1Influence of ginsenoside Rg1, a panaxatriol saponin from Panax notoginseng, on renal fibrosis in rats with unilateral ureteral obstruction显示文摘Total saponins of Panax notoginseng (PNS) have been shown to ameliorate renal interstitial fibrosis. Ginsenoside Rg1, a panaxatriol saponin, is one of the major active molecules from PNS. The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of ginsenoside Rg1 on renal fibrosis in rats with unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO). The rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: sham-operation (n=15), UUO (n=15) and UUO with ginsenoside Rg1 treatment (n=15, 50 mg per kg body weight, intraperito- neally (i.p.) injected). The rats were sacrificed on Days 7 and 14 after the surgery. Histological examination demonstrated that ginsenoside Rg1 significantly inhibited interstitial fibrosis including tubular injury as well as collagen deposition. α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) and E-cadherin are two markers of tubular epithelial-myofibroblast transition (TEMT). Interestingly, ginsenoside Rg1 notably decreased α-SMA expression and simultaneously enhanced E-cadherin expression. The messenger RNA (mRNA) of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), a key mediator to regulate TEMT, in the obstructed kidney increased dra- matically, but was found to decrease significantly after administration of ginsenoside Rg1. Further study showed that ginsenoside Rg1 considerably decreased the levels of both active TGF-β1 and phosphorylated Smad2 (pSmad2). Moreover, ginsenoside Rg1 substantially suppressed the expression of thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1), a cytokine which can promote the transcription of TGF-β1 mRNA and the activation of latent TGF-β1. These results suggest that ginsenoside Rg1 inhibits renal interstitial fibrosis in rats with UUO. The mechanism might be partly related to the blocking of TEMT via suppressing the expression of TSP-1.Xi-sheng XIE Man YANG Heng-cuang LIU Chuan ZUO Zi LI Yao DENG Jun-ming FAN 2008Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2008,9,11:34
2Astragalus mongholicus ameliorates renal fibrosis by modulating HGF and TGF-β in rats with unilateral ureteral obstruction显示文摘Astragalus mongholicus(AM) derived from the dry root of Astragalus membranaceus Bge.var.mongolicus(Bge.) Hsiao is a widely used traditional Chinese medicine. The present study investigated the potential role of AM on renal fibrosis on a rat model of unilateral ureteral obstruction(UUO).We divided 48 Sprague-Dawley rats randomly into 4 groups:sham-operated group(Sham),untreated UUO group,AM-treated(10 g/(kg·d)) UUO group, and losartan-treated(20 mg/(kg·d)) UUO group as positive control.Haematoxylin & eosin(HE) and Masson staining were used to study the dynamic histological changes of the kidneys 7 and 14 d after operation. The expressions of fibronectin(FN),type I collagen(colI),hepatocyte growth factor(HGF),transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1),and α-smooth muscle actin(α-SMA) were analyzed by real-time polymerase chain reaction(PCR),immunohistochemistry staining, and Western blot. Results show that, similar to losartan,AM alleviated the renal damage and decreased the deposition of FN and colI from UUO by reducing the expressions of TGF-β1 and α-SMA(P<0.05),whereas HGF increased greatly with AM treatment(P<0.05).Our findings reveal that AM could retard the progression of renal fibrosis. The renoprotective effect of AM might be related to inhibition of myofibroblast activation, inducing of HGF and reducing of TGF-β1 expression.Chuan ZUO Xi-sheng XIE Hong-yu QIU Yao DENG Da ZHU Jun-ming FAN 2009Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2009,10,5:15

4Human umbilical cord blood stem cell transplantation for the treatment of chronic spinal cord injury Electrophysiological changes and long-term efficacy显示文摘Stem cell transplantation can promote functional restoration following acute spinal cord injury (injury time < 3 months), but the safety and long-term efficacy of this treatment need further exploration. In this study, 25 patients with traumatic spinal cord injury (injury time > 6 months) were treated with human umbilical cord blood stem cells via intravenous and intrathecal injection. The follow-up period was 12 months after transplantation. Results found that autonomic nerve functions were restored and the latent period of somatosensory evoked potentials was reduced. There were no severe adverse reactions in patients following stem cell transplantation. These experimental findings suggest that the transplantation of human umbilical cord blood stem cells is a safe and effective treatment for patients with traumatic spinal cord injury.Liqing Yao Chuan He Ying Zhao Jirong Wang Mei Tang Jun Li Ying Wu Lijuan Ao Xiang Hu 2013Neural Regeneration Research2013,8,5:14
5Meta-analysis of cognitive function in Chinese first-episode schizophrenia: MATRICS Consensus Cognitive Battery (MCCB) profile of impairment显示文摘Background Compromised neurocognition is a core feature of schizophrenia. With increasing studies researching cognitive function of Chinese patients with first-episode schizophrenia (FES) using MATRICS Consensus Cognitive Battery (MCCB), it is not clear about the level and pattern of cognitive impairment among this population. Aim To provide a meta-analysis systematically analysing studies of neurocognitive function using MCCB in Chinese patients with FES. Methods An independent literature search of both Chinese and English databases up to 13 March 2019 was conducted by two reviewers. Standardised mean difference (SMD) was calculated using the random effects model to evaluate the effect size. Results 56 studies (FES=3167, healthy controls (HC)=3017) were included and analysed. No study was rated as 'high quality' according to Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology. Compared with HCs, Chinese patients with FES showed impairment with large effect size in overall cognition (SMD=-1.60,95% Cl -1.82 to -1.38,厂=67%) and all seven cognitive domains, with the SMD ranging from -0.87 to -1.41. In nine MCCB subtests, patients with FES showed significant difference in Symbol Coding (SMD=-1.90), Trail Making Test (TMT)(SMD=-1.36), Continuous Performance Test-Identical Pairs (SMD=-1.33), Hopkins Verbal Learning Test (SMD=-1.24), Brief Visuospatial Memory Test (SMD=-1.18), Mazes (SMD=-1.16), Category Fluency (SMD=-1.01), Spatial Span (SMD=-0.69) and Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (SMD=-0.38). Conclusions Our meta-analysis demonstrates that Chinese patients with FES show neurocognitive deficits across all seven MCCB cognitive domains and all nine subtests, particularly in two neurocognitive domains: speed of processing and attention/vigilance, with the least impairment shown in social cognition. Symbol Coding and TMT may be the most sensitive tests to detect cognitive deficit in Chinese patients with FES.Huijuan Zhang Yao Wang Yuliang Hu Yikang Zhu Tian hong Zhang Jijun Wang Ke Ma Chuan Shi Xin Yu Chunbo Li 2019General Psychiatry2019,32,3:13

8Multiscale nanowire-microfluidic hybrid strain sensors with high sensitivity and stretchability显示文摘Nanomaterials with low-dimensional morphology have been explored for enhancing the performance of strain sensors, but it remains difficult to achieve high stretchability and sensitivity simultaneously. In this work,a composite structure strain sensor based on nanomaterials and conductive liquid is designed, demonstrated, and engineered. The nanowire-microfluidic hybrid(NMH)strain sensor responds to multiscale strains from 4%to over 400%,with a high sensitivity and durability under small strain.Metal nanowires and carbon nanotubes are used to fabricate the NMH strain sensors, which simultaneously exhibit record-high average gauge factors and stretchability, far better than the conventional nanowire devices.Quantitative modeling of the electrical characteristics reveals that the effective conductivity percolation through the hybrid structures is the key to achieving high gauge factors for multiscale sensing. The sensors can operate at low voltages and are capable of responding to various mechanical deformations. When fixed on human skin, the sensors can monitor large-scale deformations(skeleton motion)and small-scale deformations(facial expressions and pulses). The sensors are also employed in multichannel, interactive electronic system for wireless control of robotics.Such demonstrations indicate the potential of the sensors as wearable detectors for human motion or as bionic ligaments in soft robotics.Songjia Han Chunrui Liu Huihua Xu Dongyuan Yao Kanghong Yan Huanliang Zheng Hui-Jiuan Chen Xuchun Gui Sheng Chu Chuan Liu 2018npj Flexible Electronics2018,2,1:6
9Additivity of pore structural parameters of granular activated carbons derived from different coals and their blends显示文摘A series of granular activated carbons(GACs) were prepared by briquetting method from Chinese coals of different ranks and their blends, with coal pitch as the binder.Pore structural parameters including BET specific surface area(SBET),total pore volume(VT) and average pore diameter(da) were measured and calculated as well as process parameters such as yield of char(CY) and burn-off(B).The relationship between the pore structural parameters of the GAC from coal blend(BC-GAC) and the ones of the GACs from corresponding single coals(SC-GACs) was analyzed,in which an index, the relative error(d),was presented to define the bias between fitted values and experimental values of these parameters of the BC-GACs.The results show that the BC-GAC keeps qualitatively the pore structural features of the SC-GACs;as concerned as the quantitative relationship, the pore structural parameters of the BC-GAC from coal blend consisting of non-caking coals can be obtained by adding proportionally the pore structural parameters of the SC-GACs with d less than 10%.Meanwhile,for the BC-GAC from coal blend containing weak caking bituminous coal, the d increases up to 25% and the experimental pore size distribution differs greatly from the fitted one.Yao Xin Xie Qiang Yang Chuan Zhang Bo Wan Chaoran Cui Shanshan 2016International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2016,26,4:6

11Stochastic fluctuations of permittivity coupling regulate seizure dynamics in partial epilepsy显示文摘Partial epilepsy is characterized by recurrent seizures that arise from a localized pathological brain region. During the onset of partial epilepsy, the seizure evolution commonly exhibits typical timescale separation phenomenon. This timescale separation behavior can be mimicked by a paradigmatic model termed as Epileptor, which consists of coupled fast-slow neural populations via a permittivity variable. By incorporating permittivity noise into the Epileptor model, we show here that stochastic fluctuations of permittivity coupling participate in the modulation of seizure dynamics in partial epilepsy. In particular, introducing a certain level of permittivity noise can make the model produce more comparable seizure-like events that capture the temporal variability in realistic partial seizures. Furthermore, we observe that with the help of permittivity noise our stochastic Epileptor model can trigger the seizure dynamics even when it operates in the theoretical nonepileptogenic regime. These findings establish a deep mechanistic understanding on how stochastic fluctuations of permittivity coupling shape the seizure dynamics in partial epilepsy, and provide insightful biological implications.GUO DaQing XIA Chuan WU ShengDun ZHANG TianJiao ZHANG YangSong XIA Yang YAO DeZhong 2017Science China(Technological Sciences)2017,60,7:3
12Extension Protocol for the Investigation on Nutrition Status and Clinical Outcome of Patients with Common Cancers in China(INSCOC)Study:2021 update显示文摘Background Malnutrition is common in patients with cancer, and this adversely affects the survival and quality of life of patients.Chinese Society for Nutritional Oncology issued a multi-center,large-scale,long-term follow-up prospective study, the Investigation on Nutrition Status and Clinical Outcome of Patients with Common Cancers in China(INSCOC study)since 2013.This is an extension to the previous 2013-2020 study protocol. This study still sought to:①address the prognostic impact of nutritional factors and quality of life on cancer patient survival;②describe the overall and cancer-specific incidence and/or distribution of malnutrition and different measurements of patient quality of life. Methods and study design This is an observational,multi-centered,hospital-based prospective cohort study.Data collection will be performed at baseline(within 48 hours after patient admission),during the hospital stay and 30 days after hospital admission.Follow-up will be conducted for 1-20 years after enrollment. The primary outcome will be the all-cause mortality/overall survival, and secondary outcomes will be the length of hospital stay and costs of hospitalization.Study factors will include demographic characteristics, tumor characteristics, information about chronic diseases, hematological measurements(e.g.,red blood cell count, total lymphocyte counts,hemoglobin,albumin,prealbumin,creatinine,C-reactive protein,IL-6),anthropometric measurements(e.g.,height,weight,arm circumference, arm muscle circumference, triceps skinfold thickness, and waist circumference),body composition parameters,PG-SGA scores, quality of life(as indicated by the QLQ-C30 questionnaire),muscle mass(as indicated by the calf circumference),muscle strength(as indicated by the handgrip strength),muscle function(as indicated by the six-meter walking speed test)and physical status assessments(as indicated by the Karnofsky Performance Status scores). This clinical study protocol was approved by local Ethics Committees of all the participating hospitals.Written informed consent is required for each subject included.Discussion This multi-center,large-scale,long-term follow up prospective study will help improve the diagnosis of malnutrition in cancer patients and identify the risk factors associated with adverse clinical outcomes. The anticipated results of this study will highlight the need for a truly scientific appraisal of nutrition therapy in Chinese oncology populations, and finally help treat the potentially reversible elements of malnutrition in cancer patients to improve their clinical outcomes in the future.Hong Xia Xu Chun Hua Song Liang Yu Yin Chang Wang Zhen Ming Fu Zeng Qing Guo Yuan Lin Ying Ying Shi Wen Hu Yi Ba Su Yi Li Zeng Ning Li Kun Hua Wang Jing Wu Ying He Jia Jun Yang Cong Hua Xie Fu Xiang Zhou Xin Xia Song Gong Yan Chen Wen Jun Ma Su Xia Luo Zi Hua Chen Zhi Kang Chen Ming Hua Cong Hu Ma Chun Ling Zhou Wei Wang Qi Luo Yong Mei Shi Yu Mei Qi Hai Ping Jiang Wen Xian Guan Jun Qiang Chen Xiang Hua Wu Jia Xin Chen Yu Fang Lan Zhou Yong Dong Feng Rong Shao Tan Tao Li Jun Wen Ou Qing Chuan Zhao Jian Xiong Wu Min Weng Qing Hua Yao Ya Yin Yu Quan Jun Lyu Hong Qiu Ming Liu Wei Li Han Ping Shi The Investigation on Nutrition Status and Clinical Outcome of Common Cancers(INSCOC)Group 2022Journal of Nutritional Oncology2022,7,2:3
1396-Week Treatment of Tenofovir Amibufenamide and Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate in Chronic Hepatitis B Patients显示文摘Background and Aims:Tenofovir amibufenamide(TMF)is a novel phosphoramidated prodrug of tenofovir with nonin-ferior efficacy and better bone and renal safety to tenofovir disoproxil fumarate(TDF)in 48 weeks of treatment. Here,we update 96-week comparison results. Methods:Patients with chronic hepatitis B were assigned(2:1)to receive either 25 mg TMF or 300 mg TDF with matching placebo for 96 weeks. The virological suppression was defined as HBV DNA levels<20 IU/mL at week 96.Safety was evaluated thoroughly with focusing on bone, renal, and metabolic pa-rameters.Results:Virological suppression rates at week 96 were similar between TMF and TDF group in both HBeAg-positive and HBeAg-negative populations.Noninferior efficacy was maintained in the pooled population, while it was first achieved in patients with HBV DNA≥7 or 8 log10 IU/mL at baseline.Non-indexed estimated glomerular filtration rate for renal safety assessment was adopted, while a smaller decline of which was seen in the TMF group than in the TDF group(p=0.01).For bone mineral density, patients receiv-ing TMF displayed significantly lower reduction levels in the densities of spine, hip, and femur neck at week 96 than those receiving TDF.In addition, the lipid parameters were stable after week 48 in all groups while weight change still showed the opposite trend. Conclusions:TMF maintained similar efficacy at week 96 compared with TDF with continued superior bone and renal safety profiles(NCT03903796).Zhihong Liu Qinglong Jin Yuexin Zhang Guozhong Gong Guicheng Wu Lvfeng Yao Xiaofeng Wen Zhiliang Gao Yan Huang Daokun Yang Enqiang Chen Qing Mao Shide Lin Jia Shang Huanyu Gong Lihua Zhong Huafa Yin Fengmei Wang Peng Hu Qiong Wu Chao Pan Wen Jia Chuan Li Chang’an Sun Junqi Niu Jinlin Hou TMF Study Group 2023Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2023,11,3:3
14Evolution of electromechanical properties in Fe-doped(Pb,Sr)(Zr,Ti)O_(3) piezoceramics显示文摘Defects in acceptor-doped perovskite piezoelectric materials have a significant impact on their electrical properties.Herein, the defect mediated evolution of piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties of Fe-doped(Pb,Sr)(Zr,Ti)O_(3)(PSZT-Fe)piezoceramics with different treatments, including quenching,aging,de-aging,and poling, was investigated systematically.Oxygen vacancies with a cubic symmetry are preserved in the quenched PSZT-Fe ceramics, rendering them robust ferroelectric behaviors. In the aged PSZT-Fe polycrystals, defect dipole between Fe dopant and oxygen vacancy has the same orientation with spontaneous polarization Ps,which enables the reversible domain switching and hence leads to the emergence of pinched polarization hysteresis and recoverable strain effect. And the defect dipoles can be gradually disrupted by bipolar electric field cycling, once again endowing the aged materials with representative ferroelectric properties. For the poled PSZT-Fe polycrystals, the defect dipoles are reoriented to be parallel to the applied poling field, and an internal bias field aligning along the same direction emerges simultaneously, being responsible for asymmetric hysteresis loops.Chuan CHEN Yan WANG Zong-Yue LI Chun LIU Wen GONG Qing TAN Bing HAN Fang-Zhou YAO Ke WANG 2021Journal of Advanced Ceramics2021,10,3:2
15Experimental investigations of granular shape effects on the generation of electrostatic charge显示文摘In solid processing systems, electrostatic problems are commonly observed for granules of various shapes. However,a complete understanding of the basic dependence of electrostatic charge generation on particle shape has yet to be established. This observation motivated the present study on examining the effect of granular shape on electrostatics. In this study, polyvinyl chloride(PVC) granules(diameter 1.1-4.1 mm,in the shape of a triangle or trapezium) were first discharged to remove any residual charges and subsequently their electrostatic charging characteristics were studied by allowing a granule to slide along a pipe wall.Several factors such as granular front-facing angle,length-ratio,sliding area, sliding orientation, sliding times, and relative humidity were considered when studying their effects on the electrostatic charging of granules. It was found that triangular granules with smaller front-facing angles tended to generate more electrostatic charge. The amount of electrostatic charge increased with granular lengthratio and sliding area but decreased with humidity. In addition, granular sliding in the orientation of the front-facing angle(for triangular granules) or the short side(for trapezoidal granules) generated more electrostatic charge than that in the orientation of the long side. For both granule shapes, the electrostatic charge increased with granular sliding times and reached a saturated state after around 8-9 sliding movements. The saturated electrostatic charge increased with either granular length ratio or sliding area.Jun Yao Jiejie Wu Yanlin Zhao Eldin Wee Chuan Lim Peigen Cao Fang Zhou Chi-Hwa Wang Ning Li 2014Particuology2014,12,4:2

17Plate-like carbon-supported Fe_(3)C nanoparticles with superior electrochemical performance显示文摘Iron-based anodes for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)with higher theoretical capacity, natural abundance and cheapness have received considerable attention, but they still suffer from the fast capacity fading. To address this issue,we report a facile synthesis of plate-like carbonsupported Fe_(3)C nanoparticles through chemical blowing/carbonization under calcination. The ultrafine Fe_(3)C nanoparticles are prone to be oxidized when exposing in air;thus,Fe_(3)C/C with mild oxidization and the fully oxidized product of Fe_(2)O_(3)/C are successfully prepared by controlling the oxidization condition. When applied as an anode material in LIB,the Fe_(3)C/C electrode demonstrates excellent cycle stability(826 mAh·g^(-1)after 120 cycles under 500 mA·g^(-1))and rate performance(410.6 mAh·g^(-1) under 2 A·g^(-1)),compared with the Fe_(2)O_(3)/C counterpart. The enhanced electrochemical performance can be ascribed to the synergetic effect of the Fe_(3)C with mild oxidation and the unique hierarchical structure of plate-like carbon decorated with Fe_(3)C catalyst.More importantly, this work may offer new approaches to synthesize other transition metal(e.g.,Co,Ni)-based anode material by replacing the precursor ingredient.Chuan Chen Sen Qian Tian-Hao Yao Jing-Hong Guo Hong-Kang Wang 2021Rare Metals2021,40,6:2
18Raman spectroscopy as process analytical tool in downstream processing of biotechnology显示文摘Downstream processing or product recovery plays a vital role in the development of bioprocesses. To improve the bioprocess efficiency, some unconventional methods are much required. The continuous manufacturing in downstream processing makes the Process Analytical Technologies(PATs)as an important tool.Monitoring and controlling bioprocess are an essential factor for the principles of PAT and quality by design.Spectroscopic methods can apply to monitor multiple analytes in real-time with less sample processing with significant advancements.Raman spectroscopy is an extensively used technique as an analytical and research tool owing to its modest process form,non-destructive,non-invasive optical molecular spectroscopic imaging with computer-based analysis.Generally, its application is essential for the analysis and characterization of biological samples, and it is easy to operate with minimal sample. The innovation on various types of enhanced Raman spectroscopy was designed to enhance the Raman analytical technique.Raman spectroscopy could couple with chemometrics to provide reliable alternative analysis method of downstream process analysis. Thus, this review aims to provide useful insight on the application of Raman spectroscopy for PAT in downstream processing of biotechnology and Raman data analysis in biological fields.Yu Kiat Lin Hui Yi Leong Tau Chuan Ling Dong-Qiang Lin Shan-Jing Yao 2021Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2021,34,2:2
19Blocking CD38-driven fratricide among T cells enables effective antitumor activity by CD38-specific chimeric antigen receptor T cells显示文摘Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell(CAR T) therapy is a kind of effective cancer immunotherapy. However, designing CARs remains a challenge because many targetable antigens are shared by T cells and tumor cells. This shared expression of antigens can cause CAR T cell fratricide. CD38-targeting approaches(e.g.,daratumumab) have been used in clinical therapy and have shown promising results. CD38 is a kind of surface glycoprotein present in a variety of cells, such as T lymphocytes and tumor cells. It was previously reported that CD38-based CAR T cells may undergo apoptosis or T cell-mediated killing(fratricide) during cell manufacturing. In this study, a CAR containing a sequence targeting human CD38 was designed to be functional. To avoid fratricide driven by CD38 and ensure the production of CAR T cells, two distinct strategies based on antibodies(clone MM12 T or clone MM27) or proteins(H02 H or H08 H) were used to block CD38 or the CAR single-chain variable fragment(scFv) domain, respectively, on the T cell surface. The results indicated that the antibodies or proteins, especially the antibody MM27, could affect CAR T cells by inhibiting fratricide while promoting expansion and enrichment. Anti-CD38 CAR T cells exhibited robust and specific cytotoxicity to CD38+ cell lines and tumor cells. Furthermore, the levels of the proinflammatory factors TNF-a, IFN-g and IL-2 were significantly upregulated in the supernatants of A549CD38+ cells. Finally, significant control of disease progression was demonstrated in xenograft mouse models. In conclusion, these findings will help to further enhance the expansion, persistence and function of anti-CD38 CAR T cells in subsequent clinical trials.Zhitao Gao Chuan Tong Yao Wang Deyun Chen Zhiqiang Wu Weidong Han 2019Journal of Genetics and Genomics2019,46,8:2
