| 2 | Projected impacts of climate change on protected birds and nature reserves in China显示文摘Knowledge about climate change impacts on species distribution at national scale is critical to biodiversity conservation and design of management programs.Although China is a biodiversity hot spot in the world,potential influence of climate change on Chinese protected birds is rarely studied. Here, we assess the impact of climate change on 108 protected bird species and nature reserves using species distribution modeling at a relatively fine spatial resolution(1 km) for the first time. We found that a large proportion of protected species would have potential suitable habitat shrink and northward range shift by 77–90 km in response to projected future climate change in 2080. Southeastern China would suffer from losing climate suitability, whereas the climate conditions in Qinghai–Tibet Plateau and northeastern China were projected to become suitable for more protected species. Onaverage, each protected area in China would experience a decline of suitable climate for 3–4 species by 2080. Climate change will modify which species each protected area will be suitable for. Our results showed that the risk of extinction for Chinese protected birds would be high, even in the moderate climate change scenario. | 3 | Improving the quantification of waterfowl migration with remote sensing and bird tracking显示文摘Accurately quantifying waterfowl migration patterns is pertinent to monitor ecosystem health and control bird-borne infectious diseases. In this review, we summarize the current understanding of the environmental mechanisms that drive waterfowl migration and then investigate the effect of intra- and inter-annual change in food supply and temperature(e.g., climate change) on their migration patterns. Recent advances in remote sensing and animal tracking techniques make it possible to monitor these environmental factors over a wide range of scales and record bird movements in detail. The synergy of these techniques will facilitate substantial progress in our understanding of the environmental drivers of bird migration. We identify prospects for future studies to test existing hypotheses and develop models integrating up-todate knowledge, high-resolution remote sensing data and high-accuracy bird tracking data. | 4 | Effect of casein glycomacropeptide on subunit p65 of nuclear transcription factor-B in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated human colorectal tumor HT-29 cells显示文摘Objective:The effect of casein glycomacropeptide(CGMP)on the expression of NF-B subunit p65 in human colorectal cancer HT-29 cells induced by lipopolysaccharide(LPS)was investigated to explore the therapeutic efficacy of CGMP for human colorectal cancer.Methods:HT-29 cells cultured in 96-well plates were stimulated with LPS for 30 min at the concentrations of 0,0.001,0.01,0.1,1 and 10g/mL.After stimulation,the expression of p65 in HT-29 cells was evaluated by immunofluorescence method.Similarly,HT-29 cells were incubated with 0,0.001,0.01,0.1,1,10 and 100g/mL CGMP for 24 h at the optimal LPS concentration.After treatment with CGMP under the incubation with optimal LPS concentration for 30 min,the protein expression of p65 was analyzed by Western blotting.The optimum culture time was evaluated by incubating HT-29 cells with the optimal CGMP concentration for 6,12,24,48 and 72 h.Results:NF-B-p65 revealed that the highest protein expression was achieved with 1g/mL LPS treatment.Meanwhile,CGMP could inhibit the protein expression of NF-B-p65 in LPS-stimulated HT-29 cells,and the optimal inhibitory effect was observed at a CGMP concentration of 0.01g/mL with 48 h incubation.Conclusion:CGMP can regulate NF-B signaling pathway through inhibiting the expression of its subunit p65,which is beneficial for the further improvement of human colorectal cancer treatment. | Jianmiao Gong Qingsen Chen Yali Yan Guangchang Pang | 2014 | Food Science and Human Wellness2014,3,2: | 5 |
| 5 | Effect of Saccharomyces boulardii and Bacillus subtilis B10 on gut microbiota modulation in broilers显示文摘The gut microbiota plays important roles in animal overall health and productiveness. Balancing host gut microbiota by probiotics has been documented. Our previous study showed that Saccharomyces boulardii(Sb) and Bacillus subtilis B10(Bs) significantly improve growth performance and modulate the intestinal histomorphology in broilers. To increase the knowledge regarding Sb and Bs, this study investigated the effects of these 2 probiotic strains on the gut microbiota in broilers. Three hundred 1-day-old Sanhuang broilers(Chinese cross breed) were randomly divided into 3 groups, each group with 5 replications(n = 20). The control group(CK) was fed a basal diet containing an antibiotic(virginiamycin, 20 mg/kg) and the other 2 groups received Sb and Bs(1 × 10~8cfu/kg of feed) in addition to the basal diet. After 72 d of treatment, pyrosequencing revealed that the bacterial communities varied along the section of intestinal tract in the control and Bs groups, but not in the Sb group. No difference in microbial diversity was observed among 3 groups. The major phyla observed along the GI tract of broilers(particularly in the duodenum and cecum) were Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Proteobacteria, and Verrucomicrobia, which were considered potentially growth performance-related. Bacteroidetes, Proteobacteria, and Verrucomicrobia were observed at a much higher abundance in the jejunums and ileums of the Sb group(P < 0.05). In addition, the jejunal microbial communities formed 3 different clusters at either the genus level or the category of metabolism among the groups, based on the principal component analyses. | 6 | Ground-Based Radar Reflectivity Mosaic of Mei-yu Precipitation Systems over the Yangtze River–Huaihe River Basins显示文摘The 3D radar reflectivity produced by a mosaic software system, with measurements from 29 operational weather radars in the Yangtze River–Huaihe River Basins(YRHRB) during the mei-yu season of 2007, is compared to coincident TRMM PR observations in order to evaluate the value of the ground-based radar reflectivity mosaic in characterizing the 3D structures of mei-yu precipitation. Results show reasonable agreement in the composite radar reflectivity between the two datasets,with a correlation coefficient of 0.8 and a mean bias of -1 dB. The radar mosaic data at constant altitudes are reasonably consistent with the TRMM PR observations in the height range of 2–5 km, revealing essentially the same spatial distribution of radar echo and nearly identical histograms of reflectivity. However, at altitudes above 5 km, the mosaic data overestimate reflectivity and have slower decreasing rates with height compared to the TRMM PR observations. The areas of convective and stratiform precipitation, based on the mosaic reflectivity distribution at 3-km altitude, are highly correlated with the corresponding regions in the TRMM products, with correlation coefficients of 0.92 and 0.97 and mean relative differences of -7.9% and -2.5%, respectively. | 8 | Rapid and accurate detection of carbapenem-resistance gene by isothermal amplification in Acinetobacter baumannii显示文摘Background:Acinetobacter baumannii(A.baumannii)is one of the pivotal pathogens responsible for nosocomial infections,especially in patients with low immune response,and infection with carbapenem-resistant A.baumannii has been increasing in recent years.Rapid and accurate detection of carbapenem-resistance genes in A.baumannii could be of immense help to clinical staff.Methods:In this study,a 15-μL reaction system for recombinase polymerase amplification(RPA)was developed and tested.We collected 30 clinical isolates of A.baumannii from the Burn Institute of Southwest Hospital of Third Military Medical University(Army Medical University)for 6 months and tested antibiotic susceptibility using the VITEK 2 system.A.baumannii was detected based on the blaOXA-51 gene by PCR,qPCR and 15μL-RPA,respectively.Sensitivity and specificity were evaluated.In addition,PCR and 15μL-RPA data for detecting the carbapenem-resistance gene blaOXA-23 were comparatively assessed.Results:The detection limit of the blaOXA-51 gene by 15μL RPA was 2.86 CFU/ml,with sensitivity comparable to PCR and qPCR.No positive amplification signals were detected in non-Acinetobacter isolates,indicating high specificity.However,only 18 minutes were needed for the 15μL RPA assay.Furthermore,an antibiotic susceptibility test showed that up to 90%of A.baumannii strains were resistant to meropenem and imipenem;15μL RPA data for detecting blaOXA-23 showed that only 10%(n=3)of A.baumannii isolates did not show positive amplification signals,and the other 90%of(n=27)isolates were positive,corroborating PCR results.Conclusion:We demonstrated that the new 15μL RPA assay for detecting blaOXA-23 in A.baumannii is faster and simpler than qPCR and PCR.It is a promising alternative molecular diagnostic tool for rapid and effective detection of A.baumannii and drug-resistance genes in the field and point-ofcare testing. | Shuang Liu Guangtao Huang Yali Gong Xiaojun Jin Yudan Meng Yizhi Peng Junning Zhao Xiaolu Li Qin Li | 2020 | Burns & Trauma2020,8,1: | 2 |

| 15 | Effect of Dietary Phosphorus on the Growth and Body Components of Juvenile Synechogobius hasta显示文摘The effect of dietary phosphorus on the growth and body components of juvenile Synechogobius hasta was determined. Different percentages of dietary phosphorus (0.63, 0.77, 0.93, 1.06, 1.22 and 1.36) were tested by feeding the fish (body weight, 15.81 g ± 0.32 g; 20 individuals each group; 3 groups each percentage) at a surplus of 5%–10% above satiation for 35 d. Dietary phosphorus did not significantly affect the specific growth rate, feed intake, feed conversion ratio and protein efficiency rate. Nitrogen retention was found to be the highest in fish fed the diet containing 1.06% of phosphorus; however, this was not significantly different from other diets. Fish fed the diet containing 0.93% of phosphorus showed the highest phosphorus retention; similar phosphorus retention rates were found in fish fed the diets containing 0.77% and 1.06% of phosphorus. Fish fed the diet containing the highest percentage of dietary phosphorus were found to contain the least whole body lipid, lower than fish fed other diets (P<0.05). The protein content increased from 18.59% to 19.55% (although not significant) with the decrease of body lipid content (P>0.05). The contents of the whole body ash, whole body phosphorus and vertebrae phosphorus increased with dietary phosphorus percentage up to 1.06 (P<0.05), reaching a plateau after that. Dietary phosphorus did not significantly influence the muscle components (protein, lipid and moisture). Condition factor and hepatosomatic index were the highest in fish fed the diet containing 0.63% of dietary phosphorus; however, this was not significantly different from those of other diets. The secondorder polynomial regression of phospho- rus retention against dietary phosphorus identified a breakpoint at 0.88% of dietary phosphorus.
