| 1 | Geochemistry of rare earth elements in the mid-late Quaternary sediments of the western Philippine Sea and their paleoenvironmental significance显示文摘Based on a δ18O chronology,rare earth elements(REE) and other typical elements in sediments from core MD06-3047 in the western Philippine Sea were analyzed to constrain the provenances of the sediments and investigate quantitative changes in the Asian eolian input to the study area over the last 700 ka.Among the competing processes that might affect REE compositions,sediment provenance is the most important one.Provenance analysis suggests that the study sediments have two provenance end-members;local volcanic sources are dominant,and eolian dust from the Asian continent has a smaller contribution.During glacial periods,eolian input to the western Philippine Sea was enhanced.In contrast,material supply from local volcanics increased during interglacial periods.Changes in eolian input to the study area were probably related to the strength of the East Asian winter monsoon(EAWM) as well as aridity in the Asian continent on an orbital time scale,and were partly influenced by local control factors on shorter time scales.Therefore,we propose that the present study expands the application of the REE-based method for quantitatively estimating the eolian component from the mid-latitude northern Pacific to the low-latitude western Pacific.Additionally,the study preliminarily confirms the influence of EAWM-transported eolian material on sedimentation in the western Philippine Sea since 700 ka. | XU ZhaoKai LI TieGang WAN ShiMing YIN XueBo JIANG FuQing SUN HanJie JinYong CHOI DhongIl LIM | 2014 | Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,4: | 10 |

| 3 | Investigation of potential interferences on the measurement of dissolved reactive phosphate using zirconium oxide-based DGT technique显示文摘A diffusive gradients in thin films (DGT) technique based on hydrous zirconium oxide (Zr-oxide) has been recently developed for the measurement of dissolved reactive phosphate (DRP). In this study, the detailed performance of the DGT technique is reported. Spiking experiments revealed that several orthophosphate monoester compounds contributed to the Zr-oxide DGT measurements of DRP. However, such a phenomenon is unlikely to occur during field conditions due to the low concentration of organic P in typical natural waters. The presence of Cl- (up to 106 g/L), SO42- (up to 16 g/L), HCO3- (up to 817 g/L), and AsO2- and AsO 3 4 (both up to 1 mg As/L) in solutions had negligible effects on the measurement of DRP. The threshold concentrations of Cl-, SO42- and HCO3- have been increased from previous reports for the measurements of DRP using other adsorbent-based DGT techniques. The capacity for DGT measurements of DRP decreased with increasing solution pH (4.2-9.2). The lowest capacity (95 μg P/m2 at pH 9.2) was still greater than that of other DGT techniques that are usually used for the measurement of DRP (2-12 μg P/cm2 ). The Zr-oxide binding gel could be stored for up to 2 years without any aging effect. This period of validity was considerably longer than the ferrihydrite binding gel that is commonly used in present DGT devices (6 months). | 4 | Hearing analysis in heterozygous and homozygous klotho gene deficient mice显示文摘Objective: To understand the crucial role of the klotho gene in hearing development in mouse models.Methods: PCR was used to identify CBA mice with different genotypes, i.e. WT, heterozygous(klotho +/-)or homozygous(klotho-/-). Mice phenotype and weight were recorded postnatal 25 days(P-25) and auditory brainstem responses(ABR) were used to determine auditory function at P-60.Results: klotho-/-mice tended to have smaller size, lighter weight and higher ABR thresholds at P-60,showing early onset age-related hearing loss(ARHL).Conclusion: Heterozygous and homozygous klotho deficient mice exhibit different degrees of hearing loss at young age, with homozygous mice(klotho-/-) showing more severe hearing loss. | 5 | LOWER DOSE OF AMINOGLYCOSIDE OTOTOXIC EXPOSURE CAUSES PRESYNAPTIC ALTERATIONS ASSOICATED WITH HEARING LOSS显示文摘Objective To study presynaptic alternations of cochlear ribbons arising from aminoglycoside ototoxic stimuli in C57BL/6J mice. Methods Animals were injected with low dose gentamicin(100 mg/kg/day) for14 days, From the 14 th to 28 th days, the mice were maintained free of gentamicin treatment. Immunohistochemistry labeling was employed to trace RIBEYE, a major presynaptic componment of ribbon synapses.RIBEYE/CtBP2 expression levels were assessed and compared with hearing threshold shifts. Auditory function was assessed by auditory brainstem responses. The stereocilia of outer hair cells(OHCs) and IHCs was examined by scanning electron microscopy(SEM). Results Hearing thresholds were elevated with peak hearing loss observed on the 7th day after gentamicin exposure, followed by improvement after the 7th day.RIBEYE/CtBP2 expression directly correlated with observed hearing threshold shifts. Strikingly, we did not see any obvious changes in stereocilia in both OHCs and IHCs until the 28 th day. Mild changes in stereocilia were only observed in OHCs on the 28 th day. Conclusions These findings indicate that presynapse cochlear ribbons, rather than stereocilia, may be sensitive to aminoglycoside ototoxic exposure in mice cochleae. | 6 | Olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions of COVID-19 patients in China:A multicenter study显示文摘Introduction:With the spread of the epidemic worldwide,an increasing number of doctors abroad have observed the following atypical symptoms of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19):olfactory or taste disorders.Therefore,clarifying the incidence and clinical characteristics of olfactory and taste disorders in Chinese COVID-19 patients is of great significance and urgency.Materials and Methods:A retrospective study was conducted,which included 229 severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 confirmed patients,through face-to-face interviews and telephone follow-up.Following the completion of questionnaires,the patients participating in the study,were categorized according to the degree of olfactory and taste disorders experienced,and the proportion of each clinical type of patient with olfactory and taste disorders and the time when symptoms appeared were recorded.Results:Among the 229 patients,31(13.54%)had olfactory dysfunction,and 44(19.21%)had gustatory dysfunction.For the patients with olfactory dysfunction,6(19.35%)developed severe disease and became critically ill.Olfactory dysfunction appeared before the other symptoms in 21.43%of cases.The proportion of females with olfactory and gustatory dysfunction was higher than that of males(P<0.001).Conclusions:The incidence of olfactory and gustatory dysfunction was much lower than that reported abroad;the prognosis of patients with olfactory dysfunction is relatively favorable;olfactory and gustatory dysfunction can be used as a sign for early screening;females are more prone to olfactory and gustatory dysfunction. | Jianhui Li Yi Sun Enqiang Qin Hu Yuan Mingbo Liu Wenqi Yi Zhu Chen Chengcheng Huang Fengjie Zhou Ruiyao Chen Leibo Zhang Ning Yu Qiong Liu Xuejun Zhou Jingjing He Boyu Li Fusheng Wang Changliang Yang Shiming Yang | 2022 | World Journal of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery2022,8,4: | 2 |
| 7 | Amniotic Membrane Transplantation for Conjunctival Tumor显示文摘Purpose: To evaluate the possibility of amniotic membrane transplantation (AMT) for the treatment of conjunctival tumor.Methods: Preserved AMT was performed in 26 patients (26 eyes) with conjunctival tumor, including 9 eyes (34.62%) with malignant tumor (conjunctival malignant melanoma,corneal and conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma, conjunctival lymphoma), 17 eyes(65.38%) with benign tumor(conjunctival papilloma, conjunctival dermoid tumor, conjunctival nevus, hemangioma etc.).Result: All the patients are followed up for 1 ~53 months. No acute rejection was observed after preserved AMT. Ideal healing was found in conjunctiva wound.Conclusion: Preserved AMT is a very effective method to repair wound after giant conjunctival tumor operation. | 15 | Ultrathin-shell epitaxial Ag@Au core-shell nanowires for high-performance and chemically-stable electronic, optical, and mechanical devices显示文摘Silver nanowires (AgNWs) hold great promise for applications in wearable electronics, flexible solar cells, chemical and biological sensors, photonic/plasmonic circuits, and scanning probe microscopy (SPM) due to their unique plasmonic, mechanical, and electronic properties. However, the lifetime, reliability, and operating conditions of AgNW-based devices are significantly restricted by their poor chemical stability, limiting their commercial potentials. Therefore, it is crucial to create a reliable oxidation barrier on AgNWs that provides long-term chemical stability to various optical, electrical, and mechanical devices while maintaining their high performance. Here we report a room-temperature solution-phase approach to grow an ultra-thin, epitaxial gold coating on AgNWs to effectively shield the Ag surface from environmental oxidation. The Ag@Au core-shell nanowires (Ag@Au NWs) remain stable in air for over six months, under elevated temperature and humidity (80 °C and 100% humidity) for twelve weeks, in physiological buffer solutions for three weeks, and can survive overnight treatment of an oxidative solution (2% H2O2). The Ag@Au core-shell NWs demonstrated comparable performance as pristine AgNWs in various electronic, optical, and mechanical devices, such as transparent mesh electrodes, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrates, plasmonic waveguides, plasmonic nanofocusing probes, and high-aspect-ratio, high-resolution atomic force microscopy (AFM) probes. Surface models include point clouds,meshes and textured models. Previous work mainly focused on the encryption of solid models, point clouds and meshes. This work focuses on the most complicated 3 D textured model. We propose a 3 D Lu chaotic mapping based encryption method for 3 D textured models. We encrypt the vertices, polygons, and textures of3 D models separately using the 3 D Lu chaotic mapping. Then the encrypted vertices, polygons and textures are composited together to form the final encrypted 3 D textured model. The experimental results reveal that our method can encrypt and decrypt 3 D textured models correctly. | 18 | Variability of Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation in FGOALS-g2显示文摘The variability of Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation(AMOC) in the pre-industrial control experiment of the Flexible Global Ocean–Atmosphere–Land System model, Grid-point Version 2(FGOALS-g2) was investigated using the model outputs with the most stable state in a 512-yr time window from the total 1500-yr period of the experiment. The period of AMOC in FGOALS-g2 is double peaked at 20 and 32 years according to the power spectrum, and 22 years according to an auto-correlation analysis, which shows very obvious decadal variability. Like many other coupled climate models, the decadal variability of AMOC in FGOALS-g2 is closely related to the convection that occurs in the Labrador Sea region. Deep convection in the Labrador Sea in FGOALS-g2 leads the AMOC maximum by 3–4 years. The contributions of thermal and haline effects to the variability of the convection in three different regions [the Labrador, Irminger and Greenland–Iceland– Norwegian(GIN) Seas] were analyzed for FGOALS-g2. The variability of convection in the Labrador and Irminger Seas is thermally dominant, while that in the colder GIN Seas can be mainly attributed to salinity changes due to the lower thermal expansion.
