1Inhibition of FOXO3a/BIM signaling pathway contributes to the protective effect of salvianolic acid A against cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury显示文摘Salvianolic acid A(SalA) is an effective compound extracted from traditional Chinese medicine Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge. The Forkhead box O3a(FOXO3a) signaling pathway plays crucial roles in the modulation of ischemia-induced cell apoptosis. However, no information about the regulatory effect of SalA on FoxO3a is available. To explore the anti-cerebral ischemia effect and clarify the therapeutic mechanism of SalA, SH-SY5Y cells and Sprague–Dawley rats were applied, which were exposed to oxygen glucose deprivation/reoxygenation(OGD/R) and middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion(MCAO/R) injuries, respectively. The involved pathway was identified using the specific inhibitor LY294002. Results showed that SalA concentration-dependently inhibited OGD/R injury triggered cell viability loss. SalA reduced cerebral infarction, lowered brain edema, improved neurological function, and inhibited neuron apoptosis in MCAO/R rats, which were attenuated by the treatment of phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate 3-kinase(PI3K) specific inhibitor LY294002. SalA time-and concentration-dependently upregulated the phosphorylation levels of protein kinase B(AKT) and its downstream protein FOXO3a. Moreover, the nuclear translocation of FOXO3a was inhibited by SalA both in vivo and in vitro, which was also reversed by LY294002. 2Curative effect of scraping therapies on lumbar muscle strain显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To explore factors influencing the curative effect of scraping therapies (at acupoints or along channels) and to determine the relationship of scraping site and strength to curative effect. METHODS: Two hundred and ten patients with lumbar muscle strain were divided into five groups with 42 patients each.The 'scraping therapy at acupoint until appearance of skin eruptions' and 'scraping therapy along channel until appearance of skin eruptions' groups were treated with a 4-daycourse. The 'scraping therapy at acupoint without appearance of skin eruptions', 'scraping therapy along channel without appearance of skin eruptions', and acupuncture groups were treated with a 2-day course.The five groups were treated with seven courses. The visual analog scale (VAS), oswestry disability index (ODI), and lumbago scores were recorded in the five groups before treatment, after each treatment, and in follow-up visits one month and three months after treatment. RESULTS: VAS, ODI, and lumbago scores after treatment improved in the five groups (P<0.01). There was a statistical difference (P<0.01) in the change of VAS scores by appearance of skin eruptions and scraping site. CONCLUSION: Scraping therapy can effectively alleviate lumbago symptoms. 3The corrosion behavior of Ti-6Al-3Nb-2Zr-1Mo alloy:Effects of HCl concentration and temperature显示文摘Investigation about the corrosion behavior of Ti alloys in different ambient environment is of great significance for their practical application.Herein,we systematically investigate the corrosion behavior of a newfound Ti-6 Al-3 Nb-2 Zr-1 Mo(Ti80)alloy in hydrochloric acid(HCl)ranging from 1.37 to 7 M,and temperature ranging from 25 to 55℃,by means of electrochemical measurements,static immersion tests and surface analysis.Results manifest that increasing either HCl concentration or temperature can accelerate the corrosion of Ti80 alloy via promoting the breakdown of native protective oxide film and then further facilitating the active dissolution of Ti80 matrix.According to potentiodynamic polarization curves,Ti80 alloy displays a spontaneous passive behavior in 1.37 M HCl at 25℃,compared to a typical active-passive behavior under the other conditions.As indicated by cathodic Tafel slope,the rate determining step for cathodic hydrogen evolution reaction is likely the discharge reaction step.The apparent activation energies obtained from corrosion current density and maximum anodic current density for Ti80 alloy in 5 M HCl solution are 62.4 and 55.6 kJ mol-1,respectively,which signifies that the rate determining step in the corrosion process of Ti80 alloy is mainly determined by surface-chemical reaction rather than diffusion.Besides,the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests demonstrate that a stable and compact oxide film exists in 1.37 M HCl at 25℃,whereas a porous corrosion product film forms under the other conditions.Overall,the critical HCl concentration at which Ti80 alloy can maintain passivation at 25℃can be determined as a value between 1.37 and 3 M.Furthermore,the corroded surface morphology characterization reveals that equiaxedαphase is more susceptible to corrosion compared to intergranularβphase due to a lower content of Nb,Mo,and Zr in the former.Baoxian Su Binbin Wang Liangshun Luo Liang Wang Yanqing Su Fuxin Wang Yanjin Xu Baoshuai Han Haiguang Huang Jingjie Guo Hengzhi Fu 2021Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,15:5
4Annealed microstructure dependent corrosion behavior of Ti-6Al-3Nb-2Zr-1Mo alloy显示文摘Corrosion resistance of titanium(Ti)alloys is closely connected with their microstructure which can be adjusted and controlled via different annealing schemes.Herein,we systematically investigate the specific effects of annealing on the corrosion performance of Ti-6 Al-3 Nb-2 Zr-1 Mo(Ti80)alloy in 3.5 wt.%NaCl and 5 M HCl solutions,respectively,based on open circuit potential(OCP),potentiodynamic polarization,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS),static immersion tests and surface analysis.Results indicate that increasing annealing tempe rature endows Ti80 alloy with a higher volume fraction ofβphase and finerαphase,which in turn improves its corrosion resistance.Surface characterization demonstrates thatβphase is more resistant to corrosion thanαphase owing to a higher content of Nb,Mo,and Zr in the former;additionally,the decreased thickness of a phase alleviates segregation of elements to further restrain the micro-galvanic couple effects betweenαandβphases.Meanwhile,the influential mechanisms of environmental conditions on corrosion of Ti80 alloy are discussed in detail.As the formation of a highly compact and stable oxide film on surface,annealed Ti80 alloys exhibit a low corrosion current density(10^(-6)A/cm^(2))and high polarization impedance(10^(6)Ω·cm^(2))in 3.5 wt.%NaCl solution.However,they suffer severe corrosion in 5 M HCl solution,resulting from the breakdown of native oxide films(the conversion of TiO_(2)to aqueous Ti^(3+)),active dissolution of substrate Ti to aqueous Ti^(3+)and existence of micro-galvanic couple effects.Those findings could provide new insights to designing Ti alloys with high-corrosion resistance through microstructural optimization.Baoxian Su Liangshun Luo Binbin Wang Yanqing Su Liang Wang Robert O.Ritchie Enyu Guo Ting Li Huimin Yang Haiguang Huang Jingjie Guo Hengzhi Fu 2021Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,3:5
5Development of automatic counting system for urediospores of wheat stripe rust based on image processing显示文摘To realize automatic counting of urediospores of Puccinia striiformis f.sp.tritici(Pst)(causal agent of wheat stripe rust),an automatic counting system for urediospores of wheat stripe rust pathogen based on image processing was developed using MATLAB GUIDE platform in combination with Local C Compiler(LCC).The system is independent of the MATLAB environment and can be run on a computer without the MATLAB software.Using this system,automatic counting of Pst urediospores in a microscopic image can be implemented via image processing technologies including image scaling,clustering segmentation,morphological modification,watershed transformation,connected region labeling,etc.Structure design of the automatic counting system,the key algorithms used in the system and realization of the main functions of the system were described in detail.Spore counting tests were conducted using microscopic digital images of Pst urediospores and the high accuracies more than 95%were obtained.The results indicated that it is feasible to count Pst urediospores automatically using the developed system based on image processing.Li Xiaolong Ma Zhanhong Fernando Bienvenido Qin Feng Wang Haiguang José Antonio Alvarez-Bermejo 2017International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2017,10,5:4
6Comparative transcriptional profiling under drought stress between upland and lowland rice (Oryza sativa L.) using cDNA-AFLP显示文摘The continuous growth of lowland rice (LR) in paddy fields supplied with enough water over the years, and of upland rice (UR) in naturally rain-fed soils, has resulted in greater resistance to drought stress in UR compared to LR. To elucidate their differential regulation mechanisms of drought-resistance, genome-wide transcript regulation under drought stress in UR and LR was investigated using cDNA-AFLP. The results indicated that over 90% of gene expression was not affected by drought stress in the two rice genotypes, more than 8% was regulated by drought stress in both, and less than 1% was specifically expressed in UR or LR. Fifty-seven genes were specifically expressed in UR and thirty-eight specifically in LR. Genes specifically expressed in UR included cell rescue and defence genes functioning in drought-resistance, signal transduction molecules, nucleotides and amino acid biosynthesis genes required for plant growth, and the regulatory genes for growth and development. In LR, genes specifically expressed were related to protein and nucleotide degradation. Some genes were upregulated earlier in UR, and downregulated genes were inclined to be downregulated earlier in UR compared to LR, implying that more rapid regulation mechanisms caused earlier responses of UR to drought stress. Expression levels of upregulated genes in UR were higher than those in LR. 8Embedding ultrasmall Ag nanoclusters in Luria-Bertani extract via light irradiation for enhanced antibacterial activity显示文摘Ultrasmall silver nanoclusters(Ag NCs)with rich surface chemistry and good biocompatibility are promising in antibacterial application,however,further development of Ag NCs for practical settings has been constrained by their relatively weak antibacterial activity.Using the nutritionally-rich medium for bacteria(e.g.,Luria-Bertani(LB)medium)to coat active Ag NCs could further improve their antibacterial activity.Here,we provide a delicate design of a highly efficient Ag NCs@ELB antibacterial agent(ELB denotes the extract of LB medium)by anchoring Ag NCs inside the ELB species via light irradiation.The as-designed Ag NCs with bacterium-favored nutrients on the surface can be easily swallowed by the bacteria,boosting the production of the intracellular reactive oxygen species(ROS,about 2-fold of that in the pristine Ag NCs).Subsequently,a higher concentration of ROS generated in Ag NCs@ELB leads to enhanced antibacterial activity,and enables to reduce the colony forming units(CFU)of both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria with 3–4 orders of magnitude less than that treated with the pristine Ag NCs.In addition,the Ag NCs@ELB also shows good biocompatibility.This study suggests that surface engineering of active species(e.g.,Ag NCs)with nutritionally-rich medium of the bacteria is an efficient way to improve their antibacterial activity.Ziping Wang Yushuang Fang Xianfeng Zhou Zhibo Li Haiguang Zhu Fanglin Du Xun Yuan Qiaofeng Yao Jianping Xie 2020Nano Research2020,13,1:1

12Carbon storage of a subtropical forest ecosystem: a case study of the Jinggang Mountain National Nature Reserve in south-eastern China显示文摘The carbon cycle of forest ecosystems plays a key role in regulating CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere. Research on carbon storage estimation of forest ecosystems has become a major research topic. However, carbon budgets of subtropical forest ecosystems have received little attention. Reports of soil carbon storage and topographic heterogeneity of carbon storage are limited. This study focused on the Jinggang Mountain National Nature Reserve as an example of a mid-subtropical forest and evaluated soil and vegetation carbon storage by field sampling combined with GIS, RS and GPS technology. We classified the forest into nine forest types using ALOS high-resolution remote sensing images. The evergreen broad-leaved forest has the largest area, occupying 26.5% of the total area, followed by coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forests and warm temperate coniferous forest, occupying 24.2 and 22.9%, respectively. The vegetation and soil carbon storage of the whole forest ecosystem were 1,692,344 and 5,514,707 t, with a carbon density of 7.4 and 24.2 kg/m^2, respectively, which suggests that the ecosystem has great carbon storage capacity. The topographic heterogeneity of the carbon storage was also analysed. The largest vegetation storage and soil storage is at 700–800 and 1000–1100 m, respectively. 13Scientific objectives of the Hot Universe Baryon Surveyor(HUBS) mission显示文摘The Hot Universe Baryon Surveyor(HUBS) is a proposed space-based X-ray telescope for detecting X-ray emissions from the hot gas content in our universe. With its unprecedented spatially-resolved high-resolution spectroscopy and large field of view,the HUBS mission will be uniquely qualified to measure the physical and chemical properties of the hot gas in the interstellar medium, the circumgalactic medium, the intergalactic medium, and the intracluster medium. These measurements will be valuable for two key scientific goals of HUBS, namely to unravel the AGN and stellar feedback physics that governs the formation and evolution of galaxies, and to probe the baryon budget and multi-phase states from galactic to cosmological scales. In addition to these two goals, the HUBS mission will also help us solve some problems in the fields of galaxy clusters, AGNs, difuse X-ray backgrounds, supernova remnants, and compact objects. 16Preparation and 3D printing of high-thermal-conductivity continuous mesophase-pitch-based carbon fiber/epoxy composites显示文摘To meet the requirements of spacecraft for the thermal conductivity of resins and solve the problem of low thermal conduction efficiency when 3D printing complex parts,we propose a new type of continuous mesophase-pitch-based carbon fiber/thermoplastic polyurethane/epoxy(CMPCF/TPU/epoxy)composite filament and its preparation process in this study.The composite filament is based on the high thermal conductivity of CMPCF,the high elasticity of TPU,and the high-temperature resistance of epoxy.The tensile strength and thermal conductivity of the CMPCF/TPU/epoxy composite filament were tested.The CMPCF/TPU/epoxy composites are formed by 3D printing technology,and the composite filament is laid according to the direction of heat conduction so that the printed part can meet the needs of directional heat conduction.The experimental results show that the thermal conductivity of the printed sample is 40.549 W/(m·K),which is 160 times that of pure epoxy resin(0.254 W/(m·K)).It is also approximately 13 times better than that of polyacrylonitrile carbon fiber/epoxy(PAN-CF/epoxy)composites.This study breaks through the technical bottleneck of poor printability of CMPCF.It provides a new method for achieving directional thermal conductivity printing,which is important for the development of complex high-performance thermal conductivity products.Haiguang ZHANG Kunlong ZHAO Qingxi HU Jinhe WANG 2023Journal of Zhejiang University-Science A(Applied Physics & Engineering)2023,24,2:1

19Conductive and stable polyphenylene/CNT composite membrane for electrically enhanced membrane fouling mitigation显示文摘Nanocarbon-based conductive membranes, especially carbon nanotube (CNT)-based membranes, have tremendous potential for wastewater treatment and water purification because of their excellent water permeability and selectivity, as well as their electrochemically enhanced performance (e.g., improved antifouling ability). However, it remains challenging to prepare CNT membranes with high structural stability and high electrical conductivity. In this study, a highly electroconductive and structurally stable polyphenylene/CNT (PP/CNT) composite membrane was prepared by electropolymerizing biphenyl on a CNT hollow fiber membrane. The PP/CNT membrane showed 3.4 and 5.0 times higher electrical conductivity than pure CNT and poly(vinyl alcohol)/CNT (PVA/CNT) membranes, respectively. The structural stability of the membrane was superior to that of the pure CNT membrane and comparable to that of the PVA/CNT membrane. The membrane fouling was significantly alleviated under an electrical assistance of −2.0 V, with a flux loss of only 11.7% after 5 h filtration of humic acid, which is significantly lower than those of PP/CNT membranes without electro-assistance (56.8%) and commercial polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes (64.1%). Additionally, the rejection of negatively charged pollutants (humic acid and sodium alginate) was improved by the enhanced electrostatic repulsion. After four consecutive filtration-cleaning cycle tests, the flux recovery rate after backwashing reached 97.2%, which was much higher than those of electricity-free PP/CNT membranes (67.0%) and commercial PVDF membranes (61.1%). 20A novel approach to estimate and control denitrification performance in activated sludge systems with respirogram technology显示文摘Respirogram technology has been widely applied for aerobic process, however, the response of respirogram to anoxic denitrification is still unclear. To reveal such response may help to design a new method for the evaluation of the performance of denitrification. The size distribution of flocs measured at different denitrification moments demonstrated a clear expansion of flocs triggered by denitrification, during which higher specific endogenous and quasi-endogenous respiration rates(SOUReand SOURq) were also observed. Furthermore,SOURqincreases exponentially with the specific denitrification rate(SDNR), suggesting that there should be a maximum SDNR in conventional activated sludge systems.
