| 1 | Antidiabetic Effects of Gegen Qinlian Decoction via the Gut Microbiota Are Attributable to Its Key Ingredient Berberine显示文摘Gegen Qinlian Decoction(GQD),a traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)formula,has long been used for the treatment of common metabolic diseases,including type 2 diabetes mellitus.However,the main limitation of its wider application is ingredient complexity of this formula.Thus,it is critically important to identify the major active ingredients of GQD and to illustrate mechanisms underlying its action.Here,we compared the effects of GQD and berberine,a hypothetical key active pharmaceutical ingredient of GQD,on a diabetic rat model by comprehensive analyses of gut microbiota,short-chain fatty acids,proinflammatory cytokines,and ileum transcriptomics.Our results show that berberine and GQD had similar effects on lowering blood glucose levels,modulating gut microbiota,inducing ileal gene expression,as well as relieving systemic and local inflammation.As expected,both berberine and GQD treatment significantly altered the overall gut microbiota structure and enriched many butyrate-producing bacteria,including Faecalibacterium and Roseburia,thereby attenuating intestinal inflammation and lowering glucose.Levels of short-chain fatty acids in rat feces were also significantly elevated after treatment with berberine or GQD.Moreover,concentration of serum proinflammatory cytokines and expression of immune-related genes,including Nfkb1,Stat1,and Ifnrg1,in pancreatic islets were significantly reduced after treatment.Our study demonstrates that the main effects of GQD can be attributed to berberine via modulating gut microbiota.The strategy employed would facilitate further standardization and widespread application of TCM in many diseases. | Xizhan Xu Zezheng Gao Fuquan Yang Yingying Yang Liang Chen Lin Han Na Zhao Jiayue Xu Xinmiao Wang Yue Ma Lian Shu Xiaoxi Hu Na Lyu Yuanlong Pan Baoli Zhu Linhua Zhao Xiaolin Tong Jun Wang | 2020 | Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2020,18,6: | 29 |

| 4 | Nutritional composition and antioxidant activity of twenty mung bean cultivars in China显示文摘Interest in mung bean(Vigna radiata L.) as a functional food is growing; however, studies on the nutritional composition of major mung bean cultivars planted in China are limited.Twenty Chinese mung bean cultivars were collected and their nutritional compositions including starch, fat, protein, and phytochemicals were analyzed. The cultivars were found to have a high amount of resistant starch, accounting for 16.1%–22.3% of total starch, and balanced amino acid constitutions. Palmitic acid and linoleic acid were the two dominant fatty acids, accounting for respectively 32.4% and 36.1% of all of the assayed fatty acids. Four bound phenolic acids(syringic, caffeic, p-coumaric, and ferulic acids) and two free phenolic acids(caffeic and ferulic acids) were identified by HPLC. The antioxidant activity of 70%ethanol extracts from the 20 mung bean cultivars was evaluated. Their DPPH and ABTS+free-radical-scavenging capacity ranged from 28.13 ± 2.24 to 35.68 ± 0.71 μmol g-1and from3.82 ± 0.25 to 13.44 ± 1.76 μmol g-1, respectively. Significant positive correlations of ABTS+free-radical-scavenging capacity with total phenolic acids and total flavonoid contents were observed. | 20 | Exhumation history of the Huangshan granite pluton,southern Anhui Province:New insights from fission-track analysis显示文摘The dating of the uplift onset of the Huangshan pluton in the southern part of Anhui Province associated with the collision between paleo-Pacific Block and the Eurasian Block is a fundamental issue to better understand the uplift mechanisms and the regional tectonic evolution.χ2 values of seven zircon fission track(ZFT) samples collected from the south part of the Huangshan pluton were all<5%.Based on the grain ages of four typical ZFT samples,three thermal overprints ranging in 113-123,72-95 and 49-66 Ma were distinguished respectively using the binomial peak-fitting method in accordance with the tectonic thermal events after south China shifted into circum-Pacific tectonic region.Apatite fission track(AFT) study of the Huangshan pluton shows ages lie between 15±3 and 56±6 Ma with allχ2 values>5%,and all are significantly younger than their host rock formation ages,indicating that the samples have experienced post-formation thermal history.Based on the AFT results and topography characteristics in the Huangshan pluton,three zones with different denudation intensities caused by the differential uplift of the fault blocks were recognized in this paper,indicating that denudation was driven by the increase in elevation significantly.Modeling of the AFT data shows that the earlier cooling phase took place in the early Cenozoic and involved 3.3,3.8 and 6.0°C/Ma of cooling rates equivalent to the exhumation rates of 90,104 and 167 m/Ma in different fault blocks.The last phase of cooling took place from~10 Ma with average cooling rate of~5.6°C/Ma,equivalent to average denudation rates of~156 m/Ma.The fission track results imply that the regional compression field plays an important role for the differential exhumation between individual fault blocks of the Huangshan pluton. | ZHENG Yong YU XinQi YUAN WanMing WANG De'En JIANG GongBing ZHU DeLai WANG Cheng JIA YingYing | 2011 | Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,4: | 3 |
