| 2 | Temperature and substrate availability regulate soil respiration in the tropical mountain rainforests,Hainan Island,China显示文摘Aims Tropical forest plays a key role in global C cycle;however,there are few studies on the C budget in the tropical rainforests in Asia.This study aims to(i)reveal the seasonal patterns of total soil respiration(R_(T)),litter respiration(R_(L))and soil respiration without surface organic litter(R_(NL))in the primary and secondary Asian tropical mountain rainforests and(ii)quantify the effects of soil temperature,soil moisture and substrate availability on soil respiration.Methods The seasonal dynamics of soil CO_(2) efflux was measured by an automatic chamber system(Li-8100),within the primary and secondary tropical mountain rainforests located at the Jianfengling National Reserve in Hainan Island,China.The litter removal treatment was used to assess the contribution of litter to belowground CO_(2) production.Important Findings The annual R_(T) was higher in the primary forest(16.73±0.87 Mg C ha−1)than in the secondary forest(15.10±0.26 Mg C ha−1).The rates of R_(T),R_(NL) and R_(L) were all significantly higher in the hot and wet season(May–October)than those in the cool and dry season(November–April).Soil temperature at 5cm depth could explain 55–61%of the seasonal variation in R_(T),and the temperature sensitivity index(Q_(10))ranked by R_(L)(Q_(10)=3.39)>R_(T)(2.17)>R_(NL)(1.76)in the primary forest and by R_(L)(4.31)>R_(T)(1.86)>R_(NL)(1.58)in the secondary forest.The contribution of R_(L) to R_(T) was 22–23%,while litter input and R_(T) had 1 month time lag.In addition,the seasonal variation of R_(T) was mainly determined by soil temperature and substrate availability.Our findings suggested that global warming and increased substrate availability are likely to cause considerable losses of soil C in the tropical forests. | Zhang Zhou Lai Jiang Enzai Du Huifeng Hu Yide Li Dexiang Chen Jingyun Fang | 2013 | Journal of Plant Ecology2013,6,5: | 8 |
| 3 | Three-dimensional large-aperture lens antennas with gradient refractive index显示文摘We propose an accurate method for designing three-dimensional(3D)large-aperture metamaterial slab lens antennas with gradient refractive index(GRIN).According to the geometric optics,Fermat principle,ray-tracing technique and impedance matching,the 3D GRIN slab lenses with large apertures are accurately designed and simulated.With the aid of the efective medium theory,an X-band and a Ku-band conical horn antennas loaded with the 3D GRIN slab lenses of 250-mm diameter are experimentally realized using the drilling-hole technique on the printed circuit boards(PCBs)as the unit cells of metamaterials.Compared to the traditional dielectric lens with the same aperture,the proposed antennas have very good performance with high directivity,and the gain is increased by 2 to 5 dB.Using the same method,we design and realize a huge-aperture GRIN lens in the X band with a diameter of 1000 mm,which is composed of nearly one millions of inhomogeneous unit cells of square-ring resonators and dielectric blocks with drilling holes.Due to the huge aperture size,the electromagnetic ray paths inside and outside of the GRIN lens are verifed and optimized using the ray tracing technique.Measurement results show good performance of the proposed antenna with high directivity. | ZHOU XiaoYang ZOU XiaYing YANG Yan MA HuiFeng CUI TieJun | 2013 | Science China(Information Sciences)2013,56,12: | 3 |
| 4 | Species richness and composition of shrub-encroached grasslands in relation to environmental factors in northern China显示文摘Aims Shrub encroachment has taken place in many of China’s northern grasslands.This study attempts to answer the following questions:which plant communities are present in these shrub-encroached grasslands(SEGs)?What are the species richness and composition of these communities?Which environmental factors determine the spatial distribution thereof?Methods We investigated the community characteristics of 255 SEG plots with a size of 20 m×20 m at 69 locations across grasslands in northern China.In each plot,paired 1-m^(2) quadrats were estab-lished within shrub patches and the neighbouring grassy matrix to record herb species composition.The quantitative character-istics(abundance,coverage and height)of herbs were meas-ured in 0.25-m2 subquadrats,and soil samples were collected in the quadrats.Two-way indicator species analysis(TWINSPAN),detrended canonical analysis(DCA)and canonical correspond-ence analysis(CCA)were used for community clustering and ordination.Important Findings The DCA and TWINSPAN results suggested that the SEGs in northern China can be divided into six community types:Potentilla fruticosa+Carex atrofusca,Spiraea hypericifolia+Festuca ovina,Caragana acanthophylla+Stipa sareptana,Caragana microphylla+Leymus chinensis,Caragana microphylla+Stipa klemenzii and Caragana tibetica+Cleistogenes songorica.At a regional scale,climate and soil nutrients controlled the spatial patterns of species richness and community composition of the SEGs in northern China.Temperature exerted a negative impact,whereas precipitation and nutrients had positive effects on species richness.Among the environmental factors used,climate was the major controller of the variations in commu-nity structure.These results provide new insights into the community composition of SEGs in China and enrich the global dataset of SEGs. | Luhong Zhou Haihua Shen Leiyi Chen He Li Pujin Zhang Xia Zhao Taoyu Liu Shangshi Liu Aijun Xing Huifeng Hu Jingyun Fang | 2019 | Journal of Plant Ecology2019,12,1: | 3 |
| 5 | The origin and evolution of the diosgenin biosynthetic pathway in yam显示文摘Diosgenin,mainly produced by Dioscorea species,is a traditional precursor of most hormonal drugs in the pharmaceutical industry.The mechanisms that underlie the origin and evolution of diosgenin biosynthesis in plants remain unclear.After sequencing the whole genome of Dioscorea zingiberensis,we revealed the evolutionary trajectory of the diosgenin biosynthetic pathway in Dioscorea and demonstrated the de novo biosynthesis of diosgenin in a yeast cell factory.First,we found that P450 gene duplication and neofunctionalization,driven by positive selection,played important roles in the origin of the diosgenin biosynthetic pathway.Subsequently,we found that the enrichment of diosgenin in the yam lineage was regulated by CpG islands,which evolved to regulate gene expression in the diosgenin pathway and balance the carbon flux between the biosynthesis of diosgenin and starch.Finally,by integrating genes fromplants,animals,and yeast,weheterologously synthesized diosgenin to 10mg/l in genetically-engineered yeast.Our study not only reveals the origin and evolutionary mechanisms of the diosgenin biosynthetic pathway in Dioscorea,but also introduces an alternative approach for the production of diosgenin through synthetic biology. | Jian Cheng Jing Chen Xiaonan Liu Xiangchen Li Weixiong Zhang Zhubo Dai Lina Lu Xiang Zhou Jing Cai Xueli Zhang Huifeng Jiang Yanhe Ma | 2021 | Plant Communications2021,2,1: | 2 |

[Method]Taking chemical agents( triadimefon,armure,Jinggangmycin) as main treatments and spraying periods( within 7 d before initial heading stage,within 7 d before initial heading stage + initial heading stage,initial heading stage) as assisted treatments,the field efficacy trial and optimum control period of U. virens in single cropping middle-late rice were studied using Huanghuazhan and Jinnongsimiao as experimental materials in 2013. [Result] Three chemical agents,triadimefon,armure,Jinggangmycin,extremely reduced diseased panicle rate and disease index of U. virens,but there was no significant difference among three chemical agents. Spraying period did not have significant impact on diseased panicle rate and disease index of U. virens,whereas spraying within7 d before initial heading stage and during initial heading stage had relatively good control effect. Yield increased significantly after application of three chemical agents,and armure led to greater increase. The reason for yield increase was that seed setting rate was significantly increased,and the number of filled grains per panicle was significantly increased. Although spraying period influenced yield,the difference was not significant. [Conclusion] Triadimefon,armure and Jinggangmycin had good control effects against U. virens in single cropping middle-late rice,of which armure had better control effects. Spraying chemical agents increased seed setting rate,and further increased the number of filled grains per panicle and yield. | 13 | N-acetylaspartylglutamate Inhibits Heroin Self-Administration and Heroin-Seeking Behaviors Induced by Cue or Priming in Rats显示文摘Activation of presynaptic group II metabotropic glutamate receptors(mGluR2/3) inhibits drug reward and drug-seeking behavior, but the role of N-acetylaspartylglutamate(NAAG), an agonist of endogenous mGluR2/3,in heroin reward and heroin-seeking behavior remained unclear. Here, we aimed to explore the effects of exogenous NAAG on heroin self-administration and heroinseeking behavior. First, rats were trained to self-administer heroin under a fixed ratio 1(FR1) schedule for 10 days,then received NAAG(50 or 100μg/10 μL in each nostril)in the absence or presence of LY341495(1 mg/kg, i.p.), an antagonist of mGluR2/3, on day 11 and the effects of NAAG on heroin self-administration under FR1 were recorded for 3 consecutive days. Motivation was assessed in heroin self-administration under a progressive ratio schedule on day 11 in another 5 groups with the same doses of NAAG. Additional rats were withdrawn for 14 days after 14 days of heroin self-administration, then received the same pharmacological pretreatment and were tested for heroin-seeking behaviors induced by heroin priming or cues. The results showed that intranasal administration of NAAG significantly decreased intravenous heroin selfadministration on day 12, but not on day 11. Pretreatment with LY341495 prior to testing on day 12 prevented the inhibitory effect of NAAG on heroin reinforcement. The break-point for reward motivation was significantly reduced by NAAG. Moreover, NAAG also significantly inhibited the heroin-seeking behaviors induced by heroinpriming or cues and these were restored by pretreatment with LY341495.
