1A two-step lineage reprogramming strategy to generate functionally competent human hepatocytes from fibroblasts显示文摘Terminally differentiated cells can be generated by lineage reprogramming,which is,however,hindered by incomplete conversion with residual initial cell identity and partial functionality. Here, we demonstrate a new reprogramming strategy by mimicking the natural regeneration route, which permits generating expandable hepatic progenitor cells and functionally competent human hepatocytes. Fibroblasts were first induced into human hepatic progenitor-like cells (hHPLCs), which could robustly expand in vitro and efficiently engraft in vivo. Moreover, hHPLCs could be efficiently induced into mature human hepatocytes (hiHeps) in vitro, whose molecular identity highly resembles primary human hepatocytes (PHHs). Most importantly, hiHeps could be generated in large quantity and were functionally competent to replace PHHs for drug-metabolism estimation, toxicity prediction and hepatitis B virus infection modeling. Our results highlight the advantages of the progenitor stage for successful lineage reprogramming. 3Photonic matrix multiplication lights up photonicaccelerator and beyond显示文摘Matrix computation,as a fundamental building block of information processing in science and technology,contributes most of the computational overheads in modern signal processing and artificial intelligence algorithms.Photonic accelerators are designed to accelerate specific categories of computing in the optical domain,especially matrix multiplication,to address the growing demand for computing resources and capacity.Photonic matrix multiplication has much potential to expand the domain of telecommunication,and artificial intelligence benefiting from its superior performance.Recent research in photonic matrix multiplication has flourished and may provide opportunities to develop applications that are unachievable at present by conventional electronic processors.In this review,we first introduce the methods of photonic matrix multiplication,mainly including the plane light conversion method,Mach–Zehnder interferometer method and wavelength division multiplexing method.We also summarize the developmental milestones of photonic matrix multiplication and the related applications.Then,we review their detailed advances in applications to optical signal processing and artificial neural networks in recent years.Finally,we comment on the challenges and perspectives of photonic matrix multiplication and photonic acceleration.Hailong Zhou Jianji Dong Junwei Cheng Wenchan Dong Chaoran Huang Yichen Shen Qiming Zhang Min Gu Chao Qian Hongsheng Chen Zhichao Ruan Xinliang Zhang 2022Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,2:4
4LIN28 coordinately promotes nucleolar/ribosomal functions and represses the 2C-like transcriptional program in pluripotent stem cells显示文摘LIN28 is an RNA binding protein with important roles in early embryo development,stem cell differentiation/re-programming,tumorigenesis and metabolism.Previous studies have focused mainly on its role in the cytosol where it interacts with Let-7 microRNA precursors or mRNAs,and few have addressed LIN28's role within the nucleus.Here,we show that LIN28 displays dynamic temporal and spatial expression during murine embryo development.Maternal LIN28 expression drops upon exit from the 2-cell stage,and zygotic LIN28 protein is induced at the forming nucleolus during 4-cell to blas-tocyst stage development,to become dominantly expressed in the cytosol after implantation.In cultured pluripotent stem cells(PSCs),loss of LIN28 led to nucleolar stress and activation of a 2-cell/4-cell-like transcriptional program characterized by the expression of endogenous retrovirus genes.Mechanistically,LIN28 binds to small nucleolar RNAs and rRNA to maintain nucleolar integrity,and its loss leads to nucleolar phase separation defects,ribosomal stress and activation of P53 which in turn binds to and activates 2C transcription factor Dux.LIN28 also resides in a complex containing the nucleolar factor Nucleolin(NCL)and the transcrip-tional repressor TRIM28,and LIN28 loss leads to reduced occupancy of the NCL/TRIM28 complex on the Dux and rDNA loci,and thus de-repressed Dux and reduced rRNA expression.Lin28 knockout cells with nucleolar stress are more likely to assume a slowly cycling,translationally inert and anabolically inactive state,which is a part of previously unappreciated 2C-like transcriptional program.These findings elucidate novel roles for nucleolar LIN28 in PSCs,and a new mechanism linking 2C program and nucleolar functions in PSCs and early embryo development.Zhen Sun Hua Yu Jing Zhao Tianyu Tan Hongru Pan Yuqing Zhu Lang Chen Cheng Zhang Li Zhang Anhua Lei Yuyan Xu Xianju Bi Xin Huang Bo Gao Longfei Wang Cristina Correia Ming Chen Qiming Sun Yu Feng Li Shen Hao Wu Jianlong Wang Xiaohua Shen George Q.Daley Hu Li Jin Zhang 2022Protein & Cell2022,13,7:4
5A Textural and Mineralogical Study of the Shanzhuang Banded Iron Formation, Southeastern Margin of the North China Craton: Implications for the Overprint History of Hydrothermal Alteration and Supergenesis after Mineralization显示文摘The newly discovered Shanzhuang BIF is hosted in the Shancaoyu Formation of the Taishan Group within the Eastern Block,southeastern margin of the North China Craton.The ores can be subdivided into three types in terms of mineral assemblages,corresponding to three types(Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ).The element concentration of the type Ⅰ magnetite is similar to that of the type Ⅱ magnetite,while the type Ⅲ magnetite is similar to that of the schist.In general,magnetite and hemat ite grains from the ores show high concentrations of Mn(1317,1162 ppm),Co(787,1023 ppm),Al(2224,2435 ppm)and Ti(540,300 ppm),Whereas magnetite is depleted in Si(420 ppm)and hematite enriched in Si(1690 ppm).Detailed petrographic and mineral chemical analysis of magnetite,hematite,amphibole/hornblende and pyroxene,reveals that almost all the minerals occur as subhedral-anhedral grains with pits and fractures,and the BIF is recrystallized to metamorphic assemblages of high amphibolite facies.Hornblende is highly enriched in Fe,Mg and Ca,but depleted in K and Na,mostly belonging to magnesiohornblende.In addition,the ratios of Mg/(Mg+Fe^2+),Fe^3+/(Fe^3++Fe^2+),Si/(Si+Ti+Al)and Al/Si are 0.48-0.64,0.17-0.36,0.79-0.88 and 0.14-0.27,respectively.It is suggested that hornblende is neither a typical magmatic origin nor a typical metamorphic.Pyroxene has the characteristics of high Ca and Fe,but low Ti and Al,with end-member components En,Wo and Fs in the ranges of 25.22-28.64 wt%,43.71-46.40 wt%and 24.51-27.62 wt%,respectively,belonging to clinopyroxene,and mostly diopside,might be formed during the prograde metamorphism in the absence of H2 O.The carbonate such as dolomite-ankerite series is probably a precursor mineral of the BIF deposit.Mass mineral chemical and structural characteristics indicate that the Shanzhuang iron deposit has been subjected to varying degrees of oxidized hydrothermal superimposed reformation,metamorphism,and supergenesis after mineralization,during which some elements have been migrated in some degree.ZHANG Yan YU Xuefeng PENG Qiming LI Dapeng LI Xiaowei SHEN Kun ZHANG Shangkun SHANWei 2020Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2020,94,6:1
6Clapping and Broadcasting Synchronization in Wireless Sensor Networks显示文摘The Clapping and Broadcasting Synchronization (CBS) algorithm,which is specifically designed for large-scale sensor networks with low communication overhead and high synchronization accuracy,is introduced.The CBS protocol uses broadcasting rather than pairwise communication to accomplish synchronization.In the CBS scheme,the initial offset of local clocks can be successfully eliminated by the operation of clapping nodes,which leads to significant improvement in synchronization accuracy.The CBS protocol was implemented on the TelosB platform and its performance was evaluated in a variety of experiments.The results demonstrate that the CBS protocol outperforms the current state-of-the-art approach,the Flooding Time Synchronization Protocol (FTSP),in both single-hop and multi-hop scenarios in terms of synchronous precision and energy consumption.In multi-hop scenarios,the CBS algorithm keeps about 50% of its synchronization errors within 1 ms.In comparison,the FTSP keeps less than 7% of its synchronization errors within this range.In both single-hop and multi-hop scenarios,the CBS protocol is over 3.2 times more energy-efficient than the FTSP.Xingfa Shen Xin Qian Bei Zhao Qiming Fang Guojun Dai 2011Tsinghua Science and Technology2011,16,6:1

9Neural compositing for real-time augmented reality rendering in low-frequency lighting environments显示文摘We present neural compositing,a deep-learning based method for augmented reality rendering,which uses convolutional neural networks to composite rendered layers of a virtual object with a real photograph to emulate shadow and reflection effects.The method starts from estimating the lighting and roughness information from the photograph using neural networks,renders the virtual object with a virtual floor into color,shadow and reflection layers by applying the estimated lighting,and finally refines the reflection and shadow layers using neural networks and blends them with the color layer and input image to yield the output image.We assume low-frequency lighting environments and adopt PRT(precomputed radiance transfer)for layer rendering,which makes the whole pipeline differentiable and enables fast end-to-end network training with synthetic scenes.Working on a single photograph,our method can produce realistic reflections in a real scene with spatially-varying material and cast shadows on background objects with unknown geometry and material at real-time frame rates.Shengjie MA Qian SHEN Qiming HOU Zhong REN Kun ZHOU 2021Science China(Information Sciences)2021,64,2:1

16Fluorescent Nile blue-functionalized poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)microgels responsive to temperature and polyamines显示文摘Fluorescent poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-Nile blue)(pNIPAm-co-NB)microgels were synthesized that exhibited fluorescence intensity changes in a water temperature-dependent fashion.NB is well known to exhibit fluorescence intensity that depends on the hydrophobicity of the environment,while pNIPAm-based microgels are well known to transition from swollen(hydrophilic)to collapsed(relatively hydrophobic)at temperatures greater than 32℃;hence,we attribute the above behavior to the hydrophobicity changes of the microgels with increasing temperature.This phenomenon is ultimately due to NB dimers(relatively quenched fluorescence)being broken in the hydrophobic environment of the microgels leading to relatively enhanced fluorescence.We went on to show that the introduction of cucurbit[7]uril(CB[7])into the pNIPAm-co-NB microgels enhanced their fluorescence allowing them to be used for polyamine(e.g.,spermine[SPM])detection.Specifically,CB[7]forms a host–guest interaction with NB in the microgels,which prevents NB dimerization and enhances their fluorescence.When SPM is present,it forms a host–guest complex that is favored over the CB[7]-NB host–guest interaction,which frees the NB for dimerization and leads to fluorescence quenching.As a result,we could generate an SPM sensor capable of SPM detection down to~0.5µmol/L in complicated matrixes such as serum and urine.Qiming Shen Changhao Fang Liang Hu Michael J.Serpe 2024SmartMat2024,5,2:0
17Surface Coordination Decouples Hydrogenation Catalysis on Supported Metal Catalysts显示文摘Supported metal catalysts integrating advantages of catalytic hydrogenation and stoichiometric reduction are highly desirable for the green production of fine chemicals.Decoupling catalytic hydrogenation into H_(2)activation and selective reduction taking place at different locations is expected to provide an effective strategy to fabricate such catalyst systems.Herein,we report a decoupled hydrogenation system by modifying Pt catalysts supported on reducible In2O3 with ethylenediamine(EDA).The system exhibits good catalytic performance in oximes production from nitroalkanes,an industrially important reaction,by employing H_(2).Systematic studies demonstrate that the surface coordination of EDA on Pt is crucial to passivate the Pt surface from nitro hydrogenation without inhibiting H_(2)activation.The activated H_(2)species can then transfer and reduce the In_(2)O_(3)support in situ to generate sustainable stoichiometric reducing agents for the chemoselective reduction of nitroalkanes.Based upon the mechanistic understanding,a sustainable strategy for the production of oximes has been successfully fabricated.Qingyuan Wu Wenting Zhou Hui Shen Ruixuan Qin Qiming Hong Xiaodong Yi Nanfeng Zheng 2023CCS Chemistry2023,5,5:0
