| 2 | Liuwei Dihuang, a traditional Chinese herbal formula, suppresses chronic inflammation and oxidative stress in obese rats显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the anti-infl ammatory, anti-oxidative stress, and adipokine-ameliorating effects of Liuwei Dihuang(LWDH), a traditional Chinese herbal formula, in obese rats. METHODS: After 2 weeks of acclimation with free access to regular rodent chow and water, obese-prone-caesarean-derived(OP-CD) rats were fed a modified AIN-93 G diet containing 60% energy from fat. Treatment was performed twice daily by gavage feeding with 500, 1 500, or 3 500 mg/kg body weight LWDH suspended in water(n=12 rats per group). Twelve obese-resistant-CD(OR-CD) rats were fed the atherogenic diet and gavaged with water, and served as the normal control. Blood biomarkers of inflammation, oxidative stress and adiponectin were measured post-sacrifi ce and used to determine the treatment effect of LWDH and assess the suitability of OR/OP-CD rats for studying these parameters. RESULTS: After 9 weeks of treatment, LWDH lowered serum C-reactive protein(CRP) and tumour necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) levels. Serum interleukin-6(IL-6) levels showed a tendency towards reduction, but were not signifi cantly different from the OP-CD control. Liver superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity was increased in response to all three doses of LWDH, while the levels of reduced(GSH) and oxidized glutathione(GSSG) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances(TBARS) were unchanged. Serum adiponectin levels were increased in response to oral administration of LWDH at the dose of either 500 or 1 500 mg/kg body weight. In addition, comparisons between OR-CD and OP-CD rats revealed differential, and for some biomarkers, conflicting characteristics of high-fat diet-fed OP-CD rats in reference to obese human subjects in terms of infl ammatory and oxidative stress biomarkers and circulating adiponectin levels. CONCLUSION: The results show, for the fi rst time, the anti-infl ammatory, anti-oxidative stress and adiponectin-ameliorating effects of LWDH in obese rats. | 3 | Genetic and biological characteristics of the globally circulating H5N8 avian influenza viruses and the protective efficacy offered by the poultry vaccine currently used in China显示文摘The H5N8 avian influenza viruses have been widely circulating in wild birds and are responsible for the loss of over 33 million domestic poultry in Europe, Russia, Middle East, and Asia since January 2020. To monitor the invasion and spread of the H5N8 virus in China, we performed active surveillance by analyzing 317 wild bird samples and swab samples collected from 41,172 poultry all over the country. We isolated 22 H5N8 viruses from wild birds and 14 H5N8 viruses from waterfowls. Genetic analysis indicated that the 36 viruses formed two different genotypes: one genotype viruses were widely detected from different wild birds and domestic waterfowls;the other genotype was isolated from a whopper swan. We further revealed the origin and spatiotemporal spread of these two distinct H5N8 virus genotypes in 2020 and 2021. Animal studies indicated that the H5N8 isolates are highly pathogenic to chickens, mildly pathogenic in ducks, but have distinct pathotypes in mice. Moreover, we found that vaccinated poultry in China could be completely protected against H5N8 virus challenge. The software, RSM-VAT, uses a response surface modeling(RSM) methodology and serves as a visualization and analysis tool(VAT) for three-dimensional air quality data obtained by atmospheric models. The software features a number of powerful and intuitive data visualization functions for illustrating the complex nonlinear relationship between emission reductions and air quality benefits. | 6 | Applicability and Generality of the Modified Grübler-Kutzbach Criterion显示文摘A generally applicable criterion for all mechanism mobility has been an active domain in mechanism theory lasting more than 150 years. It is stated that the Modified Grübler-Kutzbach criterion for mobility has been successfully used to solve the mobility of many more kinds of mechanisms, but never before has anyone proven the applicability and generality of the Modified Grübler-Kutzbach criterion in theory. In order to fill the gap, the applicability and generality of the Modified Grübler-Kutzbach Criterion of mechanism mobility is systematically demonstrated. Firstly, the mobility research background and the Modified Grübler-Kutzbach criterion are introduced. Secondly, some new definitions, such as half local freedom, non-common constraint space of a mechanism and common motion space of a mechanism, etc, are given to demonstrate the correctness and broad applicability of the Modified Grübler-Kutzbach criterion. Thirdly, the general applicability of the Modified Grübler-Kutzbach criterion is demonstrated based on screw theory. | 7 | Phosphorus release potential and pollution characteristics of sediment in downstream Nansi Lake, China显示文摘The research aimed to evaluate present and potential phosphorous pollution due to high sedimentary phosphorus load and release from sediment, when external phosphorus was reduced in downstream Nansi Lake. Pollution load of the sediment and overlying water was investigated. Kinetics and isotherms of adsorption/release of sedimentary phosphorus were studied to determine equilibrium phosphate concentration (EPCo) and release potential. Kinetics of phosphorus adsorption on sediment and release from sediment were well described by both the pseudo-first-order rate equation and the pseudo-second- order rate equation, but more appropriate to the pseudo- second-order rate equation with the adsorption/release capacity more close to the measured values, suggesting that the processes were chemically rate controlled and dependent on adsorption capacity. Soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP) sorption isotherms on sediment were best fitted by the modified Langmuir model indicating a monolayer adsorption. By comparing EPC0 and SRP of water, the status (adsorption, releasing or in equilibrium) of sediment phosphorus could be determined. The sediments at site S l, S3, S4, S5, and S7 where the EPC0s were greater than the SRPs, had a potential to release phosphorus into the water column. However, those sediments at S9, S10, and S 12, where the EPC0s were approximately equal to the SRPs, were in impermanent equilibrium with overlying water in status of phosphorus, the sediments can be likely to release phosphorus to the water column once the equilibrium was broken. | 8 | Influence of B,Al and Nb addition on the glass forming ability and stability of mechanically alloyed Zr-Ni amorphous alloys显示文摘We investigated the influence of minor additions of B,Al and Nb that have representative atomic sizes on the glass forming ability (GFA) and stability of Zr-Ni amorphous alloys during mechanical alloying. The results show that the minor addition of B,Al or Nb does not shorten the initial time of the full amorphization reaction or improve the glass forming ability of the Zr-Ni alloys at a low rotation speed. However,B addition can effectively improve the mechanical stability of the amorphous phase against mechanically induced crystallization. Furthermore,the amorphous phase gradually transforms into a metastable fcc-phase with increasing milling time. The addition of Al and Nb that have similar atomic sizes has a similar effect on the GFA and the mechani-cal stability of the Zr-Ni amorphous phase. | 10 | A prospective study (SCOPE) comparing the cardiometabolic and respiratory effects of air pollution exposure on healthy and pre-diabetic individuals显示文摘Air pollution is known to be a major risk factor for cardiopulmonary disease, but this is unclear for cardiometabolic disease (e.g.diabetes). This is of considerable public health importance, given the nationwide epidemic of diabetes, accompanied by severe air pollution, in China. The evidence so far remained inadequate to answer questions of whether individuals with cardiometabolic dysfunctions are susceptible to air pollution and whether air pollution exacerbates diabetes development via certain biological pathways. In this manuscript, we summarize the results and limitations of studies exploring these two topics and elaborate our design of a prospective panel study (SCOPE) as a solution. We assessed and compared the health effect of air pollution among pre-diabetic individuals and matched healthy controls through four repeated clinical visits over 1 year. Comprehensive evaluation was made to both health endpoints and exposure. The primary biomarkers were assessed to reveal the impact on multiple biological pathways, including glycolipid metabolism and insulin resistance, endothelial function, and inflammation. | 11 | Diagnostic value of negative enrichment and immune fluorescence in situ hybridization for intraperitoneal free cancer cells of gastric cancer显示文摘Objective:To explore the intraperitoneal free cancer cell(IFCC)detection value of negative enrichment and immune fluorescence in situ hybridization(NEimFISH)on chromosomes(CEN)8/17.Methods:To verify the reliability of NEimFISH,29 gastric cancer tumors,their adjacent tissues and greater omental tissues were tested.Our study then included 105 gastric cancer patients for IFCC.We defined patients as IFCC-positive if a signal was detected,regardless of the detailed cancer cell numbers.A comparison of clinicopathological features was conducted among IFCC groups.We also compared the diagnosis value and peritoneal recurrence predictive value among different detection methods.The comparison of IFCC number was also conducted among different groups.Results:A cutoff of 2.5 positive cells could distinguish all benign tissue samples and 97%of malignant tissue samples in our study.Compared to intestinal gastric cancer,patients with diffuse gastric cancer tended to have more IFCCs(6 vs.4,P=0.002).The IFCC counts were often higher in the lymphovascular invasion positive group than negative group(3 vs.1,P=0.022).All IFCC samples that were considered positive using conventional cytology were also found to be positive using NEimFISH.When compared to conventional cytology and paraffin pathology,NEimFISH had a higher IFCC positive rate(68.9%)and higher one-year peritoneal recurrence predictive value with area under the curve(AUC)of 0.922.Conclusions:Gastric cancer could be effectively diagnosed by NEimFISH.The IFCC number found using NEimFISH on CEN8/17 is closely associated with Lauren type and vascular invasion of cancer.NEimFISH is a reliable detection modality with a higher positive detection rate,higher one-year peritoneal recurrence predictive value and quantitative features for IFCC of gastric cancer. | Anqiang Wang Zhongwu Li Qian Wang Yali Bai Xin Ji Tao Fu Ke Ji Yanwen Xue Tingxu Han Xiaojiang Wu Ji Zhang Yingjie Yang Guobin Xu Zhaode Bu Jiafu Ji | 2019 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2019,31,6: | 3 |

Whether animals were depressed was evaluated by sucrose preference test, open field test and forced swimming test. Expressions of toll-like receptor 4(TLR4), myeloid differentiation factor 88(My D88), phospho-nuclear factorkappa B(p-NF-κB), cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2), ionized calcium binding adapter molecule-1(IBA-1) were assessed by immunohistochemical staining and western blotting. RESULTS: Eight compounds were identified from CGZBT, moreover, our results showed that CGZBT effectively reversed the CUMS-induced decrease in sucrose preference, shortened the movement distance and prolonged immobility time. CGZBT significantly increased levels of 5-hydroxytryptamine, dopamine, norepinephrine, 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid levels, and reduced the expression of TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, yet increased IL-4 and IL-10. Furthermore, the expressions of TLR4, My D88, COX-2, p-NF-κB and IBA-1 in hippocampus were effectively reversed after treatment with CGZBT.
