1Degradation of organic pollutants by a Co_3O_4 -graphite composite electrode in an electro-Fenton-like system显示文摘A novel composite electrode was constructed by pressing together Co3O4 and graphite and it was used as the cathode in an electro-Fenton-like (EFL) system. The poor electron transport characteristic of Co3O4 was overcome by incorporating graphite. In situ electro-catalytic generation of hydroxyl radicals (·OH) occurred at high current efficiencies from pH 2-10, extending the traditional Fenton reaction pH range. Cyclic voltammetry and AC impedance spectrometry were used to characterize the composite electrode. The ability of the EFL system to degrade organic compounds was investigated using sulforhodamine B (SRB) and 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) as probes. Decoloration of SRB (1.0×10-5 mol/L) was complete (100%) in 150 min and SRB was effectively degraded from pH 2-10. The decomposition of SRB was studied using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and total organic carbon (TOC) analysis and results indicated that the final degradation products were carbon dioxide, carboxylic acids and amines. The EFL system also decomposed 2,4-DCP and the degradation was 98.6% in 240 min. Electro-catalytic degradation of SRB occurs by a ·OH mechanism. After 5 times reused, the degradation rate of SRB did not significantly slow down. 2Photocatalytic properties of hierarchical BiOXs obtained via an ethanol-assisted solvothermal process显示文摘In this study, bismuth oxyhalide(Bi OXs(X_Cl, Br, I)) semiconductors were prepared by a simple solvothermal method, with ethanol serving as solvent and a series of tetrabutylammonium halide surfactants as halogen sources. Under identical synthetic conditions, Bi OBr was more readily constructed into regular flower-like hierarchical architectures. The photocatalytic properties of the materials were studied by monitoring the degradation of rhodamine B(Rh B),with visible light absorption, and colorless salicylic acid(SA). It was found that both Rh B and SA were rapidly degraded on the surface of Bi OBr. Bi OCl was rather active for the degradation of Rh B,but ineffective toward the degradation of SA. However, neither Rh B nor SA could be degraded effectively in the case of Bi OI. 3Catalysis of organic pollutant photodegradation by metal phthalocyanines immobilized on TiO_2@SiO_2显示文摘A TiO2@SiO2 hybrid support was prepared by the sol-precipitation method using n-octylamine as a template.The photocatalyst manganese phthalocyanine tetrasulfonic acid (MnPcS) was immobilized on the support to form MnPcS-TiO2@SiO2.X-ray diffraction (XRD) and UV-Visible diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-Vis DRS) were employed to characterize the catalyst.The photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) and the catalytic oxidation of o-phenylenediamine (OPDA) under visible light irradiation were used as probe reactions.The mineralization efficiency and the degradation mechanism were evaluated using chemical oxygen demand (COD Cr) assays and electron spin resonance (ESR),respectively.RhB was efficiently degraded by immobilized MnPcS-TiO2@SiO2 under visible light irradiation.Complete decolorization of RhB occurred after 240 min of irradiation and 64.02% COD Cr removal occurred after 24 h of irradiation.ESR results indicated that the oxidation process was dominated by the hydroxyl radical (·OH) and superoxide radical (O-·2) generated in the system.WANG ShuLian FANG YanFen YANG Yong LIU JunZi DENG AnPing ZHAO XiaoRong HUANG YingPing 2011Chinese Science Bulletin2011,56,10:5
4Mechanism of oxidative damage to DNA by Fe-loaded MCM-41 irradiated with visible light显示文摘The mechanism of oxidative damage to deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) by iron-containing mesoporous molecular sieves (MCM-41) irradiated with visible light was elucidated. Fe-loaded MCM-41 (Fe/MCM-41) was used as a photocatalyst and the damage to calf thymus DNA caused by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was studied. The damage and extent of oxidation of DNA were measured by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and intermediate products were detected by HPLC/electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry. Electron spin resonance was used to detect changes in reactive oxygen species and peroxidase catalytic spectrophotometry was used to determine the concentration of H2O2. The results indicated that Fe/MCM-41 efficiently activated H2O2 in solution at pH 4.0-8.0 under irradiation with visible light. The photocatalytic system degraded DNA most effectively at pH 5.0-6.0 but also operated at pH 8.0. At pH 4.2, the degree of DNA damage reached 25.65% after 5 h and the kinetic constant was 5.89×10 2 min 1. Damage to DNA was predominantly caused by hydroxyl radicals generated in the system. 5Neglected Rural Public Health Issue:The Case of Intestinal Roundworms显示文摘Despite increasing institutional and financial support,certain public health issues are still neglected by the Chinese Government.The present paper examines the soil-transmitted helminth(STH)infection and reinfection rates by conducting a survey on 1724 children in Guizhou Province,China.Our results indicate that 37.5 percent of children had been infected with one or more of the three types of tested STH.However,only 50.4 percent of children reported having taken deworming medicine during the 18-month period before the survey.Of those who reported being dewormed,34.6 percent tested positive for STH infections.Poverty and number of siblings are significantly and positively correlated with infection and reinfection,and parental education is significantly and negatively correlated with infection and reinfection.Given the ineffectiveness of treatment in these areas to date,for anthelmintic campaigns to actually succeed,China must pay more attention to locallevel incentives to improve children's health.Linxiu Zhang Yingping Cai Xiaobing Wang Xiaochen Ma Alexis Medina D.Scott Smith Scott Rozelle 2013China & World Economy2013,21,3:2
6Intrauterine growth restriction alters nutrient metabolism in the intestine of porcine offspring显示文摘Background:Intrauterine growth restriction(IUGR)has negative impacts on the postnatal survival,growth and development of humans and animals,with not only on newborns but also adulthood.However,the characteristics for nutrient digestion and absorption in IUGR offspring are still largely unknown.Therefore,the normal birth weight(NBW)and IUGR growing pigs were used in this study to investigate their differences in nutrient utilization,with an expectition for further nutritional optimization of the IUGR offspring during their later life.Methods:Twelve IUGR and 12 NBW growing pigs were fitted with catheters in their portal vein to measure blood flow rate as well as nutrients and metabolites in plasma.The digestibilities of nutrients in different intestinal segments,and bacterial fermentation in the large intestine were examined to reveal the characteristics of nutrients utilization in IUGR versus NBW pigs.Results:The rate of portal venous blood flow did not differ beween IUGR and NBW pigs.Plasma concentrations of total cholesterol,triglycerides and glucose were much lower but those of urea were higher in the portal vein of IUGR pigs,compared with the NBW pigs.The ileal digestibility of dry matter,gross energy and starch were lower in IUGR pigs than in NBW pigs.IUGR increased hindgut microbial diversity and bacterial fermentation activity in the caecum.In vitro cross-fermentation of ileal digesta by caecal microbes of NBW and IUGR pigs showed that gas production was much higher for IUGR ileal digesta regardless of the source of caecal inocula.Conclusion:IUGR impairs the nutrient digestion and absorption in small intestine,reduces caecal microbial diversity and promotes bacterial fermentation in the large intestine during the growing phase.These findings aid in our understanding of nutrient metabolism in IUGR pigs and provide the basis for future nutritional interventions.Tiantian Li Shimeng Huang Long Lei Shiyu Tao Yi Xiong Guoyao Wu Jie Hu Xiongkun Yuan Shengjun Zhao Bin Zuo Hongjian Yang Yingping Xiao Gang Lin Junjun Wang 2021Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2021,12,2:2
720(R)-ginsenoside Rg3,a product of high-efficiency thermal deglycosylation of ginsenoside Rd,exerts protective effects against scrotal heat-induced spermatogenic damage in mice显示文摘Heat stress(HS)reaction can lead to serious physiological dysfunction associated with cardiovascular and various organ diseases.Ginsenoside Rg3(G-Rg3)is a representative component of ginseng rare saponin and can protect against multiple organs,also used as functional food to adjust the balance of the human body,but the therapeutic effect and molecular mechanism of G-Rg3 on male diseases under HS are underexplored.The aim of the present study,G-Rg3 was prepared through the efficient conversion of ginsenoside Rd and investigate the contribution of G-Rg3 to testicular injury induced exposure to HS.All mice were divided into four groups as follows:normal group,HS group,and HS+G-Rg3(5 and 10 mg/kg)groups.G-Rg3 was administered orally for 14 days,then exposed to a single scrotal heat treatment(43°C,18min)on the 7th day.After HS treatment,the morphology of testis and epididymis changes,and caused a significant loss of multinucleated giant cells,desquamation of germ cells in destructive seminiferous tubules,and degenerative Leydig cells,further destroying the production of sperm.After administration G-Rg3(5 and 10 mg/kg/day)for 2 weeks,the spermatogenic-related indexes of testosterone levels and superoxide dismutase(SOD)activity,glutathione(GSH)content significantly(p<0.01)increase compared with the HS group.Moreover,G-Rg3 treatment effectively ameliorated the production of malondialdehyde(MDA)(p<0.05 or p<0.01).Importantly,G-Rg3 exhibited the protective potential against HS-induced injury not only suppressing the protein levels of heme oxygenase-1(HO-1),hypoxia-inducible factor-1α(HIF-1α),and heat shock protein 70(HSP70)but also modulating the Bcl-2 family(p<0.01 or p<0.001)and activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)signaling pathways(p<0.01).For most of the parameters tested,the HS+G-Rg3(10 mg/kg)group exhibited potent effects compared with those exhibited by the low dose(5 mg/kg)group.In conclusion,the present study demonstrated that G-Rg3 exerted protective effects against HS-induced testicular dysfunction via inhibiting the MAPK-mediated oxidative stress and apoptosis in mice.WEI LIU ZI WANG JING LENG HENG WEI SHEN REN XIAOJIE GONG CHEN CHEN YINGPING WANG RUI ZHANG WEI LI 2020BIOCELL2020,44,4:2

9Electro-catalytic degradation of sulfisoxazole by using graphene anode显示文摘Graphite and graphene electrodes were prepared by using pure graphite as precursor. The electrode materials were characterized by a scanning electron microscope(SEM), X-ray diffraction(XRD) and cyclic voltammetry(CV) measurements. The electro-catalytic activity for degradation of sulfisoxazole(SIZ) was investigated by using prepared graphene or graphite anode. The results showed that the degradation of SIZ was much more rapid on the graphene than that on the graphite electrode. Moreover, the graphene electrode exhibited good stability and recyclability. The analysis on the intermediate products and the measurement of active species during the SIZ degradation demonstrated that indirect oxidation is the dominant mechanism, involving the electro-catalytic generation of OH and O_2^- as the main active oxygen species. 13Decoupling engineering of formamidinium–cesium perovskites for efficient photovoltaics显示文摘Although pure formamidinium iodide perovskite(FAPbI3)possesses an optimal gap for photovoltaics,their poor phase stability limits the long-term operational stability of the devices.A promising approach to enhance their phase stability is to incorporate cesium into FAPbI3.However,state-of-the-art formamidinium–cesium(FA–Cs)iodide perovskites demonstrate much worse efficiency compared with FAPbI3,limited by the different crystallization dynamics of formamidinium and cesium,which result in poor composition homogeneity and high trap densities.We develop a novel strategy of crystallization decoupling processes of formamidinium and cesium via a sequential cesium incorporation approach.As such,we obtain highly reproducible,highly efficient and stable solar cells based on FA_(1–x)Cs_(x)PbI_(3)(x=0.05–0.16)films with uniform composition distribution in the nanoscale and low defect densities.We also revealed a new stabilization mechanism for Cs doping to stabilize FAPbI3,i.e.the incorporation of Cs into FAPbI3 significantly reduces the electron–phonon coupling strength to suppress ionic migration,thereby improving the stability of FA–Cs-based devices.Haoran Chen Yong Wang Yingping Fan Yuetian Chen Yanfeng Miao Zhixiao Qin Xingtao Wang Xiaomin Liu Kaicheng Zhu Feng Gao Yixin Zhao 2022National Science Review2022,9,10:1
14Degradation of organic pollutants by visible light synergistic electro-Fenton oxidation process显示文摘Visible light irradiation combined with homogeneous iron and/or hydrogen peroxide to degrade organic dye rhodamine B (RhB) and small molecular compound 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) in a home-made bottle reactor was assessed. The concen-tration of oxidize species, Fe3+ and Fe2+ were determined during the degradation process. The results demonstrated that visible light irradiation combined with electro-Fenton improved the degradation efficiency. Moreover, both RhB and 2,4-DCP were mineralized during visible light synergistic electro-Fenton oxidation process. 95.0% TOC (total organic carbon) removal rate of RhB occurred after 90 min and 96.7% of COD (chemical oxygen demand) removal rate after 65 min of irradiation. 91.3% TOC removal rate of 2,4-DCP occurred after 16 h of irradiation and 99.9% COD removal rate occurred after 12 h of illumination. The degradation and oxidation process was dominated by the hydroxyl radical ( · OH) generated in the system. 16Donor age and body weight determine the effects of fecal microbiota transplantation on growth performance,and fecal microbiota development in recipient pigs显示文摘Background:The application of fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT)to improve swine growth performance has been sporadically studied.Most of these studies used a single microbiota source and thus the effect of donor characteristics on recipient pigs’fecal microbiota development and growth performance is largely unknown.Results:In this study,we collected feces from six donors with heavy(H)or light(L)body weight and different ages(d 42,nursery;d 96,growing;and d 170,finisher)to evaluate their effects on the growth performance and fecal microbiota development of recipient pigs.Generally,recipients that received two doses of FMT from nursery and finisher stages donor at weaning(21±2 days of age)inherited the donor’s growth pattern,while the pigs gavaged with grower stage material exerted a numerically greater weight gain than the control pigs regardless of donor BW.FMT from heavier donors(NH,GH,and FH)led to the recipients to have numerically increased growth compared to their lighter counterparts(NL,GL,and FL,respectively)throughout the growing and most finishing stages.This benefit could be attributed to the enrichment of ASV25 Faecalibacterium,ASV61 Faecalibacterium,ASV438 Coriobacteriaceae_unclassified,ASV144 Bulleidia,and ASV129 Oribacterium and decrease of ASV13 Escherichia during nursery stage.Fecal microbiota transplantation from growing and finishing donors influenced the microbial community significantly in recipient pigs during the nursery stage.FMT of older donors’gut microbiota expedited recipients’microbiota maturity on d 35 and 49,indicated by increased estimated microbiota ages.The ageassociated bacterial taxa included ASV206 Ruminococcaceae,ASV211 Butyrivibrio,ASV416 Bacteroides,ASV2 Streptococcus,and ASV291 Veillonellaceae.The body weight differences between GL and GH pigs on d 104 were associated with the increased synthesis of the essential amino acid,lysine and methionine,mixed acid fermentation,expedited glycolysis,and sucrose/galactose degradation.Conclusions:Overall,our study provided insights into how donor age and body weight affect FMT outcomes regarding growth performance,microbiota community shifts,and lower GI tract metabolic potentials.This study also provided guidance to select qualified donors for future fecal microbiota transplantation.Xiaofan Wang Tsungcheng Tsai Bin Zuo Xiaoyuan Wei Feilong Deng Ying Li Charles V.Maxwell Hua Yang Yingping Xiao Jiangchao Zhao 2022Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2022,13,5:1
