1Breaches of the Baige Barrier Lake: Emergency response and dam breach flood显示文摘This paper documents the emergency response to the breaches of the Baige Barrier Lake. The lake was successively formed by landslides that occurred on October 10 and November 3, 2018 at the provincial border between Sichuan and Tibet in China. The barrier lake created by the '10.10' landslide breached on October 12 and triggered a flood with a peak discharge around 10000 m^3/s. The residual landslide barrier was enhanced by a second landslide on November 3, resulting in a higher barrier with larger flood potential. An overflow channel was excavated in the crest of the barrier to prompt the breach to be triggered at a lower water level. The second breach happened on November 12 with a measured peak discharge of 31000 m^3/s. Nearly 75000 people were evacuated before the two breaches. In order to prevent the downstream dams from possible over-topping, nearly 3.27×10~8 m^3 of the stored volume was released from the Liyuan reservoir 688 km downstream of Baige Barrier Lake. This paper presents the measured hydrographs and the back-analysis results for the '11.03' barrier lake. It is shown that the modern models of dam breach hydraulics can reasonably reproduce the barrier breach hydrographs;however, further studies are needed to define the key parameters which highly influence the calculated results. 2Air route network optimization in fragmented airspace based on cellular automata显示文摘Air route network optimization,one of the essential parts of the airspace planning,is an effective way to optimize airspace resources,increase airspace capacity,and alleviate air traffic congestion.However,little has been done on the optimization of air route network in the fragmented airspace caused by prohibited,restricted,and dangerous areas(PRDs).In this paper,an air route network optimization model is developed with the total operational cost as the objective function while airspace restriction,air route network capacity,and non-straight-line factors(NSLF) are taken as major constraints.A square grid cellular space,Moore neighbors,a fixed boundary,together with a set of rules for solving the route network optimization model are designed based on cellular automata.The empirical traffic of airports with the largest traffic volume in each of the 9 flight information regions in China's Mainland is collected as the origin-destination(OD) airport pair demands.Based on traffic patterns,the model generates 35 air routes which successfully avoids 144 PRDs.Compared with the current air route network structure,the number of nodes decreases by 41.67%,while the total length of flight segments and air routes drop by 32.03% and 5.82% respectively.The NSLF decreases by 5.82% with changes in the total length of the air route network.More importantly,the total operational cost of the whole network decreases by 6.22%.The computational results show the potential benefits of the model and the advantage of the algorithm.Optimization of air route network can significantly reduce operational cost while ensuring operation safety.Shijin WANG Xi CAO Haiyun LI Qingyun LI Xu HANG Yanjun WANG 2017Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2017,30,3:16
3Drug resistance and combating drug resistance in cancer显示文摘Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the US.Current major treatments for cancer management include surgery,cytotoxic chemotherapy,targeted therapy,radiation therapy,endocrine therapy and immunotherapy.Despite the endeavors and achievements made in treating cancers during the past decades,resistance to classical chemotherapeutic agents and/or novel targeted drugs continues to be a major problem in cancer therapies.Drug resistance,either existing before treatment(intrinsic)or generated after therapy(acquired),is responsible for most relapses of cancer,one of the major causes of death of the disease.Heterogeneity among patients and tumors,and the versatility of cancer to circumvent therapies make drug resistance more challenging to deal with.Better understanding the mechanisms of drug resistance is required to provide guidance to future cancer treatment and achieve better outcomes.In this review,intrinsic and acquired resistance will be discussed.In addition,new discoveries in mechanisms of drug resistance will be reviewed.Particularly,we will highlight roles of ATP in drug resistance by discussing recent findings of exceptionally high levels of intratumoral extracellular ATP as well as intracellular ATP internalized from extracellular environment.The complexity of drug resistance development suggests that combinational and personalized therapies,which should take ATP into consideration,might provide better strategies and improved efficacy for fighting drug resistance in cancer.Xuan Wang Haiyun Zhang Xiaozhuo Chen 2019Cancer Drug Resistance2019,2,2:12
4Optimization of Air Route Network Nodes to Avoid ″Three Areas″ Based on An Adaptive Ant Colony Algorithm显示文摘Air route network(ARN)planning is an efficient way to alleviate civil aviation flight delays caused by increasing development and pressure for safe operation.Here,the ARN shortest path was taken as the objective function,and an air route network node(ARNN)optimization model was developed to circumvent the restrictions imposed by″three areas″,also known as prohibited areas,restricted areas,and dangerous areas(PRDs),by creating agrid environment.And finally the objective function was solved by means of an adaptive ant colony algorithm(AACA).The A593,A470,B221,and G204 air routes in the busy ZSHA flight information region,where the airspace includes areas with different levels of PRDs,were taken as an example.Based on current flight patterns,a layout optimization of the ARNN was computed using this model and algorithm and successfully avoided PRDs.The optimized result reduced the total length of routes by 2.14% and the total cost by 9.875%.Wang Shijin Li Qingyun Cao Xi Li Haiyun 2016Transactions of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics2016,33,4:8
5At FH16, an Arabidopsis Type II Formin, Binds and Bundles both Microflaments and Microtubules, and Preferentially Binds to Microtubules显示文摘Formins are well-known regulators that participate in the organization of the actin cytoskeleton in organisms.The Arabidopsis thaliana L.genome encodes 21 formins,which can be divided into two distinct subfamilies.However,type II formins have to date been less well characterized.Here,we cloned a type II formin,AtFH16,and characterized its biochemical activities on actin and microtubule dynamics.The results show that the FH1FH2 structure of AtFH16 cannot nucleate actin polymerization effciently,but can bind and bundle microflaments.AtFH16 FH1FH2 is also able to bind and bundle microtubules,and preferentially binds microtubules over microflaments in vitro.In addition,AtFH16 FH1FH2 co-localizes with microtubules in onion epidermal cells,indicating a higher binding affnity of AtFH16 FH1FH2 for microtubules rather than microflaments in vivo.In conclusion,AtFH16 is able to interact with both microflaments and microtubules,suggesting that AtFH16 probably functions as a bifunctional protein,and may thus participate in plant cellular processes.Jiaojiao Wang Yi Zhang Jing Wu Lei Meng Haiyun Ren 2013Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2013,55,11:7
6Hunt for the tipping point during endocrine resistance process in breast cancer by dynamic network biomarkers显示文摘Acquired drug resistance is the major reason why patients fail to respond to cancer therapies.It is a challenging task to deter.mine the tipping point of endocrine resistance and detect the associated molecules.Derived from new systems biology theory, the dynamic network biomarker (DNB) method is designed to quantitatively identify the tipping point of a drastic system transition and can theoretically identify DNB genes that play key roles in acquiring drug resistance.We analyzed time-course mRNA sequence data generated from the tamoxifen-treated estrogen receptor (ER)-positive MCF-7 cell line, and identified the tipping point of endocrine resistance with its leading molecules.The results show that there is interplay between gene mutations and DNB genes, in which the accumulated mutations eventually affect the DNB genes that subsequently cause the change of transcriptional landscape, enabling full-blown drug resistance. 7The effect of aneurismal-wall mechanical properties on patient-specific hemodynamic simulations:two clinical case reports显示文摘Hemodynamic factors such as the wall shearstress play an important role in the pathogenesis and treatmentof cerebral aneurysms. In present study, we apply computationalfluid-structure interaction analyses on cerebralaneurysms with two different constitutive relations for aneur-ismalwall in order to investigate the effect of the aneur-ismal wall mechanical properties on the simulation results.We carry out these analyses by using two patient-specificmodels of cerebral aneurysms of different sizes located indifferent branches of the circle of Willis. The models areconstructed from 3D rotational angiography image data andblood flow dynamics is studied under physiologically representativewaveform of inflow. From the patient models analyzedin this investigation, we find that the deformations ofcerebral aneurysms are very small. But due to the nonlinearcharacter of the Navier-Stokes equations, these smalldeformations could have significant influences on the flowcharacteristics. In addition, we find that the aneurismal-wallmechanical properties have great effects on the deformationdistribution of the aneurysm, which also affects the wall shearstress distribution and flow patterns. 8Adsorption behavior of ammonium by a bioadsorbent-Boston ivy leaf powder显示文摘The adsorption behaviors of ammonium ions from aqueous solution by a novel bioadsorbent,the Boston ivy(Parthenocissus tricuspidata) leaf powder(BPTL) were investigated.The SEM images and FT-IR spectra were used to characterize BPTL.The mathematical models were used to analyze the adsorption kinetics and isotherms.The optimum pH range for ammonium adsorption by BPTL was found to be 5-10.The adsorption reached equilibrium at 14 hr,and the kinetic data were well fitted by the Logistic model.The intraparticle diflusion was the main rate-controlling step of the adsorption process.The high temperature was favorable to the ammonium adsorption by BPTL,indicating that the adsorption was endothermic.The adsorption equilibrium fitted well to both the Langmuir model and Freundlich model,and the maximum monolayer adsorption capacities calculated from Langmuir model were 3.37,5.28 and 6.59 mg N/g at 15,25 and 35°C,respectively,which were comparable to those by reported minerals.Both the separation factor(RL) from the Langmuir model and Freundlich exponent(n) suggested that the ammonium adsorption by BPTL was favorable. 9Topic Detection Based on Weak Tie Analysis: A Case Study of LIS Research显示文摘Purpose: Based on the weak tie theory, this paper proposes a series of connection indicators Acof weak tie subnets and weak tie nodes to detect research topics, recognize their connections, and understand their evolution.Design/methodology/approach: First, keywords are extracted from article titles and preprocessed. Second, high-frequency keywords are selected to generate weak tie co-occurrence networks. By removing the internal lines of clustered sub-topic networks, we focus on the analysis of weak tie subnets' composition and functions and the weak tie nodes' roles.Findings: The research topics' clusters and themes changed yearly; the subnets clustered with technique-related and methodology-related topics have been the core, important subnets for years; while close subnets are highly independent, research topics are generally concentrated and most topics are application-related; the roles and functions of nodes and weak ties are diversified.Research limitations: The parameter values are somewhat inconsistent; the weak tie subnets and nodes are classified based on empirical observations, and the conclusions are not verified or compared to other methods.Practical implications: The research is valuable for detecting important research topics as well as their roles, interrelations, and evolution trends. Originality/value: To contribute to the strength of weak tie theory, the research translates weak and strong ties concepts to co-occurrence strength, and analyzes weak ties' functions. 14A Study of Methods to Identify Industry-University-Research Institution Cooperation Partners based on Innovation Chain Theory显示文摘Purpose: This study aims at identifying potential industry-university-research collaboration(IURC) partners effectively and analyzes the conditions and dynamics in the IURC process based on innovation chain theory.Design/methodology/approach: The method utilizes multisource data, combining bibliometric and econometrics analyses to capture the core network of the existing collaboration networks and institution competitiveness in the innovation chain. Furthermore, a new identification method is constructed that takes into account the law of scientific research cooperation and economic factors.Findings: Empirical analysis of the genetic engineering vaccine field shows that through the distribution characteristics of creative technologies from different institutions, the analysis based on the innovation chain can identify the more complementary capacities among organizations.Research limitations: In this study, the overall approach is shaped by the theoretical concept of an innovation chain, a linear innovation model with specific types or stages of innovation activities in each phase of the chain, and may, thus, overlook important feedback mechanisms in the innovation process.Practical implications: Industry-university-research institution collaborations are extremely important in promoting the dissemination of innovative knowledge, enhancing the quality of innovation products, and facilitating the transformation of scientific achievements.Originality/value: Compared to previous studies, this study emulates the real conditions of IURC. 15Synergistic Corrosion Inhibition Effect of Molybdate and Phosphate Ions for Anodic Oxidation Film Formed on 2024 Aluminum Alloy显示文摘In order to effectively improve the corrosion resistance of aluminum alloys, anodic oxidation technique was used to generate the oxide film. We investigated the influences of two inorganic corrosion inhibitors(ammonium dihydrogen phosphate and sodium molybdate) on the corrosion resistance of anodic oxidation films on 2024 aluminum alloy, and studied the synergistic effect of two corrosion inhibitors. The corrosion resistance of anodic oxidation film in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution was evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization curves. Results show that, after adding the single ammonium dihydrogen phosphate or sodium molybdate of 0.01 M to oxalic acid electrolyte, inhibition efficiencies of the anodized samples are 10% and 47%, respectively. However, in the presence of two inhibitors with the same concentration of 0.01 M, inhibition efficiency can be as high as 92%. 16Locomotor activity and anxiety status, but not spatial working memory,are affected in mice after brief exposure to cuprizone显示文摘Chronic long-term exposure to cuprizone causes severe brain demyelination in mice,which leads to changes in locomotion,working memory and anxiety.These findings suggest the importance of intact myelin for these behaviors.This study aimed to investigate the possible behavioral changes in mice with mild oligodendrocyte/myelin damage that parallels the white matter changes seen in the brains of patients with psychiatric disporders.We used the cuprizonetreated mouse model to test both tissue changes and behavioral functions(locomotor activity,anxiety status,and spatial working memory).The results showed that mice given cuprizone in their diet for 7 days had no significant myelin breakdown as evaluated by immunohistochemical staining for myelin basic protein,while the number of mature oligodendrocytes was reduced.The number and length of Caspr protein clusters,a structural marker of the node of Ranvier,did not change.The locomotor activity of the cuprizonetreated mice increased whereas their anxiety levels were lower than in normal controls;spatial working memory,however,did not change.These results,for the first time,link emotion-related behavior with mild white matter damage in cuprizone-treated mice.Handi Zhang Yanbo Zhang Haiyun Xu Lingyan Wang Jinsong Zhao Junhui Wang Zhijun Zhang Qingrong Tan Jiming Kong Qingjun Huang Xin-Min Li 2013Neuroscience Bulletin2013,29,5:4
17Overexpression of GhPFN2 enhances protection against Verticillium dahliae invasion in cotton显示文摘Growing evidence indicates that actin cytoskeleton is involved in plant innate immune responses,but the functional mechanism remains largely unknown.Here,we investigated the behavior of a cotton profilin gene(GhPFN2) in response to Verticillium dahliae invasion,and evaluated its contribution to plant defense against this soil-borne fungal pathogen.GhPFN2 expression was up-regulated when cotton root was inoculated with V.dahliae,and the actin architecture was reorganized in the infected root cells,with a clear increase in the density of filamentous actin and the extent of actin bundling.Compared to the wild type,GhPFN2-overexpressing cotton plants showed enhanced protection against V.dahliae infection and the actin cytoskeleton organization in root epidermal cells was clearly altered,which phenocopied that of the wild-type(WT) root cells challenged with V.dahliae.These results provide a solid line of evidence showing that actin cytoskeleton reorganization involving GhPFN2 is important for defense against V.dahliae infection.Wenyan Wang Yongduo Sun Libo Han Lei Su Ouixian Xia Haiyun Wang 2017Science China(Life Sciences)2017,60,8:4

20Expression of a cotton profilin gene GhPFN1 is associated with fiber cell elongation显示文摘Profilin is an important actin-binding protein involved in regulating the organization of actin filaments. A cotton profilin gene (GhPFN1) that shares 71% identity to profilin1 of Arabidopsis in its amino acid sequence was isolated. Semi-quantitative RT-PCR showed that GhPFN1 was expressed preferentially in the developing cotton fibers and reached the highest level at the fast elongation stage.
