1Response to paleoatmospheric CO_2 concentration of Solenites vimineus(Phillips)Harris(Ginkgophyta)from the Middle Jurassic of the Yaojie Basin,Gansu Province,China显示文摘Solenites vimineus (Phillips) Harris (Ginkgophyta) specimens with well-preserved cuticles were collected from five different beds in the oil shale member of the Middle Jurassic Yaojie Formation in the Yaojie Basin, Gansu Province, northwestern China. Gross morphology and fine structures of the fossil leaves were studied, and stomatal parameters were analyzed, according to which, the paleoatmospheric CO2 concentration can be deduced as 1512-1896 ppm that would have caused an increase in mean temperature of about 6.5-7.4℃. Carbon isotopes from the fossils indicate that the carbon isotopic discrimination and water use efficiency (WUE) of S. vimineus were raised nearly obtaining the ideal physiologic state in increased CO2 concentrations and temperature conditions, suggesting that S. vimineus records the paleoenvironmental information of the Middle Jurassic Yaojie Basin and can be used for environmental reconstruction.YAN DeFei SUN BaiNian XIE SanPing LI XiangChuan WEN WenWen 2009Science China Earth Sciences2009,52,12:13
2Altitudinal variation in Ginkgo leaf characters: Clues to paleoelevation reconstruction显示文摘After detailed studies of leaf area, leaf shape index, petiole length, stomatal density, stomatal index, and carbon isotope discrimination of Ginkgo biloba L., growing in Northwest China, the change trends of these parameters with an altitude gradient and their differences between sun and shade leaves were assessed. The results show that leaf area, petiole length, and stomatal parameters have no obvious linear relationship with altitude, but the carbon isotope discrimination shows a negative correlation with altitude, which has a potential to be an applicable paleo-altimeter. The results also suggest that the differences in stomatal density and stomatal index between sun and shade leaves had more influence on paleoelevation reconstruction than that in other parameters. Based on the linear and nonlinear correlations between carbon isotope discrimination and altitude, the paleoelevation evolution during the Middle Jurassic of the Yaojie Basin, Lanzhou in Gansu Province was estimated. 3Betulinic acid induces apoptosis of gallbladder cancer cells via repressing SCD1显示文摘Gallbladder cancer(GBC)is the most common and aggressive malignancy of the biliary tract.Betulinic acid(BetA)has been reported to have anti-inflammatory and antitumor effects;however,the effect of BetA on GBC is still unknown.In this study,we investigated the effect of BetA on five GBC cell lines and found that BetA significantly inhibited the proliferation of NOZ cells but had lttle inhibitory effect on other GBC cells.BetA disturbed mitochondrial membrane potential and induced apoptosis in NOZ cells.Real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis revealed that stearoyl-coenzyme A desaturase 1(SCD1)was highly expressed in NOZ cells but low expressed in other GBC cells.BetA inhibited SCD1 expression in a concentration-dependent manner in NOZ cells.Downregulation of SCD1 expression by RNA interference inhibited the proliferation of NOZ cells and induced cell apoptosis.Moreover,BetA inhibited the growth of xenografted tumors and suppressed SCD1 expression in nude mice.Thus,our results showed that BetA induced apoptosis through repressing SCD1 expression in GBC,suggesting that BetA might be an effective agent for the treatment of patients with GBC that highly expresses SCD1.Hongfei Wang Fangxiao Dong Ye Wang Xu'an Wang Defei Hong Yingbin Liu Jian Zhou 2020Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2020,52,2:6

6Fossil Liverworts from the Lower Cretaceous Huolinhe Formation in Inner Mongolia, China显示文摘A new genus and species, Rebouliothallus huolinhensis sp. nov., and two uncertain species, Ricciopsis sp. and Hepaticites sp., are described. The fossils were collected from the Lower Cretaceous Huolinhe Formation of Huolinhe Basin, northeastern China. The new genus Rebouliothallus was established in the Aytoniaceae family of Marchantiales. Rebouliothallus huolinhensis appears to be quite similar to species of the extant genus Reboulia Raddi. The species is characterized by the relatively large ventral scales. Ventral scales are large, imbricate and arranged in two rows on the ventral surface. Rhizoids are either pegged or smooth. Ricciopsis sp. is characterized by the rosetteforming thallus. Hepaticites sp. shows some similarities to liverworts. Of the forty-nine Early Cretaceous floras of China, only two floras, one from the Huolinhe basin, Inner Mongolia and the other from the Jixi Basin, Heilongjiang Province, contain fossil liverworts. 7Buxus Leaves from the Oligocene of Guangxi, China and Their Biogeographical Significance显示文摘The present paper reports two new species of Buxus from the Oligocene Ningming Formation of Guangxi, South China, on the basis of several compressed fossil leaves.Buxus ningmingensis sp.nov.is characterized by an elliptic to ovate shape; pinnate venation with marginal secondary, long hairs on the adaxial side of the midvein base; and amphistomatic, anomocytic stomata with a prominent outer ring.All of these characteristics suggest a closest affinity to the living Buxus microphylla subsp.sinica.Another new species identified as Buxus preaustro-yunnanensis sp.nov.is characterized by the diagnostic formation of its admedially branched tertiaries, the trunks of which are often strongly thickened by sclereides.This species is most similar to the extant Buxus austroyunnanensis.The co-occurrence of Buxus ningmingensis sp.nov.and Buxus preaustro-yunnanensis sp.nov.suggests that these two Buxus lived during the Oligocene under a warm, tropical to subtropical climate, similar to the current climate of Ningming.Our findings provide the earliest fossil evidence of Buxus leaves with detailed illustrations of leaf architectural and cuticular features.The occurrence of these two species indicates that Buxus began to diversify in Guangxi no later than the Oligocene.MA Fujun WANG Qiujun DONG Junling YANG Yi WANG Wenjia YAN Defei SUN Bainian 2015Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2015,89,5:2

9An exceptionally well-preserved herbaceous eudicot from the Early Cretaceous(late Aptian–early Albian)of Northwest China显示文摘A fossil eudicot, Gansufructus saligna gen. et sp. nov., is reported from the Early Cretaceous(late Aptian–early Albian) of the Gansu Province, Northwest China, based on numerous well-preserved axes with attached leaves and infructescences. The leaves are alternate, short petiolate and linear-lanceolate with low rank pinnate to reticulate venation. The infructescences are loose panicles bearing fruits in different stages of maturity, each containing four partly free carpels borne in a whorled arrangement. Each carpel has three to five seeds borne along its ventral margin. The nature of the leaves and axes indicates a terrestrial,herbaceous habit. 11Construction and application of high-quality genome-scale metabolic model of Zymomonas mobilis to guide rational design of microbial cell factories显示文摘High-quality genome-scale metabolic models(GEMs)could play critical roles on rational design of microbial cell factories in the classical Design-Build-Test-Learn cycle of synthetic biology studies.Despite of the constant establishment and update of GEMs for model microorganisms such as Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae,high-quality GEMs for non-model industrial microorganisms are still scarce.Zymomonas mobilis subsp.mobilis ZM4 is a non-model ethanologenic microorganism with many excellent industrial characteristics that has been developing as microbial cell factories for biochemical production.Although five GEMs of Z.mobilis have been constructed,these models are either generating ATP incorrectly,or lacking information of plasmid genes,or not providing standard format file.In this study,a high-quality GEM iZM516 of Z.mobilis ZM4 was constructed.The information from the improved genome annotation,literature,datasets of Biolog Phenotype Microarray studies,and recently updated Gene-Protein-Reaction information was combined for the curation of iZM516.Finally,516 genes,1389 reactions,1437 metabolites,and 3 cell compartments are included in iZM516,which also had the highest MEMOTE score of 91%among all published GEMs of Z.mobilis.Cell growth was then predicted by iZM516,which had 79.4%agreement with the experimental results of the substrate utilization.In addition,the potential endogenous succinate synthesis pathway of Z.mobilis ZM4 was proposed through simulation and analysis using iZM516.Furthermore,metabolic engineering strategies to produce succinate and 1,4-butanediol(1,4-BDO)were designed and then simulated under anaerobic condition using iZM516.The results indicated that 1.68 mol/mol succinate and 1.07 mol/mol 1,4-BDO can be achieved through combinational metabolic engineering strategies,which was comparable to that of the model species E.coli.Our study thus not only established a high-quality GEM iZM516 to help understand and design microbial cell factories for economic biochemical production using Z.mobilis as the chassis,but also provided guidance on building accurate GEMs for other non-model industrial microorganisms.Yalun Wu Qianqian Yuan Yongfu Yang Defei Liu Shihui Yang Hongwu Ma 2023Synthetic and Systems Biotechnology2023,8,3:0
12Development and Application of a High-Volume Recycled Powder Solidifying Material for Waterworks Sludge显示文摘Recycled powder(RP)is produced as a by-product during the process of recycling construction and demolition(C&D)wastes,presenting a low additional value.Using RP-based solidifying material can not only improve its utilization efficiency,but also reduce the cost of commercial solidifying materials.To date,this is the best solidifying material utilized to dispose the original waterworks sludge(OWS)with high moisture contents(60%),and the product could be used to fabricate non-fired bricks.This has become a new environment-friendly technology of“using waste to treat waste”.In this paper,the influence of different particle sizes and dosages of RP on the prepared solidifying material was studied.Besides,unconfined compression strength(UCS),volume stability,chemical composition,and heat of hydration,pore structure of the solidifying material were characterized.Then,non-fired bricks were prepared by using the solidifying material,recycled aggregate,and original waterworks sludge.The UCS and softing coefficient(SC)of the non-fired bricks were evaluated.As a result,the 28-day UCS of the solidifying material with optimal(M30)was 35.40 MPa,which could reach 84.37%of Portland cement(PC).The addition of RP increased the volume stability of the solidifying material.The addition of a large amount of RP reduced the heat flux and cumulative heat release of the solidifying material,while its porosity increased.The UCS of non-fired brick(NF20)in 28 days was 15.19 MPa and the SC after 28 days was 78.35%.In conclusion,the preparation of solidifying material using RP could be a promising approach and has a great potential in disposal of original waterworks sludge.Xiang Deng Sudong Hua Fan Xia Yanfang Zhang Dapeng Guo Xinxing Zhu Defei Zhu 2022Journal of Renewable Materials2022,10,4:0
