEB)of a set of m balls in Rn,where the product mn is large.We first approximate the non-differentiable SEB problem by its log-exponential aggregation function and then propose a computationally efficient inexact Newton-CG algorithm for the smoothing approximation problem by exploiting its special(approximate)sparsity structure.The key difference between the proposed inexact Newton-CG algorithm and the classical Newton-CG algorithm is that the gradient and the Hessian-vector product are inexactly computed in the proposed algorithm,which makes it capable of solving the large-scale SEB problem.We give an adaptive criterion of inexactly computing the gradient/Hessian and establish global convergence of the proposed algorithm.We illustrate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm by using the classical Newton-CG algorithm as well as the algorithm from Zhou et al.(Comput Optim Appl 30:147–160,2005)as benchmarks.Ya-Feng Liu Rui Diao Feng Ye Hong-Wei Liu 2016Journal of the Operations Research Society of China2016,4,2:1
11Structure modeling of activated carbons used for simulating methane adsorption-A review显示文摘Activated carbons(ACs)are highly porous materials with a broad range of applications in industry such as gas storage,water and air purification,gas separation,and catalysis.The microstructure for ACs is still not clearly known in spite of their wide industrial uses.There have been efforts to describe the structure of activated carbons experimentally in relation to its methane adsorption characteristics.In this review,it is assumed that natural gas is sorely composed of CH_(4)for simplicity(because CH_(4)is the major component,>90%).Experimental means to unveil the microstructure and many other properties for these ACs have some limitations,to overcome these limitations,ACs structural modeling and simulation become very important to match the properties with the desired methane adsorption characteristics.The major challenge that methane adsorption simulation faces for so long,is the lack of realistic AC models.This paper reviews the current efforts to develop the realistic AC models for methane adsorption,most of the built models are based on experimental carbon structural findings from the previous studies.The structural parameters including pore size distribution(PSD),specific surface area(SSA),pore volume and extent of curvature in the carbon materials and their role to methane adsorption are discussed.The role of chemical properties,such as presence of functional groups and the nature of the functional groups to the adsorption properties of methane,are also introduced.Different pore morphologies(such as slit pore,platelet,spherical,etc.)are studied with their effect on methane adsorption and presented too.It is found that each of the mentioned parameters has its own bearing to methane adsorption.Furthermore,this work analyzes different current techniques used in modeling natural gas adsorption,and the mechanisms are able to reproduce the specific carbon materials for a certain desired set of adsorption characteristic.Some future works are also recommended in this area,so that better representations of ACs can be obtained for methane storage purposes.John Rwiza Rugarabamu Dongfeng Zhao Shi Li Rui Diao Kunli Song 2023Petroleum Research2023,8,1:0

14Neutralization against SARS-CoV-2 Delta/Omicron variants and B cell response after inactivated vaccination among COVID-19 convalescents显示文摘Emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants have made COVID-19 convalescents susceptible to re-infection and have raised concern about the efficacy of inactivated vaccination in neutralization against emerging variants and antigen-specific B cell response.To this end,a study on a long-term cohort of 208 participants who have recovered from COVID-19 was conducted,and the participants were followed up at 3.3(Visit 1),9.2(Visit 2),and 18.5(Visit 3)months after SARS-CoV-2 infection.They were classified into three groups(no-vaccination(n=54),one-dose(n=62),and two-dose(n=92)groups)on the basis of the administration of inactivated vaccination.The neutralizing antibody(NAb)titers against the wild-type virus continued to decrease in the no-vaccination group,but they rose significantly in the one-dose and two-dose groups,with the highest NAb titers being observed in the two-dose group at Visit 3.The NAb titers against the Delta variant for the no-vaccination,one-dose,and two-dose groups decreased by 3.3,1.9,and 2.3 folds relative to the wild-type virus,respectively,and those against the Omicron variant decreased by 7.0,4.0,and 3.8 folds,respectively.Similarly,the responses of SARS-CoV-2 RBD-specific B cells and memory B cells were boosted by the second vaccine dose.Results showed that the convalescents benefited from the administration of the inactivated vaccine(one or two doses),which enhanced neutralization against highly mutated SARS-CoV-2 variants and memory B cell responses.Two doses of inactivated vaccine among COVID-19 convalescents are therefore recommended for the prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic,and vaccination guidelines and policies need to be updated.Hao Wang Yu Yuan Bihao Wu Mingzhong Xiao Zhen Wang Tingyue Diao Rui Zeng Li Chen Yanshou Lei Pinpin Long Yi Guo Xuefeng Lai Yuying Wen Wenhui Li Hao Cai Lulu Song Wei Ni Youyun Zhao Kani Ouyang Jingzhi Wang Qi Wang Li Liu Chaolong Wang An Pan Xiaodong Li Rui Gong Tangchun Wu 2023Frontiers of Medicine2023,17,4:0

16Integrated genomic and transcriptomic analysis reveals genes associated with plant height of foxtail millet显示文摘Foxtail millet(Setaria italica)is an important C4 model crop;however,due to its high-density planting and high stature,lodging at the filling stage resulted in a serious reduction in yield and quality.Therefore,it is imperative to identify and deploy the genes controlling foxtail millet plant height.In this study,we used a semi-dwarf line 263A and an elite high-stalk breeding variety,Chuang 29 to construct an F2 population to identify dwarf genes.We performed transcriptome analysis(RNA-seq)using internode tissues sampled at three jointing stages of 263A and Chuang 29,as well as bulk segregant analysis(BSA)on their F2 population.A total of 8918 differentially expressed genes(DEGs)were obtained from RNA-seq analysis,and GO analysis showed that DEGs were enriched in functions such as‘‘gibberellin metabolic process”and‘‘oxidoreductase activity”,which have previously been shown to be associated with plant height.A total 593 mutated genes were screened by BSA-seq method.One hundred and seventy-six out of the 593 mutated genes showed differential expression levels between the two parental lines,and seven genes not only showed differential expression in two or three internode tissues but also showed high genomic variation in coding regions,which indicated they play a crucial role in plant height determination.Among them,we found a gibberellin biosynthesis related GA20 oxidase gene(Seita.5G404900),which had a single-base at the third exon,leading to the frameshift mutation at 263A.Cleaved amplified polymorphic sequence assay and association analysis proved the single-base in Seita.5G404900 co-segregated with dwarf phenotype in two independent F2 populations planted in entirely different environments.Taken together,the candidate genes identified in this study will help to elucidate the genetic basis of foxtail millet plant height,and the molecular marker will be useful for marker-assisted dwarf breeding.Mengyuan Zhu Qiang He Mingjie Lyu Tiantian Shi Qian Gao Hui Zhi Huan Wang Guanqing Jia Sha Tang Xiliu Cheng Rui Wanga Andi Xu Haigang Wang Zhijun Qiao Jun Liu Xianmin Diao Ying Gao 2023The Crop Journal2023,11,2:0
17Site Occupation of Nb in γ-TiAI:Beyond the Point Defect Gas Approximation显示文摘Microalloying is an effective approach to improve the mechanical properties of γ-TiAl intermetallic compound.Knowledge about the site occupancy of the ternary alloying element in the crystal lattice ofγ-TiAl is highly demanded in order to understand the physics underlying the alloying effect.Previous first-principle methods-based thermodynamic models for the determination of the site occupancy were based on the point defect gas approximation with the interaction between the point defects neglected.In the present work,we include the point defect interaction energy in the thermodynamic model,which allows us to predict the site occupancy of the ternary alloying element inγ-TiAl beyond the point defect gas approximation.The model is applied to theγ-TiAl-Nb alloy.We show that,at low temperature,the site occupancy of Nb atoms depends on the composition of the alloy:Nb atoms occupy the A1 sublattice for the Ti-rich alloy but occupy Ti sublattice for the Al-rich alloy.The fraction of Nb atoms occupying A1 sublattice in the Ti-rich alloy decreases drastically,whereas the fraction of Nb atoms on the Ti sublattice in the Al-rich alloy decreases slightly with increasing temperature.At high temperature,Nb atoms occupy dominantly the Ti sublattice for both the Ti-rich and Al-rich alloys.The interaction between the point defects makes the Ti sublattice more favorable for the Nb atoms to occupy.Wei Diao Li-Hua Ye Zong-Wei Ji Rui Yang Qing-Miao Hu 2019Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2019,32,12:0
