1Top-dressing nitrogen fertilizer rate contributes to decrease culm physical strength by reducing structural carbohydrate content in japonica rice显示文摘Lodging is an important factor limiting rice yield and quality by bending or breaking stem in japonica rice(Oryza sativa L.) production. The objectives of this study were to determine the mechanism of lodging resistance in japonica rice as affected by carbohydrate components, especially its related arrangement in culm tissue and response to top-dressing nitrogen(N) fertilizer. Field experiments were conducted in Danyang County, Jiangsu Province, China, by using two japonica rice varieties Wuyunjing 23(lodging-resistance variety) and W3668(lodging-susceptible variety) with three top-dressing N fertilizer rates(0, 135 and 270 kg N ha^(–1)) in 2013 and 2014. Lodging related physical parameters, morphological characteristics and stem carbohydrate components were investigated at 30 d after full heading stage. Results showed that with increasing N fertilizer rates, the lodging rate and lodging index increased rapidly primarily due to significant reduction of breaking strength in two japonica rice varieties. Correlation analysis revealed that breaking strength was significantly and positively correlated with bending stress, but negatively correlated with section modulus, except for significant correlation at W3668 in 2014. Higher stem plumpness status and structural carbohydrate contents significantly enhanced stem stiffness, despite of lower non-structural carbohydrate. With higher N fertilizer rate, the culm wall thickness was almost identical, and culm diameter increased slightly. The structural carbohydrates, especially for lignin content in culm, reduced significantly under high N rate. Further histochemical staining analysis revealed that high N treatments decreased the lignin deposition rapidly in the sclerenchyma cells of mechanical tissue, large vascular bundle and small vascular bundle region, which were consistent with reduction of bending stress, especially for W3668 and thus, resulted in poor stem strength and higher lodging index. These results suggested that structural carbohydrate plays a vital role for improving stem strength in japonica rice. 2Predictive value of immune cell counts and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio for 28-day mortality in patients with sepsis caused by intra-abdominal infection显示文摘Background:The current study aimed to evaluate the value of immune cell counts and neutrophilto-lymphocyte ratio(NLR)when attempting to predict 28-day mortality.Methods:We conducted an observational retrospective study that included consecutive septic patients.Severity scores on the first day and peripheral circulating immune cell counts(at day 1,day 3,day 5 and day 7 of admission)were collected during each patient’s emergency intensive care unit stay.We assessed the associations of peripheral circulating immune cell counts and NLR with the severity of illness.The relationships between 28-day mortality and peripheral circulating immune cell counts and NLR with were evaluated using Cox proportional cause-specific hazards models.Results:A total of 216 patients diagnosed with sepsis caused by IAI were enrolled.The lymphocyte counts(days 1,3,5 and 7)and monocyte counts(days 3,5 and 7)were significantly lower in nonsurvivors(n=72)than survivors(n=144).The NLR values at each time point were significantly higher in non-survivors.The day 1 lymphocyte counts,as well as the monocyte counts,were significantly lower in the highest-scoring group,when stratified by the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment scores,than in the other groups(p<0.05).The day 1 NLR was significantly higher in the highest-scoring group than in the other groups(p<0.05).The day 5 and day 7 lymphocyte counts,day 3 and day 7 monocyte counts and day 7 NLR were significant predictors of 28-day mortality in the Cox proportional hazards models(day 5 lymphocyte count:hazard ratio,0.123(95%CI,0.055–0.279),p<0.001;day 7 lymphocyte count:hazard ratio,0.115(95%CI,0.052–0.254),p<0.001;day 3 monocyte count:hazard ratio,0.067(95%CI,0.005–0.861),p=0.038;day 7 monocyte count:hazard ratio,0.015(95%CI,0.001–0.158),p<0.001;day 7 NLR:hazard ratio,0.773(95%CI,0.659–0.905),p=0.001).Conclusions The results showed that circulating lymphocytes and monocytes were dramatically decreased within 7 days in non-survivors following sepsis from an IAI.Lymphocyte counts,monocyte counts and NLR appeared to be associated with the severity of illness,and they may serve as independent predictors of 28-day mortality in septic patients with IAIs.Shuangqing Liu Yuxuan Li Fei She Xiaodong Zhao Yongming Yao 2021Burns & Trauma2021,9,1:6

6The heterogeneity of islet autoantibodies and the progression of islet failure in type 1 diabetic patients显示文摘Type 1 diabetes mellitus is heterogeneous in many facets. The patients suffered from type 1 diabetes present several levels of islet function as well as variable number and type of islet-specific autoantibodies. This study was to investigate prevalence and heterogeneity of the islet autoantibodies and clinical phenotypes of type 1 diabetes mellitus; and also discussed the process of islet failure and its risk factors in Chinese type 1 diabetic patients. A total of 1,291 type 1 diabetic patients were enrolled in this study. Demographic information was collected. Laboratory tests including mixed-meal tolerance test, human leukocyte antigen alleles, hemoglobin A1 c, lipids, thyroid function and islet autoantibodies were conducted. The frequency of islet-specific autoantibody in newly diagnosed T1 DM patients(duration shorter than half year) was 73% in East China. According to binary logistic regressions, autoantibody positivity, longer duration and lower Body Mass Index were the risk factors of islet failure. As the disease developed, autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase declined as well as the other two autoantibodies against zinc transporter 8 and islet antigen 2. The decrease of autoantibodies was positively correlated with aggressive beta cell destruction. Autoantibodies can facilitate the identification of classic T1 DM from other subtypes and predict the progression of islet failure. 8Tailoring of electromagnetic field localizations by twodimensional graphene nanostructures显示文摘Graphene has great potential for enhancing light−matter interactions in a two-dimensional regime due to surface plasmons with low loss and strong light confinement.Further utilization of graphene in nanophotonics relies on the precise control of light localization properties.Here,we demonstrate the tailoring of electromagnetic field localizations in the mid-infrared region by precisely shaping the graphene into nanostructures with different geometries.We generalize the phenomenological cavity model and employ nanoimaging techniques to quantitatively calculate and experimentally visualize the two-dimensional electromagnetic field distributions within the nanostructures,which indicate that the electromagnetic field can be shaped into specific patterns depending on the shapes and sizes of the nanostructures.Furthermore,we show that the light localization performance can be further improved by reducing the sizes of the nanostructures,where a lateral confinement of λ0/180 of the incidence light can be achieved.The electromagnetic field localizations within a nanostructure with a specific geometry can also be modulated by chemical doping.Our strategies can,in principle,be generalized to other two-dimensional materials,therefore providing new degrees of freedom for designing nanophotonic components capable of tailoring two-dimensional light confinement over a broad wavelength range.Ze-Bo Zheng Jun-Tao Li Teng Ma Han-Lin Fang Wen-Cai Ren Jun Chen Jun-Cong She Yu Zhang Fei Liu Huan-Jun Chen Shao-Zhi Deng Ning-Sheng Xu 2017Light(Science & Applications)2017,6,1:2

11Prophylactic juxtapapillary laser photocoagulation in pediatric morning glory syndrome显示文摘AIM:To determine the anatomic and visual outcomes of prophylactic juxtapapillary laser photocoagulation treatment alone in the prevention of retinal detachment(RD)in a cohort of pediatric patients diagnosed with morning glory syndrome(MGS).METHODS:A total of 24 eyes of 22 consecutive patients aged 0-15 y diagnosed with MGS treated with prophylactic juxtapapillary laser photocoagulation alone were reviewed.Data including demographics,ocular examination,anatomic and visual outcomes,following treatment and complications were collected.RESULTS:Two patients had bilateral laser treatment and 20 had monocular laser treatment.The age at treatment of 13(59.1%)patients was less than 12 mo.The presenting symptoms included strabismus(6/22,27.3%),decreased vision(2/22,9.1%),and routine fundus screening(14/22,63.6%).Fifteen(68.2%)patients underwent cranial magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)examinations,and 3 of those 15(20.0%)had abnormal findings in the nervous system.Based on preoperative wide-field fundus photography and B-scan echography,all(100.0%)eyes had no obvious RD.On postoperative 1 mo and 6 mo and the following follow-ups,the anatomic outcomes of all eyes remained stable.The mean follow-up duration was 27.7±17.5 mo.No severe complications were found.Preoperative visual acuity acquired from 2(9.1%)patients ranged from light perception to 20/200.Postoperative acuity acquired from 11(50.0%)patients ranged from light perception to 20/125.CONCLUSION:The preliminary anatomic and visual outcomes of prophylactic juxtapapillary laser treatment alone in pediatric MGS patients are relatively stable in a short-term follow-up.Further long-term clinical observation will be needed to confirm its efficacy and safety.Yi-Hua Zou Kai-Qin She Jia-Ning Ren Ting-Yi Liang Ping Fei Yu Xu Jing Li Xiang Zhang Jie Peng Pei-Quan Zhao 2022International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2022,15,5:1

15Co-seismic Coulomb stress changes on the northern Tanlu fault zone caused by the Tohoku-Oki M_(W)9.0 earthquake显示文摘Based on the spherical earth dislocation theory and a fault slip model of the Tohoku-Oki M_(W)9.0 earthquake,the co-seismic Coulomb failure stress changes(ΔCFS)on the northern Tanlu fault zone at depths of 0–40 km are calculated.By comparing two sets of results from the spherical earth dislocation theory and the semi-infinite space one,the effect of earth curvature on the calculation results is analyzed quantitatively.First,we systematically summarize previous researches related to the northern Tanlu fault zone,divide the fault zone as detailed as possible,give the geometric parameters of each segment,and establish a segmented structural model of the northern Tanlu fault zone.Second,we calculate the Coulomb stress changes on the northern Tanlu fault zone by using the spherical earth dislocation theory.The result shows the Coulomb stress changes are no more than 0.003 MPa,which proves the great earthquake did not significantly change the stress state of the fault zone.Finally,we quantitatively analyze the disparities between the results of semi-infinite space dislocation theory and the spherical earth one.The average disparity between them is about 7.7%on the northern Tanlu fault zone and is 16.8%on the Fangzheng graben,the maximum disparity on this graben reaches up to 25.5%.It indicates that the effect of earth curvature can not be ignored.So it’s necessary to use the spherical earth dislocation theory instead of the semi-infinite space one to study the Coulomb stress change in the far field.Fei Chen Tai Liu Yawen She Xing Huang Guangyu Fu 2020Earthquake Science2020,33,1:1

20Antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity response to SARS-CoV-2 in COVID-19 patients显示文摘Antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity(ADCC)responses to viral infection are a form of antibody regulated immune responses mediated through the Fc fragment.Whether severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)triggered ADCC responses contributes to COVID-19 disease development is currently not well understood.To understand the potential correlation between ADCC responses and COVID-19 disease development,we analyzed the ADCC activity and neutralizing antibody response in 255 individuals ranging from asymptomatic to fatal infections over 1 year post disease.ADCC was elicited by 10 days post-infection,peaked by 11-20 days,and remained detectable until 400 days post-infection.In general,patients with severe disease had higher ADCC activities.Notably,patients who had severe disease and recovered had higher ADCC activities than patients who had severe disease and deceased.Importantly,ADCC activities were mediated by a diversity of epitopes in SARS-COV-2-infected mice and induced to comparable levels against SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern(VOCs)(B.1.1.7,B.1.351,and P.1)as that against the D614G mutant in human patients and vaccinated mice.Our study indicates anti-SARS-CoV-2 ADCC as a major trait of COVID-19 patients with various conditions,which can be applied to estimate the extra-neutralization level against COVID-19,especially lethal COVID-19.Yuanling Yu Meiyu Wang Xiaoai Zhang Shufen Li Qingbin Lu Haolong Zeng Hongyan Hou Hao Li Mengyi Zhang Fei Jiang Jiajing Wu Ruxia Ding Zehua Zhou Min Liu Weixue Si Tao Zhu Hangwen Li Jie Ma Yuanyuan Gu Guangbiao She Xiaokun Li Yulan Zhang Ke Peng Weijin Huang Wei Liu Youchun Wang 2021Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2021,6,10:0
