| 1 | Spatial patterns and driving forces of land use change in China during the early 21st century显示文摘Land use and land cover change as the core of coupled human-environment systems has become a potential field of land change science (LCS) in the study of global environmental change. Based on remotely sensed data of land use change with a spatial resolution of 1 km × 1 km on national scale among every 5 years, this paper designed a new dynamic regionalization according to the comprehensive characteristics of land use change including regional differentiation, physical, economic, and macro-policy factors as well. Spatial pattern of land use change and its driving forces were investigated in China in the early 21st century. To sum up, land use change pattern of this period was characterized by rapid changes in the whole country. Over the agricultural zones, e.g., Huang-Huai-Hai Plain, the southeast coastal areas and Sichuan Basin, a great proportion of fine arable land were engrossed owing to considerable expansion of the built-up and residential areas, resulting in decrease of paddy land area in southern China. The development of oasis agriculture in Northwest China and the reclamation in Northeast China led to a slight increase in arable land area in northern China. Due to the 'Grain for Green' policy, forest area was significantly increased in the middle and western developing regions, where the vegetation coverage was substantially enlarged, likewise. | 4 | Olive leaf extract inhibits lead poisoning-induced brain injury显示文摘Olive leaves have an antioxidant capacity,and olive leaf extract can protect the blood,spleen and hippocampus in lead-poisoned mice.However,little is known about the effects of olive leaf extract on lead-induced brain injury.This study was designed to determine whether olive leaf extract can inhibit lead-induced brain injury,and whether this effect is associated with antioxidant capacity.First,we established a mouse model of lead poisoning by continuous intragastric administration of lead acetate for 30 days.Two hours after successful model establishment,lead-poisoned mice were given olive leaf extract at doses of 250,500 or 1000 mg/kg daily by intragastric administration for 50 days.Under the transmission electron microscope,olive leaf extract attenuated neuronal and capillary injury and reduced damage to organelles and the matrix around the capillaries in the frontal lobe of the cerebral cortex in the lead-poisoned mice.Olive leaf extract at a dose of 1000 mg/kg had the greatest protective effect.Spectrophotometry showed that olive leaf extract significantly increased the activities of superoxide dismutase,catalase,alkaline phosphatase and acid phosphatase,while it reduced malondialdehyde content,in a dose-dependent manner.Furthermore,immunohistochemical staining revealed that olive leaf extract dose-dependently decreased Bax protein expression in the cerebral cortex of lead-poisoned mice.Our findings indicate that olive leaf extract can inhibit lead-induced brain injury by increasing antioxidant capacity and reducing apoptosis. | Yu Wang Shengqing Wang Wenhui Cui Jiujun He Zhenfu Wang Xiaolu Yang | 2013 | Neural Regeneration Research2013,8,22: | 21 |

| 6 | Optimality analysis of one-step OOSM filtering algorithms in target tracking显示文摘In centralized multisensor tracking systems, there are out-of-sequence measurements (OOSMs) frequently arising due to different time delays in communication links and varying pre-processing times at the sensor. Such OOSM arrival can induce the “negative-time measurement update” problem, which is quite common in real multisensor tracking systems. The A1 optimal update algorithm with OOSM is presented by Bar-Shalom for one-step case. However, this paper proves that the optimality of A1 algorithm is lost in direct discrete-time model (DDM) of the process noise, it holds true only in discretized continuous-time model (DCM). One better OOSM filtering algorithm for DDM case is presented. Also, another new optimal OOSM filtering algorithm, which is independent of the discrete time model of the process noise, is presented here. The performance of the two new algorithms is compared with that of A1 algorithm by Monte Carlo simulations. | 8 | Supplementation with sodium butyrate improves growth and antioxidant function in dairy calves before weaning显示文摘Background: There is increasing research interest in using short-chain fatty acids(SCFAs) including butyrate as potential alternatives to antibiotic growth promoters in animal production. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of supplementation of sodium butyrate(SB) in liquid feeds(milk, milk replacer, and the mixture of both)on the growth performance, rumen fermentation, and serum antioxidant capacity and immunoglobins in dairy calves before weaning. Forty healthy female Holstein calves(4-day-old, 40 ± 5 kg of body weight) were housed in individual hutches and randomly allocated to 1 of 4 treatment groups(n = 10 per group) using the RAND function in Excel. The control group was fed no SB(SB0), while the other three groups were supplemented with 15(SB15),30(SB30), or 45(SB45) g/d of SB mixed into liquid feeds offered. The calves were initially fed milk only(days 2 to 20), then a mixture of milk and milk replacer(days 21 to 23), and finally milk replacer only(days 24 to 60).Results: The SB supplementation enhanced growth and improved feed conversion into body weight gain compared with the SB0 group, and the average daily gain increased quadratically with increasing SB supplementation. No significant effect on rumen pH;concentrations of NH_3-N, individual and total VFAs;or acetate:propionate(A:P) ratio was found during the whole experimental period. Serum glutathione peroxidase activity increased linearly with the increased SB supplementation, while the serum concentration of maleic dialdehyde linearly decreased. Serum concentrations of immunoglobulin A, immunoglobulin G, or immunoglobulin M were not affected by the SB supplementation during the whole experimental period.Conclusions: Under the conditions of this study, SB supplementation improved growth performance and antioxidant function in pre-weaned dairy calves. | 9 | Kinetics of iron removal from metallurgical grade silicon with pressure leaching显示文摘In this paper, the kinetics of pressure leaching for purification of metallurgical grade silicon with hydrochloric acid was investigated. The effects of particle size, temperature, total pressure, and concentration of hydrochloric acid on the kinetics and mechanism of iron removal were studied. It was found that the reaction kinetic model followed the shrinking core model, and the apparent activation energy of the leaching reaction was 46.908 kJ/mol. And the apparent reaction order of iron removal with pressure leaching was 0.899. | 10 | Highly Efficient Adsorption of Copper Ions by a PVP-Reduced Graphene Oxide Based On a New Adsorptions Mechanism显示文摘Polyvinylpyrrolidone-reduced graphene oxide was prepared by modified hummers method and was used as adsorbent for removing Cu ions from wastewater. The effects of contact time and ions concentration on adsorption capacity were examined. The maximum adsorption capacity of 1689 mg/g was observed at an initial p H value of 3.5 after agitating for 10 min. It was demonstrated that polyvinylpyrrolidone-reduced graphene oxide had a huge adsorption capacity for Cu ions, which was 10 times higher than maximal value reported in previous works. The adsorption mechanism was also discussed by density functional theory. It demonstrates that Cu ions are attracted to surface of reduced graphene oxide by C atoms in reduced graphene oxide modified by polyvinylpyrrolidone through physisorption processes, which may be responsible for the higher adsorption capacity. Our results suggest that polyvinylpyrrolidone-reduced graphene oxide is an effective adsorbent for removing Cu ions in wastewater. | 12 | Physical location of rice Gm-6,Pi-5(t) genes in O.officinalis with BAC-FISH显示文摘A fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) procedure was adopted to physically map two rice BAC clones 24E21 and 4F22 linked to Gm-6 and Pi-5(t) in O. offi-cinalis. FISH results showed that the two BAC clones were located at 4L. The percentage distance from the centromere to the hybridization sites was 72 ± 2.62 for 24E21 and 54± 5.43 for 4F22, the detection rates were 52.70% and 61.2%. The results obtained from the BAC and plasmid clones, RG214 and RZ565 of cultivated rice and O. officinalis were the same. This suggested that the markers, RG214 and RZ565 of cultivated rice and O. officinalis were in the same BAC clones. The homologous sequences of Gm-6 and Pi-5(t) in O. officinalis were positions that signals existed on the 4L. Many signals were observed when no Cot-1 DNA blocked. | 13 | The zinc transporter Slc39a5 controls glucose sensing and insulin secretion in pancreatic β-cells via Sirt1- and Pgc-1α-mediated regulation of Glut2显示文摘Zinc levels are high in pancreatic β-cells, and zinc is involved in the synthesis, processing and secretion of insulin in these cells. However, precisely how cellular zinc homeostasis is regulated in pancreatic β-cells is poorly understood. By screening the expression of 14 Slc39a metal importer family member genes, we found that the zinc transporter Slc39a5 is significantly downregulated in pancreatic β-cells in diabetic db/db mice, obese ob/ob mice and high-fat diet-fed mice. Moreover,β-cell-specific Slc39a5 knockout mice have impaired insulin secretion. In addition, Slc39a5-deficient pancreatic islets have reduced glucose tolerance accompanied by reduced expression of Pgc-1α and its downstream target gene Glut2. The down-regulation of Glut2 in Slc39a5-deficient islets was rescued using agonists of Sirt1, Pgc-1α and Ppar-γ. At the mechanistic level, we found that Slc39a5-mediated zinc influx induces Glut2 expression via Sirt1-mediated Pgc-1α activation.
