1Influence of ginsenoside Rg1, a panaxatriol saponin from Panax notoginseng, on renal fibrosis in rats with unilateral ureteral obstruction显示文摘Total saponins of Panax notoginseng (PNS) have been shown to ameliorate renal interstitial fibrosis. Ginsenoside Rg1, a panaxatriol saponin, is one of the major active molecules from PNS. The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of ginsenoside Rg1 on renal fibrosis in rats with unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO). The rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: sham-operation (n=15), UUO (n=15) and UUO with ginsenoside Rg1 treatment (n=15, 50 mg per kg body weight, intraperito- neally (i.p.) injected). The rats were sacrificed on Days 7 and 14 after the surgery. Histological examination demonstrated that ginsenoside Rg1 significantly inhibited interstitial fibrosis including tubular injury as well as collagen deposition. α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) and E-cadherin are two markers of tubular epithelial-myofibroblast transition (TEMT). Interestingly, ginsenoside Rg1 notably decreased α-SMA expression and simultaneously enhanced E-cadherin expression. The messenger RNA (mRNA) of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), a key mediator to regulate TEMT, in the obstructed kidney increased dra- matically, but was found to decrease significantly after administration of ginsenoside Rg1. Further study showed that ginsenoside Rg1 considerably decreased the levels of both active TGF-β1 and phosphorylated Smad2 (pSmad2). Moreover, ginsenoside Rg1 substantially suppressed the expression of thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1), a cytokine which can promote the transcription of TGF-β1 mRNA and the activation of latent TGF-β1. These results suggest that ginsenoside Rg1 inhibits renal interstitial fibrosis in rats with UUO. 2Petrogenesis and tectonic implications of Late-Triassic high εNd(t)-εHf(t) granites in the Ailaoshan tectonic zone(SW China)显示文摘High εNd(t)-εHf(t) granites are robust evidence for crustal growth. In this paper we report results of petrologic, geochronological and geochemical investigations on the Huashiban granites from the Ailaoshan tectonic zone in western Yunnan(SW China). Zircon grains separated from the two samples(10HH-119 A and 10HH-120A) yield the weighted mean 206Pb/238 U ages of 229.9 ± 2.0 Ma and 229.3 ± 2.3 Ma, respectively, interpreted as the crystallization ages of the granites. Based on our results, in combination with the existing U-Pb geochronological data for the Ailaoshan metamorphic rocks, we propose that the Ailaoshan Group might be a rock complex composed of the Mesoproterozoic, Neoproterozoic, Hercynian, Indosinian and Himalayan components, rather than a part of the crystalline basement of the Yangtze block. The zircon grains show highly depleted Lu-Hf isotope compositions, with positive εHf(t) values ranging from 8.4 to 13.1. The Huashiban granites have high SiO2(72.66 wt%–73.70 wt%), low Mg#(0.28–0.34) with A/CNK=1.01–1.05, and can be classified as peralumious high-K calc-alkaline I-type granites. A synthesis of these data indicates that the Ailaoshan tectonic zone had evolved into a post-collisional setting by the Late-Triassic(229 Ma). 3LAMOST Experiment for Galactic Understanding and Exploration (LEGUE)——The survey's science plan显示文摘We describe the current plans for a spectroscopic survey of millions of stars in the Milky Way galaxy using the Guo Shou Jing Telescope (GSJT, formerly called the Large sky Area Multi-Object fiber Spectroscopic Telescope - LAMOST). The survey will obtain spectra for 2.5 million stars brighter than r < 19 during dark/grey time, and 5 million stars brighter than r < 17 or J < 16 on nights that are moonlit or have low transparency. The survey will begin in the fall of 2012, and will run for at least four years. The telescope's design constrains the optimal declination range for observations to 10 < δ < 50 , and site conditions lead to an emphasis on stars in the direction of the Galactic anticenter. The survey is divided into three parts with different target selection strategies: disk, anticenter, and spheroid. The resulting dataset will be used to study the merger history of the Milky Way, the substructure and evolution of the disks, the nature of the first generation of stars through identification of the lowest metallicity stars, and star formation through study of open clusters and OB associations. 4Correlation of Seven Biological Factors(Hsp90α,p53,MDM2,Bcl-2,Bax,Cytochrome C,and Cleaved caspase3)with Clinical Outcomes of ALK+ Anaplastic Large-cell Lymphoma显示文摘Objective To explore correlation of seven apoptosis‐related proteins (Hsp90α,p53,MDM2,Bcl‐2,Bax,Cytochrome C,and Cleaved caspase3) with clinical outcomes of ALK+ anaplastic large‐cell lymphoma (ALCL).Methods Using immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence double staining methods,the expressions of these seven apoptosis‐associated proteins were studied to clarify their relationship with clinical outcomes of 36 ALK+ and 25 ALK‐ systemic ALCL patients enrolled between 1996 and 2006.The relationship of these apoptosis‐regulating proteins with NPM‐ALK status was also evaluated with the tyrosine inhibitor herbimycin A (HA) in vitro by immunocytochemistry,Western blotting and flow cytometric assays.Results The presence of Hsp90α‐,MDM2‐,Bax‐,Cytochrome C,and Cleaved caspase3‐positive tumor cells was found significantly different in ALK+ and ALK‐ ALCLs ,which was correlated with highly favorable clinical outcome.The Bcl‐2‐ and p53‐positive tumor cells were found in groups of patients with unfavorable prognosis.Inhibition of NPM‐ALK by HA could reactivate the p53 protein and subsequent apoptosis‐related proteins and therefore induced apoptosis in ALK+ ALCL cells.Conclusion Our results suggest that these seven proteins might be involved in apoptosis regulation and associated with clinical outcome of ALK+ systemic ALCLs.We also reveal a dynamic chain relation that NPM‐ALK regulates p53 expression and subsequent apoptosis cascade in ALK+ ALCLs.LI Hui Ling HUANG Xue Ping ZHOU Xin Hua JI Tian Hai WU Zi Qing WANG Zhi Qiang JIANG Hui Yong LIU Fan Rong ZHAO Tong 2011Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2011,24,6:9

7Mitochondrial Oxidative Stress Enhances Vasoconstriction by Altering Calcium Homeostasis in Cerebrovascular Smooth Muscle Cells under Simulated Microgravity显示文摘Objective Exposure to microgravity results in postflight cardiovascular deconditioning in astronauts.Vascular oxidative stress injury and mitochondrial dysfunction have been reported during this process.To elucidate the mechanism for this condition,we investigated whether mitochondrial oxidative stress regulates calcium homeostasis and vasoconstriction in hindlimb unweighted(HU)rat cerebral arteries.Methods Three-week HU was used to simulate microgravity in rats.The contractile responses to vasoconstrictors,mitochondrial fission/fusion,Ca^(2+) distribution,inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor(IP3 R)abundance,and the activities of voltage-gated K+channels(KV)and Ca^(2+)-activated K+channels(BKCa)were examined in rat cerebral vascular smooth muscle cells(VSMCs).Results An increase of cytoplasmic Ca^(2+) and a decrease of mitochondrial/sarcoplasmic reticulum(SR)Ca^(2+) were observed in HU rat cerebral VSMCs.The abundance of fusion proteins(mitofusin 1/2[MFN1/2])and fission proteins(dynamin-related protein 1[DRP1]and fission-mitochondrial 1[FIS1])was significantly downregulated and upregulated,respectively in HU rat cerebral VSMCs.The cerebrovascular contractile responses to vasoconstrictors were enhanced in HU rats compared to control rats,and IP3 R protein/mRNA levels were significantly upregulated.The current densities and open probabilities of KV and BKCa decreased and increased,respectively.Treatment with the mitochondrial-targeted antioxidant mitoTEMPO attenuated mitochondrial fission by upregulating MFN1/2 and downregulating DRP1/FIS1.It also decreased IP3 R expression levels and restored the activities of the KV and BKCa channels.MitoTEMPO restored the Ca^(2+) distribution in VSMCs and attenuated the enhanced vasoconstriction in HU rat cerebral arteries.Conclusion The present results suggest that mitochondrial oxidative stress enhances cerebral vasoconstriction by regulating calcium homeostasis during simulated microgravity.LIU Zi Fan WANG Hai Ming JIANG Min WANG Lin LIN Le Jian ZHAO Yun Zhang SHAO Jun Jie ZHOU Jing Jing XIE Man Jiang LI Xin ZHANG Ran 2021Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2021,34,3:3

10High temperature performance of coaxial h-BN/CNT wires above 1,000 ℃:Thermionic electron emission and thermally activated conductivity显示文摘The development of wires and cables that can tolerate extremely high temperatures will be very important for probing extreme environments, such as in solar exploration, fire disasters, high-temperature materials processing, aeronautics and astronautics. In this paper, a lightweight high-temperature coaxial h-boron nitride (BN)/carbon nanotube (CNT) wire is synthesized by the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) epitaxial growth of h-BN on CNT yarn. The epitaxially grown h-BN acts as both an insulating material and a jacket that protects against oxidation. It has been shown that the thermionic electron emission (1,200 K) and thermally activated conductivity (1,000 K) are two principal mechanisms for insulation failure of h-BN at high temperatures. The thermionic emission of h-BN can provide the work function of h-BN, which ranges from 4.22 to 4.61 eV in the temperature range of 1,306-1,787 K. The change in the resistivity of h-BN with temperature follows the ohmic conduction model of an insulator, and it can provide the “electron activation energy”(the energy from the Fermi level to the conduction band of h-BN), which ranges from 2.79 to 3.08 eV, corresponding to a band gap for h-BN ranging from 5.6 to 6.2 eV. However, since the leakage current is very small, both phenomena have no obvious influence on the signal transmission at the working temperature. This lightweight coaxial h-BN/CNT wire can tolerate 1,200 ℃ in air and can transmit electrical signals as normal. 14An algorithm for preferential selection of spectroscopic targets in LEGUE显示文摘We describe a general target selection algorithm that is applicable to any survey in which the number of available candidates is much larger than the number of objects to be observed. This routine aims to achieve a balance between a smoothly- varying, well-understood selection function and the desire to preferentially select certain types of targets. Some target-selection examples are shown that illustrate different possibilities of emphasis functions. Although it is generally applicable, the algorithm was developed specifically for the LAMOST Experiment for Galactic Understanding and Exploration (LEGUE) survey that will be carried out using the Chinese Guo Shou Jing Telescope. In particular, this algorithm was designed for the portion of LEGUE targeting the Galactic halo, in which we attempt to balance a variety of science goals that require stars at fainter magnitudes than can be completely sampled by LAMOST. 16A Survey of Urolithiasis in Young Children Fed Infant Formula Contaminated with Melamine in Two Townships of Gansu,China显示文摘Objective To determine the prevalence of urolithiasis in young children fed infant formula(IF) contaminated with melamine,and the association between IF consumption and urolithiasis.Design A total of 2 733 children ≤3 years of age on September 1,2008 in two townships of Gansu Province,China were studied.Cases of urolithiasis were diagnosed by ultrasonography.Milk product consumption was determined by their caregivers.Remaining IF samples were tested for melamine and cyanuric acid.Results Of 2 733 eligible children in the two townships,2 186(80%) were enrolled in our study.Overall,16.6%(362) of 2 186 children had urolithiasis.The prevalence was 24.6% in children exclusively fed Sanlu brand IF,9.7% in those fed other IF,and 8.5% in those fed exclusively on other milk products.For children exclusively breast-fed,no urolithiasis was found(P<0.05).The prevalence of urolithiasis was 11.4% in children fed 400 g of Sanlu IF,rising to 37.5% in children fed over 25 600 g.Of 48 Sanlu IF samples,91.7% contained melamine(median=1 800 ppm;range=45-4 700) and 66.7% contained cyanuric acid(median=1.2 ppm;range=0.4-6.3).Melamine was also detected in 22.2% of 36 other brand IF(median=27.5 ppm,range=4-50).Conclusions Urolithiasis was associated with melamine-contaminated IF.Although one product caused most morbidity,other milk products may have also contributed to the outbreak.SHI Guo Qing WANG Zi Jun FENG Zi Jian GAO Yong Jun LIU Jian Di SHEN Tao LIMing YANG Jin XU Hai Bing JIANG Xiao Hong WANG Zhao Nan CAI Mei WANG Yu Min ZHU Ye Fan LIU Hui Hui WANG Rui XIONG Wei Yi WANG Zhu Tian YANG Wei Zhong HOU Pei Sen ZENG Guang WANG Yu 2012Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2012,25,2:1

18A mini-review on pharmacological effects of ginsenoside Rb3,a marked saponin from Panax genus显示文摘Ginsenoside Rb3(G-Rb3)is one of the primary active compounds isolated from Panax ginseng Meyer,which belongs to protopanaxadiol ginsenosides(PPD).Based on the structure-activity relationship(SAR)of ginsenosides,the pentose structure of G-Rb3 limited itself to possess more pharmacological activity to a certain extent.However,pharmacokinetics show that G-Rb3 is processed through deglycosylation in the intestinal tract and converted into more active rare saponins,such as Compound K,F2,etc.A series of studies focused on neuroprotection and the cardiovascular system demonstrating its therapeutic potentials,which was achieved by diminishing oxidative stress and apoptosis.Therefore,more systematic and in-depth studies are needed to complete the pharmaceutical value and to promote its clinical applications.This article highlights the multiple pharmacological effects and mechanisms of G-Rb3 and prospects for its development.WEI LI YUEYANG DUAN XIAOTONG YAN XIANGXIANG LIU MEILING FAN ZI WANG 2022BIOCELL2022,46,6:1

20Structural and functional characteristics of microbiota in oropharynx of sub-healthy children with gastrointestinal heat retention syndrome differentiated by traditional Chinese medicine显示文摘Objective:To explore the structural and functional characteristics of microbiota in oropharynx of subhealthy children with gastrointestinal heat retention syndrome(GHRS)differentiated by traditional Chinese medicine,and screen the biometric operational taxonomic units(OTUs)to assist the clinical diagnosis.Methods:We recruited children according to the“GHRS diagnostic scale”,collected their oropharyngeal swabs,and sequenced the 16 SrDNA V4 region.We described the bacterial structure with alpha-indexes,beta-distances,and relative abundances;moreover,we screened the differential genera/OTUs with Wilcoxon rank-sum test,Metagenome Seq analysis,and linear discriminant analysis effect size(LEf Se)analysis,in which biometric OTUs were selected to construct the receiver operating characteristic curve to verify the diagnostic value.The bacterial function was predicted with Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathways according to 16S rDNA gene by using Phylogenetic Investigation of Communities by Reconstruction of Unobserved States.Results:The study population was composed of 10 children with GHRS and 10 healthy control children.GHRS children were more likely to overeat(gluttony,P=.033).Alpha-indexes,such as Sobs,abundancebased coverage estimator,Bootstrap,and Qstat,were significantly higher in the GHRS group,while betadistances did not exhibit any significant intergroup differences.There were 9 differently distributed nonpredominant genera between the groups in Wilcoxon rank-sum test,as well as 13 non-predominant genera in Metagenome Seq analysis and 3 non-predominant OTUs in LEfSe analysis.OTU44 and OTU196 were used to construct the receiver operating characteristic curve,and the area under curve was 0.92.Predicted functions showed that pathways related to oxidative phosphorylation and carbon metabolism were enriched in healthy control samples,while the pathway related to renin secretion was remarkably enriched in GHRS samples.Conclusion:Unique oropharyngeal microbial structure and function were identified in GHRS children.OTU44 and OTU196 were specific OTUs,which could be used as biomarkers of GHRS to assist clinical diagnosis.Jianhua Zhen He Yu Xiaofei Li Fei Dong Zi'an Zheng Xueyan Ma Yuxiang Wan Tiegang Liu Lu Fan Xiaohong Gu 2022Journal of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences2022,9,3:1
