1Prenatal and early life home environment exposure in relation to preschool children's asthma, allergic rhinitis and eczema in Taiyuan, China显示文摘Prenatal and early life home environment might be related to children’s asthma or allergic diseases later in life.A cross-sectional epidemiological study was designed and a questionnaire survey was performed in 3700 preschool children in urban areas in Taiyuan,Shanxi Province,China.Questions on children’s asthma and allergic diseases from the International Study on Asthma and Allergies in Childhood(ISAAC)were integrated with questions on home environment from the Swedish Dampness in Buildings and Health(DBH)study,appropriately modified for Chinese life habits.By multivariate regression analyses controlling for age,gender,heredity,location in urban/suburban or rural areas,environmental tobacco smoke(ETS)and breastfeeding,we found that home new furniture(HNF)before birth(referring to 1 year before pregnancy and during pregnancy)was positively associated with wheezing ever(odds ratio(OR)1.23 with 95%CI of 1.03–1.48)and wheezing last 12 months(1.24,1.00–1.54),allergic rhinitis(AR)(1.26,1.06–1.51),and eczema(1.42,1.01–1.99).HNF between 0–1 years old was also positively associated with wheezing last 12 months.Home new decoration(HND)during 0–1 years old was positively associated with AR symptoms and eczema symptoms,more in the last 12 months.Stronger positive associations were found for signs of home mold and dampness with almost all children’s asthmatic and allergic symptoms(OR ranging from 1.23–1.85,P<0.05).By mutual adjustment between HNF before children’s birth and home mold or dampness,all the significance remained unchanged.Prenatal HNF and home mold or dampness was independently associated with children’s asthmatic and allergic diseases later in life.ZHAO ZhuoHui ZHANG Xin LIU RanRan NORBACK Dan WIESLANDER Gunilla CHEN Jie SUNDELL Jan 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,34:13

4New insights into the associations among feed efficiency, metabolizable efficiency traits and related QTL regions in broiler chickens显示文摘Background: Improving the feed efficiency would increase profitability for producers while also reducing the environmental footprint of livestock production. This study was conducted to investigate the relationships among feed efficiency traits and metabolizable efficiency traits in 180 male broilers. Significant loci and genes affecting the metabolizable efficiency traits were explored with an imputation-based genome-wide association study. The traits measured or calculated comprised three growth traits, five feed efficiency related traits, and nine metabolizable efficiency traits.Results: The residual feed intake(RFI) showed moderate to high and positive phenotypic correlations with eight other traits measured, including average daily feed intake(ADFI), dry excreta weight(DEW), gross energy excretion(GEE), crude protein excretion(CPE), metabolizable dry matter(MDM), nitrogen corrected apparent metabolizable energy(AMEn), abdominal fat weight(Ab F), and percentage of abdominal fat(Ab P). Greater correlations were observed between growth traits and the feed conversion ratio(FCR) than RFI. In addition, the RFI, FCR, ADFI, DEW,GEE, CPE, MDM, AMEn, Ab F, and Ab P were lower in low-RFI birds than high-RFI birds(P < 0.01 or P < 0.05), whereas the coefficients of MDM and MCP of low-RFI birds were greater than those of high-RFI birds(P < 0.01). Five narrow QTLs for metabolizable efficiency traits were detected, including one 82.46-kb region for DEW and GEE on Gallus gallus chromosome(GGA) 26, one 120.13-kb region for MDM and AMEn on GGA1, one 691.25-kb region for the coefficients of MDM and AMEn on GGA5, one region for the coefficients of MDM and MCP on GGA2(103.45–103.53 Mb), and one 690.50-kb region for the coefficient of MCP on GGA14. Linkage disequilibrium(LD) analysis indicated that the five regions contained high LD blocks, as well as the genes chromosome 26 C6 orf106 homolog(C26 H6 orf106), LOC396098, SH3 and multiple ankyrin repeat domains 2(SHANK2), ETS homologous factor(EHF), and histamine receptor H3-like(HRH3 L), which are known to be involved in the regulation of neurodevelopment, cell proliferation and differentiation, and food intake.Conclusions: Selection for low RFI significantly decreased chicken feed intake, excreta output, and abdominal fat deposition, and increased nutrient digestibility without changing the weight gain. Five novel QTL regions involved in the control of metabolizable efficiency in chickens were identified. 6A selected population study reveals the biochemical mechanism of intramuscular fat deposition in chicken meat显示文摘Background:Increasing intramuscular fat(IMF)is an important strategy to improve meat quality,but the regulation mechanism of IMF deposition needs to be systematically clarified.Results:A total of 520 chickens from a selected line with improved IMF content and a control line were used to investigate the biochemical mechanism of IMF deposition in chickens.The results showed that the increased IMF would improve the flavor and tenderness quality of chicken meat.IMF content was mainly determined both by measuring triglyceride(TG)and phospholipid(PLIP)in muscle tissue,but only TG content was found to be decisive for IMF deposition.Furthermore,the increase in major fatty acid(FA)components in IMF is mainly derived from TGs(including C16:0,C16:1,C18:1n9c,and C18:2n6c,etc.),and the inhibition of certain very-long-chain FAs would help to IMF/TG deposition.Conclusions:Our study elucidated the underlying biochemical mechanism of IMF deposition in chicken:Prevalent accumulation of long-chain FAs and inhibitions of medium-chain FAs and very long chain FA would jointly result in the increase of TGs with the FA biosynthesis and cellular uptake ways.Our findings will guide the production of high-quality chicken meat.Huanxian Cui Lu Liu Xiaojing Liu Yongli Wang Na Luo Xiaodong Tan Yuting Zhu Ranran Liu Guiping Zhao Jie Wen 2022Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2022,13,5:2
7Spatio-temporal Evolution and Driving Factors of the High-quality Development of Provincial Tourism in China显示文摘Accelerating the promotion of high-quality development of tourism(HQDT) is of great significance to the sustainable development of tourism. This paper defined the concept of HQDT, and then built an evaluation system for HQDT measurement to analyze the spatio-temporal evolution characteristics of China’s HQDT based on provincial panel data from 2010 to 2019, using Geodetector to explore the similarities and differences between driving factors of HQDT and tourism development scale(TDS). The results show that:1) Taking the development concepts of innovation, coordination, green, openness and sharing as the guidance, and considering the organic unity of quantity and quality, the evaluation index system of the HQDT consists of six dimensions of economic stability, innovation driving, coordination and linkage, green and sustainability, openness and cooperation, and sharing and harmony, which respectively represent the basis, momentum, means, orientation, direction and purpose of the HQDT;2) The level of China’s HQDT shows an upward trend, presenting the characteristics of eastern region > central region > western region > northeastern region in 2019. The regional differences in China’s HQDT show a downward trend, and the intra-regional differences have replaced the inter-regional differences as the main source of regional differences;3) China’s HQDT shows the characteristics of higher in the east and lower in the west along the Hu line, while the improvement speed of HQDT shows the characteristics of faster in the west and slower in the east, making the decline of east-west differentiation of China’s HQDT and the movement of the gravity center towards southwest;4) Both HQDT and TDS are obviously driven by tourism capital investment and regional consumption. 11The regulation of IMF deposition in pectoralis major of fast-and slow-growing chickens at hatching显示文摘Background: The lipid from egg yolk is largely consumed in supplying the energy for embryonic growth until hatching. The remaining lipid in the yolk sac is transported into the hatchling's tissues. The gene expression profiles of fast-and slow-growing chickens, Arbor Acres(AA) and Beijing-You(BJY), were determined to identify global differentially expressed genes and enriched pathways related to lipid metabolism in the pectoralis major at hatching.Results: Between these two breeds, the absolute and weight-specific amounts of total yolk energy(TYE) and intramuscular fat(IMF) content in pectoralis major of fast-growing chickens were significantly higher(P < 0.01,P < 0.01, P < 0.05, respectively) than those of the slow-growing breed. IMF content and u-TYE were significantly related(r = 0.9047, P < 0.01). Microarray analysis revealed that gene transcripts related to lipogenesis, including PPARG, RBP7, LPL, FABP4, THRSP, ACACA, ACSS1, DGAT2, and GK, were significantly more abundant in breast muscle of fast-growing chickens than in slow-growing chickens. Conversely, the abundance of transcripts of genes involved in fatty acid degradation and glycometabolism, including ACAT1, ACOX2, ACOX3, CPT1 A, CPT2, DAK, APOO, FUT9, GCNT1,and B4 GALT3, was significantly lower in fast-growing chickens. The results further indicated that the PPAR signaling pathway was directly involved in fat deposition in pectoralis major, and other upstream pathways(Hedgehog, TGFbeta, and cytokine–cytokine receptor interaction signaling pathways) play roles in its regulation of the expression of related genes.Conclusions: Additional energy from the yolk sac is transported and deposited as IMF in the pectoralis major of chickens at hatching. Genes and pathways related to lipid metabolism(such as PPAR, Hedgehog, TGF-beta, and cytokine–cytokine receptor interaction signaling pathways) promote the deposition of IMF in the pectoralis major of fast-growing chickens compared with those that grow more slowly. 12Dominant changes in the breast muscle lipid profiles of broiler chickens with wooden breast syndrome revealed by lipidomics analyses显示文摘Background: Chicken is the most consumed meat worldwide and the industry has been facing challenging myopathies. Wooden breast(WB), which is often accompanied by white striping(WS), is a serious myopathy adversely affecting meat quality of breast muscles. The underlying lipid metabolic mechanism of WB affected broilers is not fully understood.Results: A total of 150 chickens of a white-feathered, fast-growing pure line were raised and used for the selection of WB, WB + WS and control chickens. The lipids of the breast muscle, liver, and serum from different chickens were extracted and measured using ultra performance liquid chromatography(UPLC) plus Q-Exactive Orbitrap tandem mass spectrometry. In the breast, 560 lipid molecules were identified. Compared to controls, 225/225 of 560 lipid molecules(40.2%) were identified with differential abundance(DA), including 92/100 significantly increased neutral lipids and 107/98 decreased phospholipids in the WB/WB + WS groups, respectively. The content of monounsaturated fatty acids(MUFA) was significantly higher, and the polyunsaturated fatty acids(PUFA) and saturated fatty acids(SFA) were significantly lower in the affected breasts. In the liver, 434 lipid molecules were identified, and 39/61 DA lipid molecules(6.7%/14.1%) were detected in the WB and WB + WS groups, respectively. In the serum, a total of 529 lipid molecules were identified and 4/44 DA lipid molecules(0.8%/8.3%) were detected in WB and WB + WS group, respectively. Compared to controls, the content of MUFAs in the serum and breast of the WB + WS group were both significantly increased, and the content of SFAs in two tissues were both significantly decreased. Only five lipid molecules were consistently increased in both liver and serum in WB + WS group.Conclusions: We have found for the first time that the dominant lipid profile alterations occurred in the affected breast muscle. The relative abundance of 40.2% of lipid molecules were changed and is characteristic of increased neutral lipids and decreased phospholipids in the affected breasts. Minor changes of lipid profiles in the liver and serum of the affected groups were founded. 13Efficacy and safety of Sancai powder in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: a randomized controlled trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy and safety of Sancai powder in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) inadequately controlled with single oral metformin in a randomized controlled trial(RCT).METHODS: A total of 132 patients with T2 DM were enrolled in the study, who only took metformin(500-1000 mg/day) for at least three months and with inadequate glycemic control(7.0% ≤ hemoglobin A1 c ≤ 9.0%) in the past three months.The patients stopped taking metformin with lifestyle interventions for three weeks, and 105 patients qualified for the program. They were randomly divided into the Sancai powder group and the metformin group(1500 mg/day). The follow-up period was for 12 weeks. Comparisons of several variables were analyzed.RESULTS: No significant differences were found between the two groups in hemoglobin A1c(Hb A1c),fasting plasma glucose(FPG) and 2 h post-meal glucose(2h PG), although they had decreased significantly(P < 0.01). Homeostasis model assessment of beta cell function index was significantly improved in Sancai powder group(P < 0.01), and there were significant differences in the changes of homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance and insulin sensitivity index in the two groups(P < 0.05). 15Chicken gga-miR-1306-5p targets Tollip and plays an important role in host response against Salmonella enteritidis infection显示文摘Background: Increasing evidence indicates that micro RNAs(mi RNAs) are involved in inflammatory response and immune regulation following pathogen invasion. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the roles played by Gallus gallus micro RNA-1306-5 p(gga-mi R-1306-5 p) in host responses against potential invasion by Salmonella enteritidis(SE) in chickens and the underlying mechanisms.Results: In present study, the expression levels of gga-mi R-1306-5 p were determined in both tissues and HD11 cells. The results showed that gga-mi R-1306-5 p was significantly increased following SE infection or lipopolysaccharide(LPS) stimulation. The dual luciferase reporter assay further validated that gga-mi R-1306-5 p targeted the Toll-interacting protein(Tollip), and thereby participated in the regulation of immune response against SE or LPS stimulation through binding with the 3′-untranslated region(3’UTR) of Tollip. Additionally, the expression of Tollip was significantly blocked by over-expressed gga-mi R-1306-5 p. The underlying mechanisms by which ggami R-1306-5 p modulated the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines were also investigated. Molecular biological assays demonstrated that overexpression of gga-mi R-1306-5 p promoted the production of pro-inflammatory mediators, including NF-κB, TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β, which produced effects similar to those of Tollip knockdown.Conclusions: Taken together, gga-mi R-1306-5 p induced by SE or LPS, regulates the immune response by inhibiting Tollip, which activates the production of inflammatory cytokines. 16Spatial Distribution and Sources Identification of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Wolong Lake, Northeast China显示文摘The aquatic ecosystem maybe significantly affected by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) released from fresh water sediments. In order to protect biodiversity, the spatial distribution and sources of PAHs in the sediment of Wolong Lake in Northeast China were studied. A total of 17 surface sediment samples were collected and 12 PAHs were analyzed. The results were as follows. The concentration of total PAHs(TPAHs) ranged between 1412.9 μg/kg and 3948.3 μg/kg(dry weight). Indeno [1, 2, 3-c, d] pyrene was the dominant contaminant which accounted for 87%–98% of TPAHs. Diagnostic ratios of PAHs and principal component analysis showed that biomass combustion and vehicle emissions were likely to be the dominant sources of PAHs in the sediment. PAHs can be considered safe in the context of environmental and human health protection, based on the overall toxicity. Individual PAHs were positively correlated with total organic carbons. 17Enhanced host immune responses in presence of HCV facilitate HBV clearance in coinfection显示文摘Hepatitis B virus(HBV)/Hepatitis C virus(HCV)coinfection is frequently observed because of the common infection routine.Despite the reciprocal inhibition exerted by HBV and HCV genomes,the coinfection of HBV and HCV is associated with more severe forms of liver diseases.However,the complexity of viral interference and underlying pathological mechanism is still unclarified.With the demonstration of absence of direct viral interplay,some in vitro studies suggest the indirect effects of viral-host interaction on viral dominance outcome.Here,we comprehensively investigated the viral replication and host immune responses which might mediate the interference between viruses in HBV/HCV coinfected Huh7-NTCP cells and immunocompetent HCV human receptors transgenic ICR mice.We found that presence of HCV significantly inhibited HBV replication in vitro and in vivo irrespective of the coinfection order,while HBV did not affect HCV replication.Pathological alteration was coincidently reproduced in coinfected mice.In addition to the participation of innate immune response,an involvement of HCV in up-regulating HBV-specific immune responses was described to facilitate HBV clearance.Our systems partially recapitulate HBV/HCV coinfection and unveil the uncharacterized adaptive anti-viral immune responses during coinfection,which renews the knowledge on the nature of indirect viral interaction during HBV/HCV coinfection.Shuhui Liu Kaitao Zhao Xi Su Xiaoxiao Gao Yongxuan Yao Ranran Kong Yun Wang Chunchen Wu Mengji Lu Xinwen Chen Rongjuan Pei 2022Virologica Sinica2022,37,3:1

19A significant quantitative trait locus on chromosome Z and its impact on egg production traits in seven maternal lines of meat-type chicken显示文摘Background:Egg production is economically important in the meat-type chicken industry.To better understand the molecular genetic mechanism of egg production in meat-type chicken,genetic parameter estimation,genome-wide association analyses combined with meta-analyses,Bayesian analyses,and selective sweep analyses were performed to screen single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)and other genetic loci that were significantly associated with egg number traits in 11,279 chickens from seven material lines.Results:Yellow-feathered meat-type chickens laid 115 eggs at 43 weeks of age and white-feathered chickens laid 143 eggs at 60 weeks of age,with heritability ranging from 0.034–0.258.Based on meta-analyses and selective sweep analyses,one region(10.81–13.05 Mb)on chromosome Z was associated with egg number in all lines.Further analyses using the W2 line was also associated with the same region,and 29 SNPs were identified that significantly affected estimation of breeding value of egg numbers.The 29 SNPs were identified as having a significant effect on the egg number EBV in 3194 birds in line W2.There are 36 genes in the region,with glial cell derived neurotrophic factor,DAB adaptor protein 2,protein kinase AMP-activated catalytic subunit alpha 1,NAD kinase 2,mitochondrial,WD repeat domain 70,leukemia inhibitory factor receptor alpha,complement C6,and complement C7 identified as being potentially affecting to egg number.In addition,three SNPs(rs318154184,rs13769886,and rs313325646)associated with egg number were located on or near the prolactin receptor gene.Conclusion:Our study used genomic information from different chicken lines and populations to identify a genomic region(spanning 2.24 Mb)associated with egg number.Nine genes and 29 SNPs were identified as the most likely candidate genes and variations for egg production.These results contribute to the identification of candidate genes and variants for egg traits in poultry.Jiqiang Ding Fan Ying Qinghe Li Gaomeng Zhang Jin Zhang Ranran Liu Maiqing Zheng Jie Wen Guiping Zhao 2023Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2023,14,1:1
20Protective effect of brain and muscle arnt-like protein-1 against ethanol-induced ferroptosis by activating Nrf2 in mice liver and HepG2 cells显示文摘Alcohol abuse has recently become a serious health concern worldwide,and the incidence of alcoholic liver disease(ALD)is rapidly increasing with high morbidity and mortality.Ferroptosis is a newly recognized form of regulated cell death caused by the iron-dependent accumulation of lipid peroxidation.Here we showed that the circadian clock protein brain and muscle arnt-like protein-1(BMAL1)in hepatocytes is both necessary and sufficient to protect against ALD by mitigating ferroptosis.U pon exposure to alcohol(5%Lieber-DeCarli liquid alcohol diet for 10 days before binged alcohol with 5 g/kg body weight in vivo,300 mmol/L for 12 h in vitro,respectively),the content of iron,reactive oxygen species(ROS)and malondialdehyde(MDA)was boosted signifi cantly while glutathione(GSH)was decreased that mainly based on the downregulated protein expression of ferritin heavy chain(FTH),ferroportin(FPN),heme oxygenase1(HO-1)and anti-cystine/glutamate antiporter(SLC7A11),while these changes could be abolished by ferroptosis inhibitor Ferrostatin-1[Fer-1(5 mg/kg body weight for 10 days in vivo,10μmol/L for 2 h in vitro,respectively)].Further study indicated that the alcohol could activate the protein expression of BMAL1 which exerts a protective effect against ferroptosis through promoting nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2)translocation into nuclear and subsequently stimulating its downstream proteins FTH,FPN,glutathione peroxidase 4 activity(GPX4),HO-1,SLC7A11,while knockdown of BMAL1 and Nrf2 by RNA interference further downregulated the expression of these protein and thus promoting ferroptosis in response to alcohol.Collectively,our results unveiled that the protective action of BMAL1 during alcohol challenge depends on its ability to activate Nrf2-ARE antiferroptosis pathway and targeting hepatic BMAL1 to dampen hepatic ferroptosis signaling may have therapeutic potential for ALD.Yanan Zhao Ranran Zhang Ziheng Chen Ziyi Wang Shuang Guan Jing Lu 2023Food Science and Human Wellness2023,12,6:0
