| 2 | A meta-analysis of lamivudine for interruption of mother-to-child transmission of hepatitis B virus显示文摘AIM:To determine the therapeutic effect of lamivudine in late pregnancy for the interruption of motherto-child transmission(MTCT) of hepatitis B virus(HBV).METHODS:Studies were identified by searching available databases up to January 2011.Inclusive criteria were HBV-carrier mothers who had been involved in randomized controlled clinical trials(RCTs) with lamivudine treatment in late pregnancy,and newborns or infants whose serum hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg),hepatitis B e antigen(HBeAg) or HBV DNA had been documented.The relative risks(RRs) for interruption of MTCT as indicated by HBsAg,HBV DNA or HBeAg of newborns or infants were calculated with 95% confidence interval(CI) to estimate the efficacy of lamivudine treatment.RESULTS:Fifteen RCTs including 1693 HBV-carrier mothers were included in this meta-analysis.The overall RR was 0.43(95% CI,0.25-0.76;8 RCTs;Pheterogeneity = 0.04) and 0.33(95% CI,0.23-0.47;6 RCTs;Pheterogeneity = 0.93) indicated by newborn HBsAg or HBV DNA.The RR was 0.33(95% CI,0.21-0.50;6 RCTs;Pheterogeneity = 0.46) and 0.32(95% CI,0.20-0.50;4 RCTs;Pheterogeneity = 0.33) indicated by serum HBsAg or HBV DNA of infants 6-12 mo after birth.The RR(lamivudine vs hepatitis B immunoglobulin) was 0.27(95% CI,0.16-0.46;5 RCTs;Pheterogeneity = 0.94) and 0.24(95% CI,0.07-0.79;3 RCTs;P heterogeneity = 0.60) indicated by newborn HBsAg or HBV DNA,respectively.In the mothers with viral load < 106 copies/mL after lamivudine treatment,the efficacy(RR,95% CI) was 0.33,0.21-0.53(5 RCTs;Pheterogeneity = 0.82) for the interruption of MTCT,however,this value was not significant if maternal viral load was > 106 copies/mL after lamivudine treatment(P = 0.45,2 RCTs),as indicated by newborn serum HBsAg.The RR(lamivudine initiated from 28 wk of gestation vs control) was 0.34(95% CI,0.22-0.52;7 RCTs;Pheterogeneity = 0.92) and 0.33(95% CI,0.22-0.50;5 RCTs;Pheterogeneity = 0.86) indicated by newborn HBsAg or HBV DNA.The incidence of adverse effects of lamivudine was not higher in the mothers than in controls(P = 0.97).Only one study reported side effects of lamivudine in newborns.CONCLUSION:Lamivudine treatment in HBV carriermothers from 28 wk of gestation may interrupt MTCT of HBV efficiently.Lamivudine is safe and more efficient than hepatitis B immunoglobulin in interrupting MTCT.HBV MTCT might be interrupted efficiently if maternal viral load is reduced to < 106 copies/mL by lamivudine treatment. | Lei Han Hong-Wei Zhang Jia-Xin Xie Qi Zhang Hong-Yang Wang Guang- Wen Cao | 2011 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,38: | 61 |

| 4 | Potential Role of Feldspathic Sandstone as a Natural Water Retaining Agent in Mu Us Sandy Land,Northwest China显示文摘This paper analyzed the water-retention mechanism of feldspathic sandstone(fine-(<1 mm diam.)and gravel-sized(2-3 cm diam.)in Mu Us Sandy Land,Northwest China.The objective of this study is to study the effect of feldspathic sandstone amendment on water retention in sandy land.The results showed that as the proportion of fine feldspathic sandstone in the sandy land soil increased,the soil texture changed from sand to silt loam,the capillary porosity gradually increased from 26.3%to 44.9%,and the soil saturated hydraulic conductivity decreased from 7.10 mm/min to 0.07 mm/min.Feldspathic sandstone gravel formed micro-reservoirs in the sandy land soil,playing the role of a′water absorbent′and′water retaining agent′in sandy land.Amendment with feldspathic sandstone can increase water retention in the arable layer of sandy land by 67%.This study provides a theoretical basis for the amelioration of sandy land on a large scale.It can be concluded that amendment with feldspathic sandstone can improve the physical properties of sandy land soil and increase soil water retention. | HAN Jichang XIE Jiancang ZHANG Yang | 2012 | Chinese Geographical Science2012,22,5: | 52 |

It is common in children and adolescents, accounting for 1% to 2% of emergency department visits.Recurrent syncope can seriously affect children's physical and mental health, learning ability and quality of life and sometimes cardiac syncope even poses a risk of sudden death. The present guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of syncope in children and adolescents was developed for guiding a better clinical management of pediatric syncope. | 6 | Chinese expert consensus on cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy for peritoneal malignancies显示文摘Locoregional spread of abdominopelvic malignant tumors frequently results in peritoneal carcinomatosis(PC). The prognosis of PC patients treated by conventional systemic chemotherapy is poor, with a median survival of < 6 mo. However, over the past three decades, an integrated treatment strategy of cytoreductive surgery(CRS) + hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy(HIPEC) has been developed by the pioneering oncologists, with proved efficacy and safety in selected patients. Supported by several lines of clinical evidence from phases Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Ⅲ clinical trials, CRS + HIPEC has been regarded as the standard treatment for selected patients with PC in many established cancer centers worldwide. In China, an expert consensus on CRS + HIPEC has been reached by the leading surgical and medical oncologists, under the framework of the China Anti-Cancer Association. | 10 | Distribution and assessment of heavy metals in the surface sediment of Yellow River, China显示文摘Large amounts of heavy metals discharged by industrial cities that are located along the middle reach of Yellow River, China have detrimental impacts on both the ecological environment and human health. In this study, fourteen surface sediment samples were taken in the middle reach of the Yellow River. Contents of Zn, Pb, Ni, Cu, Cr, Cd, As were measured, and the pollution status was assessed using three widely used pollution assessment methods, including the single factor index method, Nemerow pollution index method and potential ecological risk index. The concentrations of the studied heavy metals followed the order: Zn > Cr > Cu > Ni > Pb > As > Cd. Nearly 50% of sites had Cu and Cr accumulation. The concentration of Cu at the Yiluo River exceeded the secondary standard value of the Environmental quality standard for soils. Comparison of heavy metal concentrations between this study and other selected rivers indicated that Cu and Cr may be the major pollutants in our case. The single factor index indicated that many samples were at high levels of pollution for Cu and Cd; the Nemerow pollution index indicated that the Yihe River, Luohe River, Yiluo River and Huayuankou were polluted. | 16 | Effect of Danshao Huaxian capsule on expression of matrix metalloproteinase-1 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 in fibrotic liver of rats显示文摘AIM: To investigate the effects of Danshao Huaxian (DSHX)capsules, a preparation of traditional Chinese medicine,on the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1),and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) in the fibrous livers of rats.METHODS: Eighty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into normal control group (group A), CCl4-induced hepatic fibrosis group (group B), non-DSHX-treated group (group C), low dose-treated group (group D), and high dose-treated group (group E). Fibrous liver models in rats were induced by subcutaneous injection of CCl4, oral administration of alcohol and high-lipid/low-protein diet for 8 wk. After the models were established, the rats in groups D and E were orally given a low dose (0.5 g/kg) and a high dose (1.0 g/kg) of DSHX daily for 8 wk, respectively.Then, the liver indexes, serum hyaluronic acid (HA) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) were examined. The degree of hepatic fibrosis was evaluated by optical microscopy.Hydroxyproline (Hyp) in the urine was determined, and the expression of MMP-1 and TIMP-1 was detected by immunohistochemical techniques.RESULTS: In groups D and E, the liver indexes, levels of serum HA and ALT reduced and development of hepaticfibrosis weakened significantly. | 18 | A Sand Control and Development Model in Sandy Land Based on Mixed Experiments of Arsenic Sandstone and Sand: A Case Study in Mu Us Sandy Land in China显示文摘Serious desertification caused by human activity and climate change,in addition to water loss and soil erosion related to arsenic sandstone in the Mu Us Sandy Land,lead to severe scarcity of soil and water resources,which causes worse local agricultural conditions accordingly.Many physical properties of arsenic sandstone is complementary with that of sand,arsenic sandstone is therefore supposed to be blended to enhance water productivity and arability of sandy land.Container experiments are carried out to study the enhancement of water holding capacity of the mixture,the blending ratio of arsenic sandstone and sand,and the proper size of the arsenic sandstone particles,respectively.The results of the experiments show that particle size of 4 cm with a ratio of 1∶2 between arsenic sandstone and sand are the proper parameters on blending.Both water content and fertility increase after blending.Water use efficiency in the mixture is 2.7 times higher than that in sand by the water release curves from experiments.Therefore,a new sand control and development model,including arsenic sandstone blending with sand,efficient water irrigation management and reasonable farming system,is put forward to control and develop sandy land so that water-saving agriculture could be developed.Demonstration of potato planting about 153.1 ha in area in the Mu Us Sandy Land in China indicates that water consumption is 3018 m3/ha in the whole growth period.It means that about 61%of irrigation water can be saved compared with water use in coarse sand without treatment.Recycle economic mode and positive feedback of sand resource-crop planting-soil resource are constructed,which changes sand into arable soil and make it possible to develop water-saving agriculture on it.The proposed model will be helpful for soil-water resources utilization and management in the Mu Us Sandy Land. | WANG Ni XIE Jiancang HAN Jichang | 2013 | Chinese Geographical Science2013,23,6: | 13 |

| 20 | Protective effect of recombinant human IL-1Ra on CCl_4-induced acute liver injury in mice显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the effects of positive regulation of recombinant human interleukin 1 receptor antagonist (rhIL-1Ra) on hepatic tissue recovery in acute liver injury in mice induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl 4 ). METHODS: Acute liver damage was induced by injecting 8-wk-old mice with CCl 4 1 mL/kg (1:3 dilution in corn oil) intraperitoneally (ip). Survival after liver failure was assessed by injecting 8-wk-old mice with a lethal dose of CCl 4 2.6 mL/kg (1:1 dilution in corn oil) ip. Mice were subcutaneously injected with 1 mg/kg recombinant human IL-1Ra twice a day after CCl 4 treatment for 5 d. Serum alanine amino transferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels were determined with a commercial assay kit. Serum IL-1β, IL-1Ra levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was used to determine liver IL-1β, IL-1Ra and IL-6 expression during CCl 4-induced acute liver injury. Liver sections were stained with hematoxylin-eosin. A histology-injury grading system was used to evaluate the degree of necrosis after acute liver injury. Proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) staining was used to evaluate the role of rhIL-1Ra in promoting hepatocyte proliferation. RESULTS: Quantitative analysis showed a higher level of IL-6 mRNA expression and reduced serum AST and ALT levels in the livers of the rhIL-1Ra-treated group at the early phase of CCl 4-induced acute liver injury. Histological examination indicated a decrease in centrilobular necrotic areas in mice treated with rhIL-1Ra, and a novel role of rhIL-1Ra in promoting hepatocyte proliferation was also supported by an increase of PCNA staining. All these results, accompanied by a strong survival benefit in rhIL-1Ra-treated vs PBS-treated groups, demonstrated that rhIL-1Ra administration ameliorated the histological damage and accelerated the regeneration and recovery process of the liver.
