| 1 | Contemporary crustal deformation of the Chinese continent and tectonic block model显示文摘We obtain the preliminary result of crustal deformation velocity field for the Chinese con-tinent by analyzing GPS data from the Crustal Motion Observation Network of China (CMONOC), particularly the data from the regional networks of CMONOC observed in 1999 and 2001. We de-lineate 9 tectonically active blocks and 2 broadly distributed deformation zones out of a denseGPS velocity field, and derive block motion Euler poles for the blocks and their relative motionrates. Our result reveals that there are 3 categories of deformation patterns in the Chinese conti-nent. The first category, associated with the interior of the Tibetan Plateau and the Tianshan oro-genic belt, shows broadly distributed deformation within the regions. The third category, associatedwith the Tarim Basin and the region east of the north-south seismic belt of China, shows block-likemotion, with deformation accommodated along the block boundaries only. The second category, mainly associated with the borderland of the Tibetan Plateau, such as the Qaidam, Qilian, Xining(in eastern Qinghai), and the Diamond-shaped (in western Sichuan and Yunnan) blocks, has thedeformation pattern between the first and the third, i.e. these regions appear to deform block-like,but with smaller sizes and less strength for the blocks. Based on the analysis of the lithosphericstructures and the deformation patterns of the regions above, we come to the inference that thedeformation modes of the Chinese continental crust are mainly controlled by the crustal structure.The crust of the eastern China and the Tarim Basin is mechanically strong, and its deformationtakes the form of relative motion between rigid blocks. On the other hand, the northward indentation of the Indian plate into the Asia continent has created the uplift of the Tibetan Plateau and the Tianshan Mountains, thickened their crust, and raised the temperature in the crust. The lower crust thus has become ductile, evidenced in low seismic velocity and high electric conductivity observed. The brittle part of the crust, driven by the visco-plastic flow of the lower crust, deforms extensively at all scales. The regions of the second category located at the borderland of the Tibetan Plateau are at the transition zone between the regions of the first and the third categories in terms of the crustal structure. | 2 | Comparative effect of electroacupuncture and moxibustion on the expression of substance P and vasoactive intestinal peptide in patients with irritable bowel syndrome显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To compare the impacts of electroacupuncture(EA) and moxibustion(Mox) on the primary gastrointestinal symptoms and the expressions of colonic mucosa-associated neuropeptide substance P(SP) and vasoactive intestinal peptide(VIP)in patients with either diarrhea-predominant or constipation-predominant irritable bowel syndrome(IBS-D and IBS-C,respectively).METHODS: Eighty-five IBS patients were randomly allocated to the EA and Mox groups. Zusanli(ST 36)and Shangjuxu(ST 37) were selected as acupoints for electroacupuncture or warm moxibustion treatment once a day for 14 consecutive days. Before and after the treatment sessions,a Visual Analog Pain Scale and the Bristol Stool Form Scale were used to evaluate gastrointestinal symptoms. There were four dropout cases,leaving 81 participants(41 with IBS-D and 40 with IBS-C) who volunteered to undergo colonoscopy before and after the treatment sessions. During colonoscopy,sigmoid mucosa were collected to detect SP and VIP expression using immunohistochemistry assay.RESULTS: Both EA and Mox treatments were effective at relieving abdominal pain in IBS-D and IBS-C patients. However,Mox was more effective at reducing diarrhea in IBS-D patients,whereas EA was more effective at improving constipation in IBS-C patients. | 6 | The mass-balance characteristics and sensitivities to climate variables of Laohugou Glacier No.12,western Qilian Mountains,China显示文摘Due to global warming, glaciers on the Tibetan Plateau(TP) are experiencing widespread shrinkage; however, the mechanisms controlling glacier variations across the TP are still rather unclear, especially on the northeastern TP. In this study, a physically based, distributed surface-energy and mass-balance model was used to simulate glacier mass balance forced by meteorological data. The model was applied to Laohugou No. 12 Glacier, western Qilian Mountains, China, during2010~2012. The simulated albedo and mass balance were validated and calibrated by in situ measurements. The simulated annual glacier-wide mass balances were-385 mm water equivalent(w.e.) in 2010/2011 and-232 mm w.e. in 2011/2012,respectively. The mean equilibrium-line altitude(ELA) was 5,015 m a.s.l., during 2010~2012, which ascended by 215 m compared to that in the 1970 s. The mean accumulation area ratio(AAR) was 39% during the two years. Climatic-sensitivity experiments indicated that the change of glacier mass balance resulting from a 1.5 °C increase in air temperature could be offset by a 30% increase in annual precipitation. | 9 | Vertical migration through faults and hydrocarbon accumulation patterns in deepwater areas of the Qiongdongnan Basin显示文摘In the Qiongdongnan Basin, faults are well developed. Based on the drilling results, the traps controlled two or more faults are oil-rich. However, when only one fault cut through the sand body, there is no sign for hydrocarbon accumulation in the sandstone. In terms of this phenomenon, the principle of reservoir-forming controlled by fault terrace is proposed, i.e., when the single fault activates, because of the incompressibility of pore water, the resistance of pore and the direction of buoyancy, it is impossible for hydrocarbon to accumulate in sandstone. But when there are two or more faults, one of the faults acts as the spillway so the hydrocarbon could fill in the pore of sandstone through other faults. In total five gas bearing structures and four failure traps are considered, as examples to demonstrate our findings. Oxygen isotopes(δ18O) and major soluble ions were measured. Results showed that Ca2+ is the dominant cation, and SO42- is the dominant anion. All major ions have close positive correlations with eachother except NO3- and NH4+. δ18O show positive correlation with air temperature. The method of correlation analysis, sea-salt ion tracer and trend analysis were used to determine the source of the chemical components. | 13 | Electro-acupuncture at Zusanli(ST 36) to improve lower extremity motor function in sensory disturbance patients with cerebral stroke A randomized controlled study of 240 cases显示文摘BACKGROUND:Studies have shown that sensory transduction is a way to introduce needle sensation. OBJECTIVE:To observe the influence of electro-acupuncture at the'Zusanli'(ST 36) point on lower extremity motor function in various sensory disturbance patients with cerebral stroke. DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:A randomized,controlled,clinical study was performed at the Department of Neurological Rehabilitation,China Rehabilitation Research Centre from September 2006 to June 2008. PARTICIPANTS:Patients with first-time cerebral infarction or hemorrhage,or with a stroke history, but no neurodysfunction(single damage),were selected for this study.The subjects were right-handed and disease state was stable.A total of 240 inpatients were randomly assigned to the following groups:electro-acupuncture(n= 124) and control(n= 116).The two groups were further assigned into sub-groups:no sensory disturbance,superficial sensory disturbance,deep sensory disturbance,and deep and superficial sensory disturbance. METHODS:On the basis of routine limb function training,the acupoint Zusanli was utilized in all patients from the electro-acupuncture group.Perpendicular acupuncture was 3.0-4.0 cm deep.An electric acupuncture instrument was connected when patients developed the needle sensation,deqi. A stimulation pattern consisting of distant and dense waves of 50 Hz was used to elicit slight dorsal foot extension.Acupuncture was administered 5 times per week,30 minutes per session,for 6 weeks in total. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Fugl-Meyer assessment(FMA) was used to evaluate lower extremity motor function;Ver.1.0 gait analysis to estimate gait(step frequency,step speed,and step scope);lower extremity Composite Spasticity Scale(CSS) to estimate muscle spastic degree. RESULTS:Following treatment,motor function improved in both groups.Compared with the control group,FMA score,step speed,step frequency,and step scope were increased in the electro-acupuncture group,but there was no difference in lower extremity CSS scores between the electro-acupuncture and the control groups(P>0.05).Compared with the control group,Zusanli (ST 36) electro-acupuncture improved motor function indices as follows:FMA score,step frequency, step speed,and step scope of patients with no sensory disturbance(P<0.05-0.01),step frequency of patients with superficial sensory disturbance(P<0.05),and step frequency and step speed of patients with deep sensory disturbance(P<0.05). | 14 | Inheritance of resistance to Helicoverpa armigera of 3 kinds of transgenic Bt strains available in upland cotton in China显示文摘There are 3 kinds of transgenic Bt strains, Shanxi 94-24, Zhongxin 94, and R19, in upland cotton in China. Their transgenic Bt insect-resistance cultivars or hybrids have been developed and grown by farmers. Genetic studies indicate that the resistance of the 3 transgenic Bt cotton strains to Helicoverpa armigera is controlled by one pair of non-allelic dominant genes. Linkage relationship between the resistant genes of R19 and Shanxi 94-24 transgenic Bt strains shows that they may be inserted in the same chromosome. FT hybrids crossed among the 3 strains show that high levels of protection from feeding damage are the same as that of their parents. Therefore, there is no co-suppression phenomenon in many transgenic plants. For sampling design, it has been proposed possibile to transfer the relationships between kriging variance and sampling grid spacing from an area with existing information to other areas with similar soil-forming environments. However, this approach is challenged in practice because of two problems: i) different population vaxiograms among similar areas and ii) sampling errors in estimated variograms. This study evaluated the effects of these two problems on the transferability of the relationships between kriging variance and sampling grid spacing, by using spatial data simulated with three variograms and soil samples collected from four grasslands in Ireland with similar soil-forming environments. Results showed that the variograms suggested by different samples collected with the same grid spacing in the same or similar areas were different, leading to a range of mean kriging variance (MKV) for each grid spacing. With increasing grid spacing, the variation of MKV for a specific grid spacing increased and deviated more from the MKV generated using the population variograms.
