| 1 | Disentangling the effects of topography and space on the distributions of dominant species in a subtropical forest显示文摘Topography and space are two important factors determining plant species assemblages in forest communities.Quantification of the contribution of these two factors in determining species distribution helps us to evaluate their relative importance in determining species assemblages.This study aims to disentangle the effect of topography and space on the distributions of 14 dominant species in a subtropical mixed forest.Spearman correlation analysis and the torustranslation test were used to test the species–habitat associations.Variation partitioning was used to quantify the relative contributions of topography and space at three sampling scales and three life stages.Correlation analyses and torus-translation tests showed species abundance was mostly correlated with topographic wetness index,vertical distance from the channel network and convexity.Variation partitioning showed that pure topography,pure space and spatially structured topography explained about 2.1 %,41.2 % and 13.8 %of the variation in species distributions,respectively.For nine species,total topography fractions peaked in 20 m quadrats.For ten species,the pure space fractions peaked in 50 m quadrats.For many species,the total topography fraction andthe pure space fraction were larger for the most abundant life stages,which reflected the importance of sampling effect.However,some cases did not follow this trend suggesting that the effects of ecological processes such as habitat filtering,density dependence or dispersal limitation may exceed the sampling effects.In conclusion,we found that spatially structured topography and pure space primarily shaped the distribution of dominant tree species.Furthermore,their effects were both scale- and life stage-dependent. | Qinggang Wang Yaozhan Xu Zhijun Lu Dachuan Bao Yili Guo Junmeng Lu Kuihan Zhang Haibo Liu Hongjie Meng Xiujuan Qiao Handong Huang Mingxi Jiang | 2014 | Chinese Science Bulletin2014,59,35: | 16 |

| 4 | Inhibition of growth and metastasis of triple-negative breast cancer targeted by Traditional Chinese Medicine Tubeimu in orthotopic mice models显示文摘Objective: Triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC) is highly invasive and metastatic, which is in urgent need of transformative therapeutics. Tubeimu(TBM), the rhizome of Bolbostemma paniculatum(Maxim.) Franquet, is one of the Chinese medicinal herbs used for breast diseases since the ancient times. The present study evaluated the efficacy, especially the anti-metastatic effects of the dichloromethane extract of Tubeimu(ETBM) on TNBC orthotopic mouse models and cell lines.Methods: We applied real-time imaging on florescent orthotopic TNBC mice model and tested cell migration and invasion abilities with MDA-MB-231 cell line. Digital gene expression sequencing was performed and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG) analysis applied to explore the pathways influenced by ETBM.Moreover, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reactions(q RT-PCR) and Western blot were delivered to confirm the gene expression changes.Results: ETBM exhibited noticeable control on tumor metastasis and growth of TNBC tumors with no obvious toxicity. In compliance with this, it also showed inhibition of cell migration and invasion in vitro. | 8 | Dietary nano-selenium alleviated intestinal damage of juvenile grass carp(Ctenopharyngodon idella)induced by high-fat diet:Insight from intestinal morphology,tight junction,inflammation,anti-oxidization and intestinal microbiota显示文摘In recent years,high-fat diet(HFD)has been widely applied in aquaculture,which reduces the intestinal health of cultured fish.The current study evaluated the protective effects of nano-selenium(nano-Se)on intestinal health of juvenile grass carp(Ctenopharyngodon idella)fed with HFD.A total of 135 experimental fish were fed with a regular diet(Con),a HFD(HFD)and a HFD containing nano-Se at 0.6 mg/kg(HSe)for 10 weeks.The results showed that dietary nano-Se significantly improved the survival rate and feed efficiency which were reduced by HFD in juvenile grass carp(P<0.05).Also,nano-Se(0.6 mg/kg)supplement alleviated intestinal damage caused by the HFD,thus maintaining the integrity of the intestine.Moreover,it significantly up-regulated the expression of genes related to tight junction(ZO-1,claudin-3 and occludin),anti-oxidization(GPx4a and GPx4b),and the protein of ZO-1 in the intestine of juvenile grass carp,which were depressed by the HFD(P<0.05).Furthermore,nano-Se supplementation significantly suppressed the expressions of genes related to the inflammation,including inflammatory cytokines(IL-8,IL-1β,IFN-γ,TNF-αand IL-6),signaling molecules(TLR4,p38 MAPK and NF-kB p65),and protein expression of NF-kB p65 and TNF-αin the intestine of juvenile grass carp which were induced by the HFD(P<0.05).Besides,dietary nano-Se normalized the intestinal microbiota imbalance of juvenile grass carp caused by the HFD through increasing the abundance of the beneficial bacteria,e.g.,Fusobacteria.Finally,dietary nano-Se increased the production of short chain fatty acids(SCFA)in the intestine,especially for butyric acid and caproic acid,which were negatively related to the increase of intestinal permeability and inflammation.In summary,supply of nano-Se(0.6 mg/kg)in HFD could effectively alleviate intestinal injury of juvenile grass carp by improving intestinal barrier function and reducing intestinal inflammation and oxidative stress.These positive effects may be due to the regulation of nano-Se on intestinal microbiota and the subsequently increased beneficial SCFA levels. | Sha Liu Haibo Yu Pengju Li Chi Wang Guohao Liu Xiaotian Zhang Cheng Zhang Meng Qi Hong Ji | 2022 | Animal Nutrition2022,,1: | 4 |

| 10 | Prostate cancer tends to metastasize in the bone-mimicking microenvironment via activating NF-κB signaling显示文摘Prostate cancer preferentially metastasizes to the bone. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms are still unclear. To explore the effects of a bone-mimicking microenvironment on PC3 prostate cancer cell growth and metastasis, we used osteoblast differentiation medium(ODM; minimal essential medium alpha supplemented with L-ascorbic acid) to mimic the bone microenvironment. PC3 cells grown in ODM underwent epithelial-mesenchymal transition and showed enhanced colony formation, migration, and invasion abilities compared to the cells grown in normal medium. PC3 cells grown in ODM showed enhanced metastasis when injected in mice. A screening of signaling pathways related to invasion and metastasis revealed that the NF-κB pathway was activated, which could be reversed by Bay 11-7082, a NF-κB pathway inhibitor. | 20 | Geothermal Power Generation Potential in the Eastern Linqing Depression显示文摘China has been the leading country worldwide in direct geothermal utilization for a rather long time, which has contributed significantly to reducing carbon emissions. But the installed capacity of geothermal power generation in China is very small, and there are only a few geothermal power plants in China, specifically in Tibet, including the well-known Yangbajing geothermal power plant. Therefore, it is anticipated that more high-temperature geothermal resources will be discovered in order to promote China’s power generation. There is potential for high-enthalpy geothermal in the Eastern Linqing Depression in Shandong Province, where geothermal energy is stored in Ordovician and Cambrian carbonate strata. Based on the geothermal gradient in Cenozoic strata and the depth of the target geothermal reservoir, the temperature distribution pattern of the reservoir was analyzed, and two 'sweet points' were identified in the Yucheng geothermal field and the Guanxian geothermal field, where the reservoir temperature is predicted to be higher than 200°C at a depth of less than 8000 m. Due to the low karst fissure ratio and the insufficient geothermal fluid in the geothermal reservoir, it is recommended that an enhanced geothermal system be set up, to increase the permeability of the natural fracture system in the carbonate formations and provide sufficient fluid for power generation through reinjection of used geothermal fluid.
