1Climate Sensitivity and Feedbacks of BCC-CSM to Idealized CO2 Forcing from CMIP5 to CMIP6显示文摘Climate sensitivity represents the response of climate system to doubled CO2 concentration relative to the preindustrial level, which is one of the sources of uncertainty in climate projections. It is unclear how the climate sensitivity and feedbacks will change as a model system is upgraded from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5(CMIP5) to CMIP6. In this paper, we address this issue by comparing two versions of the Beijing Climate Center Climate System Model(BCC-CSM) participating in CMIP6 and CMIP5, i.e., BCC-CSM2-MR and BCC-CSM1.1 m,which have the same horizontal resolution but different physical parameterizations. The results show that the equilibrium climate sensitivity(ECS) of BCC-CSM slightly increases from CMIP5(2.94 K) to CMIP6(3.04 K). The small changes in the ECS result from compensation between decreased effective radiative forcing(ERF) and the increased net feedback. In contrast, the transient climate response(TCR) evidently decreases from 2.19 to 1.40 K, nearly the lower bound of the CMIP6 multimodel spread. The low TCR in BCC-CSM2-MR is mainly caused by the small ERF overly even though the ocean heat uptake(OHU) efficiency is substantially improved from that in BCC-CSM1.1 m.Cloud shortwave feedback(λSWCL) is found to be the major cause of the increased net feedback in BCC-CSM2-MR,mainly over the Southern Ocean. The strong positive λSWCL in BCC-CSM2-MR is coincidently related to the weakened sea ice-albedo feedback in the same region. This result is caused by reduced sea ice coverage simulated during the preindustrial cold season, which leads to reduced melting per 1-K global warming. As a result, in BCCCSM2-MR, reduced surface heat flux and strengthened static stability of the planetary boundary layer cause a decrease in low-level clouds and an increase in incident shortwave radiation. 2Quantitative effects of phase transition on solute partition coefficient,inclusion precipitation, and microsegregation for high-sulfur steel solidification显示文摘Segregation and inclusion precipitation are the common behaviours of steel solidification, which are resulted from the redistribution and diffusion of the solute elements at the solid-liquid interface. The effect of the phase transition of high-sulfur free-cutting steel is quantified in the present work for the solute partition coefficient(ki), inclusion precipitation, and microsegregation by establishing a coupling model of microsegregation and inclusion precipitation, wherein the quantified dependencies of ki in terms of temperature, phase and carbon(C) content were applied. Results showed that the solidification temperature range and phase transition of high-sulfur steel that under different solidification paths and C contents were quite different, leading to differences in ki and eventually in microsegregation. kC,kP, and kS were mainly affected by phase composition and kSi was primarily by temperature, while kMn depended on both phase composition and temperature during solidification. Increasing the C content within the interval 0.07-0.48 wt%, the ‘proportion of the δ phase maintained temperature region during solidification’(Pδ), kave Pand kave S(kiave, the average value of the ki across the whole stages of solidification)decreased monotonically, whereas kave Cincreased linearly. The peritectic reaction impacted on the phase composition and ki, leading to the change in microsegregation. Such effect of the peritectic reaction was more significant at the last stage of solidification. When the Pδ was between 75% and 100%(corresponding to 0.07-0.16 wt% C), the solidification path resulted in a greater effect on the microsegregation of solutes C, P, and S because of the peritectic reaction. The microsegregation of solutes Mn and S were comprehensively influenced by kMn, kS and Mn S precipitation as well. 4Large-scale achromatic flat lens by light frequency-domain coherence optimization显示文摘Flat lenses,including metalens and diffractive lens,have attracted increasing attention due to their ability to miniaturize the imaging devices.However,realizing a large scale achromatic flat lens with high performance still remains a big challenge.Here,we developed a new framework in designing achromatic multi-level diffractive lenses by light coherence optimization,which enables the implementation of large-scale flat lenses under non-ideal conditions.As results,a series achromatic polymer lenses with diameter from 1 to 10mm are successfully designed and fabricated.The subsequent optical characterizations substantially validate our theoretical framework and show relatively good performance of the centimeter-scale achromatic multi-level diffractive lenses with a super broad bandwidth in optical wavelengths(400-1100 nm).After comparing with conventional refractive lens,this achromatic lens shows significant advantages in white-light imaging performance,implying a new strategy in developing practical planar optical devices.Xingjian Xiao Yunwei Zhao Xin Ye Chen Chen Xinmou Lu Yansen Rong Junhong Deng Guixin Li Shining Zhu Tao Li 2022Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,12:2
5Interannual variability of thermal front west of Luzon Island in boreal winter显示文摘Interannual variability of thermal front west of Luzon Island during the winter of 1993–2013 is examined with the method of singular value decomposition(SVD) and a suite of satellite measurements in this paper. It is found that both the area and intensity of the thermal front west of Luzon Island show apparent interannual variability.Further study based on SVD shows that the interannual variability of the thermal front is highly associated with El Ni?o and Southern Oscillation(ENSO), and the correlation coefficient between Ni?o3.4 index and the first Principal Component(PC1) of thermal front can reach –0.65. The mechanism can be described as follows. 6Strength-Toughening Model of Eutectic Ceramic Composite with Inherent Defects显示文摘Strengthening and toughening mechanisms in composite ceramics is complex. A change in a single parameter induces multiple property variations. The multiple changes in properties are often incompletely represented in theoretical models. This incompleteness in the parameter chosen fails to explain the mechanism of failure in composite ceramics. The exponential toughness function is used to represent the pull-out toughening mechanism, which dominates the crack growth resistance curve(R-curve). The strengthening-toughening model is established based on the Mori-Tanaka method(M-T method). The influence of inherent defects on toughness function and strength is analyzed by using this model. The theoretical result is compared with the experiment data. This model exactly reflects the change in strength. The theoretical result indicates that defects change the toughness function. Moreover, micro-cracks increase toughness size ac, and the strength of crack instable extensions acutely decreases as defect content increases. 13Reversible Aggregation Kinetics of Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-N-vinylpyrrolidone) in Aqueous Solutions Revealed by Elastic Light Scattering Spectroscopy显示文摘Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-N-vinylpyrrolidone) [P(NIPAM-co-NVP)] copolymers with different content of N-vinylpyrrolidone (NVP) were synthesized, and reversible aggregation kinetics of the copolymers in aqueous solutions was investigated with elastic light scattering (ELS) spectra. The results indicated that the apparent activation energy of aggregation process during heating and dissociation process during cooling increased with the NVP content increasing. The phase transition temperature also increased as the content of NVP increased, suggesting that the hydrophilic nature of NVP strongly affected the phase behavior of the copolymer solutions. The higher the content of NVP, the higher the temperature required to break the balance between the hydrophilic and hydrophobic interaction.
