2A deep learning-enabled portable imaging flow cytometer for cost-effective, highthroughput, and label-free analysis of natural water samples显示文摘We report a deep learning-enabled field-portable and cost-effective imaging flow cytometer that automatically captures phase-contrast color images of the contents of a continuously flowing water sample at a throughput of 100 mL/h.The device is based on partially coherent lens-free holographic microscopy and acquires the diffraction patterns of flowing micro-objects inside a microfluidic channel.These holographic diffraction patterns are reconstructed in real time using a deep learning-based phase-recovery and image-reconstruction method to produce a color image of each micro-object without the use of external labeling.Motion blur is eliminated by simultaneously illuminating the sample with red,green,and blue light-emitting diodes that are pulsed.Operated by a laptop computer,this portable device measures 15.5 cm×15 cm×12.5 cm,weighs 1 kg,and compared to standard imaging flow cytometers,it provides extreme reductions of cost,size and weight while also providing a high volumetric throughput over a large object size range.We demonstrated the capabilities of this device by measuring ocean samples at the Los Angeles coastline and obtaining images of its micro-and nanoplankton composition.Furthermore,we measured the concentration of a potentially toxic alga(Pseudo-nitzschia)in six public beaches in Los Angeles and achieved good agreement with measurements conducted by the California Department of Public Health.The cost-effectiveness,compactness,and simplicity of this computational platform might lead to the creation of a network of imaging flow cytometers for largescale and continuous monitoring of the ocean microbiome,including its plankton composition.Zoltán Gӧrӧcs Miu Tamamitsu Vittorio Bianco Patrick Wolf Shounak Roy Koyoshi Shindo Kyrollos Yanny Yichen Wu Hatice Ceylan Koydemir Yair Rivenson Aydogan Ozcan 2018Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1:14
3Bright-field holography:cross-modality deep learning enables snapshot 3D imaging with bright-field contrast using a single hologram显示文摘Digital holographic microscopy enables the 3D reconstruction of volumetric samples from a single-snapshot hologram.However,unlike a conventional bright-field microscopy image,the quality of holographic reconstructions is compromised by interference fringes as a result of twin images and out-of-plane objects.Here,we demonstrate that cross-modality deep learning using a generative adversarial network(GAN)can endow holographic images of a sample volume with bright-field microscopy contrast,combining the volumetric imaging capability of holography with the speckle-and artifact-free image contrast of incoherent bright-field microscopy.We illustrate the performance of this“bright-field holography”method through the snapshot imaging of bioaerosols distributed in 3D,matching the artifact-free image contrast and axial sectioning performance of a high-NA bright-field microscope.This data-driven deep-learning-based imaging method bridges the contrast gap between coherent and incoherent imaging,and enables the snapshot 3D imaging of objects with bright-field contrast from a single hologram,benefiting from the wave-propagation framework of holography.Yichen Wu Yilin Luo Gunvant Chaudhari Yair Rivenson Ayfer Calis Kevin de Haan Aydogan Ozcan 2019Light(Science & Applications)2019,8,1:12
4Role of nitric oxide in the genotoxic response to chronic microcystin-LR exposure in human–hamster hybrid cells显示文摘Microcystin-LR(MC-LR) is the most abundant and toxic microcystin congener and has been classified as a potential human carcinogen(Group 2B) by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. However, the mechanisms underlying the genotoxic effects of MC-LR during chronic exposure are still poorly understood. In the present study, human–hamster hybrid(AL) cells were exposed to MC-LR for varying lengths of time to investigate the role of nitrogen radicals in MC-LR-induced genotoxicity. The mutagenic potential at the CD59 locus was more than 2-fold higher(p < 0.01) in ALcells exposed to a cytotoxic concentration(1 μmol/L) of MC-LR for 30 days than in untreated control cells, which was consistent with the formation of micronucleus. MC-LR caused a dose-dependent increase in nitric oxide(NO) production in treated cells. Moreover, this was blocked by concurrent treatment with the NO synthase inhibitor NG-methyl-L-arginine(L-NMMA), which suppressed MC-LRinduced mutations as well. The survival of mitochondrial DNA-depleted(ρ0) ALcells was markedly decreased by MC-LR treatment compared to that in ALcells, while the CD59 mutant fraction was unaltered. 5New Localities and Palaeoscolecid Worms from the Cambrian(Stage 4,Series 2)Guanshan Biota in Kunming,Yunnan,South China显示文摘The Guanshan Biota from the Cambrian Stage 4 Wulongqing Formation is a typical Burgess-shale type Lagerst?tte that had witnessed the Cambrian explosion. Here we report two new localities of the Guanshan Biota,which is located at Baimei village,south of Kunming and Xinglong village,Wuding County,Yunnan Province respectively. Both localities produce soft-body fossils and several new taxa,e.g. a new species of palaeoscolecidans(Palaeoscolex xinglongensis sp. nov.) reported herein. The comparative study of the new species with similar form not only indicates that there is a diversification of palaeoscolecid species in Guanshan Biota,but also strengthens the ties between the older Chengjiang Biota and the younger Kaili Biota(and also the coeval Burgess Shale community). 6Analysis of oral microorganism diversity in healthy individuals before and after chewing areca nuts using PCR-denatured gradient gel electrophoresis显示文摘To analyze oral microbial diversity in the saliva of 8 healthy individuals before and after chewing areca nuts. Saliva samples were collected before chewing areca nuts, after chewing areca nuts for 5 min and after chewing areca nuts for 30 min. DNA was extracted, and microbial diversity was examined using PCR-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis(PCR-DGGE). When examining DGGE profiles collectively,the bands associated with Streptococcus and Veillonella were the most intense, making them the most prevalent bacteria. Furthermore, the band intensities did not decrease after chewing areca nuts for 5 or30 min; thus, these bacteria were unaffected. However, when examining some individuals, the band intensities for Streptococcus and Veillonella became more intense after 5 min of chewing and then returned to the pre-chewing level. This difference may be attributed to the mechanical movements of the oral cavity or individual differences. 8Spatio-temporal Variation of PM_(2.5) in China from 1998 to 2016显示文摘With the rapid development of China's economy,people's demand for a healthy living environment is increasing,and air quality has gradually been widely concerned by all sectors of society.Using the big data of air quality monitoring from 1998 to 2016,based on the exploratory spatio-temporal analysis method,this paper explored the spatio-temporal evolution of PM_(2.5) at the national scale,and drew the following conclusions:①PM_(2.5) heavy pollution is mainly in central and eastern China,north and south China,and the pollution degree is relatively light in northwest and northeast China.Meanwhile,PM_(2.5) concentration in heavily polluted areas increased significantly over time,while PM_(2.5) concentration in low-polluted areas showed a long-term stable trend.②The number and area of cities with moderate and high PM_(2.5) pollution levels showed an inverted U-shaped curve from 1998 to 2016,and 2007 was the inflection point.③The spatial autocorrelation coefficient of PM_(2.5) is high over the years,and the spatial neighbor effect of PM_(2.5) is significant.The high-pollution clusters are mainly concentrated in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region,the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta,and the pollution concentration in these three regions has increased rapidly in recent years.It is necessary to focus on joint prevention and control.Jianghui WANG Peng ZHOU Yichen LIN Longhao ZHANG Mengyu WU 2022Meteorological and Environmental Research2022,13,1:1

10Efficacy of catgut embedding in Baihui(GV20)and Feishu(BL13)and Pishu(BL20)on lung tissue,brain tissue and blood related indexes in rats with allergic rhinitis of lung deficiency type显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of acupoint catgut embedding for 3 weeks on lung tissue,blood immunoglobulin E(IgE)and interleutin-4(IL-4),brain tissue microglia x-42(OX-42)and toll-like receptor-2(TLR-2)in rats with allergic rhinitis of lung deficiency type.METHODS:Forty-five female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided for two times.The first time,they were randomly divided into model group and blank group(Group C)according to 2∶1,and the second time,the model group were randomly divided into model control group(Group B)and intervention treatment group(Group A)according to 1∶1.15 in each group.For Group A and Group B,the lung deficiency model was made by'sulfur–moxa fumigation',and then the allergic rhinitis model was established by'ovalbumin(OVA)sensitization'.Then catgut embedding was performed at acupoints in Group A and not in Group B.After 3 weeks,collect lung tissue samples for hematoxylin-eosin staining,then take blood to observe the concentration of IgE and IL-4,and finally take brain tissue to observe the results of OX-42 and TLR-2.RESULTS:IgE level(μg/m L)was(3.11±0.20)in the Group A,(4.19±0.44)in the Group B,and(2.29±0.30)in the Group C(all P<0.001).IL-4 level(pg/mL)was(14.2±0.7)in the Group A,(18.6±2.4)in the Group B,and(11.4±1.2)for the Group C(all P<0.001).The mean OD for OX-42 is(0.1728±0.0016)in the Group A,(0.1810±0.0046)in the Group B and(0.1674±0.0025)in the Group C(all P<0.001).CONCLUSION:Although 3 weeks of acupoint catgut embedding already showed obvious efficacy on rats with allergic rhinitis,the allergic reaction in the body still continued.To achieve further treatment,prolonging the catgut embedding time is necessary.HUANG Heyin WANG Yichen ZHANG Qinxiu WU Xiaojuan WANG Jiang Li Xiangyu PANG Rui FAN Li CAO Liu TANG Luo 2023Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2023,43,5:1
11Maternal genetic history of southern East Asians over the past 12,000 years显示文摘Southern East Asia,including Guangxi and Fujian provinces in China,is home to diverse ethnic groups,languages,and cultures.Previous studies suggest a high complexity regarding population dynamics and the history of southern East Asians.However,large-scale genetic studies on ancient populations in this region are hindered by limited sample preservation.Here,using highly efficient DNA capture techniques,we obtain 48 complete mitochondrial genomes of individuals from Guangxi and Fujian in China and reconstruct their maternal genetic history over the past 12,000 years.We find a strong connection between southern East Asians dating to~12,000-6000 years ago and present-day Southeast Asians.In addition,stronger genetic affinities to northern East Asians are observed in historical southern East Asians than Neolithic southern East Asians,suggesting increased interactions between northern and southern East Asians over time.Overall,we reveal dynamic connections between ancient southern East Asians and populations located in surrounding regions,as well as a shift in maternal genetic structure within the populations over time.Yalin Liu Tianyi Wang Xichao Wu Xuechun Fan Wei Wang Guangmao Xie Zhen Li Qingping Yang Peng Cao Ruowei Yang Feng Liu Qingyan Dai Xiaotian Feng Wanjing Ping Bo Miao Yun Wu Yichen Liu Qiaomei Fu 2021Journal of Genetics and Genomics2021,48,10:1

18Highly reconfigurable silicon integrated microwave photonic filter towards next-generation wireless communication显示文摘Integrated microwave photonic filters(IMPFs)are capable of offering unparalleled performances in terms of superb spectral fineness,broadband,and more importantly,the reconfigurability,which encounter the trend of the next-generation wireless communication.However,to achieve high reconfigurability,previous works should adopt complicated system structures and modulation formats,which put great pressure on power consumption and controlment,and,therefore,impede the massive deployment of IMPF.Here,we propose a streamlined architecture for a wideband and highly reconfigurable IMPF on the silicon photonics platform.For various practical filter responses,to avoid complex auxiliary devices and bias drift problems,a phase-modulated flexible sideband cancellation method is employed based on the intensity-consistent single-stage-adjustable cascadedmicroring(ICSSA-CM).The IMPF exhibits an operation band extending to millimeter-wave(≥30 GHz),and other extraordinary performances including high spectral resolution of 220 MHz and large rejection ratio of 60 d B are obtained.Moreover,Gb/s-level RF wireless communications are demonstrated for the first time towards real-world scenarios.The proposed IMPF provides broadband flexible spectrum control capabilities,showing great potential in the next-generation wireless communication.ZIHAN TAO YUANSHENG TAO MING JIN JUN QIN RUIXUAN CHEN BITAO SHEN YICHEN WU HAOWEN SHU SHAOHUA YU XINGJUN WANG 2023Photonics Research2023,11,5:0
19Survey on rain removal from videos or a single image显示文摘Rain can cause performance degradation of outdoor computer vision tasks.Thus,the exploration of rain removal from videos or a single image has drawn considerable attention in the field of image processing.Recently,various deraining methodologies have been proposed.However,no comprehensive survey work has yet been conducted to summarize existing deraining algorithms and quantitatively compare their generalization ability,and especially,no off-the-shelf toolkit exists for accumulating and categorizing recent representative methods for easy performance reproduction and deraining capability evaluation.In this regard,herein,we present a comprehensive overview of existing video and single image deraining methods as well as reproduce and evaluate current state-of-the-art deraining methods.In particular,these approaches are mainly classified into model-and deep-learning-based methods,and more elaborate branches of each method are presented.Inherent abilities,especially generalization performance,of the state-of-the-art methods have been both quantitatively and visually analyzed through thorough experiments conducted on synthetic and real benchmark datasets.Moreover,to facilitate the reproduction of existing deraining methods for general users,we present a comprehensive repository with detailed classification,including direct links to 85 deraining papers,24 relevant project pages,source codes of 12 and 25 algorithms for video and single image deraining,respectively,5 and 10 real and synthesized datasets,respectively,and 7 frequently used image quality evaluation metrics,along with the corresponding computation codes.Research limitations worthy of further exploration have also been discussed for future research along this direction.Hong WANG Yichen WU Minghan LI Qian ZHAO Deyu MENG 2022Science China(Information Sciences)2022,65,1:0
20Efficacy of Zhumian Tang formula granules(助眠汤配方颗粒)combined with eszopiclone for the treatment of poor sleep quality:a multi-center,randomized controlled,superiority trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Zhumian Tang formula granules(助眠汤配方颗粒)combined with eszopiclone for treating poor sleep quality.METHODS:This multi-center,dynamic blockrandomized,parallel-group superiority clinical trial included 130 patients.The combined treatment group received Zhumian Tang formula granules combined with eszopiclone treatment,and the control group received eszopiclone treatment only.The group allocation ratio was 1∶1.The duration of treatment was 2 weeks.Participants were asked to complete questionnaires before treatment,after 1 week of the intervention,after 2 weeks of the intervention,and at the follow-up on week 3.The primary outcomes were the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)score and the total effective rate of treatment.The secondary outcome was the rate of adverse effects.RESULTS:Compared with the eszopiclone treatment group,the PSQI score of the combined treatment group was significantly lower after 2 weeks of the intervention(6.98 vs 8.26,P<0.05).However,there was no significant difference in the mean PSQI score after 1 week of the intervention(9.89 vs 9.15,P=0.124).After the follow-up on week 3,the PSQI score of the combined treatment group remained significantly lower than that of the eszopiclone treatment group(6.12 vs 8.31,P<0.001).The total effective rates of treatment of the combined group and the eszopiclone group were 36.92%vs 35.38%(Z=0.033,P=0.855)after 1 week of the intervention,83.08%vs 58.46%(Z=9.519,P<0.05)after 2 weeks of the intervention,and 83.08%vs 61.54%(Z=7.530,P<0.05)and after the follow-up on week 3,respectively.There was no significant difference in the overall rate of adverse reactions between the combined and eszopiclone treatment groups(21.53%vs 31.8%,P=0.318).CONCLUSION:The combination of Zhumian Tang formula granules with eszopiclone was found to be safe and more effective in improving sleep quality than eszopiclone alone.Traditional Chinese medicine can enhance the effectiveness of Western medicine in the treatment of insomnia.WANG Yichen WU Shiyi WANG Zhengyan CHANG Wenling XIE Zhihao TANG Xing ZHAO Songmei ZHOU Jing CHEN Zehong WANG Chao() YANG Chunxia 2024Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2024,44,1:0
