| 2 | Selection and development of representative simple sequence repeat primers and multiplex SSR sets for high throughput automated genotyping in maize显示文摘In the current study, 1900 maize simple sequence repeat (SSR) primers published in MaizeGDB were screened utilizing reference literature, 15 representative Chinese maize inbred lines and 15 Chinese maize hybrids from national regional testing. In total, 500 highly polymorphic primers were identified and used to construct a genetic map. 100 evenly distributed primers, 10 primers per chromosome, were further selected as a set of universal SSR core primers, recommended as preferred primers for general studies. These core primers were then redesigned and used to construct a high throughput multiplex PCR system based on a five-color fluorescence capillary detection system. | 3 | Exotic origin of the Chinese continental shelf: new insights into the tectonic evolution of the western Pacific and eastern China since the Mesozoic显示文摘The effect of paleo-Pacific subduction on the geological evolution of the western Pacific and continental China is likely complex. Nevertheless, our analysis of the distribution of Mesozoic granitoids in the eastern continental China in space and time has led us to an interesting conclusion: The basement of the continental shelf beneath East and South China Seas may actually be of exotic origin geologically unrelated to the continental lithosphere of eastern China. By accepting the notion that the Jurassic–Cretaceous granitoids in the region are genetically associated with western Pacific subduction and the concept that subduction may cease to continue only if the trench is being jammed, then the termination of the granitoidmagmatism throughout the vast region at *88 ± 2 Ma manifests the likelihood of ‘‘sudden'', or shortly beforehand(*100 Ma), trench jam of the Mesozoic western Pacific subduction. Trench jam happens if the incoming‘‘plate'' or portion of the plate contains a sizeable mass that is too buoyant to subduct. The best candidate for such a buoyant and unsubductable mass is either an oceanic plateau or a micro-continent. We hypothesize that the basement of the Chinese continental shelf represents such an exotic, buoyant and unsubductable mass, rather than seaward extension of the continental lithosphere of eastern China. The locus of the jammed trench(i.e., the suture) is predictably located on the shelf in the vicinity of, and parallel to, the arc-curved coastal line of the southeast continental China. It is not straightforward to locate the locus in the northern section of the East China Sea shelf because of the more recent(\20 Ma) tectonic re-organization associated with the opening of the Sea of Japan. We predict that the trench jam at *100 Ma led to the re-orientation of the Pacific plate motion in the course of NNW direction as inferred from the age-progressive Emperor Seamount Chain of Hawaiian hotspot origin(its oldest unsubdued Meiji and Detroit seamounts are *82 Ma),making the boundary between the Pacific plate and the newly accreted plate of eastern Asia a transform fault at the location east of the continental shelf of exotic origin. This explains the apparent *40 Myr magmatic gap from *88to *50 Ma prior to present-day western Pacific subduction initiation. We propose that basement penetration drilling on well-chosen sites is needed to test the hypothesis in order to reveal the true nature of the Chinese continental shelf basement. This testing becomes critical and cannot longer be neglected in order to genuinely understand the tectonic evolution of the western Pacific and its effect on the geology of eastern China since the Mesozoic, includingthe cratonic lithosphere thinning, related magmatism/mineralization, and the mechanism of the subsequent South China Sea opening, while also offering novel perspectives on aspects of the plate tectonics theory. We also suggest the importance of future plate tectonic reconstruction of the western Pacific to consider the nature and histories of the Chinese continental shelf of exotic origin as well as the probable transform plate boundary from *100 to*50 Ma. | 4 | Ulva prolifera green-tide outbreaks and their environmental impact in the Yellow Sea, China显示文摘The Ulva prolifera green tides in the Yellow Sea, China, which have been occurring since 2007, are a serious environmental problem attracting worldwide attention. Despite extensive research, the outbreak mechanisms have not been fully understood. Comprehensive analysis of anthropogenic and natural biotic and abiotic factors reveals that human activities, regional physicochemical conditions and algal physiological characteristics as well as ocean warming and biological interactions(with microorganism or other macroalgae) are closely related to the occurrence of green tides. Dynamics of these factors and their interactions could explain why green tides suddenly occurred in 2007 and decreased abruptly in 2017.Moreover, the consequence of green tides is serious. The decay of macroalgal biomass could result in hypoxia and acidification, possibly induce red tide and even have a long-lasting impact on coastal carbon cycles and the ecosystem. | 6 | Genomic survey of bZIP transcription factor genes related to tanshinone biosynthesis in Salvia miltiorrhiza显示文摘Tanshinones are a class of bioactive components in the traditional Chinese medicine Salvia miltiorrhiza, and their biosynthesis and regulation have been widely studied. Current studies show that basic leucine zipper(bZIP) proteins regulate plant secondary metabolism, growth and developmental processes. However, the b ZIP transcription factors involved in tanshinone biosynthesis are unknown.Here, we conducted the first genome-wide survey of the b ZIP gene family and analyzed the phylogeny,gene structure, additional conserved motifs and alternative splicing events in S. miltiorrhiza. A total of 70 Smb ZIP transcription factors were identified and categorized into 11 subgroups based on their phylogenetic relationships with those in Arabidopsis. Moreover, seventeen Smb ZIP genes underwent alternative splicing events. According to the transcriptomic data, the Smb ZIP genes that were highly expressed in the Danshen root and periderm were selected. Based on the prediction of b ZIP binding sites in the promoters and the co-expression analysis and co-induction patterns in response to Ag^+ treatment via quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR), we concluded that Smb ZIP7 and Smb ZIP20 potentially participate in the regulation of tanshinone biosynthesis. | 7 | Freeze-thaw Effects on Sorption/Desorption of Dissolved Organic Carbon in Wetland Soils显示文摘The effects of freeze-thaw cycles on sorption/desorption of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in two wetland soils and one reclaimed wetland soil were investigated. DOC concentrations added were 0-600 mg/L. Laboratory incubations of sorption/desorption of DOC had been carried out at -15℃ for 10 h, and then at +5℃ for 13 h. Soil samples were refrozen and thawed subsequently for 5 cycles. Initial Mass model was used to describe sorption behavior of DOC. The results indicate that freeze-thaw cycles can significantly increase the sorption capacity of DOC and reduce the desorption capacity of DOC in the three soils. The freeze-thaw effects on desorption of DOC in soils increase with the increasing freeze-thaw cycles. The conversion of natural wetlands to soybean farmland can decrease the sorption capacity and increase the desorption capacity of DOC in soils. | 8 | Nitrogen-doped fluorescence carbon dots as multi-mechanism detection for iodide and curcumin in biological and food samples显示文摘Iodine ion is one of the most indispensable anions in living organisms,particularly being an important substance for the synthesis of thyroid hormones.Curcumin is a yellow-orange polyphenol compound derived from the rhizome of Curcuma longa L.,which has been commonly used as a spice and natural coloring agent,food additives,cosmetics as well as Chinese medicine.However,excess curcumin may cause DNA inactivation,lead to a decrease in intracellular ATP levels,and trigger the tissue necrosis.Therefore,quantitative detection of iodine and curcumin is of great significance in the fields of food and life sciences.Herein,we develop nitrogen-doped fluorescent carbon dots(NCDs)as a multi-mechanism detection for iodide and curcumin in actual complex biological and food samples,which was prepared by a one-step solid-phase synthesis using tartaric acid and urea as precursors without adding any other reagents.An assembled NCDs-Hg^(2+) fluorescence-enhanced sensor for the quantitative detection of I^(-) was established based on a fluorescence“turn-off-on”mechanism in a linear range of 0.3-15μM with a detection limit of 69.4 nM and successfully quantified trace amounts of I^(-) in water samples and urine sample.Meanwhile,the as-synthesized NCDs also can be used as a fluorescent quenched sensor for curcumin detection based on the synergistic internal filtration effect(IFE)and static quenching,achieving a good linear range of 0.1-20μM with a satisfactory detection limit of 29.8 nM.These results indicate that carbon dots are potential sensing materials for iodine and curcumin detection for the good of our health. | Xiaodan Tang Hongmei Yu Brian Bui Lingyun Wang Christina Xing Shaoyan Wang Mingli Chen Zhizhi Hu Wei Chen | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,6: | 11 |
| 9 | Evaluating efficacy of screening for upper gastrointestinal cancer in China:a study protocol for a randomized controlled trial显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and feasibility of screening procedure for upper gastrointestinal cancer in both high-risk and non-high-risk areas in China.Setting: Seven cities/counties, representing three economical-geographical regions(Eastern, Central and Western) in China, were selected as screening centers: three in high-risk areas and four in non-high-risk areas.Participants: Villages/communities in these seven centers regarded as clusters were randomly assigned to either intervention group(screening by endoscopic examination) or control group(with normal community care) in a 1:1ratio stratified by each center. Eligible participants are local residents aged 40–69 years in the selected villages/communities with no history of cancer or endoscopic examination in the latest 3 years who are mentally and physically competent. Those who are not willing to take endoscopic examination or are unwilling to sign the consent form are excluded from the study. Totally 140,000 participants will be enrolled.Interventions: In high-risk areas of upper gastrointestinal cancer, all subjects in screening group will be screened by endoscopy. In non-high-risk areas, 30% of the subjects in screening group, identified through a survey,will be screened by endoscopy.Primary and secondary outcome measures: The primary outcome is the mortality caused by upper gastrointestinal cancer. The secondary outcomes include detection rate, incidence rate, survival rate, and clinical stage distribution. Additional data on quality of life and cost-effectiveness will also be collected to answer important questions regarding screening effects.Conclusions: Screening strategy evaluated in those areas with positive findings may be promoted nationally and applied to the majority of Chinese people. | 10 | Outcomes in refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma:results fromamulticenter real-world study in China显示文摘Background:Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma(DLBCL)patients refractory to rituximab-based immunochemotherapy have a dismal prognosis.However,the definition of refractory DLBCL remains inconsistent and no large cohort study data is available from Asian countries.To validate the definition and outcomes of refractory DLBCL in China,we conducted a multicenter,retrospective cohort study.Methods:The REtrospective AnaLysis of Treatment REspoNse of refractory DLBCL(REAL-TREND)study was performed using real-world data from 8 centers in China.DLBCL patients with curative intent were included in the REAL-TREND dataset.Overall survival(OS)was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared by the log-rank test.Due to heterogeneity in response rates among different centers,the response rates of refractory patients were pooled using random-effect models.Multivariate survival analysis was performed using the Cox regression model.Results:A total of 2778 DLBCL patients diagnosed between January,2010 and December,2015 were enrolled to this study.After validating previous definitions,the SCHOLAR-1 study was most suitable to define refractory DLBCL.The estimated 5-year cumulative incidence of refractory patients was 20%(95% confidence Interval[CI]=18%-22%).After the determination of refractory disease,overall response rate and complete remission rate were 30%(95%CI=22%-38%)and 9%(95%CI=4%-15%),respectively.Patients with either no response to immunochemotherapy or relapse within 12 months after stem-cell transplantation had inferior survival with a median OS of 5.9 months(95%CI=5.5-7.1 months)and 2-year OS rate of 16%(95%CI=12%-20%).International prognostic index score 4-5(hazard ratio[HR]=2.22;95%CI=1.47-3.35),central nervous systemrelapse(HR=1.43;95%CI=1.04-1.97),and best response status(HR=2.68;95%CI=1.42-5.03 for partial remission.HR=5.97,95%CI=3.21-11.11 for stable disease/progressive disease)were independent unfavorable prognostic factors.Conclusions:This is the first large-scale Asian cohort study focusing on outcomes of refractory DLBCL.The definition of the SCHOLAR-1 study identifies patients with homogenously inferior survival,thus is appropriate to select refractory DLBCL.Due to poor clinical outcomes in the rituximab era,patients with refractory DLBCL may be potential candidates for novel treatment modalities. | Shuo Wang Li Wang Jianda Hu Wenbin Qian Xi Zhang Yu Hu Qi Zhu Bobin Chen Depei Wu Chung-Chou H.Chang Pengpeng Xu Xiaoyun Zheng Juying Wei Yao Liu Guohui Cui Yong Tang Yan Ma Haiwen Huang Hongmei Yi Weili Zhao | 2021 | Cancer Communications2021,41,3: | 10 |

| 12 | Outcome of multimodal MRI-guided intravenous thrombolysis in patients with stroke with unknown time of onset显示文摘Objective Intravenous tissue plasminogen activator(tPA)is the standard therapy for patients with acute ischaemic stroke(AIS)within 4.5 hours of onset.Recent trials have expanded the endovascular treatment window to 24 hours.We investigated the efficacy and safety of using multimodal MRI to guide intravenous tPA treatment for patients with AIS of unknown time of onset(UTO).Methods Data on patients with AIS with UTO and within 4.5 hours of onset were reviewed.Data elements collected and analysed included:demographics,National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale(NIHSS)score at baseline and 2 hours,24 hours,7 days after thrombolysis and before discharge,the modified Rankin Scale(mRS)score at 3 months after discharge,imaging findings and any adverse event.results Forty-two patients with UTO and 62 in control group treated within 4.5 hours of onset were treated with intravenous tPA.The NIHSS scores after thrombolysis and/or before discharge in UTO group were significantly improved compared with the baseline(p<0.05).Between the two groups,no significant differences in NIHSS score were observed(p>0.05).Utilising the non-inferiority test,to compare mRS scores(0-2)at 3 months between the two groups,the difference was 5.2%(92%CI,OR 0.196).Patients in the UTO group had mRS scores of 0-2,which were non-inferior to the control group.Their incidence of adverse events was similar.Conclusions Utilising multimodal MRI to guide intravenous only thrombolysis for patients with AIS with UTO was safe and effective.In those patients with AIS between 6 and 24 hours of time of onset but without large arterial occlusion,intravenous thrombolysis could be considered an option. | Jie Zhao Hongmei Zhao Runtao Li Jiangtao Li Chang Liu Juan Lv Yanan Li Wei Liu Dongpu Ma Huaihai Hao Xinguang Xiao Junzhong Liu Yongfeng Yin Rongli Liu Qiaoyan Yu Yingjie Wei Pengyan Li Yue Wang Runqing Wang | 2019 | Stroke & Vascular Neurology2019,4,1: | 8 |
| 13 | Factors that contribute to poor adherence to statin therapy in coronary heart disease patients from Chongqing and measures to improve their therapeutic outcomes显示文摘To assess the efficacy and short-term outcomes of adherence to statin therapy among coronary heart disease(CHD)patients following their hospital discharge,we enrolled 615 CHD patients who were prescribed statins from The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University in China between February 1st and October 31st of 2013.Statin adherence was evaluated by identifying the proportion of patients who remained adherent or became non-adherent to statin therapy over 4e8 months post-discharge from the hospital.The composite outcomes included all-cause mortality and re-hospitalization with cardiovascular disease.We found that 15.9%patients were non-adherent to their statin therapies and that coronary artery stenosis<75%(OR Z 3.433,95%CI:2.191e5.380,p<0.001)and adverse effects(OR Z 2.542,95%CI:1.327e4.869,p Z 0.005)both clearly contributed to poor adherence.The primary self-reported reasons for non-adherence included a lack of knowledge about the benefits of statin therapy(36.7%),the treatment being halted at the advice of their doctor(19.4%),and the difficulty in obtaining statins(12.2%).Non-adherence to statin therapy was significantly associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events(OR Z 1.741,95%CI:1.035e2.929,p Z 0.037).In conclusion,CHD patients with moderate stenosis or adverse effects tended to have poor statin adherence,and this was significantly associated with increased cardiovascular events.We should strengthen education of the importance of statin therapy for both patients and doctors and facilitate the ability of patients to obtain their statin medication. | Guiquan Yu Yingjiao Zhang Ying Wang Guanglei Chang Hongmei Tao Dongying Zhang | 2018 | Genes & Diseases2018,5,4: | 8 |

| 16 | Identification of key factors governing chemistry in groundwater near the water course recharged by reclaimed water at Miyun County, Northern China显示文摘Reclaimed water was successfully used to recover the dry Chaobai River in Northern China, but groundwater may be polluted. To ensure groundwater protection, it is therefore critical to identify the governing factors of groundwater chemistry. Samples of reclaimed water, river and groundwater were collected monthly at Chaobai River from January to September in 2010. Fifteen water parameters were analyzed. Two kinds of reclaimed water were different in type (Na-Ca-Mg-Cl-HCO3 or Na-Ca-Cl-HCO3 ) and concentration of nitrogen. The ionic concentration and type in river were similar to reclaimed water. Some shallow wells near the river bed had the same type (Na-Ca-Mg-Cl-HCO3 ) and high concentration as reclaimed water, but others were consistent with the deep wells (Ca-Mg-HCO3 ). Using cluster analysis, the 9 months were divided into two periods (dry and wet seasons), and all samples were grouped into several spatial clusters, indicating different controlling mechanisms. Principal component analysis and conventional ionic plots showed that calcium, magnesium and bicarbonate were controlled by water-rock interaction in all deep and some shallow wells. This included the dissolution of calcite and carbonate weathering. Sodium, potassium, chloride and sulfate in river and some shallow wells recharged by river were governed by evaporation crystallization and mixing of reclaimed water. But groundwater chemistry was not controlled by precipitation. During the infiltration of reclaimed water, cation exchange took place between (sodium, potassium) and (calcium, magnesium). | 18 | Simultaneously Enhanced Cryogenic Tensile Strength,Ductility and Impact Resistance of Epoxy Resins by Polyethylene Glycol显示文摘Rubbers have been well accepted for modifying brittle epoxies but rubber modified epoxies usually posses lowered tensile strength though enhanced ductility and fracture resistance.In this work,a polyethylene glycol(PEG-4000) is used to modify diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A/methyltetrahydrophthalic anhydride system for enhancing cryogenic tensile strength,ductility and impact resistance.The results display that the cryogenic tensile strength,ductility(failure strain) and fracture resistance(impact strength) are all enhanced for the modified epoxy system at proper PEG contents.The maximum tensile strength(127.8 MPa) at the cryogenic temperature(77 K) with an improvement of 30.1%is observed for the modified system with the 15 wt%PEG content.The ductility and impact resistance at both room temperature and cryogenic temperature are all improved for the modified epoxy system with proper PEG-4000 contents.These observations are explained by the positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy results and scanning electron microscopy results.Moreover,the glass transition temperature decreases slightly with increasing PEG content. | Qingping Feng Jiaoping Yang Yu Liu Hongmei Xiao Shaoyun Fu | 2014 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2014,30,1: | 6 |

Osbeck.] in the world and has lots of distinctive local cultivars.Systematic research on the detection of phenolics and antioxidant capacity of peels of mature local cultivars pummelo fruits is rare.In the current study,phenolic composition and content in peels(flavedo and albedo) of ten Chinese local pummelo cultivars were determined using Ultraviolet Spectrophotometer and High Performance Liquid Chromatography(HPLC),and their antioxidant capacities were evaluated using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) radicals,ferric reducing antioxidant power(FRAP),and 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6)-sulfonic acid(ABTS)methods in the current study.The research not only provides data that support making full use of the resources of Chinese local pummelo cultivars,but also lays the theoretical basis for research of pummelo fruit nutrition and health values.The results showed that the total phenolic(TP)content in albedo was significantly higher than that in flavedo;on the contrary,the total flavonoid(TF) content was lower in the albedo than in the flavedo.C.grandis ‘Hongxinyou' flavedo contained the highest TP contents,C.grandis ‘Liangpingyou 78-8' flavedo contained the highest TF contents,and C.grandis ‘Guanxi Miyou' albedo contained the highest TP and TF contents.Naringenin,hesperetin,diosmin,and gallic acid were the predominant phenolics in the flavedo,whereas hesperetin,diosmin,rutin,chlorogenic acid,and gallic acid were the primary phenolics in the albedo.The flavedo of C.grandis ‘Yubei Shatianyou' and the albedo of C.grandis ‘Dianjiang Baiyou' had the highest antioxidant potency composite(APC) indexes.Overall,the ‘Yubei Shatianyou' flavedo and the ‘Dianjiang Baiyou' albedo are excellent sources of antioxidants and have the greatest potential value for exploitation and utilization. | Lü Zefang ZHANG Zhao WU Hongmei ZHOU Zhiqin YU Jie | 2016 | Horticultural Plant Journal2016,2,3: | 5 |
| 20 | SO_2/Hg removal from flue gas by dry FGD显示文摘To study the mechanism of SO 2 and Hg removal from flue gas, an experimental packed bed reactor was designed to simulate the dry FGD, where a mixture of lime and fly ash in ratio 1:3 w/w was used as the SO 2 and Hg sorbent, and steam at temperature of 100℃ was applied for activation of the sorbent, while the activation time set to 20 min. The experimental factors including the SO 2 /Hg sorbent characteristics, 50% breakthrough time for SO 2 /Hg removal, sorbent packed bed depth and reaction temperature were investigated. The experimental results show that after steam activation, the BET specific surface area and specific pore volume increased from 37.8 to 45.5 m 2 /g and from 0.42 to 0.51 cm 3 /g, respectively. With activation of the sorbent by steam, the 50% breakthrough times of SO 2 and Hg removal increased from 34 to 42 min and from 23 to 45 min, respectively. When the packed bed depth was increased from 5 to 25 mm, the 50% breakthrough times for Hg and SO 2 removal increased from 12 to 52 min and from 6 to 47 min, respectively. With the increase of the reaction temperature, the 50% breakthrough of SO 2/Hg removal decreased accordingly.
