| 1 | Simultaneous removal of chromium and arsenate from contaminated groundwater by ferrous sulfate:Batch uptake behavior显示文摘Chromium and/or arsenate removal by Fe(II) as a function of pH,Fe(II) dosage and initial Cr(VI)/As(V) ratio were examined in batch tests.The presence of arsenate reduced the removal efficiency of chromium by Fe(II),while the presence of chromate significantly increased the removal efficiency of arsenate by Fe(II) at pH 6-8.In the absence of arsenate,chromium removal by Fe(II) increased to a maximum with increasing pH from 4 to 7 and then decreased with a further increase in pH.The increment in Fe(II) dosage resulted in an improvement in chromium removal and the improvement was more remarkable under alkaline conditions than that under acidic conditions.Chromium removal by Fe(II) was reduced to a larger extent under neutral and alkaline conditions than that under acidic conditions due to the presence of 10 μmol/L arsenate.The presence of 20 μmol/L arsenate slightly improved chromium removal by Fe(II) at pH 3.9-5.8,but had detrimental effects at pH 6.7-9.8.Arsenate removal was improved significantly at pH 4-9 due to the presence of 10 μmol/L chromate at Fe(II) dosages of 20-60 μmol/L.Elevating the chromate concentration from 10 to 20 μmol/L resulted in a further improvement in arsenate removal at pH 4.0-4.6 when Fe(II) was dosed at 30-60 μmol/L. | Xiaohong Guan Haoran Dong Jun Ma Irene M. | 2 | SARS-CoV-2 promotes RIPK1 activation to facilitate viral propagation显示文摘Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),is the ongoing global pandemic that poses substantial challenges to public health worldwide.A subset of COVID-19 patients experience systemic inflammatory response,known as cytokine storm,which may lead to death.Receptor-interacting serine/threonine-protein kinase 1(RIPK1)is an important mediator of inflammation and cell death.Here,we examined the interaction of RIPK1-mediated innate immunity with SARS-CoV-2 infection.We found evidence of RIPK1 activation in human COVID-19 lung pathological samples,and cultured human lung organoids and ACE2 transgenic mice infected by SARS-CoV-2.Inhibition of RIPK1 using multiple smallmolecule inhibitors reduced the viral load of SARS-CoV-2 in human lung organoids.Furthermore,therapeutic dosing of the RIPK1 inhibitor Nec-1s reduced mortality and lung viral load,and blocked the CNS manifestation of SARS-CoV-2 in ACE2 transgenic mice.Mechanistically,we found that the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase of SARS-CoV-2,NSP12,a highly conserved central component of coronaviral replication and transcription machinery,promoted the activation of RIPK1.Furthermore,NSP12323L variant,encoded by the SARS-CoV-2 C14408T variant first detected in Lombardy,Italy,that carries a Pro323Leu amino acid substitution in NSP12,showed increased ability to activate RIPK1.Inhibition of RIPK1 downregulated the transcriptional induction of proinflammatory cytokines and host factors including ACE2 and EGFR that promote viral entry into cells.Our results suggest that SARS-CoV-2 may have an unexpected and unusual ability to hijack the RIPK1-mediated host defense response to promote its own propagation and that inhibition of RIPK1 may provide a therapeutic option for the treatment of COVID-19. | Gang Xu Ying Li Shengyuan Zhang Haoran Peng Yunyun Wang Dekang Li Taijie Jin Zhuohao He Yilun Tong Chunting Qi Guowei Wu Kangyun Dong Jizhou Gou Yang Liu Tongyang Xiao Jing Qu Liang Li Liang Liu Ping Zhao Zheng Zhang Junying Yuan | 2021 | Cell Research2021,31,12: | 6 |

| 5 | Ameliorative effects of potassium on drought-induced decreases in fiber length of cotton(Gossypium hirsutum L.) are associated with osmolyte dynamics during fiber development显示文摘Fiber length of cotton(Gossypium hirsutum L.)decreases under drought stress,potassium(K)could diminish the decreased caused by drought,but the mechanism associated with this alleviation effect is not clear.We evaluated the effect of K on fiber elongation using two cotton cultivars,Simian 3 and Siza 3,grown in well-watered and drought-stressed conditions.Potassium fertilizer(K2O)was applied 0,150,or 300 kg ha?1 in each growing condition.Drought stress reduced the final fiber length due to a decline in the maximum rate of rapid elongation(Vmax,mmday?1).The application of K alleviated the droughtinduced fiber length reduction by increasing Vmax.At 10 and 15 days post-anthesis(DPA),drought significantly reduced osmotic potential(OP)and increased K+and malate contents at all K rates,relative to well-watered conditions,which was associated with increased activities of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase(PEPC),V-ATPase,PPase,and PM H+-ATPase in cotton fiber.However,the relative contribution of K+and malate to OP declined under drought in comparison with well-watered condition.Compared with control without K,K application decreased OP and increased the accumulation of osmolytes(K+,malate and soluble sugar)as well as the activities of related enzymes in fiber irrespective of water treatments.Moreover,K application increased osmotic adjustment during drought,and improved the contribution of K+and malate to OP,especially under drought stress.This study showed that drought decreased fiber length by reducing Vmax,and K application ameliorates the decline in fiber elongation due to drought by enhancing osmolytes accumulation and their contribution to OP in fiber cells. | Wenqing Zhao Haoran Dong Rizwan Zahoor Zhiguo Zhou John L.Snider Yinglong Chen Kadambot H.M.Siddique Youhua Wang | 2019 | The Crop Journal2019,7,5: | 4 |
| 6 | Three Tiaobu Feishen therapies protect human alveolar epithelial cells against cigarette smoking and tumor necrosis factor-mlear factor-kappa B pathwayα-induced inflamation by nuc显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy of Tiaobu Feishen formulae(TBFS), including Bufei Jianpi formula(BJF), Bufei Yishen formula(BYF), and Yiqi Zishen formula(YZF), on inflammatory response, protease-anti-protease imbalance and collagen deposition in rats.METHODS: In present work, we used an in vitro model of cigarette smoking extract(CSE)-and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)-induced A549 cellsto examine the efficacy of BJF, BYF and YZF on the production of inflammatory cytokines, including TNF-α and interleukin(IL)-8, IL-6, matrix metalloproteinases(MMP)-9, and IL-10 in CSE or TNF-ls. And their related transcripα-induced A549 celtion factors and signaling pathway were also analyzed.RESULTS: The results showed that BJF, BYF and YZF could significantly decrease the expression levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokines induced by CSE or TNF-α. Furthermore, BJF, BYF and YZF could suppress CSE-or TNF-α-induced activation of nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-κB) transcription factors and its corresponding pathways. Taken together, these data implied that BJF, BYF and YZF effectively inhibited CSE-or TNF-α-induced inflammatory response in alveolar epithelial cell, which was due to their inhibition effect on NF-κB pathways.CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that the Tiaobu Feishen therapies may protect human alveolar epithelial cells against cigarette smoking and TNF-α-induced inflammation. | 7 | Bionic SERS chip with super-hydrophobic and plasmonic micro/nano dual structure显示文摘Natural surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy(SERS) chips based on plants or insects have gained increased attention due to their facile characteristics and low costs. However, such chips remain a major challenge for practical application because of poor reproducibility and stability as well as unavoidable damage to the surface structure during coating metal and uncontrolled dehydration. By using a simple wrinkling method, we develop a new route to fabricate a low-cost bionic SERS chip for practical detection. Inspired by the taro leaf, we fabricate a SERS chip with a super-hydrophobic and plasmonic micro/nano dual structure, and its structure parameters can be optimized. Compared with the natural taro-leaf SERS chip, our artificial chip exhibits Raman signals with an order of magnitude higher sensitivity(~10^(-9)M) and enhancement factor(~10~7) under the illumination of weak laser radiation, demonstrating that our SERS chip has great potential in biological detection. The excellent performances of our bionic SERS chip are attributed to a synergy of optimized micro-wrinkle and nano-nest, which is verified by experiment and simulation. | 9 | Interaction between Cu^(2+) and different types of surface-modified nanoscale zero-valent iron during their transport in porous media显示文摘This study investigated the interaction between Cu^(2+)and nano zero-valent iron(NZVI)coated with three types of stabilizers(i.e., polyacrylic acid [PAA], Tween-20 and starch) by examining the Cu^(2+) uptake, colloidal stability and mobility of surface-modified NZVI(SM-NZVI) in the presence of Cu^(2+). The uptake of Cu^(2+)by SM-NZVI and the colloidal stability of the Cu-bearing SM-NZVI were examined in batch tests. The results showed that NZVI coated with different modifiers exhibited different affinities for Cu^(2+), which resulted in varying colloidal stability of different SM-NZVI in the presence of Cu^(2+). The presence of Cu^(2+)exerted a slight influence on the aggregation and settling of NZVI modified with PAA or Tween-20. However, the presence of Cu^(2+)caused significant aggregation and sedimentation of starch-modified NZVI, which is due to Cu^(2+)complexation with the starch molecules coated on the surface of the particles. Column experiments were conducted to investigate the co-transport of Cu^(2+) in association with SM-NZVI in water-saturated quartz sand. It was presumed that a physical straining mechanism accounted for the retention of Cu-bearing SM-NZVI in the porous media. | 16 | The SACT Template:A Human Brain Diffusion Tensor Template for School-age Children显示文摘School-age children are in a specific development stage corresponding to juvenility,when the white matter of the brain experiences ongoing maturation.Dffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging(DWI),especially diffusion tensor imaging(DTI),is extensively used to characterize the maturation by assessing white matter properties in vivo.In the analysis of DWI data,spatial normalization is crucial for conducting inter-subject analyses or linking the individual space with the reference space.Using tensor-based registration with an appropriate diffusion tensor template presents high accuracy regarding spatial normalization.However,there is a lack of a standardized diffusion tensor template dedicated to school-age children with ongoing brain development.Here,we established the school-age children diffusion tensor(SACT)template by optimizing tensor reorientation on high-quality DTI data from a large sample of cognitively normal participants aged 6-12 years.With an age-balanced design,the SACT template represented the entire age range well by showing high similarity to the age-specific templates.Compared with the tensor template of adults,the SACT template revealed significantly higher spatial normalization accuracy and inter-subject coherence upon evaluation of subjects in two different datasets of schoolage children.A practical application regarding the age associations with the normalized DTI-derived data was conducted to further compare the SACT template and the adult template.Although similar spatial patterns were found,the SACT template showed significant effects on the distributions of the statistical results,which may be related to the performance of spatial normalization.Looking forward,the SACT template could contribute to future studies of white matter development in both healthy and clinical populations.The SACT template is publicly available now(tp://igshare com/aricles/dataseu'SACT_.template/14071283). | Congying Chu Haoran Guan Sangma Xie Yanpei Wang Jie Luo Gai Zhao Zhiying Pan Mingming Hu Weiwei Men Shuping Tan Jia-Hong Gao Shaozheng Qin Yong He Lingzhong Fan Qi Dong Sha Tao | 2022 | Neuroscience Bulletin2022,38,6: | 1 |

| 19 | Geochronology and Geochemistry of Early Cretaceous Granitic Plutons in the Xing’an Massif, Great Xing’an Range, NE China: Petrogenesis and Tectonic Implications显示文摘In this study, we present zircon U-Pb ages, whole-rock geochemical data and Hf isotopic compositions for the Meiguifeng and Arxan plutons in Xing’an Massif, Great Xing’an Range, which can provide important information in deciphering both Mesozoic magmatism and tectonic evolution of NE China. The zircon U-Pb dating results indicate that alkali feldspar granite from Meiguifeng pluton was emplaced at ~145 to 137 Ma, and granite porphyry of Arxan pluton was formed at ~129 Ma. The Meiguifeng and Arxan plutons have similar geochemical features, which are characterized by high silica, total alkalis, differentiation index, with low P2O5, CaO, MgO, TFe2O3 contents. They belong to high-K calc-alkaline series, and show weakly peraluminous characteristics. The Meiguifeng and Arxan plutons are both enriched in LREEs and LILEs(e.g., Rb, Th, U and K), and depleted in HREEs and HFSEs(e.g., Nb, Ta and Ti). Combined with the petrological and geochemical features, the Meiguifeng and Arxan plutons show highly fractionated I-type granite affinity. Moreover, the Meiguifeng and Arxan plutons may share a common or similar magma source, and they were probably generated by partial melting of Neoproterozoic high-K basaltic crust. Meanwhile, plagioclase, K-feldspar, biotite, apatite, monazite, allanite and Ti-bearing phases fractionated from the magma during formation of Meiguifeng and Arxan plutons. Combined with spatial distribution and temporal evolution, we assume that the generation of Early Cretaceous Meiguifeng and Arxan plutons in Great Xing’an Range was closely related to the break-off of Mudanjiang oceanic plate.
