| 2 | The HuangZaoSi Maize Genome Provides Insights into Genomic Variation and Improvement History of Maize显示文摘Maize is a globally important crop that was a classic model plant for genetic studies. Here, we report a 2.2 Gb draft genome sequence of an elite maize line, HuangZaoSi (HZS). Hybrids bred from HZS-improved lines (HILs) are planted in more than 60% of maize fields in China. Proteome clustering of six completed sequeneed maize genomes show that 638 proteins fall into 264 HZS-specific gene families with the majority of contributions from tandem duplication events. Resequencing and comparative analysis of 40 HZSrelated lines reveals the breeding history of HILs. More than 60% of identified selective sweeps were clustered in identity.by.descent conserved regions, and yield-related genes/QTLs were enriched in HZS characteristic selected regions. Furthermore, we dem on strated that HZS-specific family genes were not uniformly distributed in the genome but enriched in improvement/function.related genomic regions. | 4 | Effects of different mixing ratios on emissions from passenger cars fueled with methanol/gasoline blends显示文摘Regulated and unregulated emissions from four passenger cars fueled with methanol/gasoline blends at different mixing ratios (M15,M20,M30,M50,M85 and M100) were tested over the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC).Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were sampled by Tenax TA and analyzed by thermal desorption-gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer (TD-GC/MS).Carbonyls were trapped on dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNPH) cartridges and analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).The results showed that total emissions of VOCs and BTEX (benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene,p,m,o-xylene) from all vehicles fueled with methanol/gasoline blends were lower than those from vehicles fueled with only gasoline.Compared to the baseline,the use of M85 decreased BTEX emissions by 97.4%,while the use of M15 decreased it by 19.7%.At low-to-middle mixing ratios (M15,M20,M30 and M50),formaldehyde emissions showed a slight increase while those of high mixing ratios (M85 and M100) were three times compared with the baseline gasoline only.When the vehicles were retrofitted with new three-way catalytic converters (TWC),emissions of carbon monoxide (CO),total hydrocarbon (THC),and nitrogen oxides (NOx) were decreased by 24%-50%,10%-35%,and 24%-58% respectively,compared with the cars using the original equipment manufacture (OEM) TWC.Using the new TWC,emissions of formaldehyde and BTEX were decreased,while those of other carbonyl increased.It is necessary that vehicles fueled with methanol/gasoline blends be retrofitted with a new TWC.In addition,the specific reactivity of emissions of vehicles fueled with M15 and retrofitted with the new TWC was reduced from 4.51 to 4.08 compared to the baseline vehicle.This indicates that the use of methanol/gasoline blend at a low mixing ratio may have lower effect on environment than gasoline. | Hong Zhao Yunshan Ge Jianwei Tan Hang Yin Jiadong Guo Wei Zhao Peipei Dai | 2011 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,11: | 12 |
| 5 | Ultrafast hydrogen bond dynamics of liquid water revealed by terahertz-induced transient birefringence显示文摘The fundamental properties of water molecules,such as their molecular polarizability,have not yet been clarified.The hydrogen bond network is generally considered to play an important role in the thermodynamic properties of water.The terahertz(THz)Kerr effect technique,as a novel tool,is expected to be useful in exploring the low-frequency molecular dynamics of liquid water.Here,we use an intense and ultrabroadband THz pulse(peak electric field strength of 14.9 MV/cm,centre frequency of 3.9 THz,and bandwidth of 1–10 THz)to resonantly excite intermolecular modes of liquid water.Bipolar THz field-induced transient birefringence signals are observed in a free-flowing water film.We propose a hydrogen bond harmonic oscillator model associated with the dielectric susceptibility and combine it with the Lorentz dynamic equation to investigate the intermolecular structure and dynamics of liquid water.We mainly decompose the bipolar signals into a positive signal caused by hydrogen bond stretching vibration and a negative signal caused by hydrogen bond bending vibration,indicating that the polarizability perturbation of water presents competing contributions under bending and stretching conditions.A Kerr coefficient equation related to the intermolecular modes of water is established.The ultrafast intermolecular hydrogen bond dynamics of water revealed by an ultrabroadband THz pump pulse can provide further insights into the transient structure of liquid water corresponding to the pertinent modes. | Hang Zhao Yong Tan Liangliang Zhang Rui Zhang Mostafa Shalaby Cunlin Zhang Yuejin Zhao Xi-Cheng Zhang | 2020 | Light(Science & Applications)2020,9,1: | 10 |
| 6 | A telomere-to-telomere gap-free reference genome of watermelon and its mutation library provide important resources for gene discovery and breeding显示文摘Watermelon,Citrullus lanatus,is the world's third largest fruit crop.Reference genomes with gaps and a narrow genetic base hinder functional genomics and genetic improvement of watermelon.Here,we report the assembly of a telomere-to-telomere gap-free genome of the elite watermelon inbred line G42 by incorporating high-coverage and accurate long-read sequencing data with multiple assembly strategies.All 11 chromosomes have been assembled into single-contig pseudomolecules without gaps,representing the highest completeness and assembly quality to date.The G42 reference genome is 369321829 bp in length and contains 24205 predicted protein-coding genes,with all 22 telomeres and 11 centromeres characterized.Furthermore,we established a pollen-EMS mutagenesis protocol and obtained over 200000M1 seeds from G42.In a sampling pool,48 monogenic phenotypic mutations,selected from 223M1and 78 M2 mutants with morphological changes,were confirmed.The average mutation density was 1 SNP/1.69Mband1 indel/4.55 Mb per M1 plant and 1SNP/1.08Mb and 1 indel/6.25 Mb per M2 plant.Taking advantage of the gap-free G42 genome,8039 mutations from 32 plants sampled from M1 and M2 families were identified with 100%accuracy,whereas only 25% of the randomly selected mutations identified using the 97103v2 reference genome could be confirmed.Using this library and the gap-free genome,two genes responsible for elongated fruit shape and male sterility(CiMs1)were identified,both caused by a single basechange from G to A.The validated gap-free genome and its EMS mutation library provide invaluable resources for functional genomics and genetic improvement of watermelon. | Yun Deng Shoucheng Liu Yilin Zhang Jingsheng Tan Xiaopeng Li Xiao Chu Binghua Xu Yao Tian Yudong Sun Bosheng Li YunbiXu Xing Wang Deng Hang He Xingping Zhang | 2022 | Molecular Plant2022,15,8: | 9 |
| 7 | Asynchronous Brain-Computer Interface Shared Control of Robotic Grasping显示文摘The control of a high Degree of Freedom(DoF) robot to grasp a target in three-dimensional space using Brain-Computer Interface(BCI) remains a very difficult problem to solve. Design of synchronous BCI requires the user perform the brain activity task all the time according to the predefined paradigm; such a process is boring and fatiguing. Furthermore, the strategy of switching between robotic auto-control and BCI control is not very reliable because the accuracy of Motor Imagery(MI) pattern recognition rarely reaches 100%. In this paper, an asynchronous BCI shared control method is proposed for the high DoF robotic grasping task. The proposed method combines BCI control and automatic robotic control to simultaneously consider the robotic vision feedback and revise the unreasonable control commands. The user can easily mentally control the system and is only required to intervene and send brain commands to the automatic control system at the appropriate time according to the experience of the user. | 8 | Genome-wide variants of Eurasian facial shape differentiation and a prospective model of DNA based face prediction显示文摘It is a long-standing question as to which genes define the characteristic facial features among different ethnic groups. In this study, we use Uyghurs, an ancient admixed population to query the genetic bases why Europeans and Han Chinese look different. Facial traits were analyzed based on high-dense 3D facial images; numerous biometric spaces were examined for divergent facial features between European and Han Chinese, ranging from inter-landmark distances to dense shape geometrics. Genome-wide association studies(GWAS) were conducted on a discovery panel of Uyghurs. Six significant loci were identified, four of which, rs1868752, rs118078182, rs60159418 at or near UBASH3B, COL23A1, PCDH7 and rs17868256 were replicated in independent cohorts of Uyghurs or Southern Han Chinese. | 9 | The preoperative serum cystatin-C as an independent prognostic factor for survival in upper tract urothelial carcinoma显示文摘Cystatin-C(Cys-C)has been reported as a valuable prognostic biomarker in various malignancies.However,its effect on upper tract urothelial carci noma(UTUC)patie nts has not bee n investigated before.Thus,to explore the impact of Cys-C on survival outcomes in patients undergoing radical nephroureterectomy(RNU),a total of 538 patients with UTUC who underwent RNU between 2005 and 2014 in our center(West China Hospital,Chengdu,China)were included in this study.Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regressi on an a lyses were performed to assess the relationship betwee n Cys-C and survival outcomes using SPSS versi on 22.0.The cutoff value of Cys-C was set as 1.4 mg I1 using the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves and Youden index.The mean age of patients included was 66.1±11.1 years,and the media n follow-up durati on was 38(interquartile ran ge:19-56)mon ths.Overall,162(30.1%)patients had elevated Cys-C,and they were much older and had worse renal function than those with Cys-C<1.4 mg I^-1(both P<0.001).Meanwhile,Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed that the group with elevated Cys-C had worse cancer-specific survival(CSS,P=0.001),disease recurrence-free survival(RFS,P=0.003),and overall survival(OS,P<0.001).Multivariable Cox analysis suggested that the elevated Cys-C was identified as an independent prognostic predictor of CSS(hazard ratio[HR]:1.997,95%confidential interval[CI]:1.331-2.996),RFS(HR:1.429,95%CI:1.009-2.023),and OS(HR:1.989,95%CI:1.366-2.896).In conclusion,our result revealed that the elevated preoperative serum Cys-C was significantly associated with worse outcomes in UTUC patients undergoing RNU. | Ping Tan Ming Shi Jie Chen Hang Xu Nan Xie Huan Xu Yong Jiang Jian-Zhong Ai Liang-Ren Liu Lu Yang Qiang Wei | 2019 | Asian Journal of Andrology2019,21,2: | 7 |
| 10 | The biological effect of recombinant humanized collagen on damaged skin induced by UV-photoaging:An in vivo study显示文摘The application of medical devices to repair skin damage is clinically accepted and natural polymer enjoys an important role in this field,such as collagen or hyaluronic acid,etc.However,the biosafety and efficacy of these implants are still challenged.In this study,a skin damage animal model was prepared by UV-photoaging and recombinant humanized type Ⅲ collagen(rhCol Ⅲ)was applied as a bioactive material to implant in vivo to study its biological effect,comparing with saline and uncrosslinked hyaluronic acid(HA).Animal skin conditions were non-invasively and dynamically monitored during the 8 weeks experiment.Histological observation,specific gene expression and other molecular biological methods were applied by the end of the animal experiment.The results indicated that rhCol Ⅲ could alleviate the skin photoaging caused by UV radiation,including reduce the thickening of epidermis and dermis,increase the secretion of Collagen Ⅰ(Col Ⅰ)and Collagen Ⅲ(Col Ⅲ)and remodel of extracellular matrix(ECM).Although the cell-material interaction and mechanism need more investigation,the effect of rhCol Ⅲ on damaged skin was discussed from influence on cells,reconstruction of ECM,and stimulus of small biological molecules based on current results.In conclusion,our findings provided rigorous biosafety information of rhCol Ⅲ and approved its potential in skin repair and regeneration.Although enormous efforts still need to be made to achieve successful translation from bench to clinic,the recombinant humanized collagen showed superiorities from both safety and efficacy aspects. | Jing Wang He Qiu Yang Xu Yongli Gao Peijie Tan Rui Zhao Zhanhong Liu Yajun Tang Xiangdong Zhu Chongyun Bao Hang Wang Hai Lin Xingdong Zhang | 2022 | Bioactive Materials2022,7,5: | 7 |

| 13 | Modeling and predicting low-speed vehicle emissions as a function of driving kinematics显示文摘An instantaneous emission model was developed to model and predict the real driving emissions of the low-speed vehicles. The emission database used in the model was measured by using portable emission measurement system(PEMS)under actual traffic conditions in the rural area,and the characteristics of the emission data were determined in relation to the driving kinematics(speed and acceleration)of the low-speed vehicle. The input of the emission model is driving cycle,and the model requires instantaneous vehicle speed and acceleration levels as input variables and uses them to interpolate the pollutant emission rate maps to calculate the transient pollutant emission rates,which will be accumulated to calculate the total emissions released during the whole driving cycle. And the vehicle fuel consumption was determined through the carbon balance method. Most wome n with PCOS exhibit in creased luteinizing horm one (LH) levels, resulting from high-frequency gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion (Cimino et al., 2016). Pren ata I testostero ne (T) treatment in sheep results in disrupted steroid feedback on gonadotropin release, which in creases pituitary sen sitivity to GnRH and subseque ntly leads to LH hypersecretion (Sullivan and Moenter, 2004;Cardoso et al., 2016). A recent study shows that GnRHdependent LH pulsatility and secretion are elevated by anti- Mullerian hormone (AMH) in PCOS disease. The increased prenatal AMH reprograms fetus and induces PCOS in adults (Tata et al., 2018). Furthermore, the androgen receptor (AR) plays a role in hyperandrogenism and ovarian folliculoge esis in PCOS (Wang et al., 2015;Abbott, 2017). However, the disease mechanism behind PCOS remains unclear, and current management focuses on treating the symptoms but not the mechanism (Chen et al., 2016;Shi et al., 2018). The structures associated with different growth temperatures (700, 800, and 850°C) were monitored by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the result shows that the length of the nanorods increase progressively with the growth temperature increasing. X-ray diffraction (XRD) shows that the as-obtained samples can be indexed to high crystallinity with wurtzite structure. The growth of the nanostructures mainly depends on the formation of sphere-like Mg-doped Zn droplets before adding oxygen.
