| 1 | Spatial and temporal dynamics of phytoplankton and bacterioplankton biomass in Sanya Bay, northern South China Sea显示文摘The composition of phytoplankton and the dynamics of phytoplankton and bacterioplankton biomass (PB and BB, respectively) of Sanya Bay, South China Sea, were determined. A total of 168 species (67 genera) phytoplankton were identified, including Bacillariophyta (diatom, 128 species), Pyrrophyta (35 species), Cyanophyta (3 species), and Chrysophyta (2 species). Annual average abundance of phytoplankton was 1.2 × 107 cells/m3, with the highest abundance in autumn, and the lowest in summer. Annual average diversity index (H ) and evenness (J) values were 3.96 and 0.70, respectively. Average chlorophyll-a was 2.5 mg/m3, and the average PB was 124 mg C/m3, with the highest value in autumn. Surface PB was higher than the bottom, except for summer. Annual mean bacterioplankton abundance and BB were 6.9 × 1011 cells/m3 and 13.8 mg C/m3, respectively. The highest BB was found in summer, followed by winter, spring, and autumn. Surface BB was higher than bottom all year round. The spatial distribution patterns of PB and BB were very similar with the highest biomass in the estuary, and decreased seaward, primarily due to the terrestrial input from the Sanya River and influx of oceanic water. The main factor influencing PB and BB was dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN). Other factors such as temperature, which is above 22°C throughout the year, had a negligible impact. The correlation between BB and PB was significant (P < 0.01). The annual average ratio of BB/PB was 0.12 (0.06-0.15). | 3 | Chlorophyll a increase induced by surface winds in the northern South China Sea显示文摘The response of chlorophyll a (Chl a) concentration to wind stress is analyzed in the South China Sea (SCS), using in-situ data of Chl a and remote sensing data (QuikScat-sea surface wind (SSW), AVHRR-sea surface temperature (SST), AVISO merged-sea level anomalies (SLA), SeaWiFSderived Chl a and MODIS Terra-derived Chl a) in August/September/October 2004, 2006 and 2009. The variability of SSW, SST and SLA 7 d before in-situ Chl a sampling (including the work day of in-situ Chl a sampling) with the same latitude and longitude of the study area are investigated, and the correlation coefficients are calculated between these hydrographic factors and in-situ Chl a concentration. The results show that the Chl a-SSW correlation coefficients at upper layers (such as 0 m and 25 m) are more significant than those at deeper layers (such as 50, 75 and 100 m) 1-3 d before, which indicates that there is a time lag of strong surface winds stimulating phytoplankton bloom. By analyzing the relationship among the daily remote sensing derived (RSderived) SSW, SST, SLA and 3 d averaged SeaWiFS/MODIS-derived Chl a concentration in the northern SCS in September 2004 and 2009 respectively, it shows that the intensity and speed of surface winds could have great influence on extend of Chl a increase. | 4 | Coral cover as a proxy of disturbance:A case study of the biodiversity of the hermatypic corals in Yongxing Island, Xisha Islands in the South China Sea显示文摘The Yongxing Island is the biggest island of Xisha Islands in the middle part of the South China Sea. It occupies 1.8 square kilometers of land area and has permanent residence on it. There are only a few papers on the coral community of the Xisha Islands, reporting the species composition, structure and zonations of the hermatypic coral community in 1970s. The present study describes the hermatypic coral community based on the quadrat survey after almost 30 years in Yongxing Island in August 2002. It was the first time to present the percent cover data of live corals of Yongxing Island via a systematic scheme of quantitative quadrat sampling. The average total percent cover of the live coral is 68.4%. We found the total percent cover (TPC) could be an idea proxy of the overall disturbance regime impinging on the coral community. TPC can be used as an integrated measure of disturbance to coral reef. Using this surrogate, the best fit relation between TPC of the live corals and species richness, species diversity, or the species evenness is the unimodal second-order polymorphic parabola equation. This result is expected by the intermediate disturbance hypothesis (IDH). From the fitted parabola equations, we calculated the best TPCs corresponding to the maximal species richness, the highest species diversity, or the most evenness respectively. They are surprisingly stabilized between 55% and 58%. Coralcover is the basic parameter widely available for most observation, research or monitoring programs. | 5 | Variations in silicate concentration affecting photosynthetic carbon fixation by spring phytoplankton assemblages in surface water of the Strait of Malacca显示文摘The Strait of Malacca (SoM), the world's busiest sea-route, is increasingly polluted as the rapid development of world trades, affecting phytoplankton primary productivity therein. The variations of surface phytoplankton biomass, size-structure and carbon fixation were investigated across the SoM during the spring period (May 4 to 9, 2011). Chlorophyll a concentration increased from 0.12 μg/L at the northwest entrance of the SoM to a maximal 0.63 μg/L at narrowest section, and decreased to 0.10 μg/L at the southeast entrance. Photosynthetic carbon fixation by phytoplankton coincided well with Chl a biomass, and increased from 10.8 to 22.3 μg C/(L d), then decreased to 9.21 μg C/(L d); while the carbon fixation rate showed an inverse pattern to the changes of Chl a, and decreased from 87.1 to 35.5 μg C/(μg Chl a d) and increased thereafter to 95.3 μg C/(μg Chla·d). Picophytoplankton cells (<3 μm) contributed to more than 60% and 50% of the total Chl a and carbon fixation at both the entry waters; while the contributions of pico-cells decreased sharply to the minimum of 18.3% and 27.5% at the narrowest part of the SoM. | 6 | Particulate matter pollution in Kunshan High-Tech zone: Source apportionment with trace elements, plume evolution and its monitoring显示文摘Particulate matter(PM) in the Kunshan High-Tech zone is studied during a three-month campaign. PM and trace elements are measured by the online pollution monitoring, forecastwarning and source term retrieval system AS3. Hourly measured concentrations of PM_(10), PM_(2.5) and 16 trace elements in the PM_(2.5) section(Ca, Pb, Cu, Cl, V, Cr, Fe, Ti, Mn, Ni, Zn, Ga, As, Se, Sr, Ba)are focused. Source apportionment of trace elements by Positive Matrix Factorization modeling indicates that there are five major sources, including dust, industrial processing, traffic,combustion, and sea salt with contribution rate of 23.68%, 21.66%, 14.30%, 22.03%, and 6.89%,respectively. Prediction of plume dispersion from concrete plant and traffic emissions shows that PM_(10) pollution of concrete plant is three orders of magnitude more than that of the traffic. The influence range can extend to more than 3 km in 1 hr. Because the footprint of the industrial plumes is constantly moving according to the local meteorological conditions, the fixed monitoring sites scattered in a few hundred meters haven't captured the heaviest pollution plume at the local scale of a few km^2. As a more intensive monitoring network is not operationally possible, the use of online modeling gives accurate and quantitative information of plume location, which increases the spatial pollution monitoring capacity and improves the understanding of measurement data. | 12 | Spatial-Temporal Change of Phytoplankton Biomass in the East China Sea with MODIS Data显示文摘A ten-year chlorophyll-a concentration dataset from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectro-radiometer(MODIS) were used to analyze the variation of phytoplankton biomass and its potential relation with climate in the East China Sea. The result indicated that the phytoplankton biomass generally had a regular pattern every year, and phytoplankton bloom mainly occurred between May and July. The highest phytoplankton biomass appeared near the Yangtze River Estuary. The lowest phytoplankton biomass located near the Taiwan Strait. In general, the starting bloom time was earlier in the south than in the north, and the span time of the former was also longer. During the recent ten years, the phytoplankton biomass around the Yangtze River Estuary decreased obviously. The change of phytoplankton biomass was found to be related with the Ni?o3.4 Index. | 13 | Extraction of Protease Produced by Sea Mud Bacteria and Evaluation of Antifouling Performance显示文摘Enzyme-based antifouling coatings are potential alternative to traditional tributyltin-based coatings in the marine biofouling control depended on its environmental friendliness.Proteases are usually the key antifouling active components in enzyme based antifouling coatings.In this work,based on biological antagonism effect,a marine proteolytic bacterial strain of Bacillus velezensis was isolated from the sea mud,and denoted as SM-1.The scanning electron microscope(SEM)revealed that the bacteria are rod-shaped with length 1-1.3μm.The protease-producing conditions of SM-1 were investigated,and it was found that the culture solution displays higher proteolytic activity under the culture conditions of 35℃,10‰-20‰salinity,pH 6-9 and more than 7 d culture time.Moreover,the 25 kDa protein was confirmed to be the main active component in the crude protease,which was revealed via the experiment of SDS-PAGE.The antifouling assay indicated that the protease SM-1 has remarkable effect on the decomposition of barnacle cement and diatom secretion,and also can effectively inhibit the attachment of barnacle cyprids,diatom and mussel byssus.Therefore,this protease potentially can be used as environmental-friendly antifoulant of enzyme-based marine antifouling coatings,and this work also provides a new approach to obtain antifouling protease via isolating proteolytic bacteria from the sea mud surrounding representative fouling organisms. | WANG Li YU Liangmin LIN Cunguo | 2019 | Journal of Ocean University of China2019,18,5: | 1 |

| 16 | Synergistic effect from coaxially integrated CNTs@MoS_(2)/MoO_(2) composite enables fast and stable lithium storage显示文摘Molybdenum oxide/sulfide materials are extensively evaluated as high-capacity anode candidates for lithium ion batteries.However,they suffer from rapid capacity decay and poor kinetics.Herein,we report on synergistic effect from structurally integrated coaxial CNTs@MoS_(2)/MoO_(2) composite material on lithium storage,in which MoS_(2)/MoO_(2) nanosheets are conformally decorated on carbon nanotubes(CNTs).In-situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction measurement is performed to elucidate synergistic effect among three MoS_(2),MoO_(2) and CNTs components for lithium storage.Reaction mechanism exploration reveals that the MoO_(2) component undergoes reversible Li^(+)intercalation via forming a stable Li_(0.98) MoO_(2) phase over a voltage range of 3.0 to 0.01 V vs.Li^(+)/Li,without experiencing the conversion reaction into metallic Mo,which contributes to long-term stability during charge/discharge cycles.Meanwhile,lithium storage of MoS_(2) is through lithium and sulfur reversible reaction after the initial conversion reaction of lithiated MoS_(2) forming Li_(2)S and Mo.The CNTs component enhances electronic conductivity and structural stability by minimizing volume change and reaction strains in the CNTs@MoS_(2)/MoO_(2) composite anode.A desired 68.2%capacity retention upon 2000 cycles at 10 A/g has been demonstrated for the CNTs@MoS_(2)/MoO_(2) anode,revealing prominent reaction kinetics and structural stability for fast and stable lithium storage,superior to various Mo-based anode materials previously reported.The findings from this study,with the unique insight into the role of structural integrity in combining MoS_(2)/MoO_(2) materials with the CNTs substrate,offers a strategy for designing composite anode materials for superior lithium storage performance. | Hui Lu Kai Tian Liangmin Bu Xue Huang Xiangyi Li Yue Zhao Feng Wang Jianming Bai Lijun Gao Jianqing Zhao | 2021 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2021,30,4: | 0 |
| 17 | Changes in clinical indicators among human immunodeficiency virus patients who failed in antiretroviral therapy during 2004–2016 in Yunnan, China: an observational cohort study显示文摘Background:This study aimed to investigate the changes in the clinical indicators and influencing factors of treatment duration among human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)patients in whom antiretroviral therapy(ART)was unsuccessful.Methods:In this retrospective study,a total of 9,418 HIV patients who failed in ART during 2004–2016 were included and divided into two treatment groups—Group 1(treatment time≤3 years,n1=5,218)and Group 2(treatment time>3 years,n2=4,200).Patient follow-up data,including age,cluster of differentiation 4(CD4)count,and viral load,glucose,creatinine,and triglyceride levels,were extracted from electronic health record databases.Covariance analysis for repeated measures was used to analyze the biochemical indicators,and multiple logistic regression modeling was used to compare relevant data extracted from the Group 1 and Group 2 HIV patient cohorts with different treatment time.Results:The median initial CD4 count was 175.0 cells/μl(interquartile range,77.0–282.0),while the initial CD4 counts for Group 1 were lower than those for Group 2(P<0.05).A significant interaction between group and time effects was observed(P<0.05)in total cholesterol(TC).Changes in hemoglobin level among HIV patients were also significantly associated with treatment time(P=0.001).The initial CD4 count(odds ratio[OR]=0.756),female sex(OR=0.713),Zerit(d4T)(OR=1.443),TC(OR=1.285),and aspartate aminotransferase level(OR=1.002)were significantly associated with the survival time of dead patients with HIV(P<0.05).Additionally,the initial CD4 count(OR=1.456),age(OR=1.022),time interval(OR=0.903),patient’s living status(OR=0.597),d4T(OR=2.256),and triglyceride(OR=0.930)and hemoglobin levels(OR=0.997)were significantly associated with the treatment time of HIV patients with drug withdrawal(P<0.05).Conclusion:The initial biochemical parameters can affect the survival and treatment time of HIV patients.With a comprehensive understanding of the physiological and biochemical indicators of patients,we can reduce the probability of drug withdrawal and prolong the survival time of HIV patients. | Peicheng Wang Junfang Xu Bingbing Guo Jason K Wang Liangmin Gao Qianyun Wang Jun Jing Feng Cheng | 2020 | Global Health Journal2020,4,2: | 0 |

| 19 | Antiretroviral regimen change among people infected with HIV:evidence from a crosssectional study in China显示文摘Background:The rate of death among people living with HIV/AIDS has decreased significantly as a result of treatment with highly active antiretroviral therapy(HAART).However,the issues of drug induced toxicities and complexity of current HAART regimens has remained of great concern.The aim of this study was to determine factors in uencing antiretroviral regimen changes among people living with HIV/AIDS in China.Methods:This retrospective study collected data through face-to-face interviews with people living with HIV/AIDS who were receiving HAART,and gathered relevant information from infectious disease hospitals.The following information were collected:social-demographic characteristics,antiretroviral therapies,CD4 cell counts,virus loads,reasons for changing medication and other related data.Mean and percentages were used to describe the frequency of regimen change among patients,and binary logistic regression was employed to test the factors in uencing regimen change.Results:1,123 people who had experienced regimen change were included in the analysis.On average,patients remained on HAART for 10.2 months before changing regimen,and the average CD4 cell count and viral load(VL)were 383.1 cells/ l and 28,132.4 copies/mL respectively when changing regimen.The reasons for modi cation were determined as treatment failure(52.5%),adverse reactions(32.3%),and other reasons including pregnancy(15.2%).There are significant differences in regimen change among people with different genders(P<0.001),modes of transmission(P<0.001),duration of HAART(P<0.001)and initial CD4 cell counts(P=0.0024).Males,drug users,people taking long-term medication,and those with lower initial CD4 counts when starting HAART tend to change regimen.Conclusion:Treatment failure was the main reason for the change of HAART regimen.Males,drug users,people on longterm medication and those with lower initial CD4 cell counts when starting HAART were most likely to change regimen. | Junfang Xu Peicheng Wang Liangmin Gao Xinyu Peng Feng Cheng | 2018 | Global Health Journal2018,2,3: | 0 |
| 20 | Morphological and molecular evidence supports the occurrence of a single species of Zebrias zebrinus along the coastal waters of China显示文摘The so-called zebra sole includes a group of small flatfishes characterized by transverse band pairs on the ocular side and distributed throughout shallow waters along the coast of the Indo-West Pacific Ocean. Several species of the zebra sole have been recorded from the coastal waters of China. Morphological analysis of 1 107 specimens of the zebra sole from 15 successive localities along the China's coast demonstrated that no significant variations among these localities were found on the basis of meristic counts and morphometric characters. Phylogenetic analysis based on COI gene sequences of 14 individuals and D-loop of 22 individuals from eight localities showed that they were indistinguishable among these localities. Therefore, both morphological and molecular evidence supported the occurrence of a single species of the zebra sole along the China's coast. The available name for this species is Zebrias zebrinus(Temminck and Schlegel, 1846) instead of Z. zebra(Bloch, 1787).
