| 3 | Effect of Zhu-yuan decoction in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis after functional endoscopic sinus surgery显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effectiveness and safety of Zhu-yuan decoction(ZYD) in patients after functional endoscopic sinus surgery(FESS).METHODS: A total of 85 patients were randomized into two groups: 44 were treated with intranasal corticosteroids(INC), and 41 were given Chinese herbal medicine(CHM). Patients with chronic rhinosinusitis(CRS) who underwent FESS were prospectively enrolled in the study. Before surgery, they were evaluated by visual analog scale(VAS), nasal endoscopy, computed tomography(CT), and routine blood test. After surgery, they were randomized to take ZYD or INC for 12 weeks and revaluated by VAS; nasal endoscopy at 4, 8, and 12 weeks;and CT at 12 weeks after surgery.RESULTS: In the both groups, VAS and endoscopyscores decreased significantly at 4, 8, and 12 weeks,and CT scores after treatment declined at 12 weeks compared with baseline scores. | 5 | Expression of Neuropeptide Y in Human Pituitary Adenoma显示文摘OBJECTIVE Neurppeptide Y (NPY) acts as a neuroendocrine modulator in the anterior pituitary, and NPY mRNA and NPY-immunoreactivity have been detected in normal human anterior pituitaries. However, only a few studies of NPY expression in human pituitary adenomas have been published. Our study was conducted to determine whether or not adenoma-tous cells express NPY, to investigate the relationship between NPY expression and the subtypes of pituitary adenoma and to explore the clinical significance of NPY. METHODS The study included tissues from 58 patients with pituitary adenomas who underwent surgery because of their clinical diagnosis. Using a highly specific anti-NPY polyclonal antibody, immunohistochemi-cal analysis was performed on the surgically removed pituitary adenomas. Six fresh specimens also were examined using immuno-electron microscopy. NPY was labeled with colloidal gold in order to study the distribution of NPY at the subcellular level. RESULTS The NPY expression level was significantly different among subgroups of pituitary adenomas (P<0.05). NPY was immuno-detected in 58.6% of all adenomas, in 91.7% of gonadotrophic adenomas and in 14.3% of prolactinomas. NPY expression was slightly lower in invasive pituitary adenomas compared to noninvasive adenomas, but the difference was not significant (t=1.81, P>0.05). Of particular interest was the finding that vascular endothelial cells showed positive NPY expression in some pituitary adenomas. Parts of strongly positive tumor cells were seen in channels formed without endothelial cells, but which contained some red blood cells in a formation similar to so-called vasculogenic mimicry. Im-muno-electron microscopy demonstrated that 4 of the 6 fresh specimens displayed positive NPY staining with a high density of gold particles located mainly in the secretory granulas. In addition, gold particles were sparsely detected in the rough endoplasmic reticulum and cell matrix. CONCLUSION NPY exists in pituitary adenomas and its expression level was related to the types and biological characteristics of the pituitary adenomas. NPY may have a depressive effect on tumor cellular proliferation in pituitary adenomas. | 6 | IGF-1R inhibition induces MEK phosphorylation to promote survival in colon carcinomas显示文摘The insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor(IGF-1R)governs several signaling pathways for cell proliferation,survival,and antiapoptosis.Thus,targeting IGF-1R appears as a reasonable rationale for tumor treatment.However,clinical studies showed that inhibition of IGF-1R has very limited efficacy due to the development of resistance to IGF-1R blockade in tumor cells.Here,we discovered that prolonged treatment of colon cancer cells with IGF-1R inhibitors(BMS-754807 and GSK1838705A)stimulates p70 KDa ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1(p70S6K1)activation,a well-known kinase signaling for cell survival.We also found that p70S6K1 activation by IGF-1R inhibition is independent of K-Ras and PIK3CA mutations that frequently occur in colon cancer.Besides the increased p70S6K1 phosphorylation,the phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 1 and 2(MEK1/2)was elevated in the cells treated with BMS-754807.Interestingly,the increases in MEK1/2 and p70S6K1 phosphorylation were also observed when cells were subjected to the treatment of AKT inhibitor or genetic knockdown of AKT2 but not AKT1,suggesting that AKT2 inhibition stimulates MEK1/2 phosphorylation to activate p70S6K1.Conversely,inhibition of MEK1/2 by MEK1/2 inhibitor(U0126)or knockdown of MEK1 and MEK2 by corresponding mek1 and mek2 siRNA enhanced AKT phosphorylation,indicating mutual inhibition between AKT and MEK.Furthermore,the combination of BMS-754807 and U0126 efficiently decreased the cell viability and increased cleaved caspase 3 and apoptosis in vitro and in vivo.Our data suggest that the treatment of colon tumor cells with IGF-1R inhibitors stimulates p70S6K1 activity via MEK1/2 to promote survival,providing a new strategy for colorectal cancer therapeutics. | Qing Wang Yan Zhang Jiang Zhu Honggang Zheng Shuntai Chen Li Chen Hsin-Sheng Yang | 2020 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2020,5,1: | 2 |
| 7 | Extinction of the zero-phonon line and the first-order phonon sideband in excitonic luminescence of ZnO at room temperature: the self-absorption effect显示文摘It is firmly demonstrated in experiment that the self-absorption(SA) effect can lead to the extinction of the zero-phonon line and the first-order longitudinal optical phonon sideband of free excitonic luminescence of ZnO at room temperature. Moreover, effectiveness degree of SA effect is found to be dependent on both absorption coefficient and travelling distance of emitted photons, as well as even lattice temperature, which is uniquely reflected by the redshift amount in emission peak in ZnO. It is also unambiguously proved that the SA effect still strictly obeys the Beer-Lambert law of absorption. | 8 | Block Copolymer Networks Composed of Poly(ε-caprolactone) and Polyethylene with Triple Shape Memory Properties显示文摘In this contribution, we reported a novel synthesis of block copolymer networks composed of poly(ε-caprolactone)(PCL) and polyethylene(PE) via the co-hydrolysis and condensation of α,ω-ditriethoxylsilane-terminated PCL and PE telechelics. First, α,ω-dihydroxylterminated PCL and PE telechelics were synthesized via the ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone and the ring-opening metathesis polymerization of cyclooctene followed by hydrogenation of polycyclooctene. Both α,ω-ditriethoxylsilane-terminated PCL and PE telechelics were obtained via in situ reaction of α,ω-dihydroxyl-terminated PCL and PE telechelics with 3-isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane. The formation of networks was evidenced by the solubility and rheological tests. It was found that the block copolymer networks were microphase-separated. The PCL and PE blocks still preserved the crystallinity. Owing to the formation of crosslinked networks, the materials displayed shape memory properties. More importantly, the combination of PCL with PE resulted that the block copolymer networks had the triple shape memory properties, which can be triggered with the melting and crystallization of PCL and PE blocks. | 9 | Generalized cryptanalysis of RSA with small public exponent显示文摘In this paper, we demonstrate that there exist weak keys in the RSA public-key cryptosystem with the public exponent e = N~α N^(0.5). In 1999, Boneh and Durfee showed that when α≈ 1 and the private exponent d = N~β< N^(0.292), the system is insecure. Moreover, their attack is still effective for 0.5 < α < 1.875.We propose a generalized cryptanalytic method to attack the RSA cryptosystem with α≤0.5. For c = [(1-α)/α] and e^(γc)≡ d(mod e^c), when γ, β satisfy γ < 1+1/c-1/(2αc) and β < αc +7/6- αγc-1/3(6α + 6αc + 1- 6αγc)^(1/2), we can perform cryptanalytic attacks based on the LLL algorithm. | 16 | Supramolecular precursor derived loofah sponge-like Fe_(2)O_(x)/C for effective synergistic reaction of Fenton and photocatalysis显示文摘Fenton or photocatalytic degradations of organic contaminants are recognized as promising approaches to address the increasing environmental pollution issues.Herein,we develop the effective synergistic catalysis reaction of Fenton and photocatalysis based on a loofah sponge-like Fe_(2)O_(x)/C nanocomposite,which exhibits excellent nitrobenzene photocatalytic degradation property.It is noted that Fe2O3 nanoparticles with surface Fe^(2+) species were encapsulated with an ultrathin carbon layer(denoted as Fe_(2)O_(x)/C)via a supramolecular self-sacrificing template and following thermal treatment process.The experimental results indicated that the thin layer carbon coating not only inhibited the Fe iron leaching from the Fe_(2)O_(x)but also prompted the separation and transferring of electrons–hole pairs.The introduction of Fe_(2)O_(x)/C enables the Fenton reaction to induce a rapid Fe^(2+)/Fe^(3+)cycle,and meanwhile,together with the photocatalytic reaction to produce continuous active substances for the subsequent degradation catalytic reaction without successive H2O2,resulting in the inexpensive and the effective photocatalytic procedure.As a result,100%nitrobenzene(100 mg/L)was degraded and 97%of the organic carbon was mineralized in 90 min using the Fe_(2)O_(x)/C(0.1 g/L)at a low H_(2)O_(2) dosage(0.50 mM),under air mass(AM)1.5 irradiation.Theoretical calculations confirmed that the Fe_(2)O_(x)/C-600 with thin carbon layer promoted the dissociation of H2O2 and the·OH desorption.The synergistic catalysis of this work may provide new ideas for low-cost and more efficient treatment of pollutants. | Chen Zhao Shien Guo Qi Li Jianan Liu Mang Zheng Xudong Xiao Baojiang Jiang Honggang Fu | 2022 | Nano Research2022,15,3: | 0 |
