| 1 | Chinese deserts and sand fields in Last Glacial Maximum and Holocene Optimum显示文摘The Last Glacial Maximum (LGM, c. 26-16 ka) and the Holocene Optimum (HO, c. 9-5 ka) were characterized by cold-dry and warm-wet climates respectively in the recently geological Earth. How Chinese deserts and sand fields responded to these distinctive climatic changes is still not clear, however. To reconstruct environments of the deserts and sand fields during the LGM and HO is helpful to understand the forcing mechanisms of environment change in this arid region, and to test paleoclimatic modeling results. Through our long-term field and laboratory investigations, 400 optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) ages and more than 100 depositional records in the Chinese deserts and sand fields were obtained; on the basis of these data, we reconstruct spatial distributions of the deserts and sand fields during the LGM and HO. Our results show that the sand fields of Mu Us, Hunshandake, Horqin and Hulun Buir in northern and northeastern China had expanded 25%, 37%, 38% and 270%, respectively, during the LGM; the sand fields of Gonghe in the northeastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau had expanded 20%, and the deserts of Badain Jaran, Tengger in central northern China had expanded 39% and 29% separately during the LGM; the deserts of Taklimakan, Gurbantünggüt and Kumtag in northwestern China had expanded 10%-20% respectively, compared to their modern areas. On the other hand, all of the sand fields were nearly completely covered by vegetation during the HO; the deserts in northwestern and central northern China were reduced by around 5%-20% in area during this time. Lakes in this arid region were probably expanded during the HO but this conclusion needs more investigation. Compared with the geological distributions of deserts and sand fields, human activity has clearly changed (expanded) the area of active sand dunes at the present time. | 5 | Two SbX_(5)-based isostructural polar 1D hybrid antimony halides with tunable broadband emission,nonlinear optics,and semiconductor properties显示文摘Metal halide perovskites based on MX6(M is metal and X is halogen)octahedra have developed into significant materials,extensively used in many fields,such as solid-state lighting,semiconductor,and nonlinear optics.However,the MX_(5)square pyramid-based hybrid metal halides beyond zero-dimensional(0D)polyhedrons and clusters are rarely reported.Herein,we reported two new isostructural hybrid antimony halides,namely(2cepyH)SbCl4(1-Cl)and(2cepyH)SbBr4(2-Br)(2cepy=1-(2-chloroethyl)pyrrolidine),characterized by 1D polar polyanionic chains formed by corner-sharing SbX_(5)tetragonal pyramid units.Upon photoexcitation at 340 nm,1-Cl shows broad,yellow phosphorescence emissions stemming from triplet self-trapped excitons,as proved by its long lifetime(6.85μs)and the temperature dependences of broadband emission.To our knowledge,this should be the first observation on the broadband emissive properties in the 1D hybrid metal halide constructed by MX_(5)tetragonal pyramid units.Moreover,second harmonic generation measurements show that the nonlinear optical properties of 2-Br(∼3.2×KDP)are superior to that of 1-Cl(∼1.8×KDP).Experimental and calculated data indicate that the bandgap of 1-Cl is larger than that of 2-Br and that the polar inorganic moieties determine their band structures.Our work opens up a new way for constructing broadband emission materials with novel polar frameworks. | Zhikai Qi Yali Chen Huizhi Gao Fu-Qiang Zhang Shi-Li Li Xian-Ming Zhang | 2021 | Science China Chemistry2021,64,12: | 1 |

| 11 | Comparative proteomic analysis of cucumber powdery mildew resistance between a singlesegment substitution line and its recurrent parent显示文摘Powdery mildew(PM)is considered a major cause of yield losses and reduced quality in cucumber worldwide,but the molecular basis of PM resistance remains poorly understood.A segment substitution line,namely,SSL508-28,was developed with dominant PM resistance in the genetic background of PM-susceptible cucumber inbred line D8.The substituted segment contains 860 genes.An iTRAQ-based comparative proteomic technology was used to map the proteomes of PM-inoculated and untreated(control)D8 and SSL508-28.The number of differentially regulated proteins(DRPs)in SSL508-28 was almost three times higher than that in D8.Fourteen DRPs were located in the substituted segment interval.Comparative gene expression analysis revealed that nodulin-related protein 1(NRP1)may be a good candidate for PM resistance.Gene Ontology enrichment analysis showed that DRPs functioning in tetrapyrrole biosynthetic process,sulfur metabolic process and cell redox homeostasis were specifically enriched in the resistant line SSL508-28.DRPs categorized in the KEGG term photosynthesis increased in both lines upon PM infection,suggesting that the strategies used by cucumber may be different from those used by other crops to react to PM attacks at the initial stage.The measurement of hydrogen peroxide and superoxide anion production and net photosynthetic rate were consistent with the changes in protein abundance,suggesting that the proteomic results were reliable.There was a poor correlation between DRPs measured by iTRAQ and the corresponding gene expression changes measured by RNA-seq with the same experimental design.Taken together,these findings improve the understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the response of cucumber to PM infection. | Xuewen Xu Xueli Liu Yali Yan Wei Wang Kiros Gebretsadik Xiaohua Qi Qiang Xu Xuehao Chen | 2019 | Horticulture Research2019,6,1: | 1 |

| 20 | Engineered human spinal cord-like tissues with dorsal and ventral neuronal progenitors for spinal cord injury repair in rats and monkeys显示文摘Transplanting human neural progenitor cells is a promising method of replenishing the lost neurons after spinal cord injury (SCI), but differentiating neural progenitor cells into the diverse types of mature functional spinal cord neurons in vivo is challenging. In this study, engineered human embryonic spinal cord-like tissues with dorsal and ventral neuronal characters (DV-SC) were generated by inducing human neural progenitor cells (hscNPCs) to differentiate into various types of dorsal and ventral neuronal cells on collagen scaffold in vitro. Transplantation of DV-SC into complete SCI models in rats and monkeys showed better therapeutic effects than undifferentiated hscNPCs, including pronounced cell survival and maturation. DV-SC formed a targeted connection with the host’s ascending and descending axons, partially restored interrupted neural circuits, and improved motor evoked potentials and the hindlimb function of animals with SCI.
