3Farmland mercury contamination in the vicinity of an organic chemical factory in Guizhou,China显示文摘This study assesses the level of contamination of Hg in farmland soils along the irrigating channel down-stream from Guizhou Organic Chemical Factory (GOCF),where metallic mercury is used as a catalyst to produce acetic acid. The total input of mercury into the environment,as announced by GOCF,is 140 t in the past 30 years (1971-2000). Sampling sites were chosen based on the distance from the source of pollution—the chemical factory. A total of 39 samples were collected from the study area and analyzed for total mercury concentrations and methyl mercury concentrations. The characteristics of vertical and horizontal distributions of total mercury and methyl mer-cury in the study area (farmland) are described in this paper. Much attention was paid to the transformation of inor-ganic Hg into organic mercury species in soils as well. The results showed that the farmland has been heavily con-taminated by Hg. Land cultivation activity,land utilization style and distance from the pollution source could be the dominant factors controlling the distribution of THg and MeHg. 12Precision Methylome and In Vivo Methylation Kinetics Characterization of Klebsiella pneumoniae显示文摘Klebsiella pneumoniae(K.pneumoniae)is an important pathogen that can cause severe hospital-and community-acquired infections.To systematically investigate its methylation features,we determined the whole-genome sequences of 14 K.pneumoniae strains covering varying serotypes,multilocus sequence types,clonal groups,viscosity/virulence,and drug resistance.Their methylomes were further characterized using Pacific Biosciences single-molecule real-time and bisulfite technologies.We identified 15 methylation motifs[13 N6-methyladenine(6mA)and two 5-methylcytosine(5mC)motifs],among which eight were novel.Their corresponding DNA methyltransferases were also validated.Additionally,we analyzed the genomic distribution of GATC and CCWGG methylation motifs shared by all strains,and identified differential distribution patterns of some hemi-/un-methylated GATC motifs,which tend to be located within intergenic regions(IGRs).Specifically,we characterized the in vivo methylation kinetics at single-base resolution on a genome-wide scale by simulating the dynamic processes of replication-mediated passive demethylation and MTase-catalyzed re-methylation.The slow methylation of the GATC motifs in the replication origin(oriC)regions and IGRs implicates the epigenetic regulation of replication initiation and transcription.Our findings illustrate the first comprehensive dynamic methylome map of K.pneumoniae at single-base resolution,and provide a useful reference to better understand epigenetic regulation in this and other bacterial species.Jing Fu Ju Zhang Li Yang Nan Ding Liya Yue Xiangli Zhang Dandan Lu Xinmiao Jia Cuidan Li Chongye Guo Zhe Yin Xiaoyuan Jiang Yongliang Zhao Fei Chen Dongsheng Zhou 2022Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2022,20,2:1

14Different Sensitivities to Apoptotic Induction by Camptothecin between Normal and Senescent Lens Epithelial Cells显示文摘Purpose: To investigate whether normal and senescent lens epithelial cells have different defense abilities to apoptotic induction factor in vitro.Methods: Rabbit lens epithelial cells were cultured, passed. When reaching confluence, cells from the first and seventh passage were stained by x-gal staining to detect cell senescence. Cell apoptosis was detected by TUNEL(Roche).10μmol/L camptothecin was used to induce cell apoptosis from the lens epithelial cells of the first and seventh passage to distinguish different sensitivities to apoptotic induction factor between normal and senescent cells.Results: The senescent cells (41.17% ± 5.24% ) were detected in the lens epithelial cell culture of the seventh passage, which are higher than those of the first passage (0.98% ±0. 39% ). There was no apoptotic cell detected in the cell cultures undisturbed. Exposure of the first passage cells to camptothecin resulted in death of approximately 23.87% ± 3.45% of the cells during a 36 hour exposure period. In contrast, significantly more lens epithelial cells died through the apoptosis (38.29% ±4. 01% ) from the seventh passage.Conclusion: Senescent cells increased with cell passage. Senescence lens epithelial cells do not undergo apoptosis if they were not disturbed. 15Edge Detection of COVID-19 CT Image Based on GF_SSR, Improved Multiscale Morphology, and Adaptive Threshold显示文摘Edge detection is an effective method for image segmentation and feature extraction.Therefore,extracting weak edges with the inhomogeneous gray of Corona Virus Disease 2019(COVID-19)CT images is extremely important.Multiscale morphology has been widely used in the edge detection of medical images due to its excellent boundary detection accuracy.In this paper,we propose a weak edge detection method based on Gaussian filtering and singlescale Retinex(GF_SSR),and improved multiscale morphology and adaptive threshold binarization(IMSM_ATB).As all the CT images have noise,we propose to remove image noise by Gaussian filtering.The edge of CT images is enhanced using the SSR algorithm.In addition,based on the extracted edge of CT images using improved Multiscale morphology,a particle swarm optimization(PSO)algorithm is introduced to binarize the image by automatically getting the optimal threshold.To evaluate our method,we use images from three datasets,namely COVID-19,Kaggle-COVID-19,and COVID-Chestxray,respectively.The average values of results are worthy of reference,with the Shannon information entropy of 1.8539,the Precision of 0.9992,the Recall of 0.8224,the F-Score of 1.9158,running time of 11.3000.Finally,three types of lesion images in the COVID-19 dataset are selected to evaluate the visual effects of the proposed algorithm.Compared with the other four algorithms,the proposed algorithm effectively detects the weak edge of the lesion and provides help for image segmentation and feature extraction.Shouming Hou Chaolan Jia Kai Li Liya Fan Jincheng Guo Mackenzie Brown 2022Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2022,,7:0
16Corporate Power for Poverty Alleviation: Evidence from the Poverty Alleviation Results of Chinese Listed Companies显示文摘Government-led poverty alleviation faces multiple constraints and limitations fighting poverty,and it is urgent to mobilize social forces as many as possible,especially the involvement of corporate forces.To figure out whether corporate participation is effective to poverty alleviation and whether regional differences have an impact on it,this paper probes into results of corporate involvement in poverty alleviation,based on corporate social responsibility report information released by A-share listed companies in 2010-2017.The findings are as follows.(1)Companies in the western region,companies directly contacting consumers and large companies with good business performance are more willing to involve in poverty alleviation.(2)The participation of enterprises in poverty alleviation can increase the per capita income of rural residents,which is even better in underdeveloped areas.This revealed that social forces represented by companies have responded to China’s call of targeted poverty alleviation and fulfilled corporate social responsibilities,which will indeed help consolidate the achievements of poverty alleviation and lift underdeveloped areas out of poverty.From the perspective of corporate involvement in poverty alleviation,this paper extends related research on social forces and another participant in poverty alleviation,and enrich the literature on social benefits brought by companies performing social responsibilities.Liya Liu Shupeng Zhou Yuanchen Pang Xuehan Guo 2022China Finance and Economic Review2022,11,2:0
17The E3 ubiquitin ligase CSIT1 regulates critical sterility-inducing temperature by ribosome-associated quality control to safeguard two-line hybrid breeding in rice显示文摘Two-line hybrid breeding can fully utilize heterosis in crops.In thermo-sensitive genic male sterile(TGMS)lines,low critical sterility-inducing temperature(CSIT)is vital to safeguard the production of two-line hybrid seeds in rice(Oryza sativa),but the molecular mechanism determining CSIT is unclear.Here,we report the cloning of CSIT1,which encodes an E3 ubiquitin ligase,and show that CSIT1 modulates the CSIT of thermo-sensitive genic male sterility 5(tms5)-based TGMS lines through ribosome-associated quality control(RQC).Biochemical assays demonstrated that CSIT1 binds to the 80S ribosomes and ubiquitinates abnormal nascent polypeptides for degradation in the RQC process.Loss of CSIT1 function inhibits the possible damage of tms5 to the ubiquitination system and protein translation,resulting in enhanced accumulation of anther-related proteins such as catalase to suppress abnormal accumulation of reactive oxygen species and premature programmed cell death in the tapetum,thereby leading to a much higher CSIT in the tms5-based TGMS lines.Taken together,our findings reveal a regulatory mechanism of CSIT,providing new insights into RQC and potential targets for future two-line hybrid breeding.Guoqing Peng Minglong Liu Liya Zhu Wenlong Luo Qinghua Wang Mumei Wang Huiqiong Chen Ziliang Luo Yueping Xiao Yongjie Zhang Haona Hong Zhenlan Liu Lingyan Zhou Guoqiang Guo Yingxiang Wang Chuxiong Zhuang Hai Zhou 2023Molecular Plant2023,16,10:0
18Pioneering observation of atmospheric volatile organic compounds in Hangzhou in eastern China and implications for upcoming 2022 Asian Games显示文摘Understanding the emission sources of volatile organic compounds(VOCs)is critical for air pollution mitigation.Continuous measurements of atmospheric VOCs were conducted from January to February in Hangzhou in 2021.The average measured concentration of total VOCs(TVOCs)was 38.2±20.9 ppb,>42% lower than that reported by previous studies at the urban center in Hangzhou.The VOC concentrations and proportions were similar between weekdays and weekends.During the long holidays of the Spring Festival in China,the concentrations of TVOCs were∼50% lower than those during the regular days,but their profiles showed no significant difference(p>0.05).Further,we deduced that aromatics and alkenes were the most crucial chemicals promoting the formation of O3 and secondary organic aerosol(SOA)in Hangzhou.According to interspecies correlations,combustion processes and solvent use were inferred as major VOC emission sources.This study provides implications for air quality improvements before and during the upcoming Asian Games that will be hosted in Hangzhou in 2022.Bowei Li Steven Sai Hang Ho Xinhe Li Liya Guo Rui Feng Xuekun Fang 2023Journal of Environmental Sciences2023,,2:0
