| 2 | Experimental investigation on flow asymmetry in solid entrance region of a square circulating fluidized bed显示文摘To study the influence of back feeding particles on gas-solid flow in the riser, this paper investigated the flow asymmetry in the solid entrance region of a fluidized bed by particle concentration/velocity measurements in a cold square circulating fluidized beds (CFB). The pressure drop distribution along the riser and the saturation carrying capacity of gas for Geldart-B type particles were first analyzed. Under the condition of u0=4 m/s and Gs=21 kg/(m2 s), the back feeding particles were found to penetrate the lean gas-solid flow near the entrance (rear) wall before reaching the opposite (front) wall, thus leading to a relatively denser region near the front wall in the bottom bed. Higher solid circulation rate (u0=4 m/s, Gs=33 kg/(m2 s)) resulted in a higher particle concentration in the riser. However the back feeding particles with higher momentum increased the asymmetry of the particle concentration/velocity profile in the solid entrance region. Lower air velocity (u0=3.2 m/s) and Gs=21 kg/(m2 s), beyond the saturation carrying capacity of gas, induced an S-shaped axial solid distribution with a denser bottom zone. This limited the penetration of the back feeding particles and forced the fluidizing air to flow in the central region, thus leading to a higher solid holdup near the rear wall. | 3 | Conceptual Metaphor and Literary Discourse:A Study of the Implicit Conceptual Metaphor in Somerset Maugham's Rain显示文摘This paper looks into the implicit conceptual metaphor in the short story Rain by Somerset Maugham from a cognitive-functional perspective. The word 'rain',with its unusual frequency of occurrence and used in a less common clause structure in the discourse,is obviously foregrounded. But rain is not what the story is about,it is about the protagonist,a missionary,Davidson by name and his relationship with a woman named Thompson. Rain is used symbolically as the source domain,but where is the target domain? The recurrence of 'the rain',which forms a metaphoric chain,moves the narrative through its entire structure,beginning with Orientation,through 11 phases in Complication Actions until it reaches Resolution,which takes the form of Davidson's suicide. The ending comes as a surprise to the reader and forces him to look back and re-contextualize the story on the basis of a series of counter-expectancies and linguistic expressions so that he finds the relationship between Davidson and Thompson was not one between a preacher and a sinner,but one between a man and a woman. Linguistic analysis and cognitive analysis bring to light the fact that what made Davidson behave the way he did was not only his religious fanaticism but,more decisively,also his inner urge or desire,which turns out to be the target domain. The fascinating role metaphor and metonymy play in the unfolding of discourse makes it possible to establish the cross-domain mapping of knowledge about rain onto knowledge about desire,so the dominant conceptual metaphor,Desire Is Rain,finally takes shape. This is how the discourse realizes the conceptual metaphor. As the metaphor is implicit,it takes a lot of inferencing to see how the discourse realizes it as it unfolds,and how the metaphor shapes the meaning of the discourse as it gradually emerges. Results show that merely reducing the imaginary circle diameter rki can not significantly reduce the rotatiollal diameter op in the range considered. The flow still rotates coullter-clockwise stably and does not change rotation direction when the direction of all jet axes are defiected suddenly to the opposite rotation direction by up to 5.4' in a countereclockwise llow field. It is the first time that the numerical sAnulation results were obtained which agreed quite well with this experimental phenomena qualitatively. The experimental data, i.e., the rotational diameter & and the maximum velocity on the syrnmetric central line of fUrnace Vm, are only a bit larger than the simulation results. It is shown that the initial flow field has an important influence on the aerodynamic field in the furnace. Other measures have to be taken as wel1 in order to reduce & to resist slagging and high temperature corrosion of furnace tubes.
