| 1 | Water in the Mogao Grottoes,China:where it comes from and how it is driven显示文摘The Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes in China was designated as a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1987 and is famous for its cultural relics. Water is the most active factor that harms the relics in the caves as it damages the grotto murals and painted sculptures. Thus, determining the water sources and driving forces of water movement is a key issue for protecting these cultural relics. These issues have troubled relics protectors for a long time. In this study, the authors chose a representative cave in the Mogao Grottoes and, by completely sealing the cave to make a closed system, measured the water vapor from the surrounding rock. This was accomplished by installing a condensation–dehumidification temperature–humidity control system for the collection of water vapor. The results show that there is continuous evaporation from the deep surrounding rock into the cave. The daily evaporation capacity is determined to be 1.02 g/(d?m2). The water sources and driving forces of water movement were further analyzed according to the character of the water evaporation and by monitoring the temperature and humidity of the surrounding rock. It was found that the water vapor in the cave derives from phreatic water. Moreover, the yearly fluctuation of temperature in the surrounding rock and geothermal forces are the basic powers responsible for driving phreatic evaporation. Under the action of the yearly temperature fluctuations, decomposition and combination of bound water acts as a 'pump' that drives phreatic water migration and evaporation. When the temperature rises, bound water decomposes and evaporates; and when it falls, the rock absorbs moisture. This causes the phreatic water to move from deep regions to shallow ones. | 3 | Impact of Shipping Distance on Online Retailers' Sales:A Case Study of Maiyang on Tmall显示文摘Many studies have qualitatively explained that information and communication technology(ICT) has loosened the restrictions of distance and space on retailers' sales. Few empirical studies, however, have explored the impact of shipping distance on online retailers' sales. This study examined the Maiyang(M-Y) store on Tmall in China as a case study to investigate the relationship between shipping distance and sales. The results showed that sales volume in 2014 at the county level did not strictly obey the distance decay law. The shipped distance of high-priced commodities may not be much longer than that of low-priced commodities. Within the scope of investigation, the relationships between income, cost, and net profit curves do not follow central place theory. Goods have neither thresholds nor ranges. The key factor in the spatial discrepancy of sales is the size of market. | 4 | GSPAC water movement in extremely dry area显示文摘Under an extremely arid condition,a PVC greenhouse was built on the top of Mogao Grottoes in gobi area.The results of 235-day constant extraction of condensed water on the greenhouse film and soil water content showed that 2.1 g/(m2·d) groundwater moved up and exported into the soil,and a phreatic water evaporation existed in the extreme dry area where the groundwater is buried deeper than 200 m.After a prolonged export,the soil water content in the greenhouse was not lower but obviously higher than the original control ones.According to the monitored parameters including relative humidity and absolute humidity of soil,and temperature outside and inside the greenhouse,it was found that there is the available condition and mechanism for the upward movement of groundwater,and also it can be sure that the exported water was not from the soil and atmosphere outside the greenhouse.Phreatic water,an important source for soil water,interacts with atmosphere moisture via soil respiration.Soil salinity also has important effects on soil water movement and spatial-temporal heterogeneity.The extremely dry climate,terrestrial heat and change of upper soil temperature are the fundamental driving forces of water transportation and phreatic water evaporation in the Groundwater-Soil-Plant-Atmosphere Continuum(GSPAC) system. | HongShou Ll WanFu WANG GuoBin ZHANG ZhengMo ZHANG XiaoWei WANG | 2011 | Journal of Arid Land2011,3,2: | 4 |
| 5 | Glycine functionalized activated carbon derived from navel orange peel for enhancement recovery of Gd(Ⅲ)显示文摘Glycine functionalized activated carbon adsorption material(NOPAC-GLY-X)was successfully prepared by one-step thermal decomposition using agricultural waste navel orange peel as a precursor.Through batch adsorption experiments,it is found that the adsorption performance of Gd(Ⅲ)on activated carbon can be significantly enhanced by glycine modification.The adsorption isotherms of the NOPACs conform to the Langmuir isotherm model,and the maximum adsorption capacity of the activated carbon sample NOPAC-Gly-60 is approximately 48.5 mg/g.The Gd(Ⅲ)adsorption capacity of navel orange peel activated carbon can be doubled after glycine modification,and the adsorption efficiency of gadolinium can reach99%at pH=7.The physicochemical properties of the prepared adsorbents were characterized by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),elemental analysis(EA),and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).The characterization test shows that the specific surface area of the sample increases from 1121 to 1523 m^(2)/g,and the ratio of(N+O)/C increases from 10.8%to 30.0%by the glycine modification.After five cycles of adsorption-desorption,the adsorption capacity can still be maintained at 88%of the initial capacity.NOPAC-GLY-60 has excellent adsorption selectivity for Gd(Ⅲ).With the obvious advantages of simple synthesis steps and low cost,the activated carbon modification method adopted in this study has great application value in the field of rare earth adsorption and recovery. | Bin Xiao Lijinhong Huang Wanfu Huang Dongmei Zhang Xiangrong Zeng Xiaohui Yao | 2022 | Journal of Rare Earths2022,40,11: | 3 |
| 6 | Effect of hole arrangement patterns on the leakage and rotordynamic characteristics of the honeycomb seal显示文摘The honeycomb seal is a vital component to reduce the leakage flow and improvethe system stability for the turbomachines. In this work, a three-dimensional model is established for the interlaced hole honeycomb seal (IHHCS) and the non-interlaced hole honeycombseal (NIHHCS) to investigate its leakage and rotordynamic characteristics by adopting computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Results show that the hole arrangement patterns have littleimpact on the pressure drop and turbulence kinetic energy distribution for the seals, and theIHHCS possesses a slightly lower leakage flow rate than the NIHHCS. Moreover, the numericalresults also show that the NIHHCS possesses a better rotordynamic performance than theIHHCS at all investigated conditions. Both seals show a larger k and a lower Ceff with the increase of the positive preswirl ratios and rotational speeds, while the negative preswirl ratioswould reduce the k and improve the Ceff. | 8 | The Notch pathway attenuates burn-induced acute lung injury in rats by repressing reactive oxygen species显示文摘Background:Acute lung injury(ALI)is a common complication following severe burns.The underlying mechanisms of ALI are incompletely understood;thus,available treatments are not sufficient to repair the lung tissue after ALI.Methods:To investigate the relationship between the Notch pathway and burn-induced lung injury,we established a rat burn injury model by scalding and verified lung injury via lung injury evaluations,including hematoxylin and eosin(H&E)staining,lung injury scoring,bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and wet/dry ratio analyses,myeloperoxidase immunohistochemical staining and reac-tive oxygen species(ROS)accumulation analysis.To explore whether burn injury affects Notch1 expression,we detected the expression of Notch1 and Hes1 after burn injury.Then,we extracted pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells(PMVECs)and conducted Notch pathway inhibition and activation experiments,via aγ-secretase inhibitor(GSI)and OP9-DLL1 coculture,respectively,to verify the regulatory effect of the Notch pathway on ROS accumulation and apoptosis in burn-serum-stimulated PMVECs.To investigate the regulatory effect of the Notch pathway on ROS accumulation,we detected the expression of oxidative-stress-related molecules such as superoxide dismutase,nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate(NADPH)oxidase(NOX)2,NOX4 and cleaved caspase-3.NOX4-specific small interfering RNA(siRNA)and the inhibitor GKT137831 were used to verify the regulatory effect of the Notch pathway on ROS via NOX4.Results:We successfully established a burn model and revealed that lung injury,excessive ROS accumulation and an inflammatory response occurred.Notch1 detection showed that the expression of Notch1 was significantly increased after burn injury.In PMVECs challenged with burn serum,ROS and cell death were elevated.Moreover,when the Notch pathway was suppressed by GSI,ROS and cell apoptosis levels were significantly increased.Conversely,these parameters were reduced when the Notch pathway was activated by OP9-DLL1.Mechanistically,the inhibition of NOX4 by siRNA and GKT137831 showed that the Notch pathway reduced ROS production and cell apoptosis by downregulating the expression of NOX4 in PMVECs.Conclusions:The Notch pathway reduced ROS production and apoptosis by downregulating the expression of NOX4 in burn-stimulated PMVECs.The Notch-NOX4 pathway may be a novel therapeutic target to treat burn-induced ALI. | Weixia Cai Kuo Shen Peng Ji Yanhui Jia Shichao Han Wanfu Zhang Xiaolong Hu Xuekang Yang Juntao Han Dahai Hu | 2022 | Burns & Trauma2022,10,1: | 2 |

| 14 | Concentrations,sources,and influential factors of water-soluble ions of atmospheric particles in Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes,a world heritage site in China显示文摘Atmospheric particle pollution is one of the major factors leading to degradation of ancient wall paintings,particularly heritage sites in arid and semi-arid regions.However,current systematic research on the changes,sources,and influential factors of atmospheric particulate matter and its water-soluble ion concentrations is not sufficient.Thus,the major water-soluble ion concentrations,sources,and influential factors of atmospheric particles PM_(2.5) and PM_(10)(particulate matter with an aerodynamic equivalent diameter≤2.5 and 10.0μm,respectively,in ambient air)were collected from Cave 16 and its ambient exterior environment in the Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes,China,between April 2015 and March 2016.Results showed that the concentrations of PM_(2.5) and PM_(10) inside and outside the cave were the highest in March 2016 and the lowest in December 2015.The higher particle concentration from March to May was related to the frequent occurrence of sand and dust events,and the lower particle concentration from June to September was associated with good diffusion conditions,increased precipitation,and an established cave shelterbelt.The concentration of particulate matter inside the cave was affected by the concentration of particles in the air outside the cave.Ca2+,NH+4,Na+,Cl-,and SO2-4were the main components of the total ions of PM_(2.5) and PM_(10) both inside and outside the cave.The total ions inside the cave were frequently affected by the disturbance of tourists'activities during the peak tourist season from May to August.Under the influence of dust,the total concentrations of Cl-,SO2-4,Na+,NH+4,and Ca2+in particles of different sizes inside and outside the cave increased,and the concentrations of Cl-,SO2-4,Na+,and Ca2+decreased during precipitation period.Backward air mass trajectory analysis suggested that the pollutants were mainly from Xinjiang,China.The pollutant sources of air particulates are straw burning,secondary pollution sources,soil dust,dry spring rivers,and tourist activities. | YANG Xiaoju WU Fasi XU Ruihong LI Na ZHANG Zhengmo XUE Ping WANG Wanfu ZHAO Xueyong | 2022 | Journal of Arid Land2022,14,12: | 1 |
