| 1 | Protective effects of Lingguizhugan decoction on amyloid-beta peptide (25-35)-induced cell injury Anti-inflammatory effects显示文摘In the present study, a human neuroblastoma cell line (SH-SY5Y) and BV-2 microglia were treated with amyloid-β peptide (25-35) , as a model of Alzheimer's disease, to evaluate the protective effects of 10-3-10-8 g/mL Lingguizhugan decoction and to examine the underlying anti-inflammatory mechanism. Lingguizhugan decoction significantly enhanced the viability of SH-SY5Y cells with amyloid-β peptide-induced injury, and lowered levels of interleukin-1β, interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-α and nitric oxide in the culture supernatant of activated BV-2 microglia. The effects of 10-3 g/mL Lingguizhugan decoction were more significant. | 2 | Dihydroartemisinin regulates the immune system by promotion of CD8^+T lymphocytes and suppression of B cell responses显示文摘Artemisia annua is an anti-fever herbal medicine first described in traditional Chinese medicine 1,000 years ago.Artemisinin,the extract of A.annua,and its derivatives(dihydroartemisinin(DHA),artemether,and artesunate)have been used for the treatment of malaria with substantial efficacy.Recently,DHA has also been tested for the treatment of lupus erythematosus,indicating that it may function to balance the immune response in immunocompromised individuals.In the present study,the regulatory effect of artemisinin on the murine immune system was systematically investigated in mice infected with two different protozoan parasites(Toxoplasma gondii and Plasmodium berghei).Our results revealed that the mouse spleen index significantly increased(spleen enlargement)in the healthy mice after DHA administration primarily due to the generation of an extra number of lymphocytes and CD8^+T lymphocytes in both the spleen and circulation.DHA could increase the proportion of T helper cells and CD8^+T cells,as well as decrease the number of splenic and circulatory B cells.Further,DHA could reduce the production of proinflammatory cytokines.Our study revealed that apart from their anti-parasitic activity,artemisinin and its derivatives can also actively modulate the immune system to directly benefit the host. | Ting Zhang Yiwei Zhang Ning Jiang Xu Zhao Xiaoyu Sang Na Yang Ying Feng Ran Chen Qijun Chen | 2020 | Science China(Life Sciences)2020,63,5: | 12 |

| 4 | MPK14-mediated auxin signaling controls lateral root development via ERF13-regulated very-long-chain fatty acid biosynthesis显示文摘Auxin plays a critical role in lateral root(LR)formation.The signaling module composed of auxin-response factors(ARFs)and lateral organ boundaries domain transcription factors mediates auxin signaling to control almost every stage of LR development.Here,we show that auxin-induced degradation of the APETALA2/Ethylene Responsive Factor(AP2/ERF)transcription factor ERF13,dependent on MITOGENACTIVATED PROTEIN KINASE MPK14-mediated phosphorylation,plays an essential role in LR development.Overexpression of ERF13 results in restricted passage of the LR primordia through the endodermal layer,greatly reducing LR emergence,whereas the erf13 mutants showed an increase in emerged LR.ERF13 inhibits the expression of 3-ketoacyl-CoA synthase16(KCS16),which encodes a fatty acid elongase involved in very-long-chain fatty acid(VLCFA)biosynthesis.Overexpression of KCS16 or exogenous VLCFA treatment rescues the LR emergence defects in ERF13 overexpression lines,indicating a role downstream of the auxin-MPK14-ERF13 signaling module.Collectively,our study uncovers a novel molecular mechanism by which MPK14-mediated auxin signaling modulates LR development via ERF13-regulated VLCFA biosynthesis. | Bingsheng Lv Kaijing Wei Kongqin Hu Te Tian Feng Zhang Zipeng Yu Dajian Zhang Yinghua Su Yalin Sang Xiansheng Zhang Zhaojun Ding | 2021 | Molecular Plant2021,14,2: | 6 |

| 6 | Vegetation and climate changes during the last 8660 cal.a BP in central Mongolia,based on a high-resolution pollen record from Lake Ugii Nuur显示文摘Based on modern pollen studies and reliable chronology of nine AMS 14C dates, a detailed history of vegetation and climate changes during the past 8660 cal. a BP was reconstructed by a high-resolution pollen record from Ugii Nuur in central Mongolia. Poaceae-steppe dominated the study area and the climate was mild and semi-humid before 7800 cal. a BP with a noticeable cool and humid interval at 8350―8250 cal. a BP. Xerophytic plant increased and the climate became warm and dry gradually since 7800 cal. a BP. From 6860 to 3170 cal. a BP, semi-desert steppe expanded, suggesting a prolonged warm and dry climate. Between 3170 and 2340 cal. a BP, regional forest steppe expanded whereas semi-desert steppe retreated, indicating the climate became cool and wet gradually and the humidity reached the maximum at the end of this stage. From 2340 to 1600 cal. a BP, a general cool and wet climate prevailed. And the climatic instability increased after 1600 cal. a BP. Review of regional pub-lished palaeoclimatic records implies that the mid-Holocene dry climate might have prevailed in vast areas from central Mongolia to arid areas of northwest China. Pollen-based climate reconstruction for UG04 core was well correlated with the result of climate model on Central Asia by Bush. | 7 | Identification and gene mapping of a narrow and upper-albino leaf mutant in rice(Oryza sativa L.)显示文摘The leaf blade consists of color and shape traits.Studies of leaf-blade development are important for improvement of rice yield and quality because it is an essential organ for photosynthesis.A narrow and upper-albino leaf mutant(nul1) was identified from among progeny of the indica restorer line Jinhui10 raised from seeds treated with ethyl methane sulfonate.Under field conditions,the mutant displayed narrow and upper-albino leaf blades with significantly decreased photosynthetic pigment contents throughout their development.The narrow-leaf trait is caused by a decreased number of small veins.In contrast to the wild type,the growth period was extended by approximately 8 d and agronomic traits,such as effective panicle number,percentage seed set and 1000-grain weight,declined significantly in the nul1 mutant.Genetic analysis suggested that the narrow and upper-albino leaf characteristics showed coseparation and were controlled by one recessive gene.The Nul1 gene was mapped onto chromosome 7 between the Indel marker Ind07-1 and the Simple Sequence Repeat marker RM21637.The physical distance between the markers was 75 kb and eight genes were annotated in this region based on the rice Nipponbare genome sequence.These results provide a foundation for cloning and function analysis of Nul1. | WANG Feng TANG YanQiang MIAO RunLong XU FangFang LIN TingTing HE GuangHua SANG XianChun | 2012 | Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,28: | 4 |
| 8 | Four-dimensional matrix Walsh transform for lossless compression of color video显示文摘This article presents a coding method for the lossless compression of color video. In the proposed method, four-dimensional matrix Walsh transform (4D-M-Walsh-T) is used for color video coding. The whole n frames of a color video sequence are divided into ‘3D-blocks’ which are image width (row component), image height (column component), image width (vertical component) in a color video sequence, and adjacency (depth component) of n frames (Y, U or V) of the video sequence. Similar to the method of 2D-Walsh transform, 4D-M-Walsh-T is 4D sub-matrices, and the size of each sub-matrix is n. The method can fully utilize correlations to encode for lossless compression and reduce the redundancy of color video, such as adjacent pixels in one frame or different frames of a video at the same time. | 11 | Calcium ion pinned vanadium oxide cathode for high-capacity and long-life aqueous rechargeable zinc-ion batteries显示文摘Rechargeable aqueous zinc ion batteries (ZIBs),with the easy operation,cost effectiveness,and high safety,are emerging candidates for high-energy wearable/portable energy storage systems.Unfortunately,the unsatisfactory energy density and undesired long-term cycling performance of the cathode hinder the development of ZIBs.Here,we report the chemical preintercalation of a small amount of calcium ions into V2O5 as the cathode material.The cathode of Ca0.04V2O5·1.74H2O (CVO)was demonstrated to have a high specific capacity of 400 mA h g^-1at the current density of 0.05 A g^-1and 187 mA h g^-1at 10 A g^-1,along with impressive capacity retention (100%capacity retention at 10 A g^-1 for 3,000 cycles).Meanwhile,the CVO//Zn battery exhibits a high energy density of 308 Wh kg^-1and a power density of 467 W kg^-1at 0.5 A g^-1.The superior performance originates from the pinning effect of the calcium ions and the lubricating effect of the structural water.The energy storage mechanism of the CVO cathode was also investigated in detail.The new phase (Zn3(OH)2V2O7·2H2O) generated upon cycling participates in the electrochemical reaction and thus contributes to the excellent electrochemical performance.The small amount of Ca^2+ pre-inserted into the interlayer of V2O5 sheds light on constructing cathodes with high energy density for ZIBs. | Min Du Feng Zhang Xiaofei Zhang Wentao Dong Yuanhua Sang Jianjun Wang Hong Liu Shuhua Wang | 2020 | Science China Chemistry2020,63,12: | 2 |

| 13 | Highly coordinated Pd overlayers on nanoporous gold for efficient formic acid electro-oxidation显示文摘Design and fabrication of highly efficient and stable electrocatalysts remain key challenges in green energy technologies such as low-temperature direct liquid fuel cells.Based on in-depth theoretical calculations,here we demonstrate that surface Pd atoms with high coordination numbers(HCNs)can effectively modulate their adsorption energies for CO and OH,and thus achieve very high performance for formic acid electro-oxidation reaction(FAOR).Based on epitaxial coating Pd atomic layers onto nanoporous gold(NPG)thin membranes and a slight further decoration of Au clusters on top,the resulted core-shell structured NPG-Pd-Au electrocatalyst can demonstrate Pd intrinsic and mass activities of 8.62 mA·cm^(-2)and 27.25 A·mg^(-1)respectively at the peak potential around 0.33 V versus saturated calomel electrode toward FAOR,which are far better than those of commercial Pd/C catalysts(1.09 mA·cm^(-2)and 0.32 A·mg^(-1))tested under the same conditions.Moreover,the membrane electrode assemblies based on these low precious metal loading electrodes can achieve an anode Pd power efficiency over 10 W·mg^(-1)in a direct formic acid fuel cell,which is two orders of magnitude higher than that of the commercial Pd/C.These results provide new inspirations for the development of revolutionary electrodes for energy technologies in a rational manner. | Qinqin Sang Shuai Yin Feng Liu Huiming Yin Jia He Yi Ding | 2021 | Nano Research2021,14,10: | 2 |
| 14 | Clinical application of traditional herbal medicine in five countries and regions: Japan;South Korea;China's Mainland;Hong Kong, China;Taiwan, China显示文摘Objective:To study the characteristics of the clinical application of traditional herbal medicine in five countries and regions where traditional medicine(TM)is widely used:Japan;South Korea;China's Mainland;Hong Kong,China;Taiwan,China.And to analyze,from multiple angles,the variations in the methods of TM used in each countries and regions.Methods:Fifty commonly used traditional herbs(TOP50)from classical formulae were selected,and descriptive statistics,correlation analyses,and Friedman test were used to compare methods of clinical application and dosages in the countries and regions of interest based on a retrospective review of randomly-selected medical records.Results:There were significant differences in sequencing TOP50 among the five countries and regions(P<.01).The adherence to the classical formulae,from strong to weak was Japan;China's Mainland;Taiwan,China;Hong Kong,China;South Korea.There were also significant differences in TOP50 dosing regimens(P<.01).Overall dosages of TOP50 from high to low were:China's Mainland;Hong Kong,China;Taiwan,China;South Korea;Japan.Finally,there were significant differences in the dosage intervals(P<.01),with dosage intervals from maximum to minimum as follows:China's Mainland;Taiwan,China;Hong Kong,China;South Korea;Japan.Conclusions:The clinical dosages of traditional herbal medicine used in the China's Mainland are relatively large compared with those prescribed in the other four countries and regions,and the range of dosages in China's Mainland is more flexible.On the other hand,clinical dosages of TOP50 are the lowest in Japan,where the dosage range is also the narrowest,supporting the idea that Doctors of Kampo medicine are highly cautious and are likely to adhere strictly to classical formulae,while Hong Kong,China and Taiwan,China are in the middle.The dosage of TOP50 in South Korea is significantly lower than that used in the China's Mainland;Hong Kong,China and Taiwan,China where the adherence to the classical formulae was the lowest,albeit slightly higher than that in Japan.The methods of clinical application of traditional herbal medicine in the five countries and regions were affected by multiple factors,including history,geography,climate,and culture. | Liming Chen Yanling Fu Lin Zhang Sijia Zhao Qing Feng Yihua Cheng Tosha Yanai Daji Xu Mingyu Luo Sang Woo An Woong Seok Lee Seong Hoon Cho Byung Wook Lee | 2015 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences2015,2,3: | 1 |
