3Biodegradable magnesium barrier membrane used for guided bone regeneration in dental surgery显示文摘Barrier membranes are commonly used as part of the dental surgical technique guided bone regeneration(GBR)and are often made of resorbable collagen or non-resorbable materials such as PTFE.While collagen membranes do not provide sufficient mechanical protection of the covered bone defect,titanium reinforced membranes and non-resorbable membranes need to be removed in a second surgery.Thus,biodegradable GBR membranes made of pure magnesium might be an alternative.In this study a biodegradable pure magnesium(99.95%)membrane has been proven to have all of the necessary requirements for an optimal regenerative outcome from both a mechanical and biological perspective.After implantation,the magnesium membrane separates the regenerating bone from the overlying,faster proliferating soft tissue.During the initial healing period,the membrane maintained a barrier function and space provision,whilst retaining the positioning of the bone graft material within the defect space.As the magnesium metal corroded,it formed a salty corrosion layer and local gas cavities,both of which extended the functional lifespan of the membrane barrier capabilities.During the resorption of the magnesium metal and magnesium salts,it was observed that the membrane became surrounded and then replaced by new bone.After the membrane had completely resorbed,only healthy tissue remained.The in vivo performance study demonstrated that the magnesium membrane has a comparable healing response and tissue regeneration to that of a resorbable collagen membrane.Overall,the magnesium membrane demonstrated all of the ideal qualities for a barrier membrane used in GBR treatment.Patrick Rider Zeljka Peric Kacarevic Akiva Elad Drazen Tadic Daniel Rothamel Gerrit Sauer Fabien Bornert Peter Windisch David Botond Hangyasi Balint Molnar Emely Bortel Bernhard Hesse Frank Witte 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,8:7
4Surgical treatment of Lenke 5 adolescent idiopathic scoliosis: Comparison of anterior vs posterior approach显示文摘AIM To compare the posterior vs anterior approaches for fusion of Lenke 5 adolescent idiopathic scoliosis curves,matched for curve magnitude and for the distal level of fixation(dLOF) standardized to the third lumbar vertebrae(L3).METHODS A prospectively collected multicenter database was used for this retrospective comparative study. Our dependent variables included sagittal and coronal radiographic measurements, number of fused vertebrae, estimated blood loss, length of hospitalization and SRS total and individual domain scores at the two-year follow-up. Subject demographics were similar for all group comparisons.Independent t-test was used to compare groups for all analyses at P < 0.01.RESULTS For all matched cases of Lenke 5 curves, a selective approach was used only 50% of the time in cases undergoing a posterior fusion. When comparing a posterior selective approach to an anterior selective approach,surgeons utilizing a posterior approach fused significantly more levels than surgeons using an anterior approach with no other significant differences in radiographic or SRS outcomes(Ant = 4.8 ± 1.0 levels vs post = 6.1 ± 1.0 levels, P < 0.0001). When the dLOF was standardized to L3, the anterior approached provided significantly greater lumbar Cobb percent correction than the posterior approach(Ant = 69.1% ± 12.6% vs post =54.6% ± 16.4%, P = 0.004), with no other significant radiographic or SRS score differences between approaches.CONCLUSION Surgeons treating Lenke 5c curves with a posterior instrumentation and fusion vs an anterior approach include more motion segments, even with a selective fusion. 5The fungal UmSrt1 and maize ZmSUT1 sucrose transporters battle for plant sugar resources显示文摘The biotrophic fungus Ustilago maydis causes corn smut disease, inducing tumor formation in its host Zea mays. Upon infection, the fungal hyphae invaginate the plasma membrane of infected maize cells, establishing an interface where pathogen and host are separated only by their plasma membranes. At this interface the fungal and maize sucrose transporters, UmSrt1 and ZmSUT1, compete for extracellular sucrose in the corn smut/maize pathosystem. Here we biophysically characterized ZmSUT1 and UmSrt1 in Xenopus oocytes with respect to their voltage-,pH-and substrate-dependence and determined affinities toward protons and sucrose. In contrast to ZmSUT1,UmSrt1 has a high affinity for sucrose and is relatively pH-and voltage-independent. Using these quantitative parameters, we developed a mathematical model to simulate the competition for extracellular sucrose at the contact zone between the fungus and the host plant. This approach revealed that UmSrt1 exploits the apoplastic sucrose resource, which forces the plant transporter into a sucrose export mode providing the fungus with sugar from the phloem. Importantly, the high sucrose concentration in the phloem appeared disadvantageous for the ZmSUT1, preventing sucrose recovery from the apoplastic space in the fungus/plant interface.Anke Wittek Ingo Dreyer Khaled A.S. 9Nonlinear health evaluation for lithium-ion battery within full-lifespan显示文摘Lithium-ion batteries(LIBs), as the first choice for green batteries, have been widely used in energy storage, electric vehicles, 3C devices, and other related fields, and will have greater application prospects in the future. However, one of the obstacles hindering the future development of battery technology is how to accurately evaluate and monitor battery health, which affects the entire lifespan of battery use. It is not enough to assess battery health comprehensively through the state of health(SoH) alone, especially when nonlinear aging occurs in onboard applications. Here, for the first time, we propose a brand-new health evaluation indicator—state of nonlinear aging(SoNA) to explain the nonlinear aging phenomenon that occurs during the battery use, and also design a knee-point identification method and two SoNA quantitative methods. We apply our health evaluation indicator to build a complete LIB full-lifespan grading evaluation system and a ground-to-cloud service framework, which integrates multi-scenario data collection, multi-dimensional data-based grading evaluation, and cloud management functions. Our works fill the gap in the LIBs’ health evaluation of nonlinear aging, which is of great significance for the health and safety evaluation of LIBs in the field of echelon utilization such as vehicles and energy storage. 12Gastric intestinal metaplasia is associated with gastric dysplasia but is inversely correlated with esophageal dysplasia显示文摘AIM To determine which clinical factors might be associated with gastric intestinal metaplasia(IM) in a North American population.METHODS Pathology and endoscopy databases at an academicmedical center were reviewed to identify patients with and without gastric IM on biopsies for a retrospective cohort study. Patient demographics, insurance status, and other clinical factors were reviewed.RESULTS Four hundred and sixty-eight patients with gastric IM(mean age: 61.0 years ± 14.4 years, 55.5% female) and 171 without gastric IM(mean age: 48.8 years ± 20.8 years, 55.0% female) were compared. The endoscopic appearance of atrophic gastritis correlated with finding gastric IM on histopathology(OR = 2.05, P = 0.051). Gastric IM was associated with histologic findings of chronic gastritis(OR = 2.56, P < 0.001), gastric ulcer(OR = 6.97, P = 0.015), gastric dysplasia(OR = 6.11, P = 0.038), and gastric cancer(OR = 6.53, P = 0.027). Histologic findings of Barrett's esophagus(OR = 0.28, P = 0.003) and esophageal dysplasia(OR = 0.11, P = 0.014) were inversely associated with gastric IM. Tobacco use(OR = 1.73, P = 0.005) was associated with gastric IM.CONCLUSION Patients who smoke or have the endoscopic finding of atrophic gastritis are more likely to have gastric IM and should have screening gastric biopsies during esophagogastroduodenoscopy(EGD). 14Dietary copper triggers onset of fulminant hepatitis in the Long-Evans cinnamon rat model显示文摘AIM:To investigate the impact of dietary copper given at different time points on the onset of fulminant hepatitis. METHODS:The Long-Evans cinnamon (LEC) rat model of Wilson's disease (WD) was used to study the impact of high dietary copper (hCu) on the induction of fulminant hepatitis at early or late time points of life. High Cu diet was started in rat pups or in adults (month 5) for three months. Animals that received reduced dietary copper (rCu) throughout their lifetime served as a control. Hepatitis-associated serum markers (alanine aminotransferase, aspartate transaminase, bilirubin) were analyzed in animal groups receiving hCu or rCu. Liver copper content and liver histology were revealed at sacrifice. A set of 5 marker genes previously found to be affected in injured liver and which are related to angiogenesis (Vegfa), fat metabolism (Srebf1), ex-tracellular matrix (Timp1), oxidative stress (Hmox1), and the cell cycle (Cdkn1a) were analyzed by real-time polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS:Regardless of the time point when hCu was started, LEC rats (35/36) developed fulminant hepatitis and died. Animals receiving rCu (36/36) remained healthy, did not develop hepatitis, and survived long term without symptoms of overt disease, although liver copper accumulated in adult animals (477 ± 75 μg/g). With regard to start of hCu, onset of fulminant hepatitis was significantly (P < 0.001) earlier in adults (35 ± 9 d) that showed pre-accumulation of liver copper as compared to the pup group (77 ± 15 d). Hepatitis-associated serum markers, liver copper and liver histology, as well as gene expression, were affected in LEC rats receiving hCu. However, except for early and rapid onset of hepatitis, biochemical and molecular markers were similar at the early and late time points of disease. 15Biliary phosphatidylcholine and lysophosphatidylcholine profiles in sclerosing cholangitis显示文摘AIM:To analyze phospholipid profiles in intrahepatic bile from patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis(PSC)and secondary sclerosing cholangitis(SSC).METHODS:Intrahepatic bile specimens collected via endoscopic retrograde cholangiography from 41 patients were analyzed.Fourteen of these patients were diagnosed with PSC,10 with SSC,11 with choledocholithiasis or no identifiable biliary disease,and 6 with cholangiocellular carcinoma(CCC).Bile acid,cholesterol,protein,and bilirubin contents as well as pancreas lipase activity in bile were determined by biochemical methods.Phosphatidylcholine(PC)and lysophosphatidylcholine(LPC)species were quantified using nanoelectrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry.RESULTS:Bile from all the examined patient groups showed a remarkably similar PC and LPC species composition,with only minor statistical differences.Total biliary PC concentrations were highest in controls(8030±1843 mol/L)and lowest in patients with CCC(1969±981 mol/L)(P=0.005,controls vs SSC and CCC,respectively,P<0.05).LPC contents in bile were overall low(4.2%±1.8%).Biliary LPC/PC ratios and ratios of biliary PC to bilirubin,PC to cholesterol,PC to protein,and PC to bile acids showed no intergroup differences.CONCLUSION:PC and LPC profiles being similar in patients with or without sclerosing cholangitis,these phospholipids are likely not of major pathogenetic importance in this disease group.Annika Gauss Robert Ehehalt Wolf-Dieter Lehmann Gerhard Erben Karl-Heinz Weiss Yvonne Schaefer Petra Kloeters-Plachky Adolf Stiehl Wolfgang Stremmel Peter Sauer Daniel Nils Gotthardt 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,33:3

20Surface structuring of case hardened chain pins by cold-sprayed microparticles to modify friction and wear properties显示文摘This paper presents the results of the application of a cold spray technique for structuring metallic surfaces with microparticles.The resulting changes in surface properties were characterized to observe their influences on the tribological behavior of the structured surface.The spray technique was applied to a technical component,a 16MnCr5 steel chain pin,designed to be mounted in a linear reciprocating tribometer.TiO_2 microparticles were used to structure the surface with a homogeneous distribution of singly dispersed particles,rather than a homogeneous closed coating on the surface.Tribometer tests were performed to directly compare structured and unstructured chain pins,and a significantly reduced sliding friction coefficient was observed for the structured pin.The pins were characterized in detail by surface analysis prior to and after application of the tribological load to set the surface parameters and surface chemistry,even on the microscale.It was confirmed that the particle structuring induced changes in the surface properties,and the durability of the changes after tribological loading was evaluated.S.
