2High-precision relocation of the aftershock sequence of the January 8,2022,M_(S)6.9 Menyuan earthquake显示文摘The 2022 Menyuan M_(S)6.9 earthquake,which occurred on January 8,is the most destructive earthquake to occur near the Lenglongling(LLL)fault since the 2016 Menyuan M_(S)6.4 earthquake.We relocated the mainshock and aftershocks with phase arrival time observations for three days after the mainshock from the Qinghai Seismic Network using the double-difference method.The total length and width of the aftershock sequence are approximately 32 km and 5 km,respectively,and the aftershocks are mainly concentrated at a depth of 7-12 km.The relocated sequence can be divided into 18 km west and 13 km east segments with a boundary approximately 5 km east of the mainshock,where aftershocks are sparse.The east and west fault structures revealed by aftershock locations differ significantly.The west fault strikes EW and inclines to the south at a 71°-90°angle,whereas the east fault strikes 133°and has a smaller dip angle.Elastic strain accumulates at conjunctions of faults with different slip rates where it is prone to large earthquakes.Based on surface traces of faults,the distribution of relocated earthquake sequence and surface ruptures,the mainshock was determined to have occurred at the conjunction of the Tuolaishan(TLS)fault and LLL fault,and the west and east segments of the aftershock sequence were on the TLS fault and LLL fault,respectively.Aftershocks migrate in the early and late stages of the earthquake sequence.In the first 1.5 h after the mainshock,aftershocks expand westward from the mainshock.In the late stage,seismicity on the northeast side of the east fault is higher than that in other regions.The migration rate of the west segment of the aftershock sequence is approximately 4.5 km/decade and the afterslip may exist in the source region.Liping Fan Boren Li Shirong Liao Ce Jiang Lihua Fang 2022Earthquake Science2022,35,2:14

4Vertical root distribution and root cohesion of typical tree species on the Loess Plateau, China显示文摘Black locust(Robinia pseudoacacia L.) and Chinese pine(Pinus tabulaeformis Carr.) are two woody plants that are widely planted on the Loess Plateau for controlling soil erosion and land desertification. In this study, we conducted an excavation experiment in 2008 to investigate the overall vertical root distribution characteristics of black locust and Chinese pine. We also performed triaxial compression tests to evaluate the root cohesion(additional soil cohesion increased by roots) of black locust. Two types of root distribution, namely, vertical root(VR) and horizontal root(HR), were used as samples and tested under four soil water content(SWC) conditions(12.7%, 15.0%, 18.0% and 20.0%, respectively). Results showed that the root lengths of the two species were mainly concentrated in the root diameter of 5–20 mm. A comparison of root distribution between the two species indicated that the root length of black locust was significantly greater than that of Chinese pine in nearly all root diameters, although the black locust used in the comparison was 10 years younger than the Chinese pine. Root biomass was also significantly greater in black locust than in Chinese pine, particularly in the root diameters of 3–5 and 5–10 mm. These two species were both found to be deep-rooted. The triaxial compression tests showed that root cohesion was greater in the VR samples than in the HR samples. SWC was negatively related to both soil shear strength and root cohesion. These results could provide useful information on the architectural characteristics of woody root system and expand the knowledge on shallow slope stabilization and soil erosion control by plant roots on the Loess Plateau.ChaoBo ZHANG LiHua CHEN Jing JIANG 2014Journal of Arid Land2014,6,5:9

7Study on electromechanical coupling nonlinear vibration of flywheel energy storage system显示文摘The electromechanical coupling dynamics of the flywheel energy storage system (FESS) with a hybrid permanent magnetic-dynamic spiral groove bearing has been studied. The functions of the kinetic energy, the potential energys, the magnetic field energy in air gap of the flywheel motor and the energy dissipation of the whole system were obtained, and the differential equations set with electromagnetic parameters of FESS was established by applying the extended Lagrange-Maxwell equation. The four-order implicit Runge-Kutta formula to the equations was derived, and the nonlinear algebraic equations were solved by using the Gauss-Newton method. The analytical solution of an example shows that the upper damping coefficient, the lower damping coefficient and the residual magnetic induction of the rare earth permanent magnet play an important role in electromechanical resonance of the flywheel rotor system. There is a small change for the electromechanical coupling resonance frequency with the upper damping coefficient in-creasing, but the resonance amplitude decreases with the upper damping coefficient in-creasing. With the lower damping coefficient increasing, the resonance frequency in-creases, and the resonance amplitude decreases. 8Nanoparticle monolayer-based flexible strain gauge with ultrafast dynamic response for acoustic vibration detection显示文摘The relatively poor dynamic response of current flexible strain gauges has prevented their wide adoption in portable electronics. In this work, we present a greatly improved flexible strain gauge, where one strip of Au nanoparticle (NP) monolayer assembled on a polyethylene terephthalate film is utilized as the active unit. The proposed flexible gauge is capable of responding to applied stimuli without detectable hysteresis via electron tunneling between adjacent nanoparticles within the Au NP monolayer. Based on experimental quantification of the time and frequency domain dependence of the electrical resistance of the proposed strain gauge, acoustic vibrations in the frequency range of 1 to 20,000 Hz could be reliably detected. Three suggestions were made for further discoveries of new actinomycetes. 11Mitochondrial Genome of Episesarma lafondii(Brachyura:Sesarmidae)and Comparison with Other Sesarmid Crabs显示文摘Complete mitochondrial genomes(mitogenomes)can provide useful information for phylogenetic relationships,gene rearrangement,and molecular evolution.Here,the complete mitogenome of Episesarma lafondii(Brachyura:Grapsoidea:Sesarmidae)was sequenced through next-generation sequencing technique for the first time.The 15640 bp mitogenome contains the entire set of 37 genes and an AT-rich region.The rearrangements of two tRNA genes(tRNA-His and tRNA-Gln)are compared with that in the pancrustacean ground pattern,and the tandem duplication/random loss model was selected to explain the observed gene rearrangements.The phylogenetic results showed that all sesarmid crabs belong to the same group,wherein the genus Episesarma showed the closest relationship with Clistocoeloma.Furthermore,the monophyly of each family was well supported except for Xanthidae,Gecarcinidae,and Homolidae.The correlation between the phylogeny of Sesarmidae species and the gaps in the QIM region was analyzed.Evidently,the gaps between Q and I(Gap3 and between I and M(Gap4)degenerated with the evolution process.In general,the results will contribute to the in-depth understanding of gene rearrangements in Sesarmidae mitogenomes and provide new insights into the phylogeny of Brachyura.ZHANG Ying GAO Yan GONG Li LU Xinting JIANG Lihua LIU Bingjian LIU Liqin LU Zhenming LI Pengfei 2021Journal of Ocean University of China2021,20,6:4
12Summer sea-surface temperatures and climate events on the North Icelandic shelf through the last 3000 years显示文摘Diatom data from core MD992271 on the North Icelandic shelf record a cooling trend through the last 3000 years. This is indicated by a general decrease in warm water species and an increase in cold water taxa. The relative abundance of these two diatom groups changed periodically, suggesting that the climate also fluctuated within this time period. The results of diatom-based transfer function calculation show that the summer sea-surface temperatures (SSTs) before 1400 cal. a BP were generally higher than the mean value for the last 3000 years and the summer SSTs fluctuated around the mean between 1400 and 700 cal. a BP, and dropped to the values below the mean after 700 cal. a BP. Four cooling events were distinguished, centered at around 2600, 1900, 1300 and 600 cal. a BP respectively. The results are not only consistent with the data from neighbouring cores HM107-03 and MD992275, but also comparable with those from the GISP2 ice core and from other marine sediment records in the North Atlantic. This suggests that changes in the summer SSTs reflect regional climate variations in the North Atlantic. 13Comparison of the earthquake detection abilities of PhaseNet and EQTransformer with the Yangbi and Maduo earthquakes显示文摘PhaseNet and EQTransformer are two state-of-the-art earthquake detection methods that have been increasingly applied worldwide.To evaluate the generaliz-ation ability of the two models and provide insights for the development of new models,this study took the sequences of the Yunnan Yangbi M6.4 earthquake and Qinghai Maduo M7.4 earthquake as examples to compare the earthquake detection effects of the two abovementioned models as well as their abilities to process dense seismic sequences.It has been demonstrated from the corresponding research that due to the differences in seismic waveforms found in different geographical regions,the picking performance is reduced when the two models are applied directly to the detection of the Yangbi and Maduo earthquakes.PhaseNet has a higher recall than EQTransformer,but the recall of both models is reduced by 13%-56%when compared with the results rep-orted in the original papers.The analysis results indicate that neural networks with deeper layers and complex structures may not necessarily enhance earthquake detection perfor-mance.In designing earthquake detection models,attention should be paid to not only the balance of depth,width,and architecture but also to the quality and quantity of the training datasets.In addition,noise datasets should be incorporated during training.According to the continuous waveforms detected 21 days before the Yangbi and Maduo earthquakes,the Yangbi earthquake exhibited foreshock,while the Maduo earthquake showed no foreshock activity,indicating that the two earthquakes’nucleation processes were different.Ce Jiang Lihua Fang Liping Fan Boren Li 2021Earthquake Science2021,34,5:4

15LiPO_(2)F_(2) electrolyte additive for high-performance Li-rich cathode material显示文摘Li-rich layered oxide cathodes have received considerable attention because of the high operating potential and specific capacity. However, the structural instability and parasitic reactions at high potential cause severe degradation of the electrochemical performance. In our studies, the cycling stability of Li_(1.14)Ni_(0.133)Co_(0.133)Mn_(0.544)O_(2) cathode is improved with LiPO_(2)F_(2) electrolyte additive. After 500 cycles, the capacity retention is increased from 53.6% to 85% at 3 C by LiPO_(2)F_(2) modification. This performance is mainly attributed to the enhanced interfacial stability of the Li-rich cathode. Based on systematic characterization, LiPO_(2)F_(2) additive was found to promote a stable interface film on the cathode surface during the cycling and mitigates the interfacial side reactions. 16Up-regulation of glycolipid transfer protein by bicyclol causes spontaneous restriction of hepatitis C virus replication显示文摘Bicyclol is a synthetic drug for hepatoprotection in clinic since 2004. Preliminary clinical observations suggest that bicyclol might be active against hepatitis C virus(HCV) with unknown mechanism. Here, we showed that bicyclol significantly inhibited HCV replication in vitro and in hepatitis C patients. Using bicyclol as a probe, we identified glycolipid transfer protein(GLTP) to be a novel restrictive factor for HCV replication. The GLTP preferentially bound host vesicle-associated membrane protein-associated protein-A(VAP-A) in competition with the HCV NS5 A, causing an interruption of the complex formation between VAP-A and HCV NS5 A. As the formation of VAP-A/NS5 A complex is essential for viral RNA replication, up-regulation of GLTP by bicyclol reduced the level of VAP-A/NS5 A complex and thus inhibited HCV replication. Bicyclol also exhibited an inhibition on HCV variants resistant to direct-acting antiviral agents(DAAs) with an efficacy identical to that on wild type HCV. In combination with bicyclol, DAAs inhibited HCV replication in a synergistic fashion. 18Characterization and validation of somatic mutation spectrum to reveal heterogeneity in gastric cancer by single cell sequencing显示文摘Gastric cancer(GC) is a highly heterogeneous disease with multiple cellular types and poor prognosis.However, the cellular evolution and molecular basis of GC at the individual intra-tumor level has not been well demonstrated. We performed single-cell whole exome sequencing to detect somatic singlenucleotide variants(SNVs) and significantly mutated genes(SMGs) among 34 tumor cells and 9 normal cells from a patient with GC. The Complete Prediction for Protein Conformation(CPPC) approach directly predicting the folding conformation of the protein 3D structure with Protein Folding Shape Code, combined with functional experiments were used to confirm the characterization of mutated SMGs in GC cells. We identified 201 somatic SNVs, including 117 non-synonymous mutations in GC cells. Further analysis identified 24 significant mutated genes(SMGs) in single cells, for which a single amino acid change might affect protein conformation. Among them, two genes(CDC27 and FLG) that were mutated only in single cells but not in the corresponding tumor tissue, were recurrently present in another GC tissue cohort, and may play a potential role to promote carcinogenesis, as confirmed by functional characterization. 20Genetically encoded X-ray cellular imaging for nanoscale protein localization显示文摘Spatial resolution defines the physical limit of microscopes for probing biomolecular localization and interactions in cells.Whereas synchrotron-based X-ray microscopy(XRM)represents a unique approach for imaging a whole cell with nanoscale resolution due to its intrinsic nanoscale resolution and great penetration ability,existing approaches to label biomolecules rely on the use of exogenous tags that are multi-step and error-prone.Here,we repurpose engineered peroxidases as genetically encoded X-ray-sensitive tags(GXET)for site-specific labeling of protein-of-interest in mammalian cells.We find that 3,3-diaminobenzidine(DAB)polymers that are in-situ catalytically formed by fusion-expressed peroxidases are visible under XRM.Using this new tag,we imaged the protein location associated with the alteration of a DNA-methylation pathway with an ultra-high resolution of 30 nanometers.Importantly,the excellent energy resolution of XRM enables multicolor imaging using different peroxidase tags.The development of GXET enlightens the way to nanoscopic imaging for biological studies.Huating Kong Jichao Zhang Jiang Li Jian Wang Hyun-Joon Shin Renzhong Tai Qinglong Yan Kai Xia Jun Hu Lihua Wang Ying Zhu Chunhai Fan 2020National Science Review2020,7,7:3
