| 1 | Chinese deserts and sand fields in Last Glacial Maximum and Holocene Optimum显示文摘The Last Glacial Maximum (LGM, c. 26-16 ka) and the Holocene Optimum (HO, c. 9-5 ka) were characterized by cold-dry and warm-wet climates respectively in the recently geological Earth. How Chinese deserts and sand fields responded to these distinctive climatic changes is still not clear, however. To reconstruct environments of the deserts and sand fields during the LGM and HO is helpful to understand the forcing mechanisms of environment change in this arid region, and to test paleoclimatic modeling results. Through our long-term field and laboratory investigations, 400 optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) ages and more than 100 depositional records in the Chinese deserts and sand fields were obtained; on the basis of these data, we reconstruct spatial distributions of the deserts and sand fields during the LGM and HO. Our results show that the sand fields of Mu Us, Hunshandake, Horqin and Hulun Buir in northern and northeastern China had expanded 25%, 37%, 38% and 270%, respectively, during the LGM; the sand fields of Gonghe in the northeastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau had expanded 20%, and the deserts of Badain Jaran, Tengger in central northern China had expanded 39% and 29% separately during the LGM; the deserts of Taklimakan, Gurbantünggüt and Kumtag in northwestern China had expanded 10%-20% respectively, compared to their modern areas. On the other hand, all of the sand fields were nearly completely covered by vegetation during the HO; the deserts in northwestern and central northern China were reduced by around 5%-20% in area during this time. Lakes in this arid region were probably expanded during the HO but this conclusion needs more investigation. Compared with the geological distributions of deserts and sand fields, human activity has clearly changed (expanded) the area of active sand dunes at the present time. | 2 | Effect of dietary supplementation with protease on growth performance,nutrient digestibility, intestinal morphology, digestive enzymes and gene expression of weaned piglets显示文摘This study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary protease supplementation on the growth performance, nutrient digestibility, intestinal morphology, digestive enzymes and gene expression in weaned piglets. A total of 300 weaned piglets(21 days of age Duroc x Large White x Landrace; initial BW = 6.27 ± 0.45 kg) were randomly divided into 5 groups. The 5 diets were: 1) positive control diet(PC), 2) negative control diet(NC), and 3) protease supplementations, which were 100, 200, and 300 mg per kg NC diet. Results indicated that final BW, ADG, ADFI, crude protein digestibility, enzyme activities of stomach pepsin, pancreatic amylase and trypsin, plasma total protein, and intestinal villus height were higher for the PC diet and the supplementations of 200 and 300 mg protease per kg NC diet than for the NC diet(P < 0.05). Supplementations of 200 and 300 mg protease per kg NC diet significantly increased the ratio of villus height to crypt depth(VH:CD) of duodenum, jejunum and ileum compared with NC diet(P < 0.05). Feed to gain ratio, diarrhea index, blood urea nitrogen, and diamine oxidase were lower for the PC diet and supplementations of 200 and 300 mg protease per kg NC diet than for the NC diet(P < 0.05). Piglets fed the PC diet had a higher peptide transporter 1(PepTl) mRNA abundance in duodenum than piglets fed the NC diet(P < 0.05), and supplementations of 100, 200 and 300 mg protease per kg NC diet increased the PepTl mRNA abundance in duodenum(P < 0.05) comparing with the NC diet. Piglets fed the PC diet had a higher b0,+AT mRNA abundance in jejunum than piglets fed the NC diet(P < 0.05), and supplementations of 200 and 300 mg protease per kg NC diet increased the b0,+AT mRNA abundance in jejunum and ileum comparing with the NC diet(P < 0.05). According to the different types of mechanical interfaces of targets, the on orbit capturing operation includes capturing of cooperative target and capturing of uncooperative target. The performances of the famous large space manipulators named space shuttle remote manipulator system(SRMS), the space station remote manipulator system(SSRMS) and the Europe robotic arm(ERA) are reviewed and studied respectively. Moreover, the space manipulators being developed by China for space station is also surveyed. Based on the performance analysis of the large space manipulators and end-effectors, which are adapted to the construction and daily maintenance for the large space structure such as the space station, the basic requirements of large misalignment tolerance capability, soft capturing capability and hard docking capability for the end-effector of large space manipulator are proposed in this paper. According to these requirements, the capture mechanism and methods that can enable the end-effector to have the capability of misalignment tolerance and soft capturing are presented. | 10 | In situ synthesis and modification of calcium carbonate nanoparticles via a bobbling method显示文摘Modified calcium carbonate (CaCO3) nanoparticles with cubic- and spindle-like configuration were synthesized in situ by the typical bobbling (gas-liquid-solid) method. The modifiers, such as sodium stearate, octadecyl dihydrogen phosphate (ODP) and oleic acid (OA), were used to obtain hydrophobic nanoparticles. The different modification effects of the modifiers were investigated by measuring the active ratio, whiteness and the contact angle. Moreover, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetry analysis (TGA analysis) were employed to characterize the obtained products. A preliminary reaction mechanism was discussed. According to the results, the active ratio of CaCO3 modified by ODP was ca. 99.9% and the value of whiteness was 97.3% when the dosage of modifiers reached 2%. The contact angle was 122.25° for the CaCO3 modified in the presence of sodium stearate, ODP and OA. When modified CaCO3 was filled into PVC, the mechanical properties of products were improved greatly such as rupture intensity, pull intensity and fuse temperature. The effect of reaction temperature, particle size and NaOH-to-slag mass ratio on titanium extraction was investigated. The results show that temperature and particle size have significant influence on titanium extraction. The experimental data of titanium extraction show that the shrinking core model with chemical reaction controlled process is most applicable for the decomposition of slag, with an apparent activation energy of 62.4 kJ·mol-1. Approximately 85 wt.%-90 wt.% of the titanium can be extracted from the slag under the optimal conditions. | 13 | Relationship of gelatinases-tight junction proteins and blood-brain barrier permeability in the early stage of cerebral ischemia and reperfusion显示文摘Gelatinases matrix metalloproteinase-2 and matrix metalloproteinase-9 have been shown to mediate claudin-5 and occludin degradation, and play an important regulatory role in blood-brain barrier permeability. This study established a rat model of 1.5-hour middle cerebral artery occlusion with reperfusion. Protein expression levels of claudin-5 and occludin gradually decreased in the early stage of reperfusion, which corresponded to the increase of the gelatinolytic activity of matrix metalloproteinase-2 and matrix metalloproteinase-9. In addition, rats that received treatment with matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor N-[(2R)-2-(hydroxamidocarbonylmethyl)-4-methylpenthanoyl]-L- tryptophan methylamide (GM6001) showed a significant reduction in Evans blue leakage and an inhibition of claudin-5 and occludin protein degradation in striatal tissue. These data indicate that matrix metalloproteinase-2 and matrix metalloproteinase-9-mediated claudin-5 and occludin degradation is an important reason for blood-brain barrier leakage in the early stage of reperfusion. The leakage of the blood-brain barrier was present due to gelatinases-mediated degradation of claudin-5 and occludin proteins. | 15 | Short-term link quality prediction using nonparametric time series analysis显示文摘Wireless link quality prediction(LQP) is the foundation for proactive operations and is therefore a key technique in alleviating network performance degradation. However, accurate LQP is difficult because of the dynamic nature of wireless environments. A recent study found that fluctuations in intermediate quality links often show dynamics on a sub-second granularity, making the task even more challenging. In order to leverage the intermediate links, as well as fine-tune upper-layer protocols, we propose to use nonparametric modeling in nonlinear time series analysis that predicts short-term link quality online. Unlike existing studies,we do not define any new experimental or hypothetical models, or train models using a set of training data.Functional-coefficient autoregression is employed to predict the link dynamics at high time resolutions. We apply our approach and a local linear regression-based LQP(a typical parametric modeling approach) to both NS-2 simulation and empirical packet traces. | 16 | Nutrient Composition of Different Foxtail Millet Seeds显示文摘Ten millet cultivars from China and abroad were analyzed for their crude fat,amylose and amylopectin,crude protein and amino acid content. A wide variation was observed in amylopectin contain,ranging from 54. 47% to 69. 26%,while amylose content ranged from 11. 26% to 23. 22%. The average crude fat in all cultivates was 3. 46%,and most cultivates ranged from 3. 1% to 3. 7%. Protein contents ranged from 8. 61% to 15. 54% with a mean value of 11. 94%. For amino acid composition,the ten cultivates were particularly rich in leucine,and the mean was 34. 57 mg/g. The millet cultivars were also high in glycine,glutamic acid and cysteine. Millet was known to be limiting in the essential amino lysine,and the mean was 5. 18 mg/g. Other amino acids,tyrosine,histidine and arginine were also very low in the ten cultivars. | 17 | Improved oxygen reduction reaction via a partially oxidized Co-CoO catalyst on N-doped carbon synthesized by a facile sand-bath method显示文摘High active and durable non-noble metal electrocatalysts are urgently developed to satisfy the high performance oxygen reduction reaction(ORR). We successfully synthesized Co-CoOx anchored on nitrogen-doped carbon via a facile sand-bath method(SBM), i.e., Co-CoOx/N-C(SBM). The as-obtained Co-CoOx/N-C(SBM) exhibited overwhelming superiorities to Co-CoO/N-C prepared by conventional heat treatment(CHT), particularly in electrochemical performance of ORR. Although Co-CoOx/N-C(SBM)showed smaller specific surface area of 276.8 m^2/g than that of 939.5 m^2/g from Co-CoO/N-C(CHT), the Co-CoOx/N-C(SBM) performed larger pore diameter and more Co_3O_4 active component resulting in better ORR performance in 0.1 mol/L KOH solution. The Co-CoO_x/N-C(SBM) delivered onset potential of 0.91 V vs. RHE, mid-wave potential of 0.85 V vs. RHE and limited current density of 5.46 mA/cm^2 much better than those of the Co-CoO/N-C(CHT). | 18 | Human embryonic stem cells-derived endothelial cell therapy facilitates kidney regeneration by stimulating renal resident stem cell proliferation in acute kidney injury显示文摘Endothelial cell therapy has been implicated to enhance tissue regeneration and vascularization in ischemic kidney. However, no published study has yet examined direct effects of endothelial cell treatment in kidney recovery. This study investigated the therapeutic efficacy of endothelial cells in a mouse model with acute kidney injury (AKI). Thus, human embryonic stem cells-derived endothelial cells (hESC-ECs) labeled with a reporter system encoding a double fusion reporter gene for firefly luciferase (Fluc) and green fluorescent protein (GFP) were characterized by Fluc imaging and immunofluoresence staining. Cultured hESC-ECs (1×106) were injected into ischemic kidney shortly after AKI. Survival of the transplanted hESC-ECs was monitored in vivo from day 1 to 14 after endothelial cell transplantation and potential impact of hESC-EC treatment on renal regeneration was assessed by histological analyses. We report that a substantial level of bioluminescence activity was detected 24 h after hESC-EC injection followed by a gradual decline from 1 to 14 d. Human ESC-ECs markedly accelerated kidney cell proliferation in response to ischaemia-induced damage, indicated by an elevated number of BrdU+ cells. Co-expression of Sca-1, a kidney stem cell proliferation marker, and BrdU further suggested that the observed stimulation in renal cell regeneration was, at least in part, due to increased proliferation of renal resident stem cells especially within the medullary cords and arteriole. Differentiation of hESC-ECs to smooth muscle cells was also observed at an early stage of kidney recovery. | 19 | Serum macrophage migration inhibitory factor as a potential biomarker to evaluate therapeutic response in patients with allergic asthma:an exploratory study显示文摘Background:Previous studies have shown that macrophage migration inhibitory factor(MIF)is involved in the pathogenesis of asthma.This study aimed to investigate whether serum MIF reflects a therapeutic response in allergic asthma.Methods:We enrolled 30 asthmatic patients with mild-to-moderate exacerbations and 20 healthy controls,analyzing the parameter levels of serum MIF,serum total immunoglobulin E(tIgE),peripheral blood eosinophil percentage(EOS%),and fractional exhaled nitric oxide(FeNO).Lung function indices were used to identify disease severity and therapeutic response.Results:Our study showed that all measured parameters in patients were at higher levels than those of controls.After one week of treatment,most parameter levels decreased significantly except for serum tIgE.Furthermore,we found that serum MIF positively correlated with EOS%as well as FeNO,but negatively correlated with lung function indices.Receiver operator characteristic(ROC)curve analysis indicated that among the parameters,serum MIF exhibited a higher capacity to evaluate therapeutic response.The area under the curve(AUC)of MIF was 0.931,with a sensitivity of 0.967 and a specificity of 0.800.Conclusions:Our results suggested that serum MIF may serve as a potential biomarker for evaluating therapeutic response in allergic asthma with mild-to-moderate exacerbations. | Huiyuan ZHU Shaochun YAN Jingshuo WU Zhong ZHANG Xiaolin LI Zheng LIU Xing MA Lina ZHOU Lin ZHANG Mingming FENG Yiwei GENG Aixin ZHANG Sabina JANCIAUSKIENE Aiguo XU | 2021 | Journal of Zhejiang University-Science B(Biomedicine & Biotechnology)2021,22,6: | 3 |
