| 2 | Extracellular vesicles from human urine-derived stem cells prevent osteoporosis by transferring CTHRC1 and OPG显示文摘Osteoporosis is a debilitating bone disease affecting millions of people. Here, we used human urine-derived stem cells(USCs),which were noninvasively harvested from unlimited and easily available urine, as a 'factory' to obtain extracellular vesicles(USCEVs) and demonstrated that the systemic injection of USC-EVs effectively alleviates bone loss and maintains bone strength in osteoporotic mice by enhancing osteoblastic bone formation and suppressing osteoclastic bone resorption. More importantly, the anti-osteoporotic properties of USC-EVs are not notably disrupted by the age, gender, or health condition(with or without osteoporosis) of the USC donor. Mechanistic studies determined that collagen triple-helix repeat containing 1(CTHRC1) and osteoprotegerin(OPG) proteins are enriched in USC-EVs and required for USC-EV-induced pro-osteogenic and anti-osteoclastic effects. | 4 | Facile fabrication of highly conductive, waterproof, and washable e-textiles for wearable applications显示文摘曰ectronic textiles(e-textiles),known as a newly-developed innovation combining the textile and electronic technologies,are burgeoning as the next-generation of wearable electronics for lots of promising applications.However,a big concern is the durability of the e-textiles during practical using.Here,we describe a facile method tofabricate mechanically and electrically durable e-textiles by chemical deposition of silver nanoparticles(AgNPs)on widely used cotton fabric.The interface between AgNPs and fabric was tightly strengthened by the bioinspired polydopamine,and a highly waterproof and anticorrosive surface was further obtained by modifying with a fluorine containing agent of 1H,1H,2H,2/~/-perfuorodecanethiol(PFDT).In addition to the low sheet resistance of 0.26 ohm/sq and high conductivity of 233.4 S/cm,the e-textiles present outstanding stability to different mechanical deformations including ultrasonication,bending and machine washing.Moreover,thanks to the surface roughness of AgNPs and low surface energy of PFDT,a superhydrophobic surface,with a water contact angle of ca.152°,was further obtained,endowing the e-textiles excellent anti-corrosion to water,acid/alkaline solution and various liquids(e.g.,milk,coffee and tea).Finally,the application of this highly conductive e-textiles in wearable thermal therapy is demonstrated.Together with the facile,all-solution-based,and environmentally friendly fabrication protocol,the e-textiles show great potential of large-scale applications in wearable electronics. | Ben Niu Su Yang Tao Hua Xiao Tian MingKin Koo | 2021 | Nano Research2021,14,4: | 2 |
| 5 | Anα/βhydrolase family member negatively regulates salt tolerance but promotes flowering through three distinct functions in rice显示文摘Ongoing soil salinization drastically threatens crop growth,development,and yield worldwide.It is therefore crucial that we improve salt tolerance in rice by exploiting natural genetic variation.However,many salt-responsive genes confer undesirable phenotypes and therefore cannot be effectively applied to practical agricultural production.In this study,we identified a quantitative trait locus for salt tolerance from the African rice species Oryza glaberrima and named it as Salt Tolerance and Heading Date 1(STH1).We found that STH1 regulates fatty acid metabolic homeostasis,probably by catalyzing the hydrolytic degradation of fatty acids,which contributes to salt tolerance.Meanwhile,we demonstrated that STH1 forms a protein complex with D3 and a vital regulatory factor in salt tolerance,OsHAL3,to regulate the protein abundance of OsHAL3 via the 26S proteasome pathway.Furthermore,we revealed that STH1 also serves as a co-activator with the floral integrator gene Heading date 1 to balance the expression of the florigen gene Heading date 3a under different circumstances,thus coordinating the regulation of salt tolerance and heading date.Notably,the allele of STH1 associated with enhanced salt tolerance and high yield is found in some African rice accessions but barely in Asian cultivars.Introgression of the STH1HP46 allele from African rice into modern rice cultivars is a desirable approach for boosting grain yield under salt stress.Collectively,our discoveries not only provide conceptual advances on the mechanisms of salt tolerance and synergetic regulation between salt tolerance and flowering time but also offer potential strategies to overcome the challenges resulted from increasingly serious soil salinization that many crops are facing. | You-Huang Xiang Jia-Jun Yu Ben Liao Jun-Xiang Shan Wang-Wei Ye Nai-Qian Dong Tao Guo Yi Kan Hai Zhang Yi-Bing Yang Ya-Chao Li Huai-Yu Zhao Hong-Xiao Yu Zi-Qi Lu Hong-Xuan Lin | 2022 | Molecular Plant2022,15,12: | 2 |

| 15 | Climate extremes and ozone pollution:a growing threat to China’s food security显示文摘Ensuring global food security requires a sound understanding of climate and environmental controls on crop productivity.The majority of existing assessments have focused on physical climate vari-ables(i.e.,mean temperature and precipitation),but less on the increasing climate extremes(e.g.,drought)and their interactions with increasing levels of tropospheric ozone(O3).Here we quantify the combined impacts of drought and O3 on China’s crop yield using a comprehensive,process-based agricultural eco-system model in conjunction with observational data.Our results indicate that climate change/variability and O3 together led to an annual mean reduction of crop yield by 10.0%or 55 million tons per year at the national level during 1981-2010.Crop yield shows a growing threat from severe episodic droughts and in-creasing O3 concentrations since 2000,with the largest crop yield losses occurring in northern China,causing serious concerns in food supply security in China.Our results imply that reducing tropospheric O3 levels is critical for securing crop production in coping with increasing frequency and severity of extreme climate events such as droughts.Improving air quality should be a core component of climate adaptation strategies. | Hanqin Tian Wei Ren Bo Tao Ge Sun Art Chappelka Xiaoke Wang Shufen Pan Jia Yang Jiyuan Liu Ben SFelzer Jerry MMelillo John Reilly | 2016 | Ecosystem Health and Sustainability2016,2,1: | 1 |
| 16 | Synergistic“Anchor‑Capture”Enabled by Amino and Carboxyl for Constructing Robust Interface of Zn Anode显示文摘While the rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries(AZIBs)have been recognized as one of the most viable batteries for scale-up application,the instability on Zn anode–electrolyte interface bottleneck the further development dramatically.Herein,we utilize the amino acid glycine(Gly)as an electrolyte additive to stabilize the Zn anode–electrolyte interface.The unique interfacial chemistry is facilitated by the synergistic“anchor-capture”effect of polar groups in Gly molecule,manifested by simultaneously coupling the amino to anchor on the surface of Zn anode and the carboxyl to capture Zn^(2+)in the local region.As such,this robust anode–electrolyte interface inhibits the disordered migration of Zn^(2+),and effectively suppresses both side reactions and dendrite growth.The reversibility of Zn anode achieves a significant improvement with an average Coulombic efficiency of 99.22%at 1 mA cm^(−2)and 0.5 mAh cm^(−2)over 500 cycles.Even at a high Zn utilization rate(depth of discharge,DODZn)of 68%,a steady cycle life up to 200 h is obtained for ultrathin Zn foils(20μm).The superior rate capability and long-term cycle stability of Zn–MnO_(2)full cells further prove the effectiveness of Gly in stabilizing Zn anode.This work sheds light on additive designing from the specific roles of polar groups for AZIBs. | Zhen Luo Yufan Xia Shuang Chen Xingxing Wu Ran Zeng Xuan Zhang Hongge Pan Mi Yan Tingting Shi Kai Tao Ben Bin Xu Yinzhu Jiang | 2023 | Nano-Micro Letters2023,15,11: | 1 |
