1Efficacy of intramuscular BCG polysaccharide nucleotide on mild to moderate bronchial asthma accompanied with allergic rhinitis: a randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled study显示文摘Background Atopy is a state of allergy to common antigens and is founded on an immune disturbance of exuberant Th2 activity and IgE production. There is also epidemiological and experimental evidence that exposure to mycobacteria has the potential to suppress the development of asthma or atopy. Since Th1 and Th2 immune mechanisms are significantly antagonistic, it is hypothesized that mycobacterial exposure may moderate atopic disease by modification of immune responses. Methods One hundred and twenty mild to moderate persistent asthmatics accompanied with allergic rhinitis were randomly divided into four groups with one injection every other day for 18 times for group A with 1 ml of normal saline, B with 0.5 mg of Bacillus Calmette-Guérin polysaccharide nucleotide (BCG-PSN) and C with 1 mg of BCG-PSN, 36 times for group D with 0.5 mg of BCG-PSN. Markers for the severity of asthma and rhinitis including the amount of inhaled corticosteriod, bronchodilator and oral H1 blocker-loratidine being used to obtain optimal symptomatic control, symptom scores of asthma and allergic rhinitis, peak expiratory flow (PEF), histamine provocative dose that produces at least a 20% change in forced expiratory volume with in 1 second (PD20-FEV1), blood IgE levels as well as dermatophagoides pteronysinus (DP) and dermatophagoides farinae (DF) skin prick test were measured every visit for 6 months. Results There were no differences for symptom scores of asthma, daily use of bronchodilator, PEF, PD20-FEV1, blood IgE as well as DF and DP skin prick test among the four groups. Score for allergic rhinitis decreased significantly in groups B, C and D on day 36 and 72 as compared with group A (P<0.05). Score for allergic rhinitis increased after day 72 in group B and C while it was significantly lower in group D (P<0.05). The patients in group D used less amount of inhaled beclomethosone than other groups (P<0.05) from day 72 after the treatment to day 180. Oral loratadine consumption in groups B, C and D was significantly less on day 36 and 72 as compared with their baseline and group A after the treatment (P<0.05). Group D maintained significantly lower dosage of oral loratadine until day 150 comparing with its baseline and group A. Conclusions BCG-PSN has a symptomatic effect on allergic rhinitis. 3β-sitosterol ameliorates influenza A virus-induced proinflammatory response and acute lung injury in mice by disrupting the cross-talk between RIG-I and IFN/STAT signaling显示文摘β-Sitosterol(24-ethyl-5-cholestene-3-ol)is a common phytosterol Chinese medical plants that has been shown to possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity.In this study we investigated the effects ofβ-sitosterol on influenza virus-induced inflammation and acute lung injury and the molecular mechanisms.We demonstrate thatβ-sitosterol(150–450μg/mL)dosedependently suppresses inflammatory response through NF-κB and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)signaling in influenza A virus(IAV)-infected cells,which was accompanied by decreased induction of interferons(IFNs)(including Type I and III IFN).Furthermore,we revealed that the anti-inflammatory effect ofβ-sitosterol resulted from its inhibitory effect on retinoic acidinducible gene I(RIG-I)signaling,led to decreased STAT1 signaling,thus affecting the transcriptional activity of ISGF3(interferonstimulated gene factor 3)complexes and resulting in abrogation of the IAV-induced proinflammatory amplification effect in IFNsensitized cells.Moreover,β-sitosterol treatment attenuated RIG-I-mediated apoptotic injury of alveolar epithelial cells(AEC)via downregulation of pro-apoptotic factors.In a mouse model of influenza,pre-administration ofβ-sitosterol(50,200 mg·kg−1·d−1,i.g.,for 2 days)dose-dependently ameliorated IAV-mediated recruitment of pathogenic cytotoxic T cells and immune dysregulation.In addition,pre-administration ofβ-sitosterol protected mice from lethal IAV infection.Our data suggest thatβ-sitosterol blocks the immune response mediated by RIG-I signaling and deleterious IFN production,providing a potential benefit for the treatment of influenza.Bei-xian Zhou Jing Li Xiao-li Liang Xi-ping Pan Yan-bing Hao Pei-fang Xie Hai-ming Jiang Zi-feng Yang Nan-shan Zhong 2020Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2020,41,9:20

5Diagnostic performance of magnifying narrow-band imaging for early gastric cancer: A meta-analysis显示文摘AIM: To investigate the performance of magnifying endoscopy with narrow-band imaging(ME-NBI) in the diagnosis of early gastric cancer(EGC).METHODS: Systematic literature searches were conducted until February 2014 in Pub Med, EMBASE, Web of Science, Ovid, Scopus and the Cochrane Library databases by two independent reviewers. Meta-analysis was performed to calculate the pooled sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic odds ratio and to construct a summary receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve. Subgroup analyses were performed based on the morphology type of lesions, diagnostic standard, the size of lesions, type of assessment, country and sample size to explore possible sources of heterogeneity. A Deeks' asymmetry test was used to evaluate the publication bias.RESULTS: Fourteen studies enrolling 2171 patients were included. The pooled sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic odds ratio for ME-NBI diagnosis of EGC were 0.86(95%CI: 0.83-0.89), 0.96(95%CI: 0.95-0.97) and 102.75(95%CI: 48.14-219.32), respectively, with the area under ROC curve being 0.9623. Among the 14 studies, six also evaluated the diagnostic value of conventional white-light imaging, with a sensitivityof 0.57(95%CI: 0.50-0.64) and a specificity of 0.79(95%CI: 0.76-0.81). When using 'VS'(vessel plus surface) ME-NBI diagnostic systems in gastric lesions of depressed macroscopic type, the pooled sensitivity and specificity were 0.64(95%CI: 0.52-0.75) and 0.96(95%CI: 0.95-0.98). 6A drug-eluting Balloon for the trEatment of coronarY bifurcatiON lesions in the side branch:a prospective multicenter ranDomized (BEYOND)clinical trial in China显示文摘Background:Treatment of coronary bifurcation lesions remains challenging;a simple strategy has been preferred as of late,but the disadvantage is ostium stenosis or even occlusion of the side branch(SB).Only a few single-center studies investigating the combination of a drug-eluting stent in the main branch followed by a drug-eluting balloon in the SB have been reported.This prospective,multicenter,randomized study aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy of a paclitaxel-eluting balloon(PEB)compared with regular balloon angioplasty(BA)in the treatment of non-left main coronary artery bifurcation lesions.Methods:Between December 2014 and November 2015,a total of 222 consecutive patients with bifurcation lesions were enrolled in this study at ten Chinese centers.Patients were randomly allocated at a 1:1 ratio to a PEB group(n=113)and a BA group(n=109).The primary efficacy endpoint was angiographic target lesion stenosis at 9 months.Secondary efficacy and safety endpoints included target lesion revascularization,target vessel revascularization,target lesion failure,major adverse cardiac and cerebral events(MACCEs),all-cause death,cardiac death,non-fatal myocardial infarction,and thrombosis in target lesions.The main analyses performed in this clinical trial included case shedding analysis,base-value equilibrium analysis,effectiveness analysis,and safety analysis.SAS version 9.4 was used for the statistical analyses.Results:At the 9-month angiographic follow-up,the difference in the primary efficacy endpoint of target lesion stenosis between the PEB(28.7%±18.7%)and BA groups(40.0%±19.0%)was-11.3%(95%confidence interval:-16.3%to-6.3%,Psuperiority<0.0001)in the intention-to-treat analysis,and similar results were recorded in the per-protocol analysis,demonstrating the superiority of PEB to BA.Late lumen loss was significantly lower in the PEB group than in the BA group(-0.06±0.32 vs.0.18±0.34 mm,P<0.0001).For intention-to-treat,there were no significant differences between PEB and BA in the 9-month percentages of MACCEs(0.9%vs.3.7%,P=0.16)or non-fatal myocardial infarctions(0 vs.0.9%,P=0.49).There were no clinical events of target lesion revascularization,target vessel revascularization,target lesion failure,all-cause death,cardiac death or target lesion thrombosis in either group.Conclusions:In de novo non-left main coronary artery bifurcations treated with provisional T stenting,SB dilation with the PEB group demonstrated better angiographic results than treatment with regular BA at the 9-month follow-up in terms of reduced target lesion stenosis.Trial registration:ClinicalTrials.gov,NCT02325817;http://gffzzd3f38a9638994581s5kcwv5kqupq560b0.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn.Quan-Min Jing Xin Zhao Ya-Ling Han Ling-Ling Gao Yang Zheng Zhan-Quan Li Ping Yang Hong-Liang Cong Chuan-Yu Gao Tie-Min Jiang Hui Li Jun-Xia Li Dong-Mei Wang Geng Wang Zhan-Chun Cong Zhong Zhang 2020Chinese Medical Journal2020,,8:17

8Correlation of burial organic carbon and paleoproductivity in the Mesoproterozoic Hongshuizhuang Formation, northern North China显示文摘In general, total organic carbon (TOC) is directly used as a proxy for paleoproductivity, however, it is not only affected by paleoproductivity, but also controlled by redox conditions and terrigenous detrital matter influx. Major and trace elements were analysed with the purpose of investigating the redox potential and paleoproductivity during deposition of the Hongshuizhuang Formation. In the present study, C-S relationship, V/Cr ratio and Mo concentration indicate that the dolomites were deposited in oxic environments, however, most of the black shales were accumulated in euxinic environments. P/Ti values in the Hongshuizhuang samples can be compared with those in the Japanese Ubara Permian-Triassic section which were regarded to be deposited under a moderate to high paleoproductivity. Ba/Al values are slightly lower than that of the laminated sediments from the continental margins of Central California (CCAL) which were thought to be accumulated under a high paleoproductivity. These results indicate that the paleoproductivity was moderate to high during deposition of the Hongshuizhuang Formation. Burial organic carbon shows positive correlations with V/Cr and Mo, but shows only weakly or no correlation with P/Ti and Ba/Al, respectively, suggesting that although the paleoproductivity was moderate to high during deposition of the Hongshuizhuang Formation, its organic-rich sediments were predominantly controlled by redox conditions and had no direct relationship with paleoproductivity.LUO QingYong ZHONG NingNing ZHU Lei WANG YanNian QIN Jing QI Lin ZHANG Yi MA Yong 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,11:17

10Neuroprotection of Cyperus esculentus L. orientin against cerebral ischemia/reperfusion induced brain injury显示文摘Orientin is a flavonoid monomer.In recent years,its importance as a source of pharmacological active substance is growing rapidly due to its properties such as anti-myocardial ischemia,anti-apoptosis,anti-radiation,anti-tumor,and anti-aging.However,the neuroprotective effects of Orientin on stroke injury have not been comprehensively evaluated.The aim of the present study was thus to investigate the neuroprotective capacity and the potential mechanisms of Cyperus esculentus L.orientin(CLO)from Cyperus esculentus L.leaves against ischemia/reperfusion(I/R)injury using standard orientin as control.For in vitro studies,we treated HT22 cells with CoCl2 as an in vitro ischemic injury model.HT22 cells in the control group were treated with CoCl2.For in vivo studies,we used rat models of middle cerebral artery occlusion,and animals that received sham surgery were used as controls.We found that CLO protected CoCl2-induced HT22 cells against ischemia/reperfusion injury by lowering lipid peroxidation and reactive oxygen species formation as well as decreasing protein oxidation.However,CLO did not reduce the release of lactate dehydrogenase nor increase the activity of superoxide dismutase.Results showed that CLO could decrease neurological deficit score,attenuate brain water content,and reduce cerebral infarct volume,leading to neuroprotection during cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.Our studies indicate that CLO flavonoids can be taken as a natural antioxidant and bacteriostastic substance in food and pharmaceutical industry.The molecular mechanisms of CLO could be at least partially attributed to the antioxidant properties and subsequently inhibiting activation of casepase-3.All experimental procedures and protocols were approved on May 16,2016 by the Experimental Animal Ethics Committee of Xinjiang Medical University of China(approval No.IACUC20160516-57).Si-Qun Jing Sai-Sai Wang Rui-Min Zhong Jun-Yan Zhang Jin-Zi Wu Yi-Xian Tu Yan Pu Liang-Jun Yan 2020Neural Regeneration Research2020,15,3:16
11Ni/Al_2O_3 catalysts for CO methanation: Effect of Al_2O_3 supports calcined at different temperatures显示文摘The correlation between phase structures and surface acidity of Al2O3 supports calcined at different temperatures and the catalytic performance of Ni/Al2O3 catalysts in the production of synthetic natural gas(SNG) via CO methanation was systematically investigated. A series of 10 wt% NiO/Al2O3 catalysts were prepared by the conventional impregnation method, and the phase structures and surface acidity of Al2O3 supports were adjusted by calcining the commercial γ-Al2O3 at different temperatures(600–1200 C). CO methanation reaction was carried out in the temperature range of 300–600 C at different weight hourly space velocities(WHSV = 30000 and 120000 mL·g-1h-1) and pressures(0.1 and 3.0 MPa). It was found that high calcination temperature not only led to the growth in Ni particle size, but also weakened the interaction between Ni nanoparticles and Al2O3 supports due to the rapid decrease of the specific surface area and acidity of Al2O3 supports. Interestingly, Ni catalysts supported on Al2O3 calcined at 1200 C(Ni/Al2O3-1200) exhibited the best catalytic activity for CO methanation under different reaction conditions. Lifetime reaction tests also indicated that Ni/Al2O3-1200 was the most active and stable catalyst compared with the other three catalysts, whose supports were calcined at lower temperatures(600, 800 and 1000 C). 13Gualou Guizhi decoction promotes neurological functional recovery and neurogenesis following focal cerebral ischemia/reperfusion显示文摘Recovery following stroke involves neurogenesis and axonal remodeling within the ischemic brain. Gualou Guizhi decoction(GLGZD) is a Chinese traditional medicine used for the treatment of post-stroke limb spasm. GLGZD has been reported to have neuroprotective effects in cerebral ischemic injury. However, the effects of GLGZD on neurogenesis and axonal remodeling following cerebral ischemia remain unknown. In this study, a rat model of focal cerebral ischemia/reperfusion was established by middle cerebral artery occlusion. Neurological function was assessed immediately after reperfusion using Longa's 5-point scoring system. The rats were randomly divided into vehicle and GLGZD groups. Rats in the sham group were given sham operation. The rats in the GLGZD group were intragastrically administered GLGZD, once daily, for 14 consecutive days. The rats in the vehicle and sham groups were intragastrically administered distilled water. Modified neurological severity score test, balance beam test and foot fault test were used to assess motor functional changes. Nissl staining was performed to evaluate histopathological changes in the brain. Immunofluorescence staining was used to examine cell proliferation using the marker 5-bromo-2′-deoxyuridine(BrdU) as well as expression of the neural precursor marker doublecortin(DCX), the astrocyte marker glial fibrillary acidic protein(GFAP) and the axon regeneration marker growth associated protein-43(GAP-43). GLGZD substantially mitigated pathological injury, increased the number of BrdU, DCX and GFAP-immunoreactive cells in the subventricular zone of the ischemic hemisphere, increased GAP-43 expression in the cortical peri-infarct region, and improved motor function. 14Serum cystatin C levels are negatively correlated with post-stroke cognitive dysfunction显示文摘Stroke is the leading cause of death and long-term disability worldwide,and cognitive impairment and dementia are major complications of ischemic stroke.Cystatin C (CysC) has been found to be a neuroprotective factor in animal studies.However,the relationship between CysC levels and cognitive dysfunction in previous studies has revealed different results.This prospective observational study investigated the correlation between serum CysC levels and post-stroke cognitive dysfunction at 3 months.Data from 638 patients were obtained from the China Antihypertensive Trial in Acute Ischemic Stroke (CATIS).Cognitive dysfunction was assessed using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) at 3 months after stroke.According to the MMSE score,308 patients (52.9%) had post-stroke cognitive dysfunction.After adjusting for potential confounding factors,the odds ratio (95% CI) of post-stroke cognitive dysfunction for the highest quartile of serum CysC levels was 0.54 (0.30–0.98),compared with the lowest quartile.The correlation between serum CysC and cognitive dysfunction was modified by renal function status.We observed a negative linear dose-response correlation between CysC and cognitive dysfunction in patients with normal renal function (Plinearity = 0.044),but not in those with abnormal renal function.Elevated serum CysC levels were correlated with a low risk of 3-month cognitive dysfunction in patients with acute ischemic stroke,especially in those with normal renal function.The current results suggest that CysC is a protective factor for post-stroke cognitive dysfunction,and could be used to treat post-stroke cognitive dysfunction.The CATIS study was approved by the Institutional Review Boards at Soochow University from China (approval No.2012-02) on December 30,2012,and was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (identifier No.NCT01840072) on April 25,2013.Dao-Xia Guo Zheng-Bao Zhu Chong-Ke Zhong Xiao-Qing Bu Li-Hua Chen Tan Xu Li-Bing Guo Jin-Tao Zhang Dong Li Jian-Hui Zhang Zhong Ju Chung-Shiuan Chen Jing Chen Yong-Hong Zhang Jiang He 2020Neural Regeneration Research2020,15,5:14

18Effectiveness of Auricular Acupressure for Acute Postoperative Pain after Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis显示文摘Objective: To identify the effectiveness of auricular acupressure(AA) in patients with acute postoperative pain after surgery by systematic review. Methods: A search of randomized controlled trials was conducted in 5 English medical electronic databases and 4 Chinese databases. Two reviewers independently retrieved related studies, assessed the methodological quality, and extracted data with a standardized data form. Meta-analyses were performed using all time-points meta-analysis. Results: A total of 26 studies with 1,682 participants were included. Results showed that compared with conventional therapy, AA significantly improved the total effective rate [risk ratio=1.25, 95% confidence interval(CI), 1.13 to 1.37, P<0.0001; heterogeneity: P<0.0001, I^2=85%]. In the subgroup analysis, the results changed in different follow-up time and surgery categories. The pain relief in the AA group might be the most significant at 72 h after surgery(mean difference=–0.85, 95% CI, –1.20 to –0.50, P<0.0001) and in abdominal surgery(mean difference=–1.15, 95% CI, –1.41 to –0.90, P<0.0001). Sensitivity analysis demonstrated that the results of this meta-analysis were stable. No serious adverse effects were recorded. Conclusions: It was recommended to provide AA to patients with acute postoperative pain. 20Inulin Can Alleviate Metabolism Disorders in ob/ob Mice by Partially Restoring Leptinrelated Pathways Mediated by Gut Microbiota显示文摘Inulin has been used as a prebiotic to alleviate glucose and lipid metabolism disorders in mice and humans by modulating the gut microbiota. However, the mechanism underlying the alleviation of metabolic disorders by inulin through interactions between the gut microbiota and host cells is unclear. We use ob/ob mice as a model to study the effect of inulin on the cecal microbiota by16 S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing and its interaction with host cells by transcriptomics. The inulin-supplemented diet improved glucose and lipid metabolism disorder parameters in ob/ob mice,alleviating fat accumulation and glucose intolerance. The a diversity of gut microbial community of ob/ob mice was reduced after inulin treatment, while the b diversity tended to return to the level of wild type mice. Interestingly, Prevotellaceae UCG 001(family Prevotellaceae) was obviously enriched after inulin treatment. A comparative analysis of the gene expression profile showed that the cecal transcriptome was changed in leptin gene deficiency mice, whereas the inulin-supplemented diet partially reversed the changes in leptin gene-related signaling pathways, especially AMPK signaling pathway, where the levels of gene expression became comparable to those in wild type mice.Further analysis indicated that Prevotellaceae UCG 001 was positively correlated with the AMPK signaling pathway, which was negatively correlated with markers of glycolipid metabolism disorders.
