1Annual cost of illness of stomach and esophageal cancer patientsin urban and rural areas in China: A multi-center study显示文摘Objective: Stomach and esophageal cancer are imposing huge threats to the health of Chinese people whereas there were few studies on the financial burden of the two cancers.Methods: Costs per hospitalization of all patients with stomach or esophageal cancer discharged between September 2015 and August 2016 in seven cities/counties in China were collected, together with their demographic information and clinical details. Former patients in the same hospitals were sampled to collect information on annual direct non-medical cost, indirect costs and annual number of hospitalization. Annual direct medical cost was obtained by multiplying cost per hospitalization by annual number of hospitalization. Annual cost of illness(ACI)was obtained by adding the average value of annual direct medical cost, direct non-medical cost and indirect cost,stratified by sex, age, clinical stage, therapy and pathologic type in urban and rural areas. Costs per hospitalization were itemized into eight parts to calculate the proportion of each part. All costs were converted to 2016 US dollars(1 USD=6.6423 RMB).Results: Totally 19,986 cases were included, predominately male. Mean ages of stomach cancer and urban patients were lower than that of esophageal cancer and rural patients. ACI of stomach and esophageal cancer patients were $10,449 and $13,029 in urban areas, and $2,927 and $3,504 in rural areas, respectively. Greater ACI was associated with male, non-elderly patients as well as those who were in stage I and underwent surgeries.Western medicine fee took the largest proportion of cost per hospitalization.Conclusions: The ACI of stomach and esophageal cancer was tremendous and varied substantially among the population in China. 2Maize grain concentrations and above-ground shoot acquisition of micronutrients as affected by intercropping with turnip, faba bean, chickpea, and soybean显示文摘Most research on micronutrients in maize has focused on maize grown as a monocrop. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of intercropping on the concentrations of micronutrients in maize grain and their acquisition via the shoot. We conducted field experiments to investigate the effects of intercropping with turnip (Brassica campestris L.), faba bean (Vicia faba L.), chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.), and soybean (Glycine max L.) on the iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) concentrations in the grain and their acquisition via the above-ground shoots of maize (Zea mays L.). Compared with monocropped maize grain, the grain of maize intercropped with legumes showed lower concentrations of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn and lower values of their corresponding harvest indexes. The micronutrient concentrations and harvest indexes in grain of maize intercropped with turnip were the same as those in monocropped maize grain. Intercropping stimulated the above-ground maize shoot acquisition of Fe, Mn, Cu and Zn, when averaged over different phosphorus (P) application rates. To our knowledge, this is the first report on the effects of intercropping on micronutrient concentrations in maize grain and on micronutrients acquisition via maize shoots (straw+grain). The maize grain Fe and Cu concentrations, but not Mn and Zn concentrations, were negatively correlated with maize grain yields. The concentrations of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn in maize grain were positively correlated with their corresponding harvest indexes. The decreased Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn concentrations in grain of maize intercropped with legumes were attributed to reduced translocation of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn from vegetative tissues to grains. This may also be related to the delayed senescence of maize plants intercropped with legumes. We conclude that turnip/maize intercropping is beneficial to obtain high maize grain yield without decreased concentrations of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn in the grain. 3Effect of artificially accelerated aging on the vigor of Metasequoia glyptostroboides seeds显示文摘Metasequoia glyptostroboides is an endangered relict plant native to China that has been widely introduced into many countries and areas around the world. However,its seeds germinate at a very low percentage. Consequently,population regeneration by seed is low under natural conditions, which probably contributes to the endangered status of this plant species. The present study aimed to describe the aging mechanism of M. glyptostroboides seeds. Our objective was to elucidate causes of the low germination rate in an effort to enhance potential for conservation of the species. We used germination tests,relative electrical conductivity and malondialdehyde content determination, ultrastructural observation of embryo cells, and analysis of superoxide dismutase, catalase,ascorbate peroxidase, and dehydroascorbate reductase activities during accelerated aging treatment. 10A Survey on Routing Algorithms for Opportunistic Mobile Social Networks显示文摘Opportunistic Mobile Social Networks(OMSNs)are kind of Delay Tolerant Networks(DTNs)that leverage characteristics of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks(MANETs)and Social Networks,particularly the social features,to boost performance of routing algorithms.Users in OMSNs communicate to share and disseminate data to meet needs for variety of applications.Such networks have attracted tremendous attention lately due to the data transmission requirement from emerging applications such as IoT and smart city initiatives.Devices carried by human is the carrier of message transmission,so the social features of human can be used to improve the ability of data transmission.In this paper,we conduct a comparative survey on routing algorithms in OMSNs.We first analyze routing algorithms based on three social features.Since node selfishness is not really considered previously in aforementioned routing algorithms,but has significant impact on network performance,we treat node selfishness as another social feature,classify and elaborate routing algorithms based on incentive mechanism.To assess the impact of social features on routing algorithms,we conducted simulation for six routing algorithms and analyzed the simulation result.Finally,we conclude the paper with challenges on design of routing in OMSNs and point out some future research directions.Ying Cai Haochen Zhang Yanfang Fan Hongke Xia 2021China Communications2021,18,2:1

12Tumor-targeting intravenous lipid emulsion of paclitaxel:Characteristics,stability,toxicity,and toxicokinetics显示文摘Lipid nanoemulsions are promising nanodrug delivery carriers that can improve the efficacy and safety of paclitaxel(PTX).However,no intravenous lipid emulsion of PTX has been approved for clinical treatment,and systemic safety profiles have not yet been reported.Here we outline the development of a PTXloaded tumor-targeting intravenous lipid emulsion(PTX Emul)and describe its characteristics,colloidal stability,and systemic safety profiles in terms of acute toxicity,long-term toxicity,and toxicokinetics.We also compare PTX Emul with conventional PTX injection.Results showed that PTX Emul exhibited an ideal average particle size(approximately 160 nm)with narrow size distribution and robust colloidal stability under different conditions.Hypersensitivity reaction and hemolysis tests revealed that PTX Emul did not induce hypersensitivity reactions and had no hemolytic potential.In addition,where the alleviated systemic toxicity of PTX Emul may be attributed to the altered toxicokinetic characteristics in beagle dogs,including the decreased AUC and increased plasma clearance and volume of distribution,PTX Emul alleviated acute and long-term toxicity as evidenced by the enhanced the median lethal dose and approximate lethal dose,moderate body weight change,decreased bone marrow suppression and organ toxicity compared with those under PTX injection at the same dose.A fundamental understanding of the systemic safety profiles,high tumor-targeting efficiency,and superior antitumor activity in vivo of PTX Emul can provide powerful evidence of its therapeutic potential as a future treatment for breast cancer.Jun Ye Lin Li Jiye Yin Hongliang Wang Renjie Li Yanfang Yang Yongbiao Guan Xuejun Xia Yuling Liu 2022Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2022,12,6:0
13Unlocking the potential of amorphous calcium carbonate: A star ascending in the realm of biomedical application显示文摘Calcium-based biomaterials have been intensively studied in the field of drug delivery owing to their excellent biocompatibility and biodegradability.Calcium-based materials can also deliver contrast agents,which can enhance real-time imaging and exert a Ca^(2+)-interfering therapeutic effect.Based on these characteristics,amorphous calcium carbonate(ACC),as a brunch of calcium-based biomaterials,has the potential to become a widely used biomaterial.Highly functional ACC can be either discovered in natural organisms or obtained by chemical synthesis However,the standalone presence of ACC is unstable in vivo.Additives are required to be used as stabilizers or core-shell structures formed by permeable layers or lipids with modified molecules constructed to maintain the stability of ACC until the ACC carrier reaches its destination.ACC has high chemical instability and can produce biocompatible products when exposed to an acidic condition in vivo,such as Ca^(2+) with an immune-regulating ability and CO_(2) with an imaging-enhancing ability.Owing to these characteristics,ACC has been studied for selfsacrificing templates of carrier construction,targeted delivery of oncology drugs,immunomodulation,tumor imaging,tissue engineering,and calcium supplementation.Emphasis in this paper has been placed on the origin,structural features,and multiple applications of ACC.Meanwhile,ACC faces many challenges in clinical translation,and long-term basic research is required to overcome these challenges.We hope that this study will contribute to future innovative research on ACC.Han Liu Zhiyang Wen Zihan Liu Yanfang Yang Hongliang Wang Xuejun Xia Jun Ye Yuling Liu 2024Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2024,14,2:0
14The Biological Significance of Multi-copy Regions and Their Impact on Variant Discovery显示文摘Identification of genetic variants via high-throughput sequencing(HTS)technologies has been essential for both fundamental and clinical studies.However,to what extent the genome sequence composition affects variant calling remains unclear.In this study,we identified 63,897 multi-copy sequences(MCSs)with a minimum length of 300 bp,each of which occurs at least twice in the human genome.The 151,749 genomic loci(multi-copy regions,or MCRs)harboring these MCSs account for 1.98% of the genome and are distributed unevenly across chromosomes.MCRs containing the same MCS tend to be located on the same chromosome.Gene Ontology(GO)analyses revealed that 3800 genes whose UTRs or exons overlap with MCRs are enriched for Golgirelated cellular component terms and various enzymatic activities in the GO biological function category.MCRs are also enriched for loci that are sensitive to neocarzinostatin-induced double-strand breaks.Moreover,genetic variants discovered by genome-wide association studies and recorded in dbSNP are significantly underrepresented in MCRs.Using simulated HTS datasets,we show that false variant discovery rates are significantly higher in MCRs than in other genomic regions.These results suggest that extra caution must be taken when identifying genetic variants in the MCRs via HTS technologies.Jing Sun Yanfang Zhang Minhui Wang Qian Guan Xiujia Yang Jin Xia Ou Mingchen Yan Chengrui Wang Yan Zhang Zhi-Hao Li Chunhong Lan Chen Mao Hong-Wei Zhou Bingtao Hao Zhenhai Zhang 2020Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2020,18,5:0
15Development and Application of a High-Volume Recycled Powder Solidifying Material for Waterworks Sludge显示文摘Recycled powder(RP)is produced as a by-product during the process of recycling construction and demolition(C&D)wastes,presenting a low additional value.Using RP-based solidifying material can not only improve its utilization efficiency,but also reduce the cost of commercial solidifying materials.To date,this is the best solidifying material utilized to dispose the original waterworks sludge(OWS)with high moisture contents(60%),and the product could be used to fabricate non-fired bricks.This has become a new environment-friendly technology of“using waste to treat waste”.In this paper,the influence of different particle sizes and dosages of RP on the prepared solidifying material was studied.Besides,unconfined compression strength(UCS),volume stability,chemical composition,and heat of hydration,pore structure of the solidifying material were characterized.Then,non-fired bricks were prepared by using the solidifying material,recycled aggregate,and original waterworks sludge.The UCS and softing coefficient(SC)of the non-fired bricks were evaluated.As a result,the 28-day UCS of the solidifying material with optimal(M30)was 35.40 MPa,which could reach 84.37%of Portland cement(PC).The addition of RP increased the volume stability of the solidifying material.The addition of a large amount of RP reduced the heat flux and cumulative heat release of the solidifying material,while its porosity increased.The UCS of non-fired brick(NF20)in 28 days was 15.19 MPa and the SC after 28 days was 78.35%.In conclusion,the preparation of solidifying material using RP could be a promising approach and has a great potential in disposal of original waterworks sludge.Xiang Deng Sudong Hua Fan Xia Yanfang Zhang Dapeng Guo Xinxing Zhu Defei Zhu 2022Journal of Renewable Materials2022,10,4:0
