| 1 | Leaching of phosphorus from incinerated sewage sludge ash by means of acid extraction followed by adsorption on orange waste gel显示文摘Ashes from sewage sludge incineration have a high phosphorus content, approximately 8% (W/W), which indicates a potential resource of the limiting nutrient. Incineration of sewage sludge with subsequent recovery of phosphorus is a relatively new sludge treatment technique. In this article, the leaching of phosphorus by using sulfuric acid as well as hydrochloric acid by means of several batch experiments was presented. At the same time a selective recovery of phosphorus by adsorption was also discussed. The effects of acid concentration, temperature and time on extraction were studied. The phosphorus leaching increased with the increase in acid concentration and temperature. Kinetic studies showed that the complete leaching of phosphorus took place in less than 4 h. Selective adsorption of phosphorus by using orange waste gel provided a hint for recovery of this natural resource, which eventually could meet the ever-increasing requirement for phosphorus. | 2 | Effects of age on survival and morbidity in gastric cancer patients undergoing gastrectomy显示文摘AIM To evaluate clinicopathological features and surgical outcomes of gastric cancer in elderly and non-elderly patients after inverse probability of treatment weighting(IPTW) method using propensity score.METHODS We enrolled a total of 448 patients with histologically confirmed primary gastric carcinoma who received gastrectomies. Of these, 115 patients were aged > 80 years old(Group A), and 333 patients were aged < 79 years old(Group B). We compared the surgical outcomes and survival of the two groups after IPTW.RESULTS Postoperative complications, especially respiratory complications and hospital deaths, were significantly more common in Group A than in Group B(P < 0.05). Overall survival(OS) was significantly lower in Group A patients than in Group B patients. Among the subset of patients who had pathological Stage Ⅰ?disease, OS was significantly lower in Group A(P < 0.05) than Group B, whereas cause-specific survival was almost equal in the two groups. In multivariate analysis, pathological stage, histology, and extent of lymph node dissection wereindependent prognostic values for OS.CONCLUSION When the gastrectomy was performed in gastric cancer patients, we should recognized high mortality and comorbidities in that of elderly. | 3 | Beh et's disease complicated by multiple aseptic abscesses of the liver and spleen显示文摘Aseptic abscesses are an emergent entity and have been described in inflammatory bowel disease,especially in Crohn's disease,and in other diseases.However,aseptic abscesses associated with Beh et's disease are extremely rare.We report a Japanese male diagnosed with an incomplete type of Beh et's disease who developed multiple aseptic abscesses of the spleen and liver.In 2002,the spleen abscesses were accompanied by paroxysmal oral aphthous ulcers and erythema nodosum.As the patient's response to antibiotic treatment was inadequate,a splenectomy was performed.Severe inflammatory cell infiltration,largely of polymorphonuclear neutrophils,was observed without evidence of bacterial or fungal growth.Although the patient had no history of ocular symptoms or genital ulcers,a diagnosis of incomplete Beh et's disease was made according to the Japanese diagnostic criteria because of the presence of paroxysmal arthritis and epididymitis since 2002.In 2005,multiple liver abscesses developed with right hypochondrial pain and seemed to be attributed to Beh et's disease because the abscesses yielded negative results during a microbiologic investigation and failed to go into remission under antibiotic therapy.Oral prednisone(15 mg/d) was started in May 2006,and the abscesses dramatically disappeared 4 wk after treatment.Although the patient had a relapse of the liver abscesses in association with the tapering of prednisone,the augmentation of prednisone dosage yielded a response.The abscesses of the liver and spleen were strongly suggested to be attributed to Beh et's disease.Clinician should be aware of the existence of aseptic abscesses as uncommon manifestations of Beh et's disease. | Keisuke Maeshima Koji Ishii Megumi Inoue Katsuro Himeno Masataka Seike | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013，19，20： | 3 |
