| 1 | Seroepidemiological Investigation of Lyme Disease and Human Granulocytic Anaplasmosis among People Living in Forest Areas of Eight Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Lyme disease and Human granulocytic anaplasmosis are tick‐borne diseases caused by Borrelia burgdorferi and Anaplasma phagocytophilum respectively. We have investigated infection and co-infection of the two diseases in the population of forest areas of eight provinces in China by measuring seroprevalence of antibodies against B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum. Methods Forest areas in 8 provinces were chosen for investigation using whole sampling and questionnaire survey methods. 3 669 serum samples from people in the forest areas were tested for the presence of antibodies by indirect immunofluorescent assay (IFA). Results Seroprevalence against B. burgdorferi was 3% to 15% and against A. phagocytophilum was 2% to 18% in the study sites in the 8 provinces in China. We also found co-infection of B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum in 7 of the 8 provinces (the exception being the Miyun area in Beijing). The seroprevalence for both B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum was significantly higher among people exposed to ticks than among people who were not exposed to ticks. | 2 | Effect of liniment levamisole on cellular immune functions of patients with chronic hepatitis B显示文摘AIM: To explore the effects of liniment levamisole on cellular immune functions of patients with chronic hepatitis B. METHODS: The levels of T lymphocyte subsets and mlL-2R in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were measured by biotin-streptavidin (BSA) technique in patients with chronic hepatitis B before and after the treatment with liniment levamisole. RESULTS: After one course of treatment with liniment levamisole, the levels of CD3+, CD4+, and the ratio of CD4+/CD8+ increased as compared to those before the treatment but the level of CD8+ decreased. The total expression level of mIL-2R in PBMCs increased before and after the treatment with liniment levamisole. | 3 | Aloin Protects Against Blood-Brain Barrier Damage After Traumatic Brain Injury in Mice显示文摘Aloin is a small-molecule drug well known for its protective actions in various models of damage.Traumatic brain injury(TBI)-induced cerebral edema from secondary damage caused by disruption of the blood-brain barrier(BBB) often leads to an adverse prognosis.Since the role of aloin in maintaining the integrity of the BBB after TBI remains unclear,we explored the protective effects of aloin on the BBB using in vivo and in vitro TBI models.Adult male C57 BL/6 mice underwent controlled cortical impact injury,and mouse brain capillary endothelial bEnd.3 cells underwent biaxial stretch injury,then both received aloin treatment.In the animal experiments,we found 20 mg/kg aloin to be the optimum concentration to decrease cerebral edema,decrease disruption of the BBB,and improve neurobehavioral performance after cortical impact injury.In the cellular studies,the optimum concentration of 40 μg/mL aloin reduced apoptosis and reversed the loss of tight junctions by reducing the reactive oxygen species levels and changes in mitochondrial membrane potential after stretch injury.The mechanisms may be that aloin downregulates the phosphorylation of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase,the activation of p65 nuclear factor-kappa B,and the ratios of B cell lymphoma(Bcl)-2-associated X protein/Bcl-2 and cleaved caspase-3/caspase-3.We conclude that aloin exhibits these protective effects on the BBB after TBI through its anti-oxidative stress and anti-apoptotic properties in mouse brain capillary endothelial cells.Aloin may thus be a promising therapeutic drug for TBI. | Yao Jing Dian-Xu Yang Wei Wang Fang Yuan Hao Chen Jun Ding Zhi Geng Heng-Li Tian | 2020 | Neuroscience Bulletin2020,36,6: | 9 |
| 4 | Diabetes inhibits corneal epithelial cell migration and tight junction formation in mice and human via increasing ROS and impairing Akt signaling显示文摘Corneal wounds usually heal quickly;but diabetic patients have more fragile corneas and experience delayed and painful healing. In the present study, we compared the healing capacity of corneal epithelial cells (CECs) between normal and diabetic conditions and the potential mechanisms. Primary murine CEC derived from wild-type and diabetic (db/db) mice, as well as primary human CEC were prepared. Human CEC were exposed to high glucose (30 mM) to mimic diabetic conditions. Cell migration and proliferation were assessed using Scratch test and MTT assays, respectively. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in the cells was measured using dichlorofluorescein reagent. Western blot was used to evaluate the expression levels of Akt. Transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER) and zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1) expression were used to determine tight junction integrity. We found that the diabetic CEC displayed significantly slower cell proliferation and migration compared with the normal CEC from both mice and humans. Furthermore, ROS production was markedly increased in CEC grown under diabetic conditions. Treatment with an antioxidant N-acetyl cysteine (NAC, 100 μM) significantly decreased ROS production and increased wound healing in diabetic CEC. Barrier function was significantly reduced in both diabetic mouse and human CEC, while NAC treatment mitigated these effects. We further showed that Akt signaling was impaired in diabetic CEC, which was partially improved by NAC treatment. These results show that diabetic conditions lead to delayed wound-healing capacity of CEC and impaired tight junction formation in both mice and human. | 6 | A Study of the Technique of Western Blot for Diagnosis of Lyme Disease caused by Borrelia afzelii in China显示文摘Objective To study the technique of Western blot for the diagnosis of Lyme disease caused by Borrelia afzelii in China and to establish the standard criteria by operational procedure. Methods FP1, which is the representative strain of B. afzelii in China, was analyzed by SDS‐PAGE, electro transfer and immunoblotting assays. The molecular weights of the protein bands of FP1 were analyzed by Gel‐Pro analysis software. In a study using 451 serum samples (159 patients with Lyme disease and 292 controls), all observed bands were recorded. The accuracy of the WB as a diagnostic test was established by using the ROC curve and Youden index. Results Criteria for a positive diagnosis of Lyme disease were established as at least one band of P83/100, P58, P39, OspB, OspA, P30, P28, OspC, P17, and P14 in the IgG test and at least one band of P83/100, P58, P39, OspA, P30, P28, OspC, P17, and P41 in the IgM test. For IgG criteria, the sensitivity, specificity and Youden index were 69.8%, 98.3%, and 0.681, respectively; for IgM criteria, the sensitivity, specificity and Youden index were 47%, 94.2%, and 0.412, respectively. | 7 | Decreased nitrous oxide emissions associated with functional microbial genes under bio-organic fertilizer application in vegetable fields显示文摘Bio-organic fertilizers enriched with plant growth-promoting microbes(PGPMs)have been widely used in crop fields to promote plant growth and maintain soil microbiome functions.However,their potential effects on N_(2)O emissions are of increasing concern.In this study,an in situ measurement experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of organic fertilizer containing Trichoderma guizhouense(a plant growth-promoting fungus)on soil N_(2)O emissions from a greenhouse vegetable field.The following four treatments were used:no fertilizer(control),chemical fertilizer(NPK),organic fertilizer derived from cattle manure(O),and organic fertilizer containing T.guizhouense(O+T,referring to bio-organic fertilizer).The abundances of soil N cycling-related functional genes(amoA)from ammonium-oxidizing bacteria(AOB)and archaea(AOA),as well as nirS,nirK,and nosZ,were simultaneously determined using quantitative PCR(qPCR).Compared to the NPK plot,seasonal total N_(2)O emissions decreased by 11.7%and 18.7%in the O and O+T plots,respectively,which was attributed to lower NH_(4)^(+)-N content and AOB amoA abundance in the O and O+T plots.The nosZ abundance was significantly greater in the O+T plot,whilst the AOB amoA abundance was significantly lower in the O+T plot than in the O plot.Relative to the organic fertilizer,bio-organic fertilizer application tended to decrease N_(2)O emissions by 7.9%and enhanced vegetable yield,resulting in a significant decrease in yield-scaled N_(2)O emissions.Overall,the results of this study suggested that,compared to organic and chemical fertilizers,bio-organic fertilizers containing PGPMs could benefit crop yield and mitigate N_(2)O emissions in vegetable fields. | Yajun GENG Yiming YUAN Yingcheng MIAO Junzhang ZHI Mengyuan HUANG Yihe ZHANG Hong WANG Qirong SHEN Jianwen ZOU Shuqing LI | 2021 | Pedosphere2021,31,2: | 7 |
| 8 | Effects of surfactants on graphene oxide nanoparticles transport in saturated porous media显示文摘Transport behaviors of graphene oxide nanoparticles(GONPs) in saturated porous media were examined as a function of the presence and concentration of anionic surfactant(SDBS)and non-ionic surfactant(Triton X-100) under different ionic strength(IS). The results showed that the GONPs were retained obviously in the sand columns at both IS of 50 and200 mmol/L, and they were more mobile at lower IS. The presence and concentration of surfactants could enhance the GONP transport, particularly as observed at higher IS. It was interesting to see that the GONP transport was surfactant type dependent, and SDBS was more effective to facilitate GONP transport than Triton X-100 in our experimental conditions. The advection–dispersion–retention numerical modeling followed this trend and depicted the difference quantitatively. In the nonrelativistic effective field theory approach, both time-integrated and annual modulation analyses were used to set new limits for the coupling of WIMP-nucleon effective operators at 90% confidence level(C.L.) and improve over the current bounds in the low mχregion. In the chiral effective field theory approach, data from CDEX-10 were used to set an upper limit on WIMP-pion coupling at 90% C.L. | 12 | Reliability assessment and correlation analysis of evaluating orthodontic treatment outcome in Chinese patients显示文摘This study aimed to assess the reliability of experienced Chinese orthodontists in evaluating treatment outcome and to determine the correlations between three diagnostic information sources. Sixty-nine experienced Chinese orthodontic specialists each evaluated the outcome of orthodontic treatment of 108 Chinese patients. Three different information sources: study casts(SC), lateral cephalometric X-ray images(LX) and facial photographs(PH) were generated at the end of treatment for 108 patients selected randomly from six orthodontic treatment centers throughout China. Six different assessments of treatment outcome were made by each orthodontist using data from the three information sources separately and in combination. Each assessment included both ranking and grading for each patient. The rankings of each of the 69 judges for the 108 patients were correlated with the rankings of each of the other judges yielding 13 873 Spearman rs values, ranging from –0.08 to 10.85. Of these, 90% were greater than 0.4, showing moderate-to-high consistency among the 69 orthodontists. In the combined evaluations, study casts were the most significant predictive component(R250.86, P,0.000 1), while the inclusion of lateral cephalometric films and facial photographs also contributed to a more comprehensive assessment(R250.96, P,0.000 1). | 19 | Multifunctional microcapsules:A theranostic agent for US/MR/PAT multi-modality imaging and synergistic chemo-photothermal osteosarcoma therapy显示文摘Development of versatile theranostic agents that simultaneously integrate therapeutic and diagnostic features remains a clinical urgent.Herein,we aimed to prepare uniform PEGylated(lactic-co-glycolic acid)(PLGA)microcapsules(PB@(Fe_(3)O_(4)@PEG-PLGA)MCs)with superparamagnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles embedded in the shell and Prussian blue(PB)NPs inbuilt in the cavity via a premix membrane emulsification(PME)method.On account of the eligible geometry and multiple load capacity,these MCs could be used as efficient multi-modality contrast agents to simultaneously enhance the contrasts of US,MR and PAT imaging.In-built PB NPs furnished the MCs with excellent photothermal conversion property and embedded Fe_(3)O_(4)NPs endowed the magnetic location for fabrication of targeted drug delivery system.Notably,after further in-situ encapsulation of antitumor drug of DOX,(PB+DOX)@(Fe_(3)O_(4)@PEG-PLGA)MCs possessed more unique advantages on achieving near infrared(NIR)-responsive drug delivery and magnetic-guided chemo-photothermal synergistic osteosarcoma therapy.In vitro and in vivo studies revealed these biocompatible(PB+DOX)@(Fe_(3)O_(4)@PEG-PLGA)MCs could effectively target to the tumor tissue with superior therapeutic effect against the invasion of osteosarcoma and alleviation of osteolytic lesions,which will be developed as a smart platform integrating multi-modality imaging capabilities and synergistic effect with high therapy efficacy. | Hufei Wang Sijia Xu Daoyang Fan Xiaowen Geng Guang Zhi Decheng Wu Hong Shen Fei Yang Xiao Zhou Xing Wang | 2022 | Bioactive Materials2022,7,1: | 2 |
