| 1 | Two Comparable Earthquakes Produced Greatly Different Coseismic Landslides:The 2015 Gorkha,Nepal and 2008 Wenchuan,China Events显示文摘The 2015 Gorkha Earthquake in Nepal and the 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake in China occurred at the south and southeast margins of the Tibetan Plateau, respectively. Both earthquakes had similar magnitudes of Mw 7.8 and 7.9, caused catastrophic loss of life and damage to property, and generated tens of thousands of landslides. Comparisons of pre- and post-quake satellite images supported by field investigations show that the Gorkha Earthquake triggered at least 2 064 large landslides(defined as covering an area ≥10 000 m^2) over a ~35 600 km^2 region with a volume of(444–584)×10~6(average 509×10~6) m^3 and total area of 44.78×10~6 m^2. In contrast, the Wenchuan Earthquake triggered 25 580 large landslides over a region of ~44 000 km^2 with a volume of(7 128–9 479)×10~6(average 8 219×10~6) m^3 and a total area of about 670.65×10~6 m^2. Several controlling factors including topographic relief, slope steepness, and regional peak ground acceleration(PGA) were investigated to try to explain the great differences between the number, volume and area of the coseismic landslides associated with the two similar earthquakes. We found that the differences primarily arose from an unexpected factor, the dip angle of the seismogenic fault. | 2 | The heterogeneity of islet autoantibodies and the progression of islet failure in type 1 diabetic patients显示文摘Type 1 diabetes mellitus is heterogeneous in many facets. The patients suffered from type 1 diabetes present several levels of islet function as well as variable number and type of islet-specific autoantibodies. This study was to investigate prevalence and heterogeneity of the islet autoantibodies and clinical phenotypes of type 1 diabetes mellitus; and also discussed the process of islet failure and its risk factors in Chinese type 1 diabetic patients. A total of 1,291 type 1 diabetic patients were enrolled in this study. Demographic information was collected. Laboratory tests including mixed-meal tolerance test, human leukocyte antigen alleles, hemoglobin A1 c, lipids, thyroid function and islet autoantibodies were conducted. The frequency of islet-specific autoantibody in newly diagnosed T1 DM patients(duration shorter than half year) was 73% in East China. According to binary logistic regressions, autoantibody positivity, longer duration and lower Body Mass Index were the risk factors of islet failure. As the disease developed, autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase declined as well as the other two autoantibodies against zinc transporter 8 and islet antigen 2. The decrease of autoantibodies was positively correlated with aggressive beta cell destruction. Autoantibodies can facilitate the identification of classic T1 DM from other subtypes and predict the progression of islet failure. | 3 | Comparative Transcriptome Analysis Reveals Different Host Cell Responses to Acute and Persistent Foot-and-Mouth Disease Virus Infection显示文摘Foot-and-mouth disease virus(FMDV) rapidly causes cytopathic effects in susceptible cells. Incomplete viral clearance during the acute infection leads to persistent infection. The relationship between host gene expression and the persistent infection remains unclear. In this study, we analyzed the transcriptome profiles of BHK-21 cells acutely and persistently infected with FMDV to identify differences in gene expression. GO and KEGG enrichment analyses showed that the 8,378 differentially expressed genes were significantly enriched in categories including metabolism, biosynthesis, ribosome function, and endocytosis. In persistently infected BHK-21 cells, ribosome-and translation-related genes were significantly down-regulated. There were more differentially expressed immune-related genes during persistent infection than during acute infection. Two hundred and seventy-four genes were differentially expressed in both acutely and persistently infected BHK-21 cells. Among these genes, heat shock protein family B member 1(Hspb1) knockdown significantly inhibited FMDV replication. | 6 | Optimization of compression formulation and load of food-grade tracers for grain traceability using central composite design显示文摘Food-grade tracers have been developed as an identification technology for grain traceability from original harvest to final destination for transportation.The characteristics of food-grade tracers must be able to satisfy the environmental demands for grain traceability.To optimize the food-grade tracer production process,the effects of direct compression formulation and load on the mechanical characteristics were studied using response surface methodology(RSM)with central composite design(CCD).Among the four tested formulations,Formulations#2(consisting of 35.00%lactose 100 mesh,64.50%microcrystalline cellulose 102 and 0.50%magnesium stearate)and#4(consisting of 38.00%lactose 100 mesh,50.00%microcrystalline cellulose 102,11.00%pregelatinized starch and 1.00%magnesium stearate)were selected for tracer production based on their physical properties as powders.The value of Carr’s flowability index was 68 for both Formulations#2 and#4,which was the highest among all the formulations.Therefore,Formulations#2 and#4 also had the best powder flowability.The magnesium stearate ratio(1.00%-3.00%)and pressure(6.00-16.00 kgf)were used as independent variables to detect changes in the breaking rate,peak shear force and friction coefficient of tracers compressed by the selected formulations.The optimal production parameters could be achieved at a magnesium stearate ratio of 2.25%and pressure of 16.00 kgf for Formulation#2 and at a magnesium stearate ratio of 1.02%and pressure of 16.00 kgf for Formulation#4.Under these optimal conditions,the tracers had good impact characteristics(breaking rate),compression characteristics(peak shear force)and frictional characteristics(friction coefficient).Moreover,Formulation#2 was more suitable for production because compared to Formulation#4,its breaking rate and friction coefficient values were lower,and its peak shear force value was higher. | Liang Kun Zhang Lingling Lu Wei Cedric Sean Okinda Shen Mingxia | 2017 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2017,10,6: | 2 |

| 10 | Antibody-engineered red blood cell interface for high-performance capture and release of circulating tumor cells显示文摘Circulating tumor cells(CTCs),as important liquid biopsy target,can provide valuable information for cancer progress monitoring and individualized treatment.However,current isolation platforms incapable of balancing capture efficiency,specificity,cell viability,and gentle release have restricted the clinical applications of CTCs.Herein,inspired by the structure and functional merits of natural membrane interfaces,we established an antibody-engineered red blood cell(RBC-Ab)affinity interface on microfluidic chip for high-performance isolation and release of CTCs.The lateral fluidity,pliability,and anti-adhesion property of the RBC microfluidic interface enabled efficient CTCs capture(96.5%),high CTCs viability(96.1%),and high CTCs purity(average 4.2-log depletion of leukocytes).More importantly,selective lysis of RBCs by simply changing the salt concentration was utilized to destroy the affinity interface for efficient and gentle release of CTCs without nucleic acid contamination.Using this chip,CTCs were successfully detected in colon cancer samples with 90%sensitivity and 100%specificity(20 patients and 10 healthy individuals).After the release process,KRAS gene mutations of CTCs were identified from all the 5 cancer samples,which was consistent with the results of tissue biopsy.We expect this RBC interface strategy will inspire further biomimetic interface construction for rare cell analysis. | Haicong Shen Rui Su Jiao Peng Lin Zhu Kunyue Deng Qi Niu Yanling Song Liu Yang Lingling Wu Zhi Zhu Chaoyong Yang | 2022 | Bioactive Materials2022,7,5: | 1 |

| 15 | Yangtze River Delta Aerosol liquid water in PM_(2.5)and its roles in secondary aerosol formation at a regional site of Yangtze River Delta显示文摘Aerosol liquid water content(ALWC)plays an important role in secondary aerosol formation.In this study,a whole year field campaign was conducted at Shanxi in north Zhejiang Province during 2021.ALWC estimated by ISORROPIA-Ⅱ was then investigated to explore its characteristics and relationship with secondary aerosols.ALWC exhibited a highest value in spring(66.38μg/m^(3)),followed by winter(45.08μg/m^(3)),summer(41.64μg/m^(3)),and autumn(35.01μg/m^(3)),respectively.It was supposed that the secondary inorganic aerosols(SIA)were facilitated under higher ALWC conditions(RH>80%),while the secondary organic species tended to form under lower ALWC levels.Higher RH(>80%)promoted the NO_(3)^(-)formation via gas-particle partitioning,while SO_(4)^(2-)was generated at a relative lower RH(>50%).The ALWC was more sensitive to NO_(3)^(-)(R=0.94)than SO_(4)^(2-)(R=0.90).Thus,the self-amplifying processes between the ALWC and SIA enhanced the particle mass growth.The sensitivity of ALWC and OX(NO_(2)+O_(3))to secondary organic carbon(SOC)varied in different seasons at Shanxi,more sensitive to aqueous-phase reactions(daytime R=0.84;nighttime R=0.54)than photochemical oxidation(daytime R=0.23;nighttime R=0.41)in wintertime with a high level of OX(daytime:130-140μg/m^(3);nighttime:100-140μg/m^(3)).The self-amplifying process of ALWC and SIA and the aqueous-phase formation of SOC will enhance aerosol formation,contributing to air pollution and reduction of visibility. | Ruifang Shi Fei Zhang Yemin Shen Jiasi Shen Bingye Xu Binyu Kuang Zhengning Xu Lingling Jin Qian Tang Xudong Tian Zhibin Wang | 2024 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2024,,4: | 1 |

| 19 | Chromosome 6q deletion mapping in human ovarian tumor: a common deletion region between D6S1649 and D6S311显示文摘Objective: To explore the loss of heterozygosity(LOH) on chromosome 6q in ovarian cancer, and localize a minimum area in deletion region. Methods: 93 ovarian tumors were analyzed for LOH studies with 10 microsatellite markers spanning chromosome 6q. To further localize a minimum area in deletion region. Nineteen microsatellite markers were used to refined a minimum area. Results: Forty three tumors(46%) were demonstrated allelic losses, which spanned less than two megabase areas, franked by a distal marker D6S311 and a proximal marker D6S1649, and likely harbored ovarian tumor suppressor gene(s). With analysis of density of LOH, increased DNA copy number at loci of 6q was demonstrated between D6S1649 and D6S311. Conclusion: It is possible that duplication after the allelic loss might be a main mechanism that leads to carcinogenesis in ovarian tumor.
