1SIMULATION OF MAXIMUM LIGHT USE EFFICIENCY FOR SOME TYPICAL VEGETATION TYPES IN CHINA显示文摘Maximum light use efficiency (εmax) is a key parameter for the estimation of net primary pro-ductivity (NPP) derived from remote sensing data. There are still many divergences about its value for each vegetation type. The εmax for some typical vegetation types in China is simulated using a modi-fied least squares function based on NOAA/AVHRR remote sensing data and field-observed NPP data. The vegetation classification accuracy is introduced to the process. The sensitivity analysis of εmax to vegetation classification accuracy is also conducted. The results show that the simulated values of εmax are greater than the value used in CASA model, and less than the values simulated with BIOME-BGC model. This is consistent with some other studies. The rela-tive error of εmax resulting from classification accuracy is ?5.5%―8.0%. 3ABNORMAL FLOWER AND GRAIN 1 encodes OsMADS6 and determines palea identity and affects rice grain yield and quality显示文摘The palea and lemma are floral organ structures unique to grasses;these structures form the hull and directly affect grain size and quality. However, the molecular mechanisms controlling the development of the hull are not well understood. In this study, we characterized the rice(Oryza sativa) abnormal flower and grain1(afg1) mutant, a new allele of OsMADS6. Similar to previously characterized osmads6 alleles, in the afg1 floret, the palea lost its marginal region and acquired the lemma identity. However, in contrast to other osmads6 alleles, the afg1 mutant showed altered grain size and grain quality, with decreased total starch and amylose contents, and increased protein and soluble sugar contents. The analysis of transcriptional activity suggested that AFG1 is a transcriptional activator and may affect grain size by regulating the expression levels of several genes related to cell expansion and proliferation in the afg1 mutant. 6The pleiotropic ABNORMAL FLOWER AND DWARF1 affects plant height, floral development and grain yield in rice显示文摘Moderate plant height and successful establishment of reproductive organs play pivotal roles in rice grain production. The molecular mechanism that controls the two aspects remains unclear in rice. In the present study,we characterized a rice gene, ABNORMAL FLOWER AND DWARF1(AFD1) that determined plant height, floral development and grain yield. The afd1 mutant showed variable defects including the dwarfism, long panicle, low seed setting and reduced grain yield. In addition, abnormal floral organs were also observed in the afd1 mutant including slender and thick hulls, and hull-like lodicules.AFD1 encoded a DUF640 domain protein and was expressed in all tested tissues and organs. Subcellular localization showed AFD1-green fluorescent fusion protein(GFP) was localized in the nucleus. 7Rapid Creation of New Photoperiod-/Thermo-Sensitive Genic Male-Sterile Rice Materials by CRISPR/Cas9 System显示文摘Rice is an important food crop in China, and the development of hybrid rice is a crucial way to increase grain yield. The creation of dual-purpose nuclear-sterile lines for two-line hybrid breeding has become vital for commercial rice breeding. We constructed the pC1300-2 x35 S::Cas9-sgRNA^(PTGMS2-1) expression vector for editing the male fertility gene PTGMS2-1 in two widely compatible rice varieties, 93-11 and Huazhan, by using the CRISPR/Cas9 system. We obtained the marker-free photoperiod-/thermo-sensitive genic male-sterile(P/TGMS) lines in T_1 generation. According to the experiments in phytotron with four temperature and photoperiod treatments, we found the temperature is the main factor for restoring the pollen fertility of ptgms2-1 mutants in 93-11 and Huazhan, and the photoperiod also has some effects on pollen fertility in two different rice backgrounds. 8MULTI-TILLERING DWARF1, a new allele of BRITTLE CULM 12, affects plant height and tiller in rice显示文摘Plant height and tillering are crucial factors determining rice plant architecture and influencing rice grain production. In this study, multi-tillering dwarf1(mtd1), a stable multi-tiller and dwarf mutant, was screened from the ethylmethane sulfonate-treated japonica rice variety Wuyunging7. Compared with the wild type, mtd1 mutant exhibited pleiotropic phenotypes, including dwarfism, more tillers, brittle culms and delayed heading date.By employing map-based cloning strategy, the gene MTD1 was finally mapped to an approximately 66-kb region on the short arm of chromosome 9. Sequencing results showed that the gene LOC_Os09g02650(BC12) in mtd1 mutant had a single nucleotide substitution(G to A), which generated a premature translation stop. Over-expressing MTD1/BC12 coding sequence rescued all the phenotypes of mtd1 mutants including plant height and tillers, which confirms that BC12 is the mutated gene in mtd1 mutant.Quantitative reverse transcription-PCR analysis showed that MTD1/BC12 could negatively regulate the expression of MONOCULM 1, IDEAL PLANT ARCHITECTURE1 and Tillering and Dwarf 1, and control rice tillering. Remarkably, a-amylase activity analysis and gibberellic acid(GA)treatment showed that the dwarf phenotype of mtd1 mutant was dependent on GA biosynthesis pathway. 10Integrated lens auto-focus system driven by a nut-type ultrosonic motor (USM)显示文摘This paper introduces an integrated optical auto-focus system driven by a nut-type ultrasonic motor (USM). The system comprises an optical lens as a rotor (M6 or M7), a polyhedral tube of copper as a stator; an image sensor, and a driver IC of the motor. The sizes of the AF (auto-focus) module are 8.5 mm×8.5 mm×5.9 mm. The piezoelectric elements are bonded on the external surface of the stator. The rotor has external screw thread that engages with the inner screw thread of the stator. When the piezoelectric elements are excited by the driver IC, a bend traveling wave in plane is generated on the stator along the circle direction, that drives the lens rotor to rotate and then to move axially. The driver IC is controlled by an image feedback of an image sensor centered on the axis of the casing, then the optical focusing is realized. The power consumption is zero at rest and is less than 0.25 W in motion; focusing precision <10 μm; speed >3 r/s(180 r/min); response <10 ms; high reliability: resistant to shock and fall off; directly driven by the driver IC without transmission mechanism; the friction force is namely the driving force and noiseless. The integrated optical auto-focus system is very useful, especially for cellular phones. 11Conspicuous cruciform silk decorations deflect avian predator attacks显示文摘Although camouflage as an effective antipredator defense strategy is widespread across animals,highly conspicuous color patterning is not uncommon either.Many orb-web spiders adorn their webs with extra bright white silk.These conspicuous decorations are hypothesized to deter predators by warning the presence of sticky webs,camouflaging spiders,acting as a decoy,or intimidating predators by their apparent size.The decorations may also deflect predator attacks from spiders.However,empirical evidence for this deflection function remains limited.Here,we tested this hypothesis using the X-shaped silk cruciform decorations built by females of Argiope minuta.We employed visual modeling to quantify the conspicuousness of spiders and decorations from a perspective of avian predators.Then,we determined actual predation risk on spiders using naïve chicks as predators.Spider bodies and decorations were conspicuous against natural backgrounds to the avian visual systems.Chicks attacked the spider main bodies significantly less frequently on the decorated webs than on the undecorated webs,thus reducing predation risk.When both spiders and decorations were present,chicks also attacked the spider main bodies and their legs or decorations,and not randomly:they attacked the legs or decorations sooner and more frequently than they attacked the main bodies,independent of the ratio of the surface area between the decoration and spider size.Despite the increase in detectability,incorporating a conspicuous cruciform decoration to the web effectively defends the spider by diverting the attack toward the decoration or leg,but not by camouflaging or intimidating,thus,supporting the deflection hypothesis.Bingjun WANG Long YU Nina MA Zengtao ZHANG Deyong GONG Rui LIU Daiqin LI Shichang ZHANG 2022Integrative Zoology2022,17,5:1

14A nut-type ultrasonic motor and its application in the focus system显示文摘This article reports a screw-driven polyhedron linear ultrasonic motor(USM) of nut-type.It is comprised of a stator,which is a threaded metal nut bonded with piezoelectric plates on its external surface,and a rotor with external threads,which engage with the internal threads of the stator.A traveling wave in the plane is stimulated on the stator when harmonic electric signals are applied to the piezoelectric plates.The traveling wave drives the rotor to rotate,and the threads transform the rotation into a linear motion.The lens can be fixed in the rotor and realize the integrated design of the auto focus system.This structure can omit retarder and directly drive to obtain a high accuracy of positioning,and it is shockproof.A mini AF cellular phone module(8.5 mm×8.5 mm×5.9 mm) driven by this motor was made and an image resolution of 3-5 MP was obtained in the module prototypes of the cellular phone.ZHOU TieYing ZHANG Yun CHEN Yu LU CunYue FU DeYong LI Yi HU XiaoPing 2009Chinese Science Bulletin2009,54,20:1

18Rationale and Study Design for Evaluating the Efficacy and Safety of Intracardiac Echocardiography-Guided Minimal-Fluoroscopy Ablation in Patients with Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation:A Non-Inferior,Multi-Center,Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial(PAF-ICE Trial)显示文摘The feasibility and safety of intracardiac echocardiography(ICE)-guided catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation(AF)using a minimal/zero-fluoroscopy approach have recently been reported.This approach helps to reduce ionizing radiation exposure and orthopedic complications resulting from using lead aprons.The objectives of this planned prospective,multicenter randomized controlled trial(RCT)(paroxysmal AF(PAF)-ICE trial;ChiCTR2000033624)are to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ICE-guided minimal-fluoroscopy ablation in patients with PAF and the impact on occupational hazards among lab staff.Patients will be randomized in a 1:1 ratio to 2 groups:minimal fluoroscopy group(n=216)and traditional approach group(n=216).In the minimal fluoroscopy group,an ICE catheter will be used for geometry/anatomic construction,transseptal puncture,catheter tracking,and effusion monitoring.Pulmonary vein isolation(PVI)will be performed using an open-irrigated radiofrequency SmartTouch Surround Flow or SmartTouch catheter(Biosense Webster,Diamond Bar,California,USA),and confirmed by a multipolar Lasso or PentaRay catheter(Biosense Webster).In the traditional approach group,an ICE catheter will not be used.Transseptal puncture will be performed under fluoroscopic guidance,with all geometries constructed by mapping the catheters.The primary efficacy endpoint is freedom from AF recurrence(without antiarrhythmic medications)at 12months after ablation.Other endpoints include duration of lead apron use,measures of intra-procedural efficiency,and peri-procedural complications.This RCT will evaluate the efficacy and safety of ICE-guided minimal-fluoroscopy ablation in patients with PAF,also evaluate the benefits to lab staff(regarding reducing occupational hazards)related to this“minimal/zero-fluoroscopy”and“leadless”mode.Ruhong Jiang Xingpeng Liu Jidong Zhang Yu Chen Rui Wang Mengzuo Wu Deyong Long Jia Li Haixiong Wang Jie Fan Weizhu Ju Weili Ge Xu Liu Hai Deng Weijian Wang Pingzhen Yang Ding Li Xiaobo Huang Xiongtao Liu Hailong Tao Paul CZei Roderick Tung Xunzhang Wang Chenyang Jiang 2021Cardiology Discovery2021,1,4:1
