| 1 | BMI, WC, WHtR, VFI and BFI: Which Indictor is the Most Efficient Screening Index on Type 2 Diabetes in Chinese Community Population显示文摘Objective Obesity is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes, many indexes can be used to describes obesity and predict diabetes. This research attempts to identify the best indicator of obesity to screening diabetes in Chinese population. Methods A cross-sectional data of 8121 subjects aged 35-60 years were included in this research belongs to the Diabetes Appropriate Technology Intervention Study. Anthropometric indicators including body weight, height, waist circumferences (WC), body fat index (BFI) and visceral fat index (VFI) and blood biochemical indicators after an overnight fast [fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, and triacylglycerol] were measured. BMI (body mass index) and Weight to Height Ratio was calculated. Results Subjects with obesity had a higher risk of physician diagnosed diabetes (OR=2.50, 95% CI 1.83-3.43), new diagnosed diabetes (OR=4.23, 95% CI 2.91-6.15) and pre-diabetes (OR=1.75, 95% CI 1.31-2.34) compared to those with normal Body mass index (BMI). There was a significant trend of increased risk of all diabetes status with increased waist circumference (WC). The waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) yielded the most significant association with new diagnosed diabetes and physician diagnosed diabetes than other indices. Conclusion Central obesity is significantly correlated with diabetes. | 4 | Tongqiao Huoxue Decoction ameliorates learning and memory defects in rats with vascular dementia by up-regulating the Ca^(2+)-CaMKII-CREB pathway显示文摘The present study was aimed at determining the effects of Tongqiao Huoxue Decoction(TQHXD) on the Ca2+-Ca MKII-CREB pathway and the memory and learning capacities of rats with vascular dementia(VD). The rat VD model was established by using an improved bilateral carotid artery ligation method. The Morris water maze experiment was used to evaluate the ethology of the VD rats following treatments with TQHXD at 3.01, 6.02, and 12.04 g·kg–1 per day for 31 days. At the end of experiment, the hippocampus were harvested and analyzed. Western blotting and RT-PCR were used to measure the expression levels of calmodulin-binding protein kinase II(Ca MKII), protein kinase A(PKA), c AMP-response element binding protein(CREB), and three N-methyl-D-aspartic acid receptor subunits(NR1, NR2 A, and NR2B). Our results revealed that TQHXD could alleviate the loss of learning abilities and increase the memory capacity(P < 0.05 and P < 0.01 vs the model group, respectively). The treatment with 6.02 and 12.04 g·kg–1 of TQHXD significantly up-regulated the Ca2+-Ca MKII-CREB pathway in the hippocampus. | 6 | Effects of warming and clipping on plant and soil properties of an alpine meadow in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, China显示文摘Climate warming and livestock grazing are known to have great influences on alpine ecosystems like those of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau(QTP) in China. However, it is lacking of studies on the effects of warming and grazing on plant and soil properties in these alpine ecosystems. In this study, we reported the related research from manipulative experiment in 2010–2012 in the QTP. The aim of this study was to investigate the individual and combined effects of warming and clipping on plant and soil properties in the alpine meadow ecosystem. Infrared radiators were used to simulate climate warming starting in July 2010, while clipping was performed once in October 2011 to simulate the local livestock grazing. The experiment was designed as a randomized block consisting of five replications and four treatments: control(CK), warming(W), clipping(C) and warming+clipping combination(WC). The plant and soil properties were investigated in the growing season of the alpine meadow in 2012. The results showed that W and WC treatments significantly decreased relative humidity at 20-cm height above ground as well as significantly increases air temperature at the same height, surface temperature, and soil temperature at the depth of 0–30 cm. However, the C treatment did not significantly decrease soil moisture and soil temperature at the depth of 0–60 cm. Relative to CK, vegetation height and species number increased significantly in W and WC treatment, respectively, while vegetation aboveground biomass decreased significantly in C treatment in the early growing season. However, vegetation cover, species diversity, belowground biomass and soil properties at the depth of 0–30 cm did not differ significantly in W, C and WC treatments. Soil moisture increased at the depth of 40–100 cm in W and WC treatments, while belowground biomass, soil activated carbon, organic carbon and total nitrogen increased in the 30–50 cm soil layer in W, C and WC treatments. Although the initial responses of plant and soil properties to experimental warming and clipping were slow and weak, the drought induced by the downward shift of soil moisture in the upper soil layers may induce plant belowground biomass to transfer to the deeper soil layers. This movement would modify the distributions of soil activated carbon, organic carbon and total nitrogen. | 7 | Casticin induces caspase-mediated apoptosis via activation of mitochondrial pathway and upregulation of DR5 in human lung cancer cells显示文摘Objective:To assess if casticin induces caspase-mediated apoptosis via activation of mitochondrial pathway and upregulation of DR5 in human lung cancer ceils.Methods:Human non-small-cell lung carcinoma cell lines H460,AS49 and H157 were cultured in vitro.The cytotoxic activities were determined using MTT assay.The apoptotic cells death was examined by flow cytometry using PI staining and DMA agarose gel electrophoresis.The activities of caspase-3, -8 and -9 were measured via ELISA.Cellular fractionation was determined by flow cytometry to assess release of cytochrome c and the mitochondrial transmembrane potential.Bcl-2/Bcl-XL/ XIAP/Bid/ DR5 and DR4 proteins were analyzed using western blot.Results:The concentrations required for a 50%decrease in cell growth(IC50) ranged from 1.8 to 3.2 Jt M.Casticin induced rapid apoptosis and triggered a series of effects associated with apoptosis by way of mitochondrial pathway,including the depolarization of the mitochondrial membrane,release of cytochrome c from mitochondria,activation of procaspase-9 and -3,and increase of DNA fragments.Moreover, the pan caspase inhibitor zVAD-FMK and the caspase-3 inhibitor zOEVD-FMK suppressed casticin-induced apoptosis.In addition,casticin induced XIAP and Bcl-XL down-regulation, Bax upregulation and Bid clearage.In H157 cell line,casticin increased expression of DRS at protein levels but not affect the expression of DR4.The prelreatmenl with DR5/Fc chimera protein effectively attenuated casticin-induced apoptosis in H157 cells.No correlation was found between cell sensitivity to casticin and that to p53 status,suggesting that casticin induce a p53- independent apoptosis.Conclusions:Our results demonstrate that casticin induces caspase-mediated apoptosis via activation of mitochondrial pathway and upregulation of DRS in human lung cancer cells. | Yuan Zhou Yi Peng Qi-Qi Mao Xia Li Ming-Wu Chen Ting Su Li Tian Nai-Quan Mao Ling-Zhi Long Mei-Fang Quan Fei Liu Su-Fang Zhou Yong-Xiang Zhao | 2013 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2013,6,5: | 11 |

| 9 | The role of glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta in brain injury induced by myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury in a rat model of diabetes mellitus显示文摘Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury can lead to severe brain injury.Glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta is known to be involved in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury and diabetes mellitus.However,the precise role of glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury-induced brain injury is unclear.In this study,we observed the effects of glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta on brain injury induced by myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury in diabetic rats.Rat models of diabetes mellitus were generated via intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin.Models of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury were generated by occluding the anterior descending branch of the left coronary artery.Post-conditioning comprised three cycles of ischemia/reperfusion.Immunohistochemical staining and western blot assays demonstrated that after 48 hours of reperfusion,the structure of the brain was seriously damaged in the experimental rats compared with normal controls.Expression of Bax,interleukin-6,interleukin-8,terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase d UTP nick end labeling,and cleaved caspase-3 in the brain was significantly increased,while expression of Bcl-2,interleukin-10,and phospho-glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta was decreased.Diabetes mellitus can aggravate inflammatory reactions and apoptosis.Ischemic post-conditioning with glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta inhibitor lithium chloride can effectively reverse these changes.Our results showed that myocardial ischemic post-conditioning attenuated myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury-induced brain injury by activating glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta.According to these results,glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta appears to be an important factor in brain injury induced by myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury. | Bo Zhao Wen-wei Gao Ya-jing Liu Meng Jiang Lian Liu Quan Yuan Jia-bao Hou Zhong-yuan Xia | 2017 | Neural Regeneration Research2017,12,10: | 8 |

Humic acids restrained atrazine degradation, nevertheless, when introducing Cu(II), the photodegradation was accelerated, in which singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) replaced ·OH acting as the prevailing species. | 13 | Alterations of brain local functional connectivity in amnestic mild cognitive impairment显示文摘Background:Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging studies using a regional homogeneity(ReHo)method have reported that amnestic mild cognitive impairment(aMCI)was associated with abnormalities in local functional connectivity.However,their results were not conclusive.Methods:Seed-based d Mapping was used to conduct a coordinate-based meta-analysis to identify consistent ReHo alterations in aMCI.Results:We identified 10 studies with 11 datasets suitable for inclusion,including 378 patients with aMCI and 435 healthy controls.This meta-analysis identified significant ReHo alterations in patients with aMCI relative to healthy controls,mainly within the default mode network(DMN)(bilateral posterior cingulate cortex[PCC],right angular gyrus,bilateral middle temporal gyri,and left parahippocampal gyrus/hippocampus),executive control network(right superior parietal lobule and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex),visual network(right lingual gyrus and left middle occipital gyrus),and sensorimotor network(right paracentral lobule/supplementary motor area,right postcentral gyrus and left posterior insula).Significant heterogeneity of ReHo alterations in the bilateral PCC,left parahippocampal gyrus/hippocampus,and right superior parietal lobule/angular gyrus was observed.Exploratory meta-regression analyses indicated that general cognitive function,gender distribution,age,and education level partially contributed to this heterogeneity.Conclusions:This study provides provisional evidence that aMCI is associated with abnormal ReHo within the DMN,executive control network,visual network,and sensorimotor network.These local functional connectivity alterations suggest coexistence of functional deficits and compensation in these networks.These findings contribute to the modeling of brain functional connectomes and to a better understanding of the neural substrates of aMCI.Confounding factors merit much attention and warrant future investigations. | Dan Zheng Wei Xia Zhong Quan Yi Pan Wen Zhao Jian Guo Zhong Hai Cun Shi Hua Liang Li Zhen Yu Dai Ping Lei Pan | 2018 | Translational Neurodegeneration2018,7,1: | 5 |
| 14 | Childhood BMI and Adult Obesity in a Chinese Sample:A 13-Year Follow-up Study显示文摘Objective Obesity is recognized as a significant risk factor for diabetes and hypertension. The present study aimed to examine the associations between adults' obesity risk and childhood and parental obesity. Methods A total of 204 children aged 6-17 years were recruited in 2002 with an average follow-up period of 13.2 years. Height and body weight were measured by trained staffs. Overweight and obesity were defined based on the Chinese standard for children and adults. T-test, analysis of variance, and Chi-square analysis were used for single factor analysis. Multiple linear and logistic regression analyses were used to perform multifactor analysis. Results The percentage of non-obese children who grew up to be non-obese adults was 62.6%, and that of obese children who grew up to be obese adults was 80.0%. There was a significant association between childhood body mass index(BMI) and adulthood BMI with a β regression coefficient of 3.76 [95% confidence interval(CI): 1.36-6.16], and between childhood obesity and adulthood obesity with an odds ratio of 5.76(95% CI: 1.37-24.34). There was no statistical difference between parental obesity at baseline and children's adulthood obesity, after adjustment of confounders. Male participants and those aged 10.0-13.0 years had a higher risk of adulthood obesity with odds ratios of 2.50(95% CI: 1.12-5.26) and 3.62(95% CI: 1.17-11.24), respectively. | 16 | The role of β18-β19 loop structure in insecticidal activity of Cry1Ac toxin from Bacillus thuringiensis显示文摘The β18-β19 loop in domain III of Cry1Ac toxin is unique among Bacillus thuringiensis Cry proteins. In this study, the role of the loop structure in insecticidal activity of Cry1Ac toxin was investigated. Alanine scanning mutations within the loop were initially generated and most mutants were over-expressed and reduced toxicity at different degrees, except mutant N546A that showed almost 2 times enhanced toxicity against Helicoverpa armigera larvae. Further mutagenic analysis of N546 revealed that a charged amino acid in this position would cause very unfavorable influence on insecticidal activity. In addition, the deletion of N546 led to protein instability because of destruction of the loop integrity. Besides, mutant W544F was much more toxic than W544Y, indicating that hydrophobic nature of the position was important for maintaining the stability and activity of Cry1Ac protein. | 19 | Tracking with nonlinear measurement model by coordinate rotation transformation显示文摘A new filtering method is proposed to accurately estimate target state via decreasing the nonlinearity between radar polar measurements(or spherical measurements in three-dimensional(3D) radar) and target position in Cartesian coordinate. The degree of linearity is quantified here by utilizing correlation coefficient and Taylor series expansion. With the proposed method, the original measurements are converted from polar or spherical coordinate to a carefully chosen Cartesian coordinate system that is obtained by coordinate rotation transformation to maximize the linearity degree of the conversion function from polar/spherical to Cartesian coordinate. Then the target state is filtered along each axis of the chosen Cartesian coordinate. This method is compared with extended Kalman filter(EKF), Converted Measurement Kalman filter(CMKF), unscented Kalman filter(UKF) as well as Decoupled Converted Measurement Kalman filter(DECMKF).
